This place stuck at the end of the high street is amazing. Amazing management and staff and the food is so lovely. Went with some friends and we had a lovely night. Recommend it to anyone. Well done everyone.

What an excellent choice for to celebrate with my husband on his birthday. Our first visit as we were regulars at Mario's until it closed, however this is a perfect replacement. Food delicious, lovely bardolino wine and excellent service all you need for a brilliant night. Thank you see you next time😊⭐.

Had a nice little dinner date tonight with my kids. Chloe, Aishi and Louisa were top notch on the service. Complements to the chef for my chicken Milanese and for the kiddos pizza. Ice cream was good too!

Absolutely amazing, food was hot, tasty and plentiful, even our 1 year old granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her food too, the chicken livers starter is simply divine, the seafood risotto was so tasty too, seafood was plump and fresh….will definitely be back very soon…..huge thank you to the chefs and to the waiting staff…..if you choose to visit I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed!! :-) x

Fabulous meal this evening. Best monkfish I've ever had. Gorgeous sticky toffe pudding and superb fresh starter zucchini and mozzarella salad Great service, atmosphere and ambience. Great restaurant in our local area. Reasonably priced. We'll done all.

Very nice meal even though we were a large group which is often a challenge for a restaurant. The food is not fancy but it is good quality and a pleasure to eat.

Great food and service. Shame it's impossible for those with disabi!ities. This restaurant has been here for years which is testament to how good it is. Sadly in all that time they have never considered putting in a lift or stair lift or even a decent handrail. The stairs are difficult. Even if you do manage to get to the restaurant you have to go back down a small flight then up another small flight to get to the toilets. Used to go regularly but as mobility has decreased it is now impossible

New menu - great choices & great food. They have definitely upped their game. There were 10 of us & the staff coped really well with that. Def recommend.

I recently dined at this Italian restaurant, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a genuine sense of hospitality from the staff. Their friendliness set the tone for a fantastic evening.

Enjoyed a 3 night trip to Newcastle. Enjoyed a wonderful meal. The service was superb, the food exceptional. I had a seafood risotto which I have to say is the best Ive ever tasted! Would highly recommend and would definitely return in the future. It was very traditional and there wasn't an empty table in the place (which speaks volumes!)

Rang up Thursday 8th June to ask if necessary to book for next day, lunch time. Girl advised yes, better to book as if no bookings, they may not open up. Booked for 1pm Friday. Arrived at locked doors at 10 to 1, rang number, engaged. My husband rang again at 1.45 and Joe answered, said they were open! then changed the story to say they received a cancellation, from one of us, due to illness, what a load of rubbish!! We had planned to come back with family and friends at a later date, if the meal was good, so they will be missing out on a few hundred £ in business there. Whatever happened to customer service, honesty and morality. Ruined our day.We will never again consider visiting this establishment.

We have visited Basilico on three occasions recently and it never fails to impress. We have always chosen different options each time we visit and the quality and value is noteworthy. The service is excellent and the non fussy decor lends to a relaxed atmosphere - it's always been busy and buzzy whenever we have been. The varying ages of diners highlights how versatile the menu and how welcoming it is to everyone!

Visited for the first time, but remember visiting Mario’s just off the Big Market many years ago. Lovely Restuarant, friendly, excellent service, nice vibe, lovely menu with a good selection of specials and delicious home made deserts. Top marks all round. Definitely return.

This was the first time we visited this restaurant and certainly won’t be the last. The service and food were outstanding. The fillet steaks were cooked to perfection and the starters/other main course dishes were fabulous. We will certainly be returning. The staff make you feel very welcome.

I met a friend here for dinner last night and we both thought that the food, ambiance and service was excellent. The prices are also reasonable considering the quality. If you want a family owned local restaurant then this is the place to go to!

I have been working away for a few weeks and trying to sample some local eats with high reviews on Google. I opted for this place as I like the nature of Italian cooking and is described as family run which is a little more endearing than chains. I had calamari and then a black squid ink spaghetti with langoustine ("hope I spelt that right) and cherry tomatoes. Everything was lovely, can't fault the cooking. The service was great too, very approachable and chatty. All smiles and all the other customers seemed to be having a wonderful time.

My wife and I have been regular visitors to this restaurant for many years. It truly is, as the singing group 'Sly and the family stone' sang, ' Its a family affair'. It comprises, of sister Chloe, who manages the restaurant, brother Mario, front of house, and the maestro in the kitchen, brother Joe. All ably assisted by long term front of house man Billy. We visited on Saturday 1st October 2022, and as usual, there was a pleasing buzz and ambiance about the place. There was a largish birthday party being catered for, as well as some of the faces that we are accustomed to seeing there. The clientelle was of mixed ages and respectful of each other. But now, the whole point of my review, the food. We have enjoyed many items from the menu, sea food, pastas, lamb. and steaks. On Saturday after a delicious starter of mussells we opted for the steak. My wife had a fillet with a peppercorn sauce, which she said was superb. I went for the rib-eye steak. Well when the rib-eye arrived I was surprised at the size, but on tasting it......well I've eaten a great many steaks in my time, but this was the finest rib-eye I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It truly was 'Magnificent' We will continue to support this excellent establishment, for its good food, professional staff.and overall 'feel good factor' Never anything other than true satisfaction.

This restaurant never fails to impress.It is a family run business that I have always rated highly since the eighties.We visited the restaurant yesterday. After the lockdown period. I have to say attention to detail is still present. In decor and service. I opted for potato skins starter my wife had salmon. Both were excellent. My main meal was Pollo pizza my wife's choice being a chicken paster dish , both were tasty and cooked to perfection. Our bottle of wine was super not your average plonk. Not sure however I have a feeling it was imported by the restaurant itself.We finished off with two Tia Mria coffees Altogether it was a great evening. This restaurant is much better than the bigger chain establishments.I have no hesitation to recommend this place to all. Take my advice take a short Metro ride from Newcastle City center to Ilford Rd station. Then walk to Gosforth high St where the restaurant is situated. Mario and staff should be very proud of their restaurant its fabulous. John G Durham.

The old Gosforth Assembly Rooms is now Basilico - nice setting and nice food, however there are now loads of Restaurants on Gosforth High Street so standard's have to be high. Still worth a visit !

The redheughers met at Basilicos for our christmas night out. The 2 course special was great value we all enjoyed our starters and mains. The bruschetta was delicious, and my salmon was cooked to perfection.

The muscles were fantastic. I couldn't belive the size of them as they were a starter. We were a table of I and everybody absolutely love their starter and mains. Would definitely go back.

This is the sister restaurant to Mario's in Newcastle. It's a bit out of the way if you don't live in South Gosforth. It's a much larger place so social distancing not a problem. Qué experiencia tan maravillosa tuvimos anoche cuando llevamos a la familia a Basilico's, la recepción en la planta baja fue segura y completa. No podíamos entrar hasta que nos hubiéramos revisado la temperatura y hubiéramos usado los desinfectantes, si no hubiéramos hecho una reserva no hubiéramos llegado tan lejos.Nos acompañaron al piso de arriba y el reducido número de mesas, separadas de la siguiente por atractivas plantas, se hizo cuidadosamente. La comida es excelente, he estado allí muchas veces, pero este fue el mejor.Me sentí tan segura y tan cómoda como en mi propia casa, felicitaciones a la familia por reabrir y hacerla perfecta en todos los sentidos. We came here for a family meal to celebrate my 40th birthday. There were 45 of us and I can honestly say we had the best night!! The food as always was amazing, everyone was served their food close together and the atmosphere was electric. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the restaurant staff were great. A traditional Italian Sunday lunch, parsnip starter with side dish of blue cheese sauce is to die for,crackling on pork main dish is heavenly.Staff are truly out of this world.Well worth value for money.Thoroughly recommend.

Best Italian style Sunday lunch going... Ample portions of beautifully cooked belly pork with crispy crackling, roast sirloin and chicken breast. Las servilletas se compraron como papel en lugar de ropa, ya que son más higiénicas y, debido a que las personas que desean saltar directamente a los platos principales con mayor frecuencia en estos días, el pan y las aceitunas de cortesía se han omitido en parte del servicio. La comida era estupenda como siempre y el personal amable. El ambiente aquí era tranquilo y adecuado para la naturaleza pacífica del Basilico. Si busca simplemente pequeños cambios en la decoración, las servilletas y el pan y las aceitunas de cortesía, este lugar puede parecer fallar, pero el servicio y la comida fueron excepcionales, como siempre. No se puede juzgar un restaurante solo con las servilletas. Visitamos 16/4 después de leer las críticas negativas (esperando un cambio para peor) y nos quedamos asombrados de lo equivocados que estaban al tomar la razón. Basilico es una empresa familiar y no ha cambiado mucho, a excepción de los cambios menores debidos a las cambiantes necesidades de los clientes y la necesidad de hacerlo rentable. What has happened to Basilico? Lovely front of house waitress has disappeared along with the linen napkins and complimentary bread and olives. Food quality also poorer. Such a shame as I live over the road and have eaten here for years. Won't be rushing back

Walking inside feel like your entering the set of Gordon’s Ramsay’s show kitchen nightmares. To be honest I would like to see him do a review of the place. The decor is starting to look like a care home, not sure how long this place has got left. However, I think that if there are big crowds, there will be a predisposition for people to psychology believe the food is good when it’s all a lie.

Visited with friends early on Saturday evening. The food was top notch, and outstanding value as we ate from the set menu which has lots of choice. Let's be honest - Newcastle has loads of Italian restaurants including four on this street but this is certainly one of the best. The service was impeccable and at around £90 for a 2 course meal for 4 adults with 4 beers and a bottle of wine was worth every penny.

Tuve las salchichas caseras que eran excelentes, picante pero no demasiado caliente y muy carnoso. Las otras tres personas en nuestro grupo estaban igualmente satisfechas con su comida. One of my favourite places to eat, a traditional family Italian, a bit more upmarket than most and the food is excellent quality, the fish and steaks are really good. Traditional style decor, you go upstairs to get to it from the High Street. Shame the drinks are a little expensive but otherwise great the staff are very friendly.

We visited with a large family group on Easter Saturday. Was a lovely meal, good choice of veggie options, good service. Nice pink gin. Pleasant evening and good food. We would go back again.

It’s been a wee while since we frequented Basilico but it’s as good as we remembered if not better! Decor etc slightly more up market than I recall but still extremely friendly and welcoming. Very busy even early Friday evening but service excellent, portions more than adequate and didn’t feel rushed. Definitely go back soon.

I live locally and this is my go to place on the High St. Always a warm and very friendly welcome by the owner managers. They have a great menu of standards but what I love is their specials board. There's always something a little different. My last visit I had calves liver from the specials. Also with noting that the wine list here may not be extensive but is very good value. The markups can't be that high, refreshing to see. Popular with Gosforth locals and always busy.

Came here for a family meal for 5 at the weekend. The service is perfect every time. The wines are limited, but great choices and all reasonably priced. The menu has a great selection without being overbearing - classic Italian choices. I personally had a steak this weekend and it was excellent- cooked to perfection. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals immensely. The atmosphere is nice, very chilled, welcoming. I have been many times and will continue to do so - my family love this restaurant and will no doubt be back again soon.

This was not our first visit to Basilico and we visited for family meal on Saturday 17th Feb, and had requested a round table as we were a party of five. Upon arrival we were welcomed, shown to our table (which was round) and given time to make our choices.

Managed to park for free in an adjacent street, went in without a booking, and probably got the last available table! From then on, it was just pure pleasure ! A vast menu to choose from, and starter and main course were nicely prepared, and served with a flourish, showing pride in what they were putting before you. Very polite service, wonderful flavours, and a real pleasure to be there. Nicely lit and furnished. Comfortable. Reckon booking would be advisable for next time !

Been here many times and the food and service is always very good

Última noche foursome (10 / 6 / 17) 9:00 pm. El lugar estaba a dos tercios completo y sus habituales luminosas y ventiladas propia. El personal es acogedor, las mesas estaban muy bien presentados. Cuatro primeros, bien recibida y pronto. Mi trío de arancini eran muy buenos, y juntos hicieron una importante hueco en mi apetito. El dúo de los filetes de besugo en salsa de ajo y crema con almejas era un principal bien, el pescado no cocidas ni falta de tamaño. Bastante increíble! Dos postres y café con Sambuca terminó la noche y bebidas, incluyendo cinco, así que una factura por un poco menos de £110. Buen precio, buena comida y una noche relajante en general.

En general, el personal es servicial, a pesar de que era demasiado caro y muy insuficiente. 100 libras por cuatro personas, dos postres, no había café y dos copas de vino; nos sentimos como mala relación.

Lovely friendly atmosphere. The starters were great my calamari was in very light batter with a hint of chilli. The house wine was good and the food was well cooked. If you are looking for a good well priced restaurant on the High Street then this is the place to go.

was really looking forward to some good honest Italian food after reading the reviews however left very disappointed.starter was a very dry large plate of tasteless chicken livers followed by the smallest pizza I have ever seen in an Italian restaurant with a chewy Base and I'm still not convinced it was my order of 4 cheese and mushrooms coukd not taste any blue cheese at all. My friend ordered steak rare but it arrived medium which the waitress argued about despite there being no pink at all and on sending it back the new one arrived well done it was slso tough and dry so they finally refunded the price and gave a glass of prosecco but that left my friend without food and hungry whilst the 2 waitresses whispered I'm corners and gave nasty looks to our table. no we won't be returning or revommending

How many times have I driven past this restaurant? Hundreds! I've really never fancied it. So when my friends browbeat me into submission convincing me it was good I relented, unfortunately it failed miserably. Dr Who couldn't make this up. They may have gotten away with this old fashioned English/Italian style in the 80's but it's faded glory is long gone. On entering there's a stale fishy stench in the air, my Lemon Sole was overcooked, bland and mushy, my friends food was average, I rest my case. Nice waitresses though....

It looks like this was a one off for us as this place seems to have great reviews.We booked a table and were disappointed to be seated next to the kitchens with other tables available all night in better parts of the restaurant, I didnt say anything to start with as I dont mind being seated next to the kitchen and it only became disappointing when I kept getting knocked by staff coming out with food. I received a huge plate of white bait to start which i ate half of (nothing wrong here so feel free to save some money and serve less), my wife had a very very smooth pate which was more of a moose it was so smooth, it just didnt seem very nice. When looking at the menu, we noticed that the word fresh had been crossed out of the pasta offerings and surely enough, my wife received some over seasoned meat balls on dried and boiled pasta, if we make our own fresh pasta at home surely a restaurant asking £10 for a main course should be doing the same? I had pizza which was ok but the base was so perfectly round I can only assume it was another product that was bought in.Deserts were ok so no complaints here.We asked for the bill and noticed a discrepancy, the waitress went away, came back, apologised but then still charged me the original amount with me not noticing till after I had paid.As mentioned, it was hard to say anything at the time as there was nothing majorly wrong until we got fleeced for the higher bill but the whole thing for £30 a head was just a bit disappointing. Never mind, clearly its us and not the restaurant with the other reviews so we will not be returning.

This is our niece's favourite restaurant in Gosforth so we took her again last night after work.Once you climb the 20 or so steps to get in you are warmly welcomed into a lovely homely atmosphere.The staff are incredibly friendly and do everything they can to make your dining experience one to remember.Service is excellent and the food is always top quality.Well done and thank you for giving us another wonderful night.
