Bay of Bengal in Gwynedd

We ordered a take away, paid and came back in 30 mins. Staff insisted we had not paid. After insisting the man that took our money was asked if we had paid, which he confirmed, we received our takeaway. Items were missing, the rice we ordered and paid for was not received. Avoid this place they will rip you off.

Had a takeaway last week couldn't fault this restaurant, lovely food, nice staff, fresh hot ,im returning next year and will hopefully make this my 1st stop off.

We went to book table for six. We were all vegetarian and One of us couldn’t eat onion garlic. But one of the staff members who spoke to us was bit rude. Not only he was not prepared to help but asked us to go to another English restaurant. We said we want Indian food. Then we asked if he could do steamed rice and yogurt and he said no. Then one of his colleagues came and said he could do rice and yogurt. But then we decided not to go to this restaurant.

We had a really friendly welcome at this little restaurant. Menu was not as extensive as typical Indian Restaurant, but everything we had was excellent - I’d really pick out the vegetable bhaji as a stand out side dish. You must bring your own alcoholic drinks if required and it’s cash only. Limited range of soft drinks too (no sugar free option for the diabetic in our family).

We ordered a takeaway on a busy Saturday night so expected a delay in preparing our food which we accepted. No issues with our food which was enjoyed by all. The reason for me giving 3 stars only is that cash is the only payment method which meant we had to find the cashpoint in town which luckily was working.

Really enjoyable meal, even though the restaurant was full we received our food in a timely manner. Food was excellent and well presented coupled with friendly service.

First of all, I cannot comment on the food because we didnt stop to eat. We booked a table for 9pm and dropped a couple of bottles of wine in beforehand and went for a drink in one of the local pubs. When we returned our wine had mysteriously disappeared - the head waiter telling us it had been stolen by the people who had been sitting at our table previously. Avoid- there are much more friendly places to eat in Aberdyfi

We went here about 7pm on Sunday night and had a delicious meal of king prawn bhuna and king prawn dhansak. The meals were cooked to absolute perfection! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any curry enthusiast.

Had a lovely meal here everything very tasty and piping hot , so much so that we went back same weekend and had another . Again they didn't dissappoint. Restaurant not licensed so be sure to take a beer or wine from one of the two adjacent pubs who are more than happy to oblige.

We phoned in advance to collect a takeaway from Bay of Bengal. The food was ready on arrival. We ordered poppadoms/ yoghurt/onion salad which were lovely. However, my main course was disappointing. I ordered korahi chicken which had a rather thin sauce which lacked some flavour, the chicken in the dish was junks of tandoori chicken. If I had wanted a tandoori chicken dish I would have ordered one. Korahi should be a thick sauce with ginger as a key flavour but this lacked flavour. We also ordered garlic naan (which costs more) but unpacked a plain naan which was flavourless and a bit soggy. My partners main course was lamb rogan Josh which also lacked flavour. Cash payments only so be sure to have cash! Maybe dining in would bring a better experience.

Some folks we met in Tides Inn recommended The Bay of Bengal to us and we're so glad they did - we just had one of the tastiest curries we've ever eaten!! Top marks for the Tandoori Bhuna special and the mixed Biryani...delicious Sag Paneer and Keema Naan too! I honestly don't know where the negative reviewers on here have eaten, I'd recommend trying it for yourselves...hope your experience is just as wonderful as ours!!

Fitted us in without a booking, curry was very nice, bread was fresh, vegetable rice was excellent. Service was very good also. You have to take your own alcohol They only accept cash which is a bit of a nuisance. Tables could do with being a bit further apart as you feel you are eating with strangers on another table.

Given how many reviews I’d read before going, that were terribly negative, I wasn’t expecting much at all. Thankfully these reviews were so very wrong. Me, my wife and our 9year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed our food, the service and in fact, the whole experience. Well worth going. Really superb flavours and not swimming in ghee. Well done Bay of Bengal, we’ll be back.

Ordered lamb rogan josh which was all fatty and not able to eat complained and sent back but still expected to pay. The special did not contain any king prawns and was reduced by £1. When I asked to speak to the chef it turned out there was no chef and food was cooked by waiting staff. Please avoid this place.

Very acceptable supper - usual choice of starters and mains, pilau rice and assorted naan. Very reasonable prices.

Really really enjoyed the food, Very attentive staff and quick service. Couldn’t ask for more from the kitchen or front of house staff. Slightly noisy when fully booked.Really annoying this place is card only in a village that only has ATM’s that charge to withdraw money. It’s 2019 and the tax man will find you eventually.There is a cost to banking cash much like the cost of card transactions, though the latter is more continent for the customers who are paying your wages.

Excellent meal last night at the Bay of Bengal. Food was outstanding and very friendly staff. An added bonus is your can take your own drink. 👍

The food was good, portion sizes good, service attentive but not over the top. I had a dansak which was as it should be and my wife’s prawn Parthia was very tasty.The shop just around the corner on the main road sells beer and wine so the bill came to less than 30 quid for the two of us. It seats around 30 max so booking probably advisable.

What appears to be a basic Indian restaurant from the outside (Cash only No alcohol) is amazing inside. Very modern interior with excellent food, (best curry we have had in s long while) and excellent service. No alcohol not a problem just bring your own from the pub next door.

Great food.. best butterfly prawns, fish pakora,chicken balti and mushroom spinach balti we've ever tasted in a long time. Well done chefs it was spot on👍 recommend this place.

We visited on May 2nd for the first time. We were really pleased with the lovely meal, best curry we had had for ages either in a restaurant or takeaway. The service was also good and we were pleasantly surprised at the bill. I also like that you can take your own drinks. Will definitely return.

Popped in for a curry having celebrated football match on tv in pub nearby and was recommended. Finished off a great day with good curry - we had dansak and korma with rice and naans all came to about £30 so good value. Perhaps small portions but great quality food . Will visit again.

The last three times we ate here it was good - paper napkins and no tablecloths, but the food was delicious. On this latest visit the food was not piping hot, especially the rice, which was almost cold. The waiter offered to warm it up. Reheat lukewarm rice? I don't think so! I asked him to knock it off the bill, which he did. A further apology as we were leaving would have been nice.

We ended up having a curry as the chippy closed 40 mins before the displayed closing time. But I'm so glad we did....it was so tasty! The mushroom biryani was delicious, we had a chicken rogan josh, samosa, onion bhaji...all warm and tasty. It really was a very nice takeaway. Four of us turned up on Bank holiday Friday evening at the last minute without a booking so were very pleased to be given a table for 2 hours until 8pm. Service was quick and friendly.

we visited on a Thursday evening and just about managed to get a table , we had a bit of a wait for our main course as the place was busy with other diners and take aways , however we only had poppadoms and a main course.

Excellent food, service was bit slow, but it was a Saturday evening, so no complain try to book it in advance as they are really busy

This is a really good Indian restaurant it offers a good menu and the food is so tasty. The Nan bread is delicious and the portions are huge. It gets very busy so book to avoid disappointment also this restaurant allows BYOB which cuts the cost of hefty drinks bill our dining experiences in Aberdovey were surprisingly cheap as we took our own wine to a couple of places offering this service- we loved the idea and would definitely recommend and return.

Accommodated a large group of us at the last minute. Seemed busy and popular. All portions were of a decent size and all flavours were as they should be.

Nice meal, good service, my only small complaint was I ordered a mixed meat balti and got a vegi balti but it was very tasty and my wife enjoyed her tandoori meal.

Only curry house in Aberdovey. Unlicenced but can take your own drink. Also takeout service. Prompt reasonably friendly service. Small restaurant just off the sea front, Overpriced for the Mediocre curry provided. Tandori mixed grill was oily and covered in red food colouring. No deserts. We wont be rushing to return.

Visited on the spur of the moment and was pleased that we did. It was a cold, sea misty and rather depressing weekday night in May so the restaurant was not very busy but the service was attentive and the food was cooked to order and was delicious. It was obvious the four golfers at the next table were enjoying their meal too. Afterwards we met the chef/owner which was interesting.

The food is average at best. The mains are better than the starters but lack flavour and ingredients. I can make a far superior curry myself. We had a very weird conversation with the waiter when, totally unprompted, he suddenly said that they "were not all terrorists. Money laundering, yes, but not terrorism."

Been coming here some years and we eat Indian food regularly. Upon their return decided to give another try as last year we were not impressed.

We have been twice since it reopened and on both occasions we had a lovely meal. The second time a friend with us was talking to the waiter and discussed what type of Indian meal he likes. The waiter took all what our friend said into account and said he would have a meal specially prepared for him. When it came it was just what our friend wanted and he said the waiter had given good instructions to the chef.. Our meal was really good and looking forward to going again in the near future.

All round had a lovely meal here but be prepared for some crazy and not very professional service. The food was gorgeous and couldn't really fault it, other than being a bit expensive. The two gents hosting were both quite abrupt and one obviously was the boss but sadly neither seemed to remember what looking after customers was about. We had to listen to one of them coughing flem into a bucket, move table, fetch our own drink from the pub next door, change tables again halfway through our starter, then listen to the boss man tear into the 16 year old new waitress, who incidentally was the only one with manners and a real asset, considering the crazy world she was joining !!! would visit again but probably only for a take away.

Visited Saturday night, 8 adults and 2 children... I appreciate we were a big party and it's quite a small restaurant, but the food took ages and it was cold... we had to send them back for re-heating... Starters very miserly, lamb strips were almost devoid of Lamb... Such a shame, saving grace as the main course was quite tasty once warmed up!

Food was delicious, they fit us 3 in without a booking on a busy Saturday. Naans were huge and soft, meat was ridiculously tender and juicy, had Pasanda + Tandoori Special Bhuna + Garlic Chicken with chilli. Wonderful all round. Chips and drinks a little bit on the small side but that is the only criticism. Definitely will visit again, very happy :)

Cuando paramos en Aberdovery siempre son un punto de ir a la bahía de Bengala restaurante. Esta vez encontramos a otros miembros de la familia que estaban parando en la zona. Así que en total éramos siete fuera de nosotros. Todos ordenados distintas comidas. Era su primera visita y realmente disfrutamos de la comida tiene lo hicimos. Como siempre un gran servicio de comida y la relación calidad-precio. Así que si estás en la zona de pruébalo, no te defraudará.

Pedimos para llevar, que era delicioso, aunque no es barato. Una ventaja adicional fue el viaje a el pub mientras esperábamos para ser cocinados.

Gran calidad, personal amable, gran cantidad de sabores.

Food that really hits the spot. A great variety of dishes, including meat, seafood and veggie curries meant that we were spoilt for choice. An authentic atmosphere, but we didn't lose the feeling that we were in a seaside town. With excellent service, this is a lovely place to eat on your trip to Aberdovey.

I was quite surprised that we got in on a Saturday night without booking as it is quite a small place. To compensate the tables are very close together so I hope you get good neighbours. The place was a little cool for us and it will be draughty by the door. It's your standard Bengali menu, nothing out of the ordinary but it covers all the bases. Not cheap but not unreasonable considering....From start to finish, we had no complaints with the food which was to our liking although I would agree with some that the portions could have been slightly bigger.The service was also very good too, as was the timing.They don't serve alcohol but you can take your own, note you are not spoilt for choice in the mini market a few yards away on the front or you can buy from the pub next door.Most unusually and annoyingly this is a cash only restaurant. I can't remember the last time I went for a curry and they hadn't got a card machine, one can only wonder why. It wouldn't be too bad if there was a free ATM in Aberdovey.

We ordered a Take Away & drove 8 miles each way to collect. Tiny portions, tasteless & they forgot the rice we ordered. We ordered a Masala which contained only 6 small pieces of chicken. Save yourself the money & pick up a Tesco ready meal (far superior) on the way to Wales.

We visited over the Easter period, initially a little concerned as there was no sign of life at the restaurant at its 5.30'opening time,! However a phone call confirmed they would be open and there would be no need to book .We must have got there about 7.00 and were the only diners , however we were made to feel very welcome with a very friendly and enthusiastic owner/ waiter . We last visited a few years ago and the interior is now very clean and fresh .We were not the only diners , and in the course of the evening the waiter managed to juggle the diners in the restaurant and take away collections.The food was fantastic, so compliments to the chef, tasted and presented beautifully

We went on a midweek night and thought we would still be waiting for our food at the weekend. Poor service and average food. Staffing problems they said. And they only take cash or cheque.

Got to Aberdovey late friday so desperately hunted down somewhere to eat. We came across this little gem and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Beautiful .

Excellent food, good service, quality of the chicken was first class. Very comparible with good city indian restaurants i have visited i wouldn't hesitate to visit again
