Bay Root in City of London, Westminster

Stopped off here at lunch time as were were en route so where and v hungry. Great little find, we ordered mainly veggie (falafal, lentil dish, baba ganoush, spicy potato, vine leaves, cheese Zatar parcels ), tasty food, portions were great, we took some home, complimentary backlava. Very reasonably priced. Good find in Camberwell.

Our Airbnb host recomended this nice little restaurant and we haven't been disappointed. Lovely stuff, very helpfull and great food. Would definately come again.

Estuve allí el fin de semana y puedo decir que me sorprendió mucho. El personal me trató a mí y a mis amigos. El tamaño de la porción para lo que pedimos fue genial. Mezclar Shawarma sabía muy bien. Definitivamente fue una buena relación calidad-precio.

I was looking for a place to eat after work and the prices where great. The place has nice decor, and the service was amazing. I look forward to coming back as the food was delicious I had hummus as well as a lamb kofta.

Chose to sit in for dinner instead of takeout. The place is tiny with hardly any decoration, but as there was only one table occupied, it was nicely quiet. Service was ok, food all in all tasty. Baba ganoush was excellent, falafel were really good, though I would have preferred them spicier, same goes for the cheese and zaatar parcels, but that's a personal opinion, as I am used to stronger flavours which might not be the case with other customers. I found the texture of the meat in the Lebanese mixed grill a bit too dry, especially the chicken. Price was more than fair.From what I hear restaurant is moving to a venue which is under construction at the moment, so ambience will probably be upgraded (let's hope prices will not).

Amazing tasting and looking, fresh food. Some gorgeous pairings of hummus and pomegranate seeds, lovely, melt in the mouth lamb and flavoursome chicken. Stuffed vine leaves were gorgeous. You must try the fresh juices - apple and ginger....yum !

La comida era muy fresca ya que a mi esposa le encanta la comida de Oriente Medio, yo solo la acompaño. Pedí el salmón a la parrilla con arroz con azafrán, viene con una ensalada con mucho sabor marinado con lo que sabía a vinagreta. Definitivamente diré que fue Lily esta comida es de 5 estrellas. We ate at this cozy little restaurant close to our Airbnb a couple of times during our stay. The food was very tasty and fresh and the service was prompt and friendly. Lots of vegetarian options to choose from. A high recommend!

We ordered a plate with various meats and sides. It was so mouth watering good, and so many flavours. Our tastebuds were in euphoria. Would for sure eat again. Very nice staff and great athmosphere.

We visited this little restaurant for a birthday party ,we had a set menu including cold and hot starters and some main from the grill , the meat was tender and very tasty but not greasy or hard , I’ve had the best baba ghanouch I’ve ever tried and the homous was creamy and tasted very nice.

£15.50 for grilled lamb kebab cubes, I thought it would be something special for this price but what i got was a very small portion of over cooked lamb that was not saved by the bread and rice that came with it. For that price salad should be included, and more food, or at least reduce the takeaway price. I wouldn't pay £5 from a street food stall for what I received. The red sauce was fine but the garlic mayo that came on the side was inedible.

I went here for a birthday meal and was not disappointed. There was options for the vegetarians and meat eaters. I liked the fresh fruit juice that they made to order. The food tastes very good and was made to order also. The server was very friendly and polite. Prices are very good for what you get. I think I have found my favourite Lebanese restaurant. :-)

We visited here with the family consisting of both adults and children. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff very friendly and attentive. Food choices were excellent and the food was hot and fresh. Tasted lovely. Loved the rustic feel and was a very relaxed place. Would most definitely recommend and would definitely return!

I've ordered takeout from here and more recently, eaten in. Both great experiences. Good selection of food, good pricing and great service. I'm lucky to have this so close to home. I'll definitely eat here again soon.

Staying in London we wanted a nice meal out just the two of us and this was a great little hidden gem. The staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic. It was nice to watch the world go by through the window whilst we were eating too.

This is a great little lebanese restaurant with cheap but delicious food. We had the wraps and they were very good! The nearby tables had something to share and it looked nice as well.

We have recently moved to this district of London. Coming down from the bus we always pass in front of this restaurant. Yesterday we finally sat and had dinner. The dinner was above our expectations. The food is delicious, there is a wide selection of dishes. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere very welcoming, familiar. Good choice!

I had a lovely meal at this little restaurant, best meze I’ve had in a Lebanese restaurant in London. The staff were friendly and welcoming and they offered us some complimentary baklawa and fruits.

Small Lebanese restaurant between camberwell and elephant and castle. Enjoyed a vegetarian mezze plate which was big enough for a main dish. Fresh and tasty food.

Went with family, love the food, meat was really tender and flavours good. Service was efficient although not particularly welcoming, Slightly pricey for establishment although not a Londoner so maybe ok. Main negative is was a little too cold, a strong draft and toilets perhaps a little too communal for my liking. Overall I would revisit based on the food (maybe more for takeaway)

This is my favourite restaurant on UberEATS. The food is excellent quality and the delivery is always quick. My favourites to recommend are the falafels, hummus, grilled squid steak and chicken taouk.

Mientras que por la Camberwell Road en dirección a el elefante esta tarde tuve la suerte de pasar la bahía; Raíz pithily titulado como el nombre insinúa un restaurante libanés. Ahora por lo que sé de haber frecuentado la zona por tan sólo 3 décadas o así no hay bares o restaurantes que sirven buena comida en cualquier momento dentro de un radio completo; la más cercana es verde, Kennington Camberwell o Cross o el Elefante en sí.

Estado en este lugar y hecho de ellos varias veces. No puedo decir lo suficiente sobre la comida, gran sabor y buen precio en. El pollo entero es un favorito personal. Vale la pena una visita.

Prepárate para el personal no importa poco y la comida no era totalmente fresco. He estado sirve arroz preparado horas antes y dura y un poco frío. Pan frío, que encontrará en el restaurante labanese irrisoria. El pan es un paquete y no hecho en la cocina. Es una lástima que la sussces ha arruinado lo contrario una gran idea para esta parte de Londres.

Un hotel muy limpio y acogedor restaurante. El personal era muy amable y el servicio era bueno. Compartimos el plato de carne fue servido con ensalada de arroz y pan plana, muy muy buena. Sin duda volveremos aquí! Tenían una muy buena relación calidad-precio, de lunes a viernes menú del almuerzo, que creo que será de muestras la pena.

He tenido experiencias variadas. Puedo recomendar la envoltura halloumi, que ha sido muy buena. Pero en una visita anterior elegí la opción para vegetarianos y comida mezze, quedé muy decepcionado. Las porciones eran significa (una rebanada mini de halloumi! Y una de las salsas sabía bastante mal. No es muy bonito, y nulas el resto de mi pobre y, contaminado mi anterior visita.

Bayroot has become a firm favourite, the food is fresh, beautifully prepared and presented and portion sizes are generous. Lots of vegetarian choices and the freshly-pressed juices delicious. On each of our recent visits, we have found the staff to be warm, helpful and attentive. Please try Bayroot, you won't be disappointed!

We live locally to Bayroot and have visited a few times. The staff and service are always excellent. The food always plentiful and delicious. We really like that it's BYO, which helps the bill always seem very good value.It's a local restaurant done properly. Great to see it doing so well, and highly recommend to others.

A year after lackluster experience and having heard that there is a new management, we've decided to give a second change to Bayroot as we pass by it every day. What a change: the menu has been updates and every meal ( babaganush, tabular salad and kibbeh for starter and two different portions of chicken) were very well presented and tasted delicious. They served excellent selection of freshly squeezed juices and you can bring your own wine ( pay just for cork). The staff was very polite, attentive and efficient. We would definitely come back soon

Baba ganoush , humous , mousaka, boneless marinated chicken and fries were all perfect The Baba ganoush had the smokey flavour that you would expect.The boneless marinated chicken had an amazing flavour and was very moist.I had them as a take away, so here is a tip: the fries arrive always soggy, so put them on a preheated baking tray in the oven at 150 for 5 mn and then down to 50 until you are ready to eat. They will come out almost as perfect as in the restaurant.

Best middle East food in South London if anybody likes this kind of food this is the right place......Fantastic

This restaurant stands well on Walworth Road and is worth a visit. I have not returned partly because it was BYB and I prefer to wine and dine without the worry of providing my own wine.Nothing at all wrong with the food or service and I wouldn't discourage others from visiting if you are looking for a decent Middle Eastern/Lebanese menue.The staff were friendly and decent but it's just not my choice of evening out I am afraid.

I was served totally raw chicken. The waitress was rude. We were made to open our wine ourself. I would avoid this place at all costs.

This place is a secret treasure in the area , the Bayroot platter was amazing , plenty of meat and chicken , no grease , and the sauce was very nice , the salad was very fresh and the service very efficient and quick. I will definitely be back soon.

Very average food, extremely overpriced, clearly a very greedy owner, it's not like the restaurant is in central London and has to pay high rent. I ordered the lamb kebab for £12,50, there were literally four small chunks of lamb, one tiny slice of courgette and a tiny bit of onion - a complete rip off. More worryingly, I am intolerant to gluten and told the waiter several times not to put bread in my order, and guess what? Yeah, there was bread there. If I had a severe allergy, this could be dangerous and I really think that if you work in a restaurant, you should be aware of common allergies. I definitely won't be ordering from here again!

Absolutely delicious grilled meat right in the heart of Camberwell. I would recommend the Bay Root platter, it was cheap and came with more than enough chicken and lamb for two people. We'll definitely be back!!

The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional and fast. We had humus and lamb parcels as starter, then the fish platter and some rice. All fantastic, we found it a bit pricey though. At the end one of the managers (we assumed he was the manager) came to chat with us and he also gave us some delicious sweet pastries for free. Highly recommended.

Ordered here via Uber Eats. Food arrived promptly and was hot and well packed. I guess there is nothing specifically bad about the lamb kofta wrap but it wasn't especially juicy or tender and the wrap seemed not to be packed with the usual Lebanese array of pickle, salad and sauce that I've come to expect from some other establishments. The Kofta were quite small (nothing wrong with that) but weren't very moist on the inside and I suspect that they are fried earlier in the day and then re-fried to order rather than fresh from the mixture to order. Chips were fine. I think that there are better places but I can't complain too much as the whole order was £12.50.

Nothing about the exterior entices you into to this gem of a dining experience. All the food is freshly cooked to order so don't turn up if you are pushed for time it will spoil the meal for you. The staff are very polite and proud of what they doing , rightly so! Meats are tasty and tender cooked to perfection side dishes are interesting and adventurous with an equally tasty outcome. Don't miss this if you are the Elephant and Castle area , prices are mid range and represent excellent London value

Thoroughly enjoyed all the food - especially prawns and halloumi. Staff also seemed genuinely interested in whether we enjoyed the meal.

The food was fantastic! Sea bass was deliciously well seasoned and came with the sweetest grilled onions and courgette. The falafels were freshly made and came with a exquisite sesame dipping sauce. My friends chicken brochette came with generous chunks of well seasoned not tiddly cubes and the tastiest saffron rice I've ever tasted. The juices were freshly pressed and a request for the addition of ginger to the mango was no bother. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and if he's not to busy the manager will happily chat with you about the food, location etc.

This is by far our favourite take-away in SW London. The squid steak and halloumi and courgette are particularly good. The salad and veg is something to look forward to rather than just an afterthought like a lot of take-aways. Would be very easy to have a great veggie meal here too.We've never eaten in the restaurant but plan to very soon!

I went to Bayroot with my friends after a disappointed visit to another restaurant, boy was this place good! Impressive service, very friendly staff, amazing food. I would highly recommend Beirut Nights to all my friends and family. I will definitely be back soon!

We've been here many times but gradually it has gone off. Previously pleasant caring staff now replaced by pleasant but very inexperienced versions. Most recent visit there were 5 of us and we ordered a lot of food yet got into a silly argument about what we could order off their menu (things are split into platters, plates, half versions, single pieces, etc). All too boring to go into but eventually waitress agreed that we could place a particular order... But told that if we came back that that "benevolence" would not be extended again. I replied that simpler would be that we don't come againFood was in some parts nice, some just ok... But... We were served some absolutely appalling steak. The loo doors still have a broken lock and have done for over 6 months despite us and others having suggested they might like to fix. They had the same thing a short while back with a broken front door that let icy air in and wasn't fixed for months. All in all, food less and less good each visit and seems to be being run into the ground. Shame... Won't be back...

Hi,Been here once just after it was opened and I did sort of enjoyed the vibe and food. Today I was back for lunch and I was horrid. Our table was dirty, loads of old food stuck in between wooden table gaps. We were sat by the windows and Windows seals were absolutely filthy with dust, hair and old food. This place need some better cleaning procedure. Food was ok I wasn't overly impressed but not worth the price at all - that's for sure. I have requested "no tahini" on my falafels yet one of the falafel was sprinkle with tahini... I spent over £20 just for lunch and I went straight away to Tesco next door to grab some food. Never again. It was the biggest mistake ever. I should have gone to La Luna - Italian restaurant literally next door where two course meal and free coffee stands at £7.90

I eat here about once a month. I love the Lebanese food - lovely range - and wonderful possibilities for finger food and sharing. Nice interior - I am sure it has a special name but it escapes me. Staff always very attentive and helpful.

Good service, had the chips and chicken Shawarma wrap to take away, waitress was pleasant and polite, service was quick. My only observation is that it seemed a little dark inside and it was a little difficult to get the attention of the waitress when she was sorting out something but overall very good.

We went past Bay Root many times on the bus and never really thought much about it. We finally decided to go and were delighted to discover that is does great food at reasonable prices.The sharing platter as fantastic and the squid, sausages, halloumi and chicken we had were all delicious. The chips are also really good and covered in an amazing spice mix. We spent £50 in total (including service) and had ordered way too much food.Service was great and the waitress was very friendly.It's also BYOB.Don't pass it by, go immediately!

Loved it from the moment we walked in - it looks great and has a good atmosphere. Food is fantastic and we're already looking forward to returning. If you're going and want to drink alcohol with your meal, note that this restaurant is BYO. Looking forward to many more meals and takeaways here.

I have cycled past this place so often and decided to go with friends. Having never been before we asked one of the waiters to help us with the menu, like all good waiters he sold it to us very very well......we slightly over ordered. Everything we had was great, but the squid was, perhaps, the best any of us have tasted. The atmosphere was great too and the waitress with the long black hair (didn't get her name) was very friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back.

Stayed in Elephant and Castle for the night and left our hotel to find food. We are so happy we found this place! It was quite busy but we were served quickly. A slightly confusing menu but the waitress was happy to explain it to us.I had the shawarma wrap with spicy potatoes and a side of halloumi (with salad and olives), while my boyfriend went for the whole boneless chicken with chips. It was outstanding! Everything that passes out lips was incredible. Fresh, tasty and a well seasoned burst of flavours. I particularly enjoyed the drag crispy salad and the garlic dip! What's great is that you can BYO. We didn't know this but it didn't matter. You are charged a 12.5% service charge but we were more than happy to pay it because we left feeling stuffed and it was only £27 between us, which we thought was cheap for the amount we ate! Would definitely recommend. I am a massive foodie and after an array of beautiful meals during our weekend stay in London, this was definitely the highlight! So glad we didn't go to the kebab place down the road...!

I ordered a mixed platter of lamb and chicken for takeaway. 13.50 pounds for 4+4 dice of meat and a 10 cm long sausage-like lamb. In the "plate" there was 1 big piece of aubergine + half onion + half tomato grilled, and cold pita. And that was it, no rice or salad whatsoever. In total it was less than 200g of meat.Chicken was overcooked , the lamb dice were great and the other lamb meat nothing special. I have been in many Mediterranean charcoal meat grill, and this was the most disappointing: average quality and stingy portions, in an area where I don't expect tourists or people from made in Chelsea, so if you don't serve the random customer properly, you ran out of people eating at your place. Disappointment was not reduced by the fact there were 5 people in the place and it took a while (15 min) to serve me. Nothing dramatically bad but nothing to add to the list of positive things.

I'm lucky enough to live around the corner from this great place and I try and eat here at least once a month. I've never had anything I didn't like and the staff are great too. Perfect for any type of meal - family get together, friends, couples, evening or lunch (they do a great lunch deal). Go there, eat, be happy!

We have been here a number of times and everytime we are delighted. The staff are lovely the decor is excellent and the food? The food is outstanding! We both choose to come for here for our birthday meals and were not disappointed. I have to travel to get here but it is well worth it. Very highly recommend.

You have never tasted such amazing food, hummous is unlike anything i have tasted. Just wonderful, the baklava was not too sweet - perfect. The meat was amazing my companions told me as i am mainly vegetarian the food was great for vegetarians. i did have sea bass which was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were on the bbq so tasted really nice.

The location is not great, but it is more than made up for by the spectacular food. I came here for a meal for my birthday with family, and really enjoyed it. The ingredients are fresh and zesty, and the flavours are spectacular. I'll be back in a heartbeat, and highly recommend it to anyone!

Muy buenos platos a precio decente para ser Londres. Pedimos humous (muy bueno!), lamb meat balls y dos principales que estaban impresionantes, el chicken shawarma y chicken taouk. No es muy picante. La única pega es que el humo de la cocina se pasa a veces a las mesas.

I took my friend out for his birthday here last night. We went for starters and a platter. The falafel was perfectly crispy and delicious, the Baba Ganoush was well presented with a sprinking of pomegranate and mint leaves, the flavour nice and light and not as tahini-heavy as some I have tasted. The mezze-platter was equally as pleasing as the starters, I am fussy about squid if it is not really fresh, needless to say I wasn't let down. It was succulent without a hint of rubbery, the chilli sauce was medium hot and not overpowering. The halloumi was perfectly grilled and creamy, The merguez the right kind of spicy in order to taste all the ingredients as with the chilli sauce. Roasted vegetable were really good. Then came the desert which was comparable to a Middle-Easter Eton Mess. Greek yoghurt, strawberries, pomegranate, a sweet sauce (made from molasses I think - just a touch and topped with a homemade honeycomb. A medley of delicate flavours. Everything was delicious. Really nice friendly staff too and the atmosphere comfortable. Definitely going back

I ate at this restaurant this evening with my husband and son. We walked in without a reservation. The restaurant was more or less fully booked but the friendly staff gave us one of their few free tables and we were seated very quickly. The menu has a good range of meat and vegetarian dishes at very reasonable prices. We nipped out for a bottle of wine as they don't sell alcohol and charge minimal corkage (my son had mango juice!). The food came quickly and was delicious. I would recommend the lamb shawarma, the spiced sea bass, the baba ganoush and the corn on the corb. Everything was top notch and the bill for the three of us came to less than £50. An excellent neighbourhood find.

Having been to this restaurant several times since it opened, it's great to see (and taste!) that the quality has not wavered in the slightest. I have tried most of the menu now and the quality really is superb. Very fresh ingredients, and everything done with an additional bit of flair. From Merguez sausages served with a delicious sweet pomegranate sauce, to Halloumi served with a generous courgette and mushroom salad. Not to mention the lemon and thyme chicken, which is sensational! My only recommendation is that the shawarma is not up to the same standard as the rest of the menu, and is somewhat plain and dry.The owner is obviously very passionate, and also gave us some free baklava on our last visit. This is a fantastic restaurant.

The food was delicious, I recommend the mixed platter and the corn on the cob. The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a great vibe and is open late and the prices are fair. We'll definitely be returning. And they serve fresh mint tea! I was so pleased when it arrived and it wasn't a tea bag. A lovely end to the meal.

Bay Root is a firm favourite local restaurant - I have never had anything but a wonderful experience over my many visits since it opened. Reasonably priced, BYOB with a small corkage charge and a menu of mostly grilled meats and hot and cold mezze makes it a great place to enjoy some wonderful Lebanese food with a glass of wine. The service has been very friendly on every occasion and the interior is miles better than most other restaurants on Walworth Rd/Camberwell Rd - a good spot to impress someone with, or to enjoy a quiet meal out.

We came to Bay Root for our anniversary as we wanted somewhere local that was affordable and tasty.It was really busy when we arrived and it took a while to be seated which was fine as it's a small venue and seems popular.The food was delicious and arrived promptly. I love the tomato/chilli sauce and could've quite easily eaten the table with that sauce.We could hardly move we ate so much. A bit of advice though it's BYO but there is not a good bottle store nearby so get something on your way.Thanks

I've lived in and around the Walworth road for about 15 years and it has been an absolute 'Black-hole' in regards to any good restaurants…..unless you like Mcdonalds, fried chicken and bad kebabs, which i don't and would avoid like the black plague.I've just moved back into my fat after five years, and whilst the Walworth Road has in many ways remained the same (apart from the massive destruction of really awful tower blocks!!) , i've noticed more and more restaurants pop up to deal with the influx of people who want proper food to eat. I don't mean to sound snobbish but it's true!!I was glad that i popped into Bay Root as the food, service and restaurant atmosphere was all very good and i will definitely be going back. Is it a proper lebanese restaurant? Probably not but the food it serves is really nice.If there was one point of criticism/personal taste that i'd mention is that even though my lamb was lovely it was slightly over marinated/flavoured. Maybe just dial the flavours back a smidgen and not overload it. Apart from that i had a lovely meal

I came here with my boyfriend as I live locally and I was so impressed with Bay Root. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It was great as the restaurant is BYOB, so we brought in our own beers which helped to make the meal affordable. We stayed for a few hours because the atmosphere was so great and the manager kept bringing us complimentary snacks! Would definitely recommend Bay Root to anyone looking for delicious food in a cosy atmosphere. Thank you Bay Root!

great food, friendly service lovely atmosphere and decor, portions are generous and quality is excellent.

The menu consists of all traditional Lebanese dishes with plenty of grilled chicken, lamb and sea food with some fresh mazes. Very mediocre quality (not bad though) but the portions are extremely tiny (grilled squid for example had 3 very small chunks) and shockingly overpriced. More than 40£ for a lunch after which we still remained hungry. It was the first and for sure the last time.
