Great food and service, recommend to all!

I’ve been coming to this shop for over 10 years. This man was so awful horrible customer service. After waiting for 15 minutes he asked me to leave the shop luckily I hadn’t paid!!! don’t bother wasting your money here!

Fantastic cod'n'chips. I always ask for the fish to be skinned - I find the batter sticks better that way. Also ask for a box rather than having the fish wrapped - stays more crispy. Staff really friendly. Only consider recent reviews over recent weeks - the site was previously occupied by Bell's which really went downhill. Some of the reviews refer to Bell's. These people are new: they've refitted the place and have a completely different attitude. Also a 5* hygiene rating too - which from my observation is well deserved. The place is really clean. Good luck to The Fish Bar, they really deserve to do well. EDIT July 2020: My original review was a few months ago. Update: Still as good as ever and reopened after a short corona shut down. EDIT Dec 2021: Was a bit worried after a change of hands, but still as good as ever. Really think they deserve more support from local people.

Always friendly, always clean. Had the chicken fillet with chips and a battered sausage and chips to take away. We absolutely demolished both meals as usual. We'll worth the prices. Good selection to choose from.

We came to this place for a meeting. we heard about this restaurant from a lot of people. Well, we were not disappointed. The crew welcomed us with a smile and we had an excellent feeling. The food was just great. We had a great time and we shall definitely come back again. we highly recommend this place.

The Fish Bar has taken over the premises of a previous fish'n'chips shop which wasn't great. All is different now! Here you get friendly staff and great tasting fish'n'chips. They just got a 5* hygiene rating which is well deserved from my observation. The manager is very happy to talk to you about spatulas and cleaning fluids if you want to know more.

Ordered for delivery, totally got the wrong order - it was horrible food and when I called to ask for the right order to be delivered they refused and said come in - if I wanted to come in I wouldn’t have ordered a takeaway, rubbish

Having given it a poor review, I felt duty-bound to update following the management change reported by another reviewer. I have tried it a few times since. First of all, the staff (some of whom are familiar from before) are keen and friendly. Anxious to improve things acknowledging things were poor before. Generally the food is better than it was. However some inconsistencies. One time the chips were really greasy. Another time, there were no boxes, so the fish was soggy when I got home, with the batter sliding off. One evening they closed early. And one more time, the "large cod" was rather flat (like the old days) and not large at all.Last night it was closed again. Signs up saying it was being refurbished and that it would open again under new management. New management again?I think 3 stars is fair. Certainly better than it was and you feel your custom is valued. I don't want to be harsh, but the quality/consistency isn't there for 4 or 5. Hope they can finally fix things, re-open and get the formula right.

After seeing Bells was under new management we decided to ring through an order (9/11/19). So pleased we did as when we collected our quite large order it was piping hot and obviously freshly cooked. The new people are great. Very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them ( unlike the previous owners who had taken over from the long standing owners who were lovely).itWe had friends over and all of us enjoyed the fish and chips. Well cooked and very tasty and each meal individually boxed up. They do senior sized meals as well and childrens.Don't be put off by previous negative reviews which, I am assuming, relates to the previous management.Give them a go and judge for yourself. The usual fish shop menu applies, fish, chicken, pies, sausages, develops and burgers at a fair price. I can only speak as we found last night and we will be going back.

New management food has gone down in quality.

Despite earlier bad experiences I returned to see if anything had changed. I hoped standards may have been restored, alas not.Ordered simple large cod and chips. They were out of large cod, so ordered two medium. To be fair, these were fine. Not great (a little flat), but OK.The chips were not OK. My family all noticed a weird taste. One was quick to say this was "old oil". But whatever it was, it was unpleasant. We threw the chips out and made do with our own baked beans and bread.Oh is it so difficult?

Visited here because our usual one is closed for refurbishment but wish we hadn't bothered, happily waited for it to be cooked but when it came it was absolutely awfulthe oil that it was cooked in must have been very, very old that it rendered everything virtually inedible the kids couldn't even eat their sausages or nuggets, tried to complain but suddenly he didn't speak much English so couldn't understand us, "NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Chips were not over greasy but not to dry, curry sauce is the best in town

I was a regular, but do they think I'm an idiot? OK, it's always been a bit inconsistent. Eg sometimes a small portion of chips is huge, other times a large portion is "regular". Quality a bit variable. Also they have the habit of closing a bit early. It's a little British to be eccentric, so I put up with it.But a few days ago I asked for a large cod and chips. Didn't really pay attention as it was shoved in the box. Got home and basically had what looked like a small cod (at best) "joined" with a few scraps in a whole lot of batter. Extremely flat. It was a bit like eating a biscuit.OK - it's no crime if you've run out of cod, just say so! But don't leave a regular feeling cheated.BTW they have stopped taking cards and have stopped their loyalty card.I've given 2* as 1* would seem mean given previous better experiences. But I'll be steering clear for a while.

Very tasty and fresh food. Highly recommend it. It's tucked away and I never knew about it! I will go there for fish and chips and a nice cup if tea. However the 2nd time we went there we were given stale chips from lunch time. Yuk. The service soon fell. Bad news.

In my opinion the best local chippy by far

Terrible - used to be good but under new owners it’s the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had.Large Cod was the smallest piece of fish I’ve ever seen & was so thin it was basically two dimensional. It was pretty much just battered cod skin - how you could charge someone £8odd for that and sleep at night I don’t know. Also they don’t take card so I had to walk to the cash point - which I hadn’t gone back.

A great service and fantastic food. The fish is always cooked fresh, and the various other options are equally tasty and fresh. Family friendly, easy to take away or dine in.

I wouldn't go Anywhere else...they use the best quality most expensive fish and always cook in clean fresh oil . I rate it the best fish and chip shop in Bromley and Croydon and inbetween.

I consider this chip shop a gem as the food is fresh and made to order, and the staff are friendly and care about their customers. While I don't live in the area, I make a point of coming here whenever I am as I'm always greeted with smiles and tasty comfort food.

The best fish and chips in the area, we all enjoyed it and it will be our regular place. Definitely recommend it to everyone

I Went here today with a relative, we were greeted very quickly by a friendly man who took our order and then immediately went to freshly cook our order. The result some of the best tasting Fish & Chips I've had for absolutely ages. Crispy batter, beautiful tasty fish and lovely chips, with lovely crunchy bits at the bottom of the bag - will definitely go there again. One can sit in or take it away - we opted for take away. Served in a sensible container and piping hot.

Aries girls you are from next door hair shop. Because You don't get half price food & free sauce, you keep making complaints, but still coming back to buy food from Bell's. Every Bell's customer is very happy with food and service since under new management. It's better that you go to the chicken shop and not come to here anymore.

Hate it. This place used to be good, but now they've had a revamp and under new management and it is just awful. The make over is lovely but I'm not fond of the fact that the prices have gone up and potions have gotten smaller. Also the quality of the food has gone downhill. Not happy, I used to be a regular customer but now I will not be going back.

Food is ok, can be hit or miss for quality

Never again!!! Think the chips had been sitting there for hours they were stale and hard and the fish batter was like cardboard and obviously had been refried from earlier!! We paid £30 just to throw most of this away not happy😡

I wish I had read the reviews first before buying chips from here. The worst chips ever. So dry and stale. Obviously refried from old chips. Not worth the £4.80 paid. If I could rate a zero, I would. Awful... stary clear.

Took ages to get food, everything is cooked in loads of fat, was greasy ,( the grease seaped through the paper and plastic bags they were in and left marks in the car seats). Fish was worse, even more fat and grease, batter was horrible.

Great chips . . but the fish batter can be a bit on the oily side at times . . otherwise a good place for fish and chips, with friendly staff.

That was the worst takeaway I've had in quite some time - greasy yellow lard sticks for chips and utterly anaemic, flavourless cardboard fish. Actually made me physically sick later in the day. Bleurgh/10.
