Basil Habour Cafe in Highland

To add to my previous review the owner of Basil's does NOT welcome disabled customers I'm going to report him both myself and friend were turned away using the excuse we spent too long and spent too little

Looking for somewhere to have lunch, we found basil Harbour cafe, we had a fantastic fish finger sandwich and a big bowl of chips as a side order. The food was quickly served and was of generous portions, very tasty indeed. Lovely little cafe by the harbour, we would highly recommend as somewhere to eat. Whilst eating our lunch noticed some artwork from local artists for sale, we treat ourselves to a lovely painting of a stag on the hillside, which the cafe staff kindly wrapped up for us. Thanks again.

We had coffee and cakes, coffee excellent as were the cakes. Staff happy friendly and helpful, perfect end to a nice walk around the harbour and beach

Very nice little cafe, food was excellent, especially the soup, and good service. Very busy at lunch time but we didn’t have long to wait.

Good quality sandwiches & soup, the cakes are delicious too! Well worth a visit if you're feeling peckish.

Really good little cafe, serving sandwiches, hot meals, cakes, teas, coffees and soft drinks, small and cosy directly opposite the harbour, limited outdoor seating 3 small tables each having 2 chairs, staff were friendly enough and prices reasonable.

Here on Fri 7th Jul just after opening time - got just what we needed a good hearty breakfast and they did amend the menu items to suit my preferences. Bacon with eggs and mushrooms - fantastic! I was also lucky enough to taste the smoked salmon my wife had - superb! Toilet was small but very clean. Well worth the visit!

A nice little cafe. Wasn't many places open on a Sunday so we were pleased when we found this cafe. Stopped in for a late breakfast and we were glad we did. Simple food, but very nice.(I am very fond of Larne sausage!!) Staff all very busy but always smiling.

Never seen a place so mean with Chips as this cafe. 16 Chips, with a Smallish Taste free Burger on a Basic bun with some leaves a halved cherry tomato and a teaspoon worth of a shop bought coleslaw £10.50 An absolute rip off And when I ordered another portion of Chips the lassie looked shocked!! With 2 Mochas and 2 of these Basil Burgers we were £32 Never again

Fabulous warm coffee with coffee and walnut cake ,friend had a scrumptious warmed pancake here yesterday . Always busy Nairn harbour front cafe with great food,popular with tourists and locals alike - don’t miss it!

Though small this place turns tables over quickly so unusual to wait for long. Friendly, capable staff giving a fast service. Skilled cooking so unusual in some establishments. Looks like a happy enthusiastic crew, again something lacking in other places. Highly recommend going there.

Thank you so much for being so inclusive and offering a gluten free menu! It really makes life so much easier and enjoyable as a coeliac to turn up to somewhere not expecting to eat more than a soup (if at all) and then discovering you can have sandwiches and delicious cakes! After a poor reception being spoken to very rudely in two cafes in Nairn we found this lovely place by the Harbour. Really pleasant chap and girl food above exceptional had 2 large breakfasts and a scone. Really clean would highly recommend a visit or two. Excellent food, service, really clean well worth every penny!!

I have been to this cafe a few times and the food is really nice but today I was a bit taken aback. I ordered food to takeaway and my bill was £9.50. I handed over £10 and the girl said to wait outside for my order I hung around for a few moments to get my 50p change but she said again to wait outside for my order, so I went outside. I never challenged her on my 50p change ( as it was only 50p) but I do feel that I should have offered the 50p and for me to say to her keep the change. It was just a bit weird.

We have been to this cafe a few times after we have been for a Sunday walk along Nairn beach and seafront. Today we decided to try the homemade pork and beef burger. It was absolutely delicious. In a different class from the well known burger chains!

Our new favourite place to visit, I felt compelled to write this review after I saw the previous negative as we were there to witness that afternoon, we didn’t stay long enough to order the food as the usual ‘pick up food table’ was occupied and we felt mortified by this mans behaviour, not nice to witness. Basil cafe is the place to go for ice creams, coffees and cake, always fresh and tasty, when the cafe was open for sit down, we loved the full breakfast, i find myself saying “this is the best ….,,, I’ve ever tasted”, including the fish chowder, chilli, mushroom ciabatta, I could go on! Despite having dogs, I do look forward to going back when they open up the cafe with a ‘no dogs’ policy, I have enough drooling wet dog staring at me eat at home!

This pathetic cafe must be the worst ever service no napkins or forks no brown sauce on the rolls or in sachets in the bag was shouted at twice by staff to move of the table we were going to move until a very rude !! Ignorant man was way above himself shouted stupidly and angrily don’t recommend . Very poor !!!

They only served take away due to Covid situation but nevertheless we had some ice cream and cuppa one day and other day we had sandwiches and cuppa. No complaints. Only wish was they stayed open bit later than 430pm as massive queue and we tend to have a cuppa around that time!

They were only doing take away when we were in Nairn. Lots of food, drink and ice cream choices. Purchased, hot chocolate, coffee, a sandwich and ice cream (two choices of cone or a paper cup). The ice cream came with a serviette round the cone, which is brilliant. It is one of my pet hates that ice cream sellers often handle the cone and don't wrap it in a serviette so I end up throwing half of the cone away. I asked about whether the Orkney cheddar cheese in the sandwich was vegetarian and the people in the cafe went out of there way to establish whether vegetarian rennet was used and it was. I was so impressed with the level of service and you can see into the kitchen when you are ordering your food and it is immaculate. There are plenty of places to sit nearby, it is just a shame that they shut at about 4/4.30 as I would have gone back for another drink. I can't recommend this cafe highly enough and I would definitely go back. They are doing a brilliant job.

Just went for ice cream and was impressed by the quality of the ice cream, excellent, you won’t be disappointed. Compared to the others selling ice cream nearby this by far the best tasting and value for money.

After a walk round the harbour decided on a coffee to warm up. Unfortunately the wait for a table was 15mins so took a take away ice cream in stead. Choice of cone tub or wafer. Decided on one scoop because I was already cold (in June!). The portion was huge and we had to sit down to eat it before it all melted. A very reasonable price.

Just back from this great place. I had a chicken parmesan and pesto mayo sandwich. It was really good. My husband had a haggis and cheese ciabatta. I was quite sceptical however I am now a convert. It is great quality food. Even better sitting eating it on a very sunny day.

We visited the Basil while on holiday in the area recently.My wife had scampi and chips and i had the cullen skink. The scampi was served with chips, coleslaw and a side salad. The cullen skink with a choice of warm bread.The food was very good and reasonably priced.The service we received was friendly and attentive.A good experience.

Nice friendly welcome. Great quality food, tasty and generous sized. Ciabatta with halloumi cheese and peppers was excellent.The peppers were cooked to perfection. Beef and pork burger was so tasty and on a really nice roll. Just at the harbour so was nice to sit on a bench nearby looking onto the sea eating some great food.

Came here with my family for a lunch stop after we walked along the beach. I had the bacon and Brie panini and it was amazing. Will definitely return to sample more of the food

We visited in COVID times so was only take away. Reasonable selection. We opted for panini which were lovely but huge. As take away we walked past the harbour to a picnic table overlooking the beach through the dunes. A great experience

We have been visiting regularly before lockdown. Clean dinning area, quiet and polite service. Love the hand cut chips with chilli beef. Delicious 😋

Just popped in for coffee only did take away due to covid but was very clean & organised order in one one section & they brought coffee in another for you to collect have to say excellent coffee well worth a visit and a great view of the harbour

Visited today on recommendation of a friend who was with me. Have to say the food was delicious (although we thought a bit pricey), freshly made and very quick to arrive and the young girl serving was more than helpful and extremely polite. The same however can not be said of the owner (?) Jamie who was extremely rude to my friend. With tables and chairs already packed together (my back was hard up against the wall heater) there’s barely enough room to get in and out. An elderly lady came to sit behind us and Jamie - in a very loud voice - shouted at my friend to ‘turn her chair’ to let the other lady in. Had he hung about we would have asked where to turn as we were already squashed together like sardines. The young girl was very embarrassed and apologised for his behaviour when we paid. 10/10 for food and staff but 0/10 for Jamie’s customer service.

My partner and I visited here on January 2 this year for a spot of lunch. The Cullen Skink to die for! Excellent food and very reasonable prices served by a very friendly team. What more is there to say? We'd love to come back some day.

A very friendly cafe by Nairn harbour. Close to harbour and a fantastic menu. I really enjoyed the food and helpful in advice that I asked for as I was sailing to Orkney. 10 out of 10 for me

Small little cafe next to harbour which gets very busy. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Menu has both snacks and meals available. Cullen skink is a must. Lots of freshly baked scones and cakes with nice coffee available.

Exploring the coast on bank holiday, found this lovely little cafe. Friendly to visitors, but used by locals too (always a good sign). Food good at reasonable café prices. Lucky to get the seat with the view of the harbour.

Visited the café on a Saturday morning after a winter walk beach combing on the wonderful Nairn beach. Very friendly staff. We had wonderful warm mince pies and coffees with a very large slice of walnut cake. Opens at 10 am so ideal. Child friendly very clean tidy and inviting.

I so love the tapas night here it was brilliant but they have now stopped which is such a shame and they were booked out the door. Chefs are amazing and even lunch here is fabulous. Great atmosphere too.

Basils cafe is a great place to stop off, for a refreshment, bite to eat or a snack. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are always welcoming and it's ideally placed with lovely views over the harbour, the moray firth and beyond.

Went last week with family. Cosy little place and tasty food. I had the goats cheese, beetroot and squash sandwich, delicious! Others had soups and paninis, all good.

Popped in for a quick bite whilst passing through. We received a very warm welcome despite it being gone 3pm. Offered a good selection of dishes by very friendly smiley young lady. Opted for a home made carrot, honey and ginger soup which was delicious. Husband had brie and bacon ciabatta - no complaints there either. Cappuccino and a cold drink consumed - decent sized coffee. Quick friendly service. Reasonable prices and clean and tidy place. Lovely.

I am sorry to have to write this but I was embarrassed at the way we were treated here when I visited with my friend who was up for a visit from Glasgow.

Clycled to Nairn and set about looking for a café with a nice view. Came across this little beauty. Busy with friendly staff, great brunch selection. Service was good and food arrived promptly.

Only had takeout ice creams, but flavours were good and the ice cream creamy. Breakfasts looked good and managed to use two chairs outside to eat as the ice cream was melting so fast. Small and compact inside and three tables outside. Would definitely go again for a meal.

Nice local cafe for a snack etc., right on the harbor front. If the weather permits, there are outdoor tables but they are in the shade, so it can still be cold.

Just visited after dog-walk as it is dog-friendly cafe. Had a cup of coffee and snacks. It was one of the finest cappuccino cake and brownie I ever had. I can clearly see why many people keep visiting here. I will come back again.

After leaving our rental before heading home went to this lovely little cafe ,the cafe was clean and tidy staff very pleasant and service was exceptional , this little cafe also welcomes small dogs which was great for me as on the day it was extremely hot and wouldn't leave the wee dog in the car ,again water dishes out for them always a nice touch

Would love to have been able to give comments but popped in for lunch ,soup and sandwiches on our mind BUT no glutten free rolls bread or oat cakes . Wife glutten intolerant so we left ... surely in this day and age you can have space in your freezer for some GF products

Our third visit today. If ever we are near Nairn, we try to come to Basil Harbour Cafe. It is small, but perfectly formed. Interesting and very tasty menu. Fresh ingredients perfectly cooked. Very friendly staff. Comfortable ambience. Why can't all cafes be like this?

Very friendly staff and our fox terrier was made most welcome. Had the tastiest sandwiches, made to order. Only thing lacking was a bit of salad to accompany them. We will be back.

Whilst out for a walk on the beech we stopped off here for coffee before doing the circular walk along the River Nairn. Excellent coffee and able to sit outside with our dogs. Small dogs are allowed inside but it's a small place so insode can get crowded.

Just had breakfast here and the service was excellent as was the food. I loved my veggie breakfast with halloumi and my hubby had the smoked salmon poached egg which was small but tasty. Coffee was Lavazza.

Stopped in for lunch, lovely friendly staff, great selection of food, the best bacon and brie ciabatta I have ever had, the chips are delicious and I loved that the dish came with thousand island on the side. Very quick also.

We hired the café for our son's 18th birthday party. Jamie and his team were outstanding catering for 28 hungry 18 year olds. Jamie put up with us decorating the restaurant and upsetting his set up. The quality of the Tapas was outstanding, very tasty and covering all the different food requirements and the food just kept coming. The atmosphere was great and everyone enjoyed themselves, apologies to the neighbours for the (tuneful) singing which seemed to break out sporadically. We cannot thank Jamie and the team enough for making the night so memorable.

Just by the harbour, it was the perfect place for a quick bite, staff were friendly, prices reasonable and the food very nice.

Situated on the harbour this is a lovely place for tea in the afternoon. Great service and lovely cakes! In common with many facilities at this time of year, please be aware that they close around 4pm. Well worth a visit.

Small but very pleasant. In summer, you can sit at the tables outside , bask in the sun ,people watch and admire the boats in the harbour. The soup is lovely and the cakes look great.

On a cold day it could not have been better. Hot home made soup, good hot coffee and a warmed scone to die for. Cheery young waitresses happy to help. One word: brilliant

Lovely little cafe with a delicious menu. Not a lot if tables so can fill up quickly but definitely worth a visit . Varied menu Including vegetarian . The Cullen skink is amazing and the cakes are varied and home made. Price is reasonable for what you get, you won't leave hungry. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Dog friendly as long as the dogs are well behaved.

When there are so many corporate chains, it is wonderful to know that you can still find a cafe that is friendly, welcoming and serves tasty food and is completely independent. We had breakfast, a delicious omelette and a sausage sandwich, which my very fussy son was delighted with! Also treated ourselves to cake...right choice! This cafe is kiddie friendly and also doggie friendly too and we met some lovely folk here. Really lovely staff too. Definitely recommended thanks!

Popped in for breakfast when staying in Nairn. A small little place but extremely friendly and happy to allow our dog in. Breakfast was fab. Would definitely recommend it.

Enjoyed lunch here today with a friend. I had the Basil burger and she had the chilli with ciabatta. They were both delicious. The order was promptly served. The staff were friendly and polite. Will definitely go back soon.

Piccola tavola calda situata sul porticciolo di Nairn. Siamo entrati dopo aver preso una bella quantità di vento fresco virgola giusto per scaldarci un po' abbiamo ordinato una zuppa del giorno che nella fattispecie era con patate e porri. Prezzo per ogni zuppa di 3 sterline e 50 penny, adattissimo sia per la quantità che la qualità del cibo. Ovviamente non è un ristorante vero e proprio ma serve un piatto veloce o caldo o freddo giusto per spezzare la fame.

Great food and kind service. We came for lunch and really enjoyed it. Fish was extremely fresh and better than “Scotland’s best fish and chips” in St Andrews. Nice specials too and a very pleasant atmosphere!

Enjoyed the excellent tapas evening with some friends. The dishes were very tasty and excellent value. They allow you to BYO wine to complement the dishes.
