Bengal Brasserie in Oldham

The food was good and as I asked for orthentic. I had prior to ordering explained that I am a seasoned curry eater and I preffer my curry Pakistan style which very spicy and orthentic which was exactly what I got. The food was exceptional and the front of house staff who was the son of the owner was very polite and helpful. The only downside to my visit was the Lager option which was the Tiger. I found it expensive and flat but that won't put me off I will be back for food soon. I would give it a 8 / 10

We visited the Bengal Brassiere at weekend, as we haven't been since Covid. Both of our curries were simply delicious, its the best curry i have had by far. I don't like it too spicy and they prepare my curry to my liking. My partner likes a hot curry and he also loved his meal. The staff are all brilliant here and we have never had a bad service.

The staff that work here on front of house are brilliant, but when a criticism of the food is made, they appear to be like a rabbit stuck in the headlights. Today is my second visit, within a week. On the first occasion, I ordered a chicken jalfrezi. When it arrived, I was totally disappointed, brought it to the attention of the waiter, who informed me that the chef, had forgotten to put the spices in. Tonight, I went for a variation and ordered lamb jalfrezi. Tonight’s version was mildly spicier, but only just. I expect to see bird’s eye chilliest, I expect some heat, it is never going to come from capsicum peppers. In fairness to the staff, they offered to take it back to the kitchen, but in reality, it should be right first time. As I said at the start of this review, this is my second visit in a week. A poor showing at the best. At the worst, absolutely dire. No discount applied on both occasions, I doubt I will return.

Just had a lovely meal delivered for my husband and I. I was extremely tasty. Delivered promptly. Phone service friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

We haven't used this place for some time after a bad experience with a member of staff. We received a takeaway menu earlier in the week so decided to give them a try again our worst mistake? We ordered a set meal for two with a couple of extras. We waited an hour and thirty minutes for delivery when the meal arrived we found to our dismay that they had sent us the pickle tray but not sent the poppadum's we had also ordered a portion of chips which they had not sent. When we rang them to say things were missing we were told we could go and collect them or wait another hour for delivery. Having had a couple of glasses of wine it was not feasible to collect them and we did not want to wait so they said they would credit our next order (which will now never happen)When the meal was served up it was found that all the food was cold or at the best Luke warm there was no way that this food had just come from the restaurant to ourselves in this condition a journey of half a mile at most it had obviously been taken out with other deliveries and we were the last drop off on the drivers journey back. We had to reheat all the food but it was so bad that we finished up having to bin 80 percent of it. It was a complete waste of time and money, we would not recommend this place at all.

What can i say about this little joint. The lamb chop starters are a must the mix starter very nice. Chicken tikka naga hits the spot. The butter chicken very good for something more milder. Glad we found this place and will be back. Staff very friendly . Clean establishment well presented

I used to go to this place 20 years ago. I lived in Shaw for the past 5 years I have driven passed but never really thought to try. Anyway we went this week and OMG why have I not been before since moving here. Food was amazing and whilst it was the eat out help out and 50% of it was only £30 for 4 drinks, starters and main meals for 3 people 2 of which had tandoori kings. Even at £60 this would be a good deal. Think the front of the building could do with a makeover but please do not let this put you of as the food was delicious.

We stayed in a nearby b & b so went in there as it was close by. To our surprise it turned out to be great. Staff is helpful. God’s is nice too.

We popped in here quite late at night knowing nothing about this place before we arrived. The service was exceptional, we received an extremely friendly and warm welcome and were promptly sat down at our table. Both our starters & main courses were cooked to perfection, all washed down with an ice cold pint of Cobra. Our drinks, starters, mains & sundries all came to a total of less than £40, you can't say fairer than that!

We’ve eaten here lots of times as a couple, with family and friends. It’s our ‘go to’ place for a curry and extremely friendly service. Nothing is too much trouble. The menu is very varied to suit all tastes and in all the times we have been we have never ever had a bad meal and trust me all in all we’ve eaten a huge variety of what is on the menu between us all! Superb food and attentive and very friendly staff. Can’t rate highly enough!!

Went yesterday with another couple for a birthday and anniversary celebration. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The nicest curry I’ve had since I can remember, the lamb was so tender. The staff were attentive and polite. We even took a menu so we can order a take out, which I’m sure we’ll be doing very soon. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Visited a few times , large selection on the menu and have tried many of the dishes which are tasty but basic with a lack of imagination and expensive for what they are. It really needs to get back to basics and make each dish right from the start and make the place buzz again instead of going through the motions

We love a curry and visited many curry houses in our area. We have returned here twice now and its our favourite at the minute. Really lovely curry's nice ambience and staff friendly and helpful. The price is very reasonable for a family of 4. Restaurant nice and clean and comfortable

Visited early on a Saturday evening with adult family members. I found it a little strange having to order food before we were shown to our table - maybe it is just me. Papadoms and relish tray were good, my wife ordered Chicken Madras and I ordered Chicken Vindaloo - the other two were mild curries. Chicken was a little chewy and the madras and vindaloo sauce pretty thin but with good flavours. Staff a little slow on clearing the table but beer and wine were fine. Overall, they would need to up their game before I recommended restaurant to others.

I ordered poppadoms and the side pickles. It was good to find that they couldn’t screw this up. But it would have been rather difficult. For a main, I ordered lamb ticka jalfrezi and garlic nan. The nan was raw, whilst the jalfrezi was inedible due to the meat being unchewable. The sauce was a pathetic attempt at a jalfrezi, being both mild and lacking substance. And despite complaining, the full charge was still taken. Diabolical attempt of serving a meal. STAY AWAY!!!!

We visited this Bengal brassiere last week and we find the food very tasty and fresh and excellent flavour very nice restaurant and good car parking and restaurant staff are very friendly and welcoming

We dine here quite often and have take away delivered now and again. The food is generally very good. Love the service, the waiters are friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Good value for money and reasonable drink prices.

We have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions with no problems but on Saturday night having booked a table for 7.30 at 7 45 in a not very busy restaurant we had not been seated. One of the waiters came to take our order. One of our party who does not eat spicy food ordered the usual dish of chicken and chips(Never a problem before) the waiter said chicken and chips in a derogatory manner then picked a menu up, and leaning back on the wall in an aggressive manner saying were on the menu does it say chicken and chips. He had served us many times before so knew our regular food order his manner was very off hand and aggressive. He then walked away we then complained to the manager who apologised for the waiters attitude and said he would speak to him however no apology came from the waiter. We should have walked out but stayed for the meal but the atmosphere had been ruined by the mans attitude so as soon as the meal was over we left never to return. His attitude could in fact be read as racism in reverse we have never experienced anything like this before nor would wish to again.

We decided to have a family meal here. After waiting 30 minutes after being seated the staff finally took our drinks order. It took over 1hour 30 mins before we got our meals. Some of the meals were cold. When I complained about the service and food the waiter said he would get the manager. Who said that it was acceptable to wait over 1 and a half hours for your meals.

Never disappointed with the food, we always eat it all. Chicken is never dry and always tender.

Very good food and very polite staff who will have a laugh with you if you wish to chat with them. I've never had a bad meal here apart from one occasion which was during Ramadan, the head chef was on holiday and it showed.

Así que primero nos tomó unos 10 minutos para estar sentado, pero asumo que es a nosotros que una mesa de 7, así que ignoramos. Cuando pedimos las bebidas el camarero fue a mitad de camino a través de las bebidas al asiento un par que acaba de llegar. En su camino de vuelta conseguí su atención y dijo que no se había terminado de pedir bebidas. Él contó las bebidas que habíamos tomado y dijo "TENGO 7 bebidas y hay 7 de ti" así que dije "bueno, se nos permite hacer para pedir un par de copas? "Sinceramente, no he oído hablar de que uno antes, normalmente cuando vas a un restaurante puedes pedir lo que quieras (paga después de todo).

Lovely food everything you would expect from this restaurant with at tentative service and great selection. Nice to eat in the evening

Visited as an early valentine. Dinner was good, service was great and they even gave me a valentine's rose even though it was 13th Feb not 14th! Would recommend!

Great tandoori food. Banter from jamal always a laugh. Long established restaurant run by family. Great food handy location. Been numerous times and is a first choice Indian in the area.

Reservamos una mesa para 4 para la víspera del Año Nuevo, el 6 de diciembre y que incluso la persona que hice con repetir a mí. Cuando llegamos, nos dijeron que no había constancia de la reserva. No encontrarnos una mesa.

La comida es buenísima, el personal encantador y un servicio encantador. Los precios son muy razonables. Nunca tuvimos una mala comida.

This is the only I Indian takeaway we use and visit as a restaurant in oldham. The staff are always friendly and the food for us have always been fantastic. You can either have the food delivered to your door for an extra pound or so. Or just got and collect it after asking how long it will take. Our family have enjoyed many a family birthday meal or just a meal out here. Sometimes it's good to stick to what you know and our family know that the Bengal Brasserie is one of the best in oldham.

We use this restaurant for a meal out and for take away - embarrassingly they know not just our name but our voice on phone too!The staff are lovely people food is always of a high standard. Quite often the place is empty when we go ( early) but this is not a problem as staff are so good. When full they are s good!

this is one of my local restaurants and i eat here quite often.It is a comfortable place to eat, with friendly staff and decent service. weekends can be quite busy, so there is sometimes a short wait for service. But as i go mostly through the week, i seldom come across this. The food is what makes the Bengal B a bit special , Ithas to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. The house wine is excellent, the prices are pretty reasonable, and you can pick and choose what you want.sauces can be hot, medium or mild whatever you like. a pretty extensive menu. all in all a very decent menu & restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone.

I still find this the best Indian restaurant on the local scene. Good friendly staff and hearty food with the full complement of curries and specials, along with the best in lagers, wines, etc. All round excellent and takes some beating!

When we went was the only people in the place.the service was rubbish and the food not much better .was cold ehen we did get it and didnt feel we could send it back.will not be going again.

We've been going to this restaurant for last 20 years, on 23rd January 2016 we went and the service was absolutely rubbish, staff's didn't speak English, on 6th February 2016 yesterday they have a new young waiter who was very very rude, where is the other waiter? Who was very friendly understanding helpful. Never going back there again.

We have been going there for years, this place gone down the drain now since last couple of weeks, the waiters are really rude now, can't make them understand or they can understand us, there was a really good waiter used to work but don't see him now, since he left the service gone down and really poor. The side plates were dirty, the silvers are not cleaned properly, the toilet were dirty too. The food is lovely as always, We will never go there again, will let friends and family know.

Excellent value for money , food was delicious and served in a timely manner with friendly staff . Would recommend to other people for a beautiful Indian meal out .

What a lovely restaurant staff friendly and the food was stunning. Have only been mid week and the restaurant side is empty but people come in for takeaways the whole time we were eating. The flavours of the food is outstanding hot and fresh. Our new favourite Indian.

We always go there, the food is always excellent but recently all the dishes have lots of ghee/oil/buttery taste and too greasy, one of the waiter works really hard and he is very friendly and helpful, this restaurant needs to keep more staff for weekends at least.

Having booked several weeks in advanced of our dining experience due to the booking being for New Years Eve, I thought I had done the right thing. However upon our arrival, which given my punctuality was 10 minutes early, we were told to take a seat in the bar area, a standard procedure at any restaurant. However unlike other restaurants, we weren't asked whether we would like any drinks, given the amount of people in the restaurant, this I decided was a minor glitch. However having waited for 10 minutes past our reservation time I queried as to whether our table was ready, to which I was told it was being prepared, 10 minutes later, still no offer of a beverage, and still no table, I queried it again, finally 5 minutes later having waited almost half an hour past our reservation time we were seated. Now if the party was a large one, I could understand the delay at a busy time, but it was a table for two. At an Indian restaurant, I like to order drinks with poppadum's and chutneys whilst deciding on my meal choice. However here the waiter took my drinks order and when I said poppadum's and chutneys he told me to order food when our drinks arrived, now to me good customer service is to provide the customer with what they desire, something that this waiter failed to do. All the poor customer service in some way made me expect a poor meal, however when our food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the food was. It was clear that the chef was of a good quality as the sauces had a natural looking colour, coming from the herbs and spices used rather than the bright artificial looking colours that I have been served up in many a restaurant in the past. I would recommend this restaurant solely on the quality of the food rather than the customer service. On the other hand Restaurants such as Imli, in Manchester City centre, The Indian Ocean in Ashton, and many more provide equally good food, and good service as well. In other words if you are local to Shaw and don't want to venture far, the food here is worth the money, but to truly enjoy your dining experience, I would recommend venturing further afield.

We go here fairly regularily, it must be the best Indian restaurant around, staff are very curteousand the meals are excellent.Highly recommended

Had a family meal recently. The service was very poor as we did not receive the side dish & nan which we ordered at the beginning. Had to ask for this several times before we got it. Some of the party members had given up and left as they had already finished the meal before the side dish and nan had arrived. No apologies provided, yet was told we should have asked for the dishes again. There should be no reason to ask for something you have already ordered in a restaurant. Will not be visiting again.

The food is always great at the Bengal and not expensive. There never appears to be many people in which is a shame as they have upgraded the premises and the standard of food for the price charged is well within many people's budget. I realise there are many good Indian restaurants in and around Oldham, but give this one a try, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Recently went there with a party of 15 people and can say it was the best meal I've ever had. The food was scrumptious and the service was great. Will be going back soon. Plus they offer a delivery service.
