Delicious food, stunning decor and a beautiful location ensure that this is one of the best pubs that we have ever eaten at. One night stay, but in hindsight would have made it two, as is a real find. The decor is superb, in a traditional warm and welcoming way, with excellent staff who made us feel very welcome. Obviously very popular, as was busy but not packed. Gorgeous open fires. Our room extremely comfortable, with everything you could need. We both loved the style. Breakfast was in keeping with the quality of the venue. Suffice to say, we will definitely be coming back.

We spent a couple of nights at the Brisley Bell and couldn’t have been happier with accommodation. The room was beautiful. We had an evening meal and a Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, portion sizes were very generous. Breakfasts were just as good. Everything was perfect but for us the stand out feature of our stay was the friendliness of the staff. They were wonderful and couldn’t do enough for us to ensure we had an enjoyable weekend. I guarantee that if you decide to stay here you will not be disappointed.

I was taken there for dinner and an overnight stay by my partner to celebrate my birthday. The room was charming and well appointed in what appeared to be converted stables at the back of the pub. The main building itself was nicely and sympathetically restored as was the dining room that we found ourselves in. We didn't have starters. The main course was wonderful. Rump of venison served with dauphinoise potato, kale and roasted plums in a wonderful jus. My partner had the cod with pea puree, parsnips, oyster mushrooms and new potatoes. We could not fault either of the dishes but the venison was just superb. We followed this with deserts. Mine being a white chocolate panna cotta with rhubarb and strawberries with sable biscuits. I was disappointed with this as it was fairly one dimensional and needed another flavour or two to lift it. My partner's banana and almond tart with rum and raisin ice cream was the better desert for sure. It was the service or lack of it that really let down the whole experience. We were never once asked if our food was ok or if we wanted more to drink. There was no bread served at any point and we even had to find our own cutlery for our deserts as none were brought to us. There were plenty of staff hurrying around but they were more focused on setting tables for the following mornings breakfast than attending to dinner guests. It wasn't just us as we noticed all of the other diners were similarly left unattended to. Our room was clean and warm with all we needed for a pleasant stay.......but the beds!! Arghhh we both woke up multiple times in the night with aches, pains and numbness. The mattress was just far too hard and a bit lumpy. At least the full English breakfast the next morning was really good and very substantial. The Brisley Bell has some elements that make it potentially a wonderful place to dine and stay. It is silly that it lets itself down on the service and the beds.

Pleasantly surprised for a pub in the middle of nowhere offering such commendable service.Upon arrival we were well received by the barmaid, a very pleasant young lady. We had a small drink in the well stocked bar and a nice little chat with the barmaid, learning what the place was all about, we were then shown our room for the night, WOW!!! what a surprise , never expected to find a gem like this way-out here. Very spacious, clean tidy and warm, but not too warm. Again the young barmaid was very helpful, she obviously loves her job, well done you. Other establishments could learn a lot from you. Only one thing to mention that could be improved upon.If you were staying here for ,say, a week, you might find the lack of a wardrobe not to be satisfactory. The restaurant, such an atmosphere , truly a restaurant you can dine in well relaxed which is what its all about on a weekend away.Staff very welcoming and most helpful. I asked the waitress about what desserts were still left available before i ordered my main course, which she duly stated, to which she said she could reserve one for me so they wouldn't run out(well impressed). The food...What a chef, no complaints here, top drawer, being an ex-chef myself, know what i'm talking about, well travelled as well, there are good and there are bad, this guy is way up there. He obviously has a passion for his work and so proud of what he achieves, i take my hat off to the guy. We enjoyed a premium wine that was well chilled and a very good accompaniment to our meal. We were after all celebrating 50yrs of being together and our 47th wedding anniversary , so why not push the boat out!!. When we were departing in the morning, we had a little chat with the morning staff in the bar after we had eaten an excellent continental breakfast in a different dining area to the previous evening with a lovely aspect out of the window. We asked them where they got their chef from to which they replied , France, told them to hang on to him. We will be back!!!

I would have given this 5* but!!! The food and staff have always been excellent (apart from the owner/manager). We come from London but we regularly visit Dereham and on most occasions we book into the Brisley Bell for dinner. We went at the end of last summer, firstly we had a drink in the bar then ordered our meal. We had a lovely starter then our main meals arrived.i had ordered lamb but it certainly didn’t look like I had expected it to, it was a creamy dish. I called over the waitress and explained that I didn’t think this was what I had ordered. She then called over another member of staff who told me it was a vegetarian dish. He swiftly took it away and returned with the lamb. Sorted! Or so you would have thought. On checking the bill both the lamb and vegetarian were on it. We went to the bar where we expected an apology and for the bill to be amended. But no. The owner manager who was standing nearby came over and said that she trusted her staff and they would not make a mistake with the order and implied that I must have ordered the vegetarian dish but when I saw it I didn’t like the look of it so said I hadn’t ordered it and that was why both were on the bill!!! Eventually she took it off the bill but we left feeling very uncomfortable and disappointed and felt we never wanted to go back. We have just been back (to the shock of our family and friends and no doubt those of you who have read this) and had a lovely evening. To conclude. As much as they didn’t deserve our custom (not they would care less if we went or not) we were the ones missing out. I know I’m not the only person to complain about this ladies attitude and probably won’t be the last! She is very good when all is going well but clearly does not know how to deal with complaints in a professional manner. Such a shame!

After reading numerous great reviews and hearing of the awards this pub has won my family and I were so excited to dine at the restaurant. Whilst the food was fantastic it was totally let down by the terrible service we received from our waitress Rachel. There was no warm welcome, we were sat, order taken quickly with no small talk or friendliness. I had asked our waitress about one of the desserts and she described it as a Victoria sponge with a marmalade, I ended up ordering this and it was nothing like she'd described. It was a dry, overcooked centimetre thick cake and I was pretty disappointed. When she came back to clear our desserts she asked how they were so I told her mine was disappointing and not as she described at which she laughed and said "okay"! That is terrible service, no apology and no offer to make up for it. The waitress then just left our table and started getting the restaurant ready for the next service. We were totally forgotten about, even though we were actually wanting some coffees (which we gave up on) Upon paying I gave my feedback again about the dessert and it was brushed off again. Really disappointing service that totally tarnished our experience.

Dinner and an overnight stay to celebrate the first day of 2024- we stayed in the 'Hunny' room, which is spacious and nicely presented. The bed is huge and wonderfully firm. The food we enjoyed on the night of our arrival was excellent. A special shout out to Alphonso, who appeared to be supervising all activities; he was friendly and attentive, although obsequious to the point of comic parody. No cooked breakfast available on Monday or Tuesday mornings, the 'continental' breakfast option was okay, nothing special. Been many times before but would only book again if there was nowhere else available, the staff seem to have all changed and have little clue as to what is going on in the hospitality business tbh , they brought our starters out and said enjoy your mains ! This is how the meal progressed forever asking for things we had ordered as they should have been there or were simply served late , food was ok but steak that was £38 was overcooked medium/well done not medium. It was definitely overpriced as a whole for what we received, I would not recommend, there seems to be no management.

I did sayvthat I was the one paying and eating it but that fell on deaf eats. My partner asked for scampi chips and peas, but, she wasn't allowed ketchup with it because the chef wouldn't allow her to bring it whati s it with chef. Is he that much of a bully. So, we got up left, and up a the crown in fakenham. A far better service and atmosphere plus, you could have what ever sauce you wanted. The Brisley bell used to be great, what ever happened

Hi, unfortunately I feel in need to post this review after my very displeasing experience in this place. I went there at about 6p.m to eat and drink something. I was expecting for something pretty okay counting the price but the quality was even less than mediocre: I think I'm not the best at evaluating food but the day earlier I bought some frozen meat at a mall for 1/4 of price and it tasted at least 3 times better. Anyway I wanted to close an eye on it and ordered some beer, hoping that it'd save my evening and let me forget about food. I was so wrong doing that decision, I should've walked away. when I got served my beer, I heard and saw a man probably in early fifties with dark hair and country clothes screaming at some workers, I'm pretty sure it was either the owner or a manager. I can't believe he treated his workers that bad, I got so mad I wanted to just throw my chair in the air along with the table and go away without paying. I can close an eye for food, I could even close an eye about prices, but the is absolutely no way in the world I can accept someone that treats their workers so badly. Of course I didn't even take a sip of my drink, I cleaned my face, delicately got up from the chair, and gave a very direct stare into that man's eyes and as soon as he saw me, no words came out of his mouth anymore. I walked up to him and said:"Thanks for the meal, and I truly hope that you'll get treated the same way you've treated those people". Placed the bill money on a table in front of him and walked away. You have earned my reward as top place where to never ever come back again. Goodbye and never seeing you again. -Gigi

In an area with lots of local competition sadly the Brisley Bell didn’t meet our high expectations. We had a Sunday roast and it was just average. My vegetarian roast wasn’t really a roast - it was a goat cheese tart with roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips - overly sweet, no green veg and no gravy. Drinks were overpriced - £5.40 for a pint of Coke. Service wasn’t great - ordered an extra side that was forgotten about and had to wait ages to pay the bill. The location and the pub itself are really beautiful but wish the food was better. Not worth the hype.

Since moving to Norfolk we have tried a number of eateries that call themselves restaurants, this is the first that can genuinely claim that title. They really must have a chef, not a greasy spoon cafe cook, the food and service were superb. Prices appear to have increased by more than the rate of inflation, but then again so have the prices at the supermarket. Great Sunday roast dinner 😋😋 Good week day menu, Robert our server was excellent, one question, why didn't I get a fork with my dessert?

I visited with my partner, I called up first and was greeted over the phone by Maggie, she was very bubbly and asked me how my day was which was a nice touch. I asked about booking in for a table as we were staying locally and wanted to have a nice meal and the pictures and reviews for the bell looked amazing. Maggie accommodated us very kindly. When we arrived later that evening we went to the bar and ordered a drink as we were early, Maggie must of recognised my voice from the earlier call which is impeccable, she greeted us by bar by our name and shook our hands asked us if our journey was all okay and if we’d like to sit at our table earlier and have drinks away from the busy bar. To which I was very happy. All night Maggie would pop over ask how our food was and If we’d like more drinks as our glasses were getting empty she was very attentive. Other team members were brilliant also. The food came out and the portion sizes are fantastic. The food was bright and colourful and the taste was just perfect. I’m surprised they don’t have a Michelin star here. Very good food and fantastic service from Maggie, the team. Will definitely be coming back to Norfolk and visiting this little gem. Super small hotel adjacent to a wonderfully restored Norfolk pub. Our room was exactly as the website stated and for such quality very good VFM; especially as the price included a delicious breakfast served by lovely staff. The restaurant was spread out over several areas, each tastefully designed including undercover outdoor seating. The adjoining garden was worthy of a horticulturists award. The food was good, as was the service. Definitely intend visiting again as North Norfolk is so enjoyable and the cost of the Brisley Bell was vastly more competitive than many of the hotels serving the area

We stayed for seven nights in Hunny which was a spectacular room. They don’t cater for long stays mainly one or two nighters hence no wardrobe facilities. Unusually our bedding wasn’t changed until we asked and the basin, shower and bath were not cleaned once. Little annoyances like fitted sheets not being large enough then wrinkling up overnight and the chest of drawers not opening and a rug that you trip over constantly need rectifying. Monday and Tuesday night inmates meal service was shambolic. It may have been chef’s nights off but the poor service which was trying and unnecessary could be averted if they wished to do so. When normal meal service resumed the service was far better and quite slick. The food menu is on the pricy side of expensive but the surroundings are interesting and unusual. The drinks menu however is ridiculously expensive and we shall not recommend buying a Bloody Mary for £9.95. The wine list is good. Despite being a long term resident and supposedly familiar nobody acknowledged us particularly much which was a shame. The breakfast staff were great and most efficient. The lack of information about anything when you stay including walking over to the pub with your jug to request fresh milk for a cup of tea is odd and being able to use the car charger easily especially when the car parking space for it is not advertised so you can’t get parked there easily etc is too laid back. We wouldn’t return to this pub having spent a fortune there as we didn’t seem valued or appreciated in any way. When people take the time and effort to write a review the very least the pub can do is write back in acknowledgment.

Stayed for one night, beautiful room and gardens. Had the Sunday menu, which gave plenty of choice, food was excellent and service spot on. Stayed over in very comfortable room with garden view and outside seating, a bonus as weather was hot. Continental breakfast was fantastic. Overall a great place to stay and eat.

We came in as we were passing just for a couple of drinks, this wasn’t our first visit. Firstly I have to say the pub itself is absolutely stunning! Both inside and the large garden. I’ve completely fallen in love with the decor! My house will be having a similar style! I’ve not eaten there so can’t comment on the food but the staff seem friendly enough behind the bar as we ordered drinks. Family friendly but is on the upper end of prices for the area! I ordered a Gin and tonic (standard gin, standard tonic) £7.48! Ouch! Keeps you sober I guess?! But overall a lovely place for all the family.

Beautifully big rooms and astonishingly good food. Staff were lovely too. I honestly couldn’t fault the place and I’m hyper critical. Will definitely be back!
