Barolo Italian Bar & Kitchen in Glasgow City

We came here after we arrived Glasgow by train at around 9.45am. We had a great Scottish breakfast and an Italian Al Forno. The restaurant is located on an alley but close to Queen Street station. The ambience was very pleasant and the guests and staffs were all very polite.

Fabulous, delicious and truly Italian food in a very nice place with friendly and attentive staff. We ate the first day upon our arrival in Glasgow and, before leaving, we did not want to say goodbye without returning again. Fantastic.

We absolutely loved it. Found it totally by chance, we went for a drink the previous night, were well received.. so we decided to book for the night after! The quality, the atmosphere, the attention to details and also the prices which we thought were really correct. With my partner being Italian, and me being French, we know good food! Our meals were very tasty, the food excellent and very nicely presented... The restaurant does a mix of authentic Italian cuisine with occasional scottish influence (very nicely done!), fabulously cooked pasta, I recommend the Mafalde Rosse... oh.. and the tiramisu is to die for! Big "coup de coeur" for this fabulous restaurant! Totally recommend!

Nice clean restaurant. Food passable but not enough in main pasta meal and starter(mozzarella fritter only 1). We were still hungry after meal. Had a £75 voucher and used it for 4 people and had to add money to final bill...2 pasta meals and 2 pizza meals and 2 starters, 4 soft drinks..10% Service charge of £8 added but option to disregard. Service charge in my opinion should not be on bill as its misleading and embarrassing if you ask for it to be excused. Customers should be asked before ordering if they want service charge to be added.

They recommended us to eat at Barolo and it was a great success. We ordered the Sunday menu which includes a starter and main course and it was incredible. We chose the starter tasting and the fried mozzarella to start and the rissotto and their special meat dish with vegetables, whiskey sauce and a base of some kind of bread. We were delighted with both the flavor and preparation of all the dishes, as well as the service, all very attentive and pleasant. Highly recommended!!

Friendly service. Great food and reasonable prices.

The pizza and calamari were delicious, waiters were helpful but it’s clearly that the chef doesn’t know how to cook a steak, i have returned my steak twice for overcooking and undercooking which took him more than 30 mins to make it again and in addition to the rest of our main dishes which was not that great( salmon , seabass, Tortellini).

I think the food in this place needs to be talked about more because it was excellent ♥️ Totally enjoyed the portion size and Taste of the food. The ambience was very elegant as well.

Went for the four course VIP menu and it was fantastic, great quality, portion size was good and service was spot on. Would recommend if you are in Glasgow city centre.

Arrived asking to be seated outside if that was ok ,nobody else was outside however it was a balmy 17 degrees in Glasgow and it wasn't yet raining. It was 6.20. I ordered a glass of primitivo and drank a little and reviewed the food menu. I ordered the frutti di mare pizza at 16.95 fair enough. It was very soggy I get pizza napolitan style but this was just soaking up the tomato and seafood water that had arrived with the pizza which was not blessed with the fruits of the sea it promised calimari king prawns and mussels.and something else that I have forgotten (and clearly so did the chef) It sounded delightful but I got a few reheated cooked prawns so seriously bouncy, 5 maybe six small mussels absolutely blitzed and overcooked , the shells were cracked and missing parts and the look was bad , but on top of that I was not expecting those bits to be scattered in with the rest of the pizza crunching through a bit on each slice , wow ! I told them the waitress that was serving me said ooh I will tell the chef ,to which after after 45 minutes of not being seen by anyone I went into the restaurant asking the bar staff if it was possible for someone to serve me. My waitress came back apologizing and said the chef and general manager were informed and they will be sure to sift through everything in the future. I ordered cheesecake and another glass of wine well I had been there a good hour and half and more. The cheesecake was still missing 25 minutes later to when again I went in the restaurant asking if my waitress could serve me. I got my pudding and I was soggy and from a jar which had been in the be fridge ,fair enough again it's cheesecake it go's into fridge but 30 minutes to get it. I paid bill when I was able to get service again and the they had taken off a wine and did not charge for the pud so fair enough( 25 quid when it should have been closer to 40) on that but not really the point to agree to pay the prices for the food and to get two things from a restaurant good food and service both did not live up to previous high standards of customer service I have seen at Barolo or in fact some of the food which I have tried here. I left it was 8 50, I got a rather condescending/sarcastic sounding and you have a lovely evening I was very disappointed , the intention had been to come in chill after stressful day and was left with a bad taste in more ways the one . I wonder if I will go back?

Went there with my partner and family and all of us were delighted with the service provided from the team and the good food.

This place was amazing, we went for lunch to meet a friend. We booked in advance as it was a Saturday cocktail and beer was ordered, pizza, calzone and an amazing chicken dish food was perfect (and you can take your leftovers home with you) only fault asked for the bill and 15mins later still no sign so had to get another waitress to get it she came straight back so was fine. The place was packed out so make sure you book. Would 100% go back.

Really not sure if some of the prices reflect the quality, especially with Sugo’s nearby. However service and atmosphere was far better, much less rushed.

I had a little hesitation about going to Barolo having seen some lackluster reviews. My concerns were entirely unfounded. Our meal was superb; faultless. The staff were friendly and attentive, providing great service. I've eaten in a few of the city centre Italians and this is right up there with the best. Looking forward to going back.

We was recommended here from staff at our hotel, The pizza are excellent, lovely fluffy crusts. The tiramisu is one of the best i have ever tried. Service excellent

I recently came and really enjoyed everything about Barolo. We came for breakfast and booked for dinner later in the week. A hidden restaurant in plain sight. Service and food were excellent in lovely surroundings 5/5

Fantastic host/ manager/. Matteo made us feel special and welcomed. Our dishes especially the Saltimbocca was very delicious. My crispy chicken burger was also delicious.

Good service and great food, there for a pre show meal, prawns on toast was lovely. All 4 had good thing to say about the food.

Nice atmosphere and nice staff! A glass accidentally broke, but they were really nice about it. Food was heavenly as well and not too expensive. Definitely would recommend.

We had an absolutely lovely evening. There’s always a nice buzz in Barolo. We started with the Antipasto Della Casa sharing plate to give us a taste of 7 different things which we really enjoyed. Then two of us had the Linguine Al Gamberi . The pasta perfectly cooked and sauce was so tasty, The other person had the Risotto Cremoso which she said was delicious. Service was exceptional. Every member of staff was friendly and welcoming, efficient and attentive. Couldn’t fault anything. Looking forward to returning.

I loved the food and drink offerings here. They were very accommodating to my wife’s gluten intolerance and the server spent time helping us find the best food and drink options for our tastes.

We had two lovely meals here on our trip to Glasgow. I’m gluten free and my husband is not, and we both left happy. The waiter was courteous and knowledgeable both nights and the spritz and whiskey selections suited us both. I had Pasta Arriabiata and my husband had pizzas, and I had minestrone to hold me over. If you’re gluten free or have allergies, they have a dedicated menu. The only downside is that the GF bread seemed store bought.

I visited with friends (4 in total in our party). On entering, my first impression was that I'd booked a table in a pizzeria. We were shown to table in the rear of the restaurant, which was much better. That area felt a bit more sophisticated. I had an excellent negroni... congratulations to the cocktail maker. The food was excellent and like many good Italian restaurants offered some unusual Italian specialities. The menu also included traditional and typical pastas and pizzas. Unfortunately the service didn't meet the same standard as the food. The staff, while initially welcoming, were a little inattentive and didn't engage very much. A little attention would have gone a long way to improving the experience. At the end of the meal, I had to leave the table to find a waitress to order coffee. But for the service, I'd have given the restaurant four stars overall based on the food.

Nice stylish restaurant, pleasant service and really good food and wine. But while serving food in a bowl may look stylish it is awkward to eat out of.

Very disappointing,camalari was tiny crunchy pieces, difficult to find any squid in it, in a murky mayo.Gnocchi ,with Italian sausage (where?) Some walnut and a bitter pumpkin sauce on one side and tasteless cream sauce. On menu looked good but really not very good.Will not be back

Very authentic Italian food. It's obviously all made on the premises. Plus the best pizza I've had in a long time! I'm vegetarian and had no problem - lots of choices.

Disappointed with this place I'm sad to say. I had poached eggs but they were solid. I ordered a second coffee but unfortunately it took so long we ended up going to pay the bill just as it was being served. I think they were short staffed the day we visited most other reviews are glowing.

In giro per Glasgow con mia moglie alla ricerca di un locale per cenare ci siamo imbattuti in questo ristorante dove abbiamo cenato di qualità con prezzi decisamente nella media di Glasgow. Ad accoglierci ed impreziosire la serata abbiamo trovato Matteo, ragazzo che lavora qui e che ormai da anni vive a Glasgow, che sicuramente da un tocco in più a quello che è già un ristorante di alto livello. Ci torneremo. Consigliatissimo!

The overall ambiance is cozy and lovely, featuring a serene atmosphere with no disruptive music. However, a notable aspect is that a majority of their dishes include pork, and I encountered some resistance from the waiter, as he seems so offended, when I requested assistance in finding a pork-free option.

Poached eggs were solid in both mine and my partner's meals, meaning my full Scottish breakfast was incredibly dry, and her eggs benedict was disappointing. See the pic for proof. We waited so long for our second coffee to come that we got up and asked for it to be cancelled. We also got the bill at the same time. Service was painfully slow, and we saw many coffees on the side that had been prepared but not served to customers. Unsure if they were short staffed, but the guy we told wasn't so bothered. We still end up somehow paying £33 for two breakfasts, two drinks and some toast. Not cheap. Don't think we'll be back.

Came here for dinner and it was great! Had the mozzarella fritter to start which was so fresh and yummy. Then the burrata and truffle tortellini which was the nicest pasta I have had in a long time! Then finished with the panna cotta which was good. Lovely atmosphere and the staff were attentive and polite. Great food and great service! Would return.

Stunning Italian restaurant in the centre of Glasgow, whilst I’m not a fan of the booth seating arrangements, I must say that the food was outstanding and match by the incredible service. Recommended

In Glasgow for the day, Great flavours, and choice, pity I don't live nearer.

We were in Glasgow for the day and came across this restaurant, I must say it was the best meal I've eaten out in a long time. The starter a sharing platter was superb some of the flavours I've never tasted before, and the main course lasagna was equally delicious, what a chef. Pity it's not closer to where I live.

Had really nice dinner and wine. One of the dishes was too spicy for me, but when I told the waiter they made a new one that was less spicy and they were very kind about it. I was very anxious about saying anything but the manager was extremely friendly and understanding, even said to next time say that I need a mild version. Very pleasant experience!

Had an early morning breakfast at Barola - which, I appreciated they were open early! Food was excellent (with a decent sized breakfast menu), staff was attentive and pleasant, and we got in/out within an hour so we could get on to our next adventure. Given this place was so close to the train station and Buchanan Street, I expected expensive, touristy, sub-par food and I was delightfully proved wrong. Eat at Barola.

Boozy brunch with my husband. Quick friendly service and excellent food and drinks. Had a really lovely time. Couldn't fault it. Every member of staff was exemplary. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Had been given another suggestion for a dinner place down the street but saw the menu at Barolo and decided to eat there instead. It was a v busy Sat night and we got a table. Service was hands down 10/10, even better! The food was so yummy with pasta sauces fresh and flavorful. Quite a lovely evening.

The food at lunch today can only be described as dreadful: Bruscetta: one of the easiest things to make was dry and unappetising. The risotto was clearly made well in advance : it was lumpy, overcooked and had an overwhelming taste of bought in pesto. The pizza was burnt and dried out. All in all a terrible experience , other than very pleasant staff. The standard of cooking however is lamentable and I will not be returning. I did tell the manager when paying the bill that the risotto was awful and he merely nodded and looked unsurprised : that tells me a lot.

The service was okay, but they served the secondo at the same time as the main, which is not how it‘s supposed to be done. The atmosphere was acceptable, but way too cold and it was too loud. The food was unacceptable. Beautiful presentation but drenched in sauces and the tuna steak was so salty I could barely eat it. Because it was so expensive I tried scraping off the salt at the top and ate it anyways, but now it‘s been 3hrs and I‘m back at the hotel and have drank 2 whole bottles of water and my mouth is still salty. I complained to the server, she apologized but didnt do anything about it. Their Spritz drinks tasted of syrup instead of Prosecco. I would not recommend this restaurant and will never go back. 146£ (2 people) wasted.

Visiting Glasgow for a few days with my wife and stumbled upon Barola restaurant by chance. What a stroke of luck - a super venue with attentative friendly staff (but not too attentatve so as to be intrusive), a great relaxing ambiance and a prawn linguine / crab gnocchi to die for. Quite simply the best meals we have experienced for some time. Personally, loved the background music also with just about every track we heard hitting the spot. Thank you for a great experience 👍

One of the nicest breakfasts I've ever had

My friend and I went for breakfast here and it was delicious! The staff were very friendly and accommodating from the minute we arrived. We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful morning with our coffees and we had the eggs royale, which was cooked to perfection in my opinion I had no faults! If you are looking for an affordable and delicious place for breakfast I would highly recommend this place. I will likely be back to try their other menus too! Excellent prawn linguine, probably the best restaurant version I've ever had. Nice, friendly staff. The only reason that it wasn't five stars across the board is that we had to wait a long time to pay. Already recommended it to a friend!

One of my favorite restaurants in Glasgow! The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. The service is also fast, you don't have to wait long for your order. They were very flexible with any special requests we had regarding our order. I am absolutely in love with their truffle pasta, I went back to this place 2 times already just to have it again! Also, their Bruschetta is a dreaaam. The best one I've ever had. ✨️ would definitely recommend this restaurant to any italian food lovers!
