It is a very nice place in a very quiet town with very minimal shops. The food here is delicious but the 4 is due to the Costs of food. A bit pricey for average costs however if it's worth it is very debatable. Everyone there is very friendly and give a personalized service at times.

I booked a table for myself and friends for a birthday get together. This was my first visit but it had been recommended by others. On arrival I was surprised at the size. One half is a beautiful Deli, and the other half, a very tastefully decorated and inviting cafe/coffee shop. Our table was waiting for us and was very spacious. There was a wide selection of food on offer, offering some delicious options. All our food came out together and really was absolutely delicious. The staff were all so friendly. There are some lovely little treasures in the shop too. I look forward to returning very soon.

We went to Bay Leaves Larder after visiting alpaca walking nearby and were really pleasantly surprised. The cafe has a lovely style between homely, styled cafe and delicatessen with lovely little quotes and inspiring posters on the walls. The menu was clear and simple and our food arrived quickly and was delicious. The bread for our rolls and sandwiches was soft and fresh and the fillings were generous and tasty. Nice little touches such as mugs with a rainbow and message on was appreciated. The deli offers a chance to buy some locally sourced products and there was an awesome local gin selection to sample and buy. It’s so nice to see businesses supporting other local businesses. We had some great interaction with one of the members of staff who chatted about a few things and parking was easy as it was just outside. The only thing that would have improved this experience was a smile/hello from other members of staff as we walked in (seeings as they weren’t that busy) just to make us feel more welcome on arrival and reassure us to take a seat. Otherwise service was pleasant and efficient.

The only downside, for me, is the place appears to be dominated by chattering women, so avoid the school run times. Otherwise a pleasant local facility to have a quiet cup of coffee. The filter coffee is good, but could do with being hotter, but refills, are no charge. Will continue to visit when out that way, we’ll it’s only 500 yards away so no problem.

I really enjoyed my visit here. The eggs and smoked salmon were generous and well cooked. Service very good too especially as they were so busy. One tiny gripe was that lactose free milk for my coffee (oat milk) was charged at 40p extra for a tiny tiny jug. I only had a filter coffee so felt that was excessive. I appreciate I might pay more (although I have never had to at other establishments) but 40p!! Bit steep. Good job I didn’t have a latte!!

Good food and coffee but you expect that from an independent like this. Unfortunately you also expect good service because places like this live or die by their service, encouraging locals to come back again and again. The woman who served us was curt and unfriendly and seemed like we were really ruining her day by being there. We were giving this place a second chance as they were unfriendly last time too, but people can have off days. We won't be giving them a third chance, and it's a shame because we're very local.

My wife and I visited for a snack lunch and found the restaurant nearly full - very popular, indeed. I ordered a brie, bacon and cranberry baguette; my wife chose a sandwich with the same fillings. A few minutes later, I returned to the counter to make sure that neither dish would be heated. The reply was that the baguette would be heated and might therefore be rather crisp on the exterior. So, I switched to a sandwich instead. These were excellent, with the brie in perfect condition and good quality bacon. You can also sample from a large basket of condiments, and I chose Spicy Fig balsam vinegar dressing, which was a tasty addition. Since the filling of the sandwiches was cold, I asked why it could not have been put into an unheated baguette. The answer was that these are bought in par-cooked and have to be finished in the oven. That's a pity, as far as I am concerned, because a soft, fresh baguette, as served in most pubs, is very tasty indeed. Only one person was making up the dishes and we therefore had quite a long wait for our food (35 minutes). The coffees were good and the delicatessen atmosphere made it a pleasant place for a light meal. Since a large coffee is £2.80 and a normal one £2.60, it is a good idea to order a large one.

So we wanted a full English brekkie at just gone midday, and having tried 3 or 4 other likely establishments to no avail we ended up here - FEB no problem. Not the best, or the best value breakfast around (had it been breakfast time) but since it was the only breakfast around we weren't complaining. In hindsight it wasn't a huge or varied brekkie - could have done with many more baked beans (and why were they served in a separate tiny ramekin?), more than one small field mushroom, and black pudding and a sausage or two would have been nice. But at the time beggars couldn't be choosers.

Went for breakfast with a friend. Looks lovely, lots of lovely food on offer, pretty busy as well for a midweek morning. We ordered at the tills, the food was very nice, the service though?! What happened? It seemed that they didn’t really want us there tbh, couldn’t have hurt to smile, surely. I honestly don’t know if I would go again or recommend it. I would for the food and general look/feel of the place but not if the staff act like they don’t want us there. Also they do cover intolerances well although they charged 40p for different types of milk (except soya). My friend had oat milk and was given a tiny amount so asked for more and was given the carton. Also, I had a bottled drink from the fridge and wasn’t offered a glass, although some were stacked nearby so I just took one. It felt like the sort of place they would offer better service usually (also with the kind of cost where you expect better service).

I've since realised they use different sausages for their sandwiches to their English breakfast. The sausages included with the full English are delicious. The ones uses for sandwiches are different and have a coarse texture and funny flavor. The breakfast has quality ingredients. Thick bacon, great sausages and nice mushrooms and tomatoes. A good choice of toast (sourdough is best choice in my opinion) There is parking right outside, the are child friendly and they offer a 10% discount when you spend over £10. So close to perfection but I have to give the "Bay Leaves Larder" 5 stars as 4 wouldn't be enough. The smallest of changes required and one is down to my sensitive taste buds. If the plates could be warmed and some tomato puree added to the baked beans to remove the taste of the tin, perfection would be achieved. A nice upgrade to the breakfast would be to have sourdough toast as an option. We have been trying to find a local place serving local produce for a great breakfast and so far this place tops the bill.

I went here a few weeks ago with the intention of staying for 1 cup of tea, however ended up staying for 3 and lunch too! Have also attended a Friday evening event which was lovely. Great staff and food - would highly recommend.

!!!SHOCKING!!!Cold coffee, cold toast. Staff rude and stuck up! If your face doesn't fit you get treated terrible! To add to that I had just spent £6.45 on 2 hot drinks and round of very small cold toast served with jam that looked as thought it had been passed around the whole cafe for last few weeks! Very unhygienic! With everyone sharing same spoon absolutely shocking! Anyway used my card as didn't have any cash, lady took my payment then I forgot to order a Diet Coke and then had to pay an extra 50p on top of the overpriced can of Coke for 90p as I needed to use card machine again! £1.40 for a can of Coke! Lady didn't even apologise ! Said I would be writing on trip advisor and she said 'ok fine'. Stopped going here for a while as I have a baby and was made to feel very unwelcome & always got served cold beans on toast! Won't be returning! Food and service a lot better at Costa Chandlers Ford in Fryern Arcade nicer fresh food and staff down to earth and friendly! Also dogs are allowed in Bay Leaves and one pooped on the floor and apparently this was acceptable! No baby changing facilities which proves they don't encourage babies and dirty and I mean mega dirty kids crayons and toys! I asked for plastic baby spoon and they were scratch and dirty! So if you don't have kids and you don't mind dog poo it's ok. Hygiene is disgusting and will be making a phone call to environmental health! Avoid this place!

Bayleaves has to be one of the best cafes around. Friendly staff and amazing food. The Mars cake is a favourite. My partner and I visit here almost every weekend. Its such a relaxed place to eat and browse. The staff are so approachable and service has always been great. I just wish they were open on a Sunday as well.

A lovely location, a little on the expensive side but the food is very good as is the atmosphere.
