Went for a wee day out to Oban and decided to stop at this cracking wee place with stunning views over Loch Awe. We didn’t stay over night but the location and what we saw of the Inn looked amazing. We stopped off and had dinner whilst watching the rugby and all I can say is WOW. The food was out of this world. The menu is quite small but there is enough to choose from and no matter what you choose I’m sure you will enjoy. Well presented in a gorgeous restaurant with a fantastic setting. The only thing, if I had to split hairs, would be sitting at the windows on a chilly night made it seem a little cool whilst eating dinner but other than that I would highly recommend a visit to this wonderful little treasure.

Mike yourself and your team were beyond exceptional on our wedding weekend. James and I could not have had more of a wonderful experience then we did with the Ben Cruachan Inn team. You guys showed such a warm, welcoming atmosphere and hospitality and were always happy to engage and help during the process and days of. The food was some of the best food we have ever had and I can guarantee everyone agreed on how spectacular the food was. Our stay and experience with you guys will always be such a memorable one, we couldn't have been happier and for that we couldn't be more thankful 🧡

We did enjoy our stay, however, we were disappointed the fire wasn’t “roaring” on the Saturday night of our stay as it was a freezing winters night and for some reason they decided not to put the fire on. Attention to detail is massive, it makes all the difference. People don’t like snidey comments, especially from the manager. Another wee tip to the staff- don’t ask questions if you are not interested in hearing the answers. What makes a good host is taking a GENUINE interest in your customers. Ultimately it’s your customers that make your business possible. This place has massive potential but because of a few things that made us feel uncomfortable, we will not return. Manager- no point in being there if you are not happy !

We had a fantastic stay at the Ben Cruachan Inn. Weather was appalling however the friendly welcome we received more than made up for the pouring rain and gale force winds. The self catering apartment was modern, clean, comfortable and well laid out. the view from the front window was spectacular, looking right on to Loch Awe. We also had a meal in the restaurant which was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. The lady in the shop next door was very pleasant and helpful too. We will definitely be back, hopefully in better weather.

Stayed in the apartments at the Ben cruchan inn in Jan 2022 as a couple and would highly recommend. We were greeted by Cameron who was so friendly and allowed us to check in early and late due to it being my partners birthday. The apartment was also lovely, clean, modern and looking over the lake. We felt so relaxed after staying here with the views and fresh air. We also ate at the inn and would recommend- lots of choice for vegetarians and Cameron was again friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend and stay again

The service was very good, but the food very disappointing. Between our group, there was overcooked chicken burger with barely any chicken to fill an oversized brioche roll, some over fried greasy battered fish with either no fish or chewy fish inside, and a dry venison stew with some overcooked/fried roast potatoes. The starters were ok, but the mains were pretty awful. We didn’t bother with dessert. Overall, a very disappointing meal despite staff being very accommodating. I’d recommend a new chef.

Have been here several times for Sunday lunch and have always found the food and staff brilliant, however, I had the misfortune to visit on a Monday and was served by the manager. He had a very bad attitude from the moment we walked in, got my order wrong twice, sighing as if it was my fault. Perhaps he should write orders down as he is given them instead of trying to be smart and remember them. When I asked him for the bread that was supposed to go with my husbands soup, he told me he only had one pair of hands. There were other comments said that upset me too and as a customer I should not be treated in such a way. I ended up leaving most of my lunch and walking out. I hope the owners read this as they need to know how customers are being treated. He ended up not charging us for our lunch but it in no way made up for the upset he caused. I won’t be back.Anyone reading this…go on a weekend, different staff.

We are staying across the lake and had seen this place and it looked lovely. On the way back from Oban we stopped in for dinner as it’s right on the side of the road, super convenient. I wasn’t hugely hungry so only had soup and some chips but wasn’t disappointed! The soup was absolutely delicious and the chips were enormous. My partner had a burger and some lovely whisky. We had a nice few hours and would defo return is we passed back through this way again.

We normally love the food here but today was a disappointment. We both ordered the roast dinners mine being the beef which was good but the pork dinner not good. Firstly it was belly of pork, lots of fat, very little meat and very chewy. There was a red purée under both the beef and pork which just made the plate look like a massacre. We normally love eating there but today was just not good although the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were good. Not sure if we would go back. I know we should of made a comment to the staff at least for them to get feedback on how bad the pork was. For some reason we expected slices of pork and at least a wee drop of apple sauce. The dog liked the pork. Maybe we will keep to the fish next time.

Booked primarily for the location. We wanted to be in the Highlands but still be able to travel freely in lots of different directions. So it was ideal for it's proximity to Oban, Glencoe and Loch Awe. We ate in the restaurant once, the food was incredible. Our hotel room was in the main Inn building. We had a small kitchenette but no utensils, oven gloves, tea towels so we couldn't really cook anything. The bed itself was two different mattresses squashed together. One was extremely hard/springs sticking into your back but the other was OK so we had to take it in turns sleeping on the good one. Not ideal really when you're out walking all day and want somewhere comfy to rest. The inn is easy to find and in a beautiful location. Recommend walking down to the train tracks and exploring the Loch. In terms of location, it was exactly what we wanted.

Stayed for a couple of nights, the room was smart and clean. The staff are lovely and good humoured. The food in the restaurant is really good. We personally don't agree with dogs being permitted in a food restaurant but everyone is different. We knew that before we went and there was no disruption or barking so no hassle. I would suggest if you're an allergy sufferer you might want to reconsider going, there were a few in at the one time. It wasn't enough to put us off because we would return. I would say that the breakfast is by far the best we've had in a hotel, fresh and non greasy and the first I've seen with a Scottish square so well done :)

We stayed in of the garden suites, which was rather nice - a good view of Loch Awe and plenty of room and facilities. We stayed in the room for breakfast each day (it was available at the pub), but ate in the pub each evening. The room was very clean - large bathroom with powerful shower and comfortable bed, with luxury of plenty of wardrobe space. The only criticism would be the lack of natural ventilation - the only opening were the doors, which is not really practical to leave open in the nighttime. The food was very nice at the pub each evening, with some nice veggie alternatives. What was exceptional was the service - with the manager being the most attentive and friendly host. The whole pub is dog friendly.Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We visited here one evening for dinner as we were staying locally in Dalmally. The setting is really lovely and has clearly been done out to a high standard. On arrival the service was great but petered out as the meal went on. We were sat there for a good while before our main plates were cleared. The food was nice enough, nothing special- I had the crab linguine and there wasn’t loads of crab in it but I guess that’s to be expected given how expensive it is to buy! The sticky toffee pudding was nice (I’m a sucker for a dessert) but it wasnt very hot. All in all it was nice but I wouldn’t rush back, especially not for the price.

This was the first stop of our staycation, to explore another part of Scotland. What a lovely find! We stayed in Suite 10 Loch Fyne which was ideal for two of us plus our Labrador. The room was clean, warm, functional and peaceful. The little kitchenette was useful, we didn't self-cater, but the use of the fridge and kettle came in handy. We had breakfast included and decided to eat both nights in the main hotel building (I forget to mention, this place is super dog friendly!). The food was great value bistro food and delicious (though breakfast was limited, but suspect this is due to Covid and will hopefully regain more choice eventually). The stand out thing for us was the service. What a lovely team. Very professional, warm and a real credit to the owners. Lucy was a delight, sorry to not have other names, but whoever we dealt with, at whatever time, were friendly and nothing too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely stay.

My wife and I had a great week at the Ben Cruachan Inn, situated a few metres from the shores of Loch Awe. We opted to stay in the well equipped self contained chalets next to the main Inn, with views over the loch and a small outdoor area for us to unwind after each day's exploring. All of the Inn staff could not have been more attentive, providing recommendations of where to visit and even travel advice for our journey home when roads were closed. Our intention was to use the chalet's self catering facilities more, but having tried the food and unwinding in the bar of an evening with a whisky recommendation, we didn't bother. From start to finish we were made to feel like friends rather than guests, and will definitely be staying again!

This was our second visit but first for food. On our first visit we were surprised to be charged £18 for 3 drinks. We were staying locally and went back for lunch. The staff are lovely and helpful and the Inn itself is very nicely decorated. We had the ploughman’s which to be honest was quite small for a sharing plate. Half a small pork pie with soggy pastry, two bits of cheese, small oatcakes chutney, a small skinny baguette between two and gherkins. For the price it was hardly inspiring. The sweets were nice but all in all the menu is very limited. It seems a real shame because it’s ideally situated with lovely views of loch Awe but it’s too expensive for what you get. Sadly we won’t return.

We stayed in a garden suite as a family of three and a dog. The suite was nice, clean and well equipped. But some areas that let it down. The shower is tiny. Why they put such a small corner shower in I don't know, as the bathroom is a decent size and could take a much bigger shower unit. The sofa (which double as the sofa bed) is horrible to sit on. Very uncomfortable. The suites have no windows, so it means the room is baking hot when the weather is nice during the summer at night. We ate dinner there both nights of our stay. It was OK. Nothing special. Better places a few miles down the road to eat in my opinion. Service was hit and miss as they seemed to have lots of junior staff so things naturally kept getting missed. On trying to check out in the morning I stood at the desk for 5mins while 3 staff cleaned and walked about and not one of them said they would get the manager to help. Things like that which was a shame. If you drink prosecco be warned. A glass is over £8 which is premium hotel territory.

The bathroom had an excellent shower and the towels were fab. The tv even had Netflix etc which went down well with the kids! The only (constructive) criticism we had was the sofa bed wasn’t particularly comfortable when used as a bed and the heat in the apartment at night caused disrupted sleep. There are no windows to open only two glass doors at either end of apartment. However with two daughters and a dog these couldn’t be left open during the night. Not sure what the solution for that is… maybe have some electric fans available? All in all it is a fabulous place and we had a great stay and would recommend!

We were staying in the self catering apartments and had our dinner in the restaurant. Restaurant was fairly busy (sunday evening), we were seated and drinks order taken quite prompt. Our main meal was great pork roast and chicken burger. Plates were cleared and the waitress offered dessert menus, which we accepted. 45 mins past and the waitress finally returned saying that she had forgotten. By this point we no longer wanted desserts. Fair enough she forgot we are all human, however other members of waiting staff past our table, whilst we were sat with empty glasses. I had to go up to the bar to order more drinks. The table next to us also seemed to have been forgotten about. It didn't seem like enough members of staff on(3 in total including barman) for the number of tables in the restaurant and to provide the level of service you would expect for the price you are paying. Breakfast the following morning was great, service was great which made up for the previous evening. Plenty of choice for breakfast. We pre ordered the night before. Self catering apartments had amazing views of the loch. The apartments had everything you needed. Clean modern spacious. Restaurant bar area has a modern decor but in keeping with the location. Large windows and outdoor decking area. Would be great on a nice day. Would definitely return and hopefully dinner service will be of a better standard.

This was our second visit, staying at one of the garden suites. We normally travel as a family, but on this occasion we were only 2 of us and our dog . As last time, the room was immaculately cleaned. All Covid- 19 measures were in place, which reinsured us for caring for any visitors well being. It has been accredited with "Good to Go" scheme and it felt so safe. Greeted by Mike and looked after by Debbie, both very approachable &profesional. What a great team they have. We had a full Scottish breakfast, which was outstanding. Highly recommended, the location is beautiful and we were able to relax under the present circumstances.

Came here for a bite to eat after a day in Oban as we was staying on loch Awe and I have to say the evening meal was amazing I had fish and chips and so did my partner and it was absolutely gorgeous, the staff was friendly and had good knowledge of the area.. also came the following day for lunch after walking up to the dam and had the club sandwich which was also amazing. Very COVID Safe and would certainly recommend popping in here for a bite to eat. Many thanks Alex and jade 5/11/20

We were staying in the village and had dinner in the inn one evening and a take away meal another evening. Both meals were really delicious. The coley in panko with dhal and salad was a triumph. Staff had adapted well to difficult new regulations, which were ony just in place. We felt safe and well cared for.

Stayed here for one night and we were very impressed by the staff. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and were very attentive during dinner. At dinner the food was lovely and portion sizes just right. Wasn't too pleased that we couldn't get a cooked breakfast in the morning and while a continental breakfast was served it didn't quite hit the spot. Our room was compact and cosy with a big comfy bed. Shower room was roomy with plenty space for toiletries. The shower was really good with plenty of hot water and great pressure. Really liked the fact that there was plenty of hand sanitisers and social distancing was maintained. Not keen on the fact that pet dogs were allowed into the restaurant, one barked everytime the bell rang. I've nothing against dogs but the smell of wet dog isn't the most pleasant thing when your trying to eat. Still this hasn't put me of and would recommend and would go back.

We came here twice for dinner during our stay in the Argyll and we loved the atmosphere and the friendly staff but on both occasions had disappointing food. The vegan options were not satisfying enough and although they sounded nice on the menu (and really appreciated that they had a couple of plant based options)they were just not substantial and I still felt hungry afterwards. With the cauliflower curry perhaps just a bigger portion would have been ok but I would suggest adding some protein to the dish - chickpeas or maybe tofu would have made the curry much more filling.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had an excellent experience. The staff were very courteous and attentive, the food was amazing on both nights. We had steak and a lovely bottle of Shiraz on the first evening. On the second day we climbed Ben Cruachan and needed some well earned comfort food, so on our return had the burger which was big, juicy and beautifully cooked, followed by sticky toffee pudding.......oh and anther bottle of that Shiraz. This is a very dog friendly hotel, our dogs were welcomed and looked after just as well as we were during our stay.Highly recommended

Great Food and very friendly service. All the more pleasant as the midges seemed not to bother us until quite late in the evening when it was dark enough to put the external lights on. We had supper in the restaurant, booking is needed. The food was truly excellent - there is a very talented chef(s) and the service was friendly, welcoming and efficient - It felt very safe in relation to COVID. We had starters of monkfish sate and bread and balsamic and olive oil. These were excellent. We then had the signature burger and a vegetarion option (of which there several) of roast sweet potato, broccoli tempura on humus. Again these were great dishes made with great care from excellent ingredients. Well done the Ben Cruachan!

We didn't stay at the Inn but booked it for a meal as it seemed to have the nicest restaurant near to our accommodation 10 miles away.It has a lovely look and feel and an outside terrace for warm nights. All staff were very friendly right from the start. They obviously take Covid precautions very seriously as our temperature was taken on arrival, the servers were masked and the tables well spaced. We were lucky enough to sit by the window. The menu was varied with lovely local produce and I loved my roast Pollock recommended by my server as I was undecided! The fennel, courgette and mint salad it came with was so delicious I'm determined to try making it myself.W

We booked for one night, staff took Covid procedures very seriously which we really appreciated. They had a faulty temp gauge that gave me a reading of 40 degrees. We were asked to stand outside while they got another thermometer - it made us feel very confident in our surroundings. We had dinner which was ok, priced quite high because it's cleary a captive customer which is fine but I felt like for the quality of food it was very poor value for money. However, the staff were very nice but seemed awkward when interacting with us. During the temperature fiasco, we weren't told about breakfast times or when checkout was. We arrived downstairs for a coffee at 9.30 to be told breakfast was finished, not a problem but I've never personally stayed in a hotel that finishes breakfast before 10am (this might be because of the coronavirus so I'm not bashing them for this!). Just before we checked out a staff member brought us up some bacon sandwiches which we really appreciated! Overall though, its lovely and clean but we were left very disapointed in value for money and won't return in the future :(

although our breakfast was continental due to the hotel only just re-opening post Covid lockdown, it was as good quality as the evening meal we enjoyed during our stay. Staff were welcoming and helpful; the owner was particularly knowledgeable about whisky as well as food and ensured each guest had everything they needed to make their stay comfortable. Our room was clean, tidy, well-stocked with tea, coffee making facilities to warm us up from the rain. Paintwork needed a bit of touching up, but nothing to detract from the overall quality of our stay in this lovely hotel on the side of Loch Awe. The restaurant and bar were very busy during our stay so would recommend booking a table if you want to eat, but food delicious and menu innovative for those foodies who may want to eat here. Super views of loch if you are lucky enough to secure a window seat, dog friendly too.

My husband and I enjoyed two nights in one of the apartments. The apartment was clean and modern with amazing views straight over the Loch. We stayed in Winter (December 2019) and we were a bit worried it might be cold but it was kept lovely and warm throughout. We were a bit taken aback by the kitchen set up - the apartment "oven" turned out to be a very small "cupboard" oven which our pizzas wouldn't fit in! Would have appreciated more guidance about this before coming. We had breakfast each morning which was delicious and they were out of their way to make sure the vegetarian options were still great. Staff were welcoming too.We are looking forward to making another visit.

We arrived on a pretty bleak afternoon and were welcomed immediately. we upgraded to one of the self-catering apartments ans were not disappointed.Food was scumptious and well prepared - we'd go back for the food alone. Great breakfast too, plenty toast which is always welcome. We loved our stay albeit the weather was horrendous it was a fantastic place to enjoy a break away from all the usual stresses. Just returned from a three night stay at the Ben Cruachan Inn. Situated in a small quiet village surrounded by hills and adjacent to the nearby Kilchurn castle. WE had arranged to stay in Chalet 10 which sits in a small complex of six near(tenyards) the Inn . Our chalet was clean, very warm and very spacious with modern facilities and a really comfy bed. The Inn itself was done up three years ago but is maintained very well as it just looks like it was done this year. Comfortable bar and restaurant with two wood burning stoves and wonderful staff. The food is excellent,(try the mussels)

My husband and I have just had a couple of nights away at the Ben Cruachan. We had a very relaxed stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and clean with a Loch view. The hotel is really nicely decorated with a lovely log fire to sit round when the weather isn't so nice ( as it was on our second day). Breakfast is very nice indeed...very good porridge...and we had dinner both nights. Again, excellent. Beware, the fish and chips is huge but so delicious. We visited the local church, St Conan's which was really interesting and attempted to walk up to the Cruachan Dam but rain stopped play. It was really miserable. Oban is quite close by too with plenty of shops and restaurants. Would definitely return

Stopped here as it was close to where we were staying. The food was top class with the haggis being amazing. The only downside was the service which was relatively efficient however when it came to paying we waited so long I had to go to the bar as it seemed we had been forgotten about. Also they seem to have a small alarm to tell staff when food is ready, this resembles a front doorbell and after a while starts to get on your nerves a little.
