The restaurant is small but has a welcoming atmosphere. the food was just amazing, the combinations of flavours used were mind blowing, the staff were passionate about their food and local produce. Great staff knowledge of wines and pairing.it is very much like Tapas, offering small, medium and large plates, however we had monkfish between 2 of us , it was enormous but outstandingly fantastic.

Well what can I say - best meal we’ve had all week!Every dish was delicious. Some really creative dishes and service so friendly.Even the music playlist was brilliant. We had the deep fried oysters, popcorn mussels, chicken croquettes, steak and spicy potatoes. Washed down with a couple of cocktails. Forgot to take a photo of the steak as was so distracted by eating it! Steak cooked perfectly. Delicious baked cheesecake for dessert. Could not find one fault with the place. Me and my husband agree that this is the best place to eat in Padstow compared to the other bigger names places we tried this week. BOOK IN ADVANCE!

My husband and I were so looking forward to this after hearing it had opened as a sister restaurant to Prawn On The Lawn, which we had eaten at previously. Needless to say it didn’t disappoint! Fabulous little restaurant of just 6 tables for an intimate personal dining experience. Got to mention Henry who is an asset with his knowledge of dishes and friendly manner and love the concept of the sharing plates. We chose the not so small tapas dishes, six in all between the two of us, each with a different twist using a variety of herbs and spices. My particular favourite were the scallops with fenugreek and pistachio butter. Well done to the team in the kitchen for producing such wonderful food . A good selection of wines, gins and IPA’s are also available and the music playlist was even commendable. We left feeling happy and content after a thoroughably enjoyable evening and will be recommending Barnaby’s to others.

Small restaurant with fabulous food, good service, nice ambience. Sharing/tapas style food, great variety of fish, meat & vegan. Also bigger 'special' dishes available. We shared aubergine dip & bread to start, great. Then shared chicken croquettes (delicious), crab toast, lamb dish, potatoes & fish fillet (cant remember which, maybe lemon sole, delicious). All were great, well presented, quality ingredients & good value

A really tiny place, you can see the chef cooking the dishes. Excellent food and real value for money. We ordered five small plates and all were delicious! Mussel popcorn and chicken croquetas fabulous. Lemon sole amazing! One thing, we ordered the padron peppers because they are grown in Padstow but then we were later told they didn’t have any. Walk up the road and get some thought I...or know that they’re not on the menu that day. Brilliant food, we will return!

This has to be my new personal favourite Padstow restaurant, tiny place run by the same team that is behind the POTL in Padstow and London. It has a similar concept but the sharing dishes have a spicy and Middle East feel to them, start with oysters, deep fried are good but raw is better, then we tried Mussel popcorn and the Burnt Aubergine dip , the marinated BBQ lamb on flatbread and Cod with artichoke hummus were excellent but the star was the Roasted Cauliflower and the Crab toast Don’t bypass desserts as they are equally super especially the Burnt Cheesecake Can’t wait to return here , booking is essential

This was our first visit to Barnabys while we were on holiday in Cornwall, we have seen the resturant many times but never visited before. The cosy resturant is really inviting and the introduction and explanation of dishes was great. We were sharing dishes between 4, we were recommended to have 3 dishes but we did order 4+ and the waiter did say we probably had ordered too much but needless to say we managed to eat it all! The flavours were absolutely delicious, the rib eye steak was really great and would recommend choosing this option if within a group. The price was really reasonable for the quality of the dishes and will be returning on our next visit

I booked a table for my wife and I at Barnaby's for a s special treat during our short stay in Padstow. The only problem, I had booked the wrong week, I had booked the week after we were there. This wasn't spotted until we turned up, gave our name and told them we had a booking, the chap looked at me blankly told me I did have a booking but then told me it was for next Friday. The look on my wife's face said it all, our 40 year marriage was coming to an end......But then Harriet came to the rescue. They had a table booked but the couple hadn't arrived, she rang them and they confirmed that they weren't coming and so she let us have the table, amazing, especially when you consider the restaurant only seats 12 to 16 people given current restrictions. We were so happy we had managed to be seated and even more happy when our anticipation was met when our food arrived. We had opted for a selection of small plates, 6 in total, with a couple of sides. Everything was perfect, not always to our taste but that is a personal thing, but beautifully presented with each dish having an amazing combination of flavours and tastes, superb. We also agree with other reports, the crispy potatoes side were to die for, absolutely gorgeous, try them. What could have been a disaster due to my mistake turned into a wonderful experience we would definitely return but before we did I would be checking the booking with my wife...

Had a few days in North Cornwall, eating at restaurants featured in the Good Food Guide. None of those need my recommendation! One which wasn't in the Guide, but certainly does was Barnabys, which is in the same group as Prawn on the Lawn. The style is a cross between Middle Eastern and Tapas. You order a number of small dishes, rather than go through the starter, main, pudding routine. All of the dishes we had were excellent, and beautifully spiced. We had Monkfish tail, Hake Lebanese, Chicken Croquette, and what turned out to be our favourite: Roasted Cauliflower. The service was also excellent, friendly and informative.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We had a delicious lunch at Barnaby’s yesterday. The menu is mainly small plates - including locally-caught fish and shell fish, vegetables grown in the Padstow Kitchen Garden and wonderful bread sourced daily from a bakery in nearby Launceston. Each dish is flavoured to perfection using herbs and spices, many with a Middle Eastern twist. Highlights were: the scallops served in their accompanying shells; roasted cauliflower with Harissa humous; a simple but beautifully-dressed green salad; and a wonderful dish of kalettes (a cross between kale and sprouts). Avoid the prawns skewers - they’re served with a delicious sauce and ground pistachios but are tiny, fiddly to peel and expensive. We concluded our meal with an excellent cup of coffee. We had a friendly and helpful waitress and I enjoyed a quick chat with the two talented chefs who work very hard in the kitchen which is visible to diners. Overall, we loved this restaurant and it’s smart navy and white decor with a golden bee insignia embroidered on the cushions. It was a bit lacking in atmosphere on the day we visited due to a lack of lunchtime customers. This may have been do to with it being a rainy Thursday in late February and my understanding is that it’s very busy in the evenings. I would definitely return for dinner.

On arrival we were greeted and sat quickly, the restaurant is small and you need to be open to the odd chair knock but it all adds to the atmosphere. The couple who sat next to us had been before and assisted our choices from their recommendations, it’s tapas style great small portions but fantastic flavour and taste, we ordered a nice Red wine which was recommended by the waitress who was very knowledgeable and happy to let me taste before taking the order. In all, we had a beautiful evening great food, wine and lovely atmosphere. I would definitely return and if just the two of us again look to book the window seat as you can watch the Padstow hustle from the comfort of a warm and comfy restaurant. She was so right. We had lamb skewers and chicken croquettes plus sourdough bread to start. All were fantastic. We followed with t bone steak and spice potatoes plus cabbage again all excellent. Wine a french red which was superb. Dessert cheese excellent. Thank you chef for a great meal it really was fantastic.

We were a party of four and booked lunch. We were greeted warmly and our waitress proved to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The restaurant is very small but it was not busy at the time of our visit. The fairly complicated menu was carefully explained and we chose sharing dishes, these came in a well timed procession so that we were neither hurried nor left waiting. The middle eastern influence is pronounced but not overpowering. Each member of our party chose two dishes which we all shared, the portions were very small. The scallops were excellent, the chicken light and crisp, the lamb skewers were not particularly good being rather fatty and tough. The bass was very small to share four ways but it was well cooked and delicately seasoned. The roast cauliflower was quite ordinary and the hispi cabbage difficult to divide and rather tasteless. The potatoes were splendid and we ordered an extra portion.. We had three puddings which were attractively presented and interesting. Three glasses of Rose and a small glass of lemonade were our accompanying drinksThis was a food adventure rather than a gourmet experience but it was fun and gave us plenty to talk about. It was certainly expensive .

Came here with our Dalmatian puppy Jasper and were allocated a table in the window, which was ideal. A good ambient atmosphere and service. Food was good too, we had the monkfish tail (excellent), Scallops (superb), Spiced minced pork (good) and finally the lamb skewers (merely ok). The lamb skewers portion was painfully small. Portion sizing is important! Prawn on the Lawn have the portion sizing spot on.All together though, a good evening.

We came to Barnaby's without a reservation on a busy Thursday evening. We were told they were full aside from a small 'shelf' table right next to the kitchen we were welcome to try. It really was a pull down shelf, with just enough space for two plates and wine glasses.... but we had one of the best nights and meals we've ever had in Cornwall! The tiny space added to the charm of the place and our waiter (a young blond male) was friendly, attentive and seamlessly replenished our chosen tapas-style dishes one by one throughout the night. The food was fresh, delicious and creative- particularly the 'popcorn' mussels and lightly fried ricotta courgette flowers. The cocktails coming from the bar also looked fantastic but will have to try these next time. We have since told anyone who will listen to visit too- and give the shelf a chance!

Staying at the Retallack resort near Padstow we got talking to our neighbours. They had been down for the week and eaten at most of the top rated restaurants in the area, they had a few recommendations for us but said that a must visit was Baranby's. We managed to book one of their bar seats, they have two more breakfast bar type arrangements for two people each (the place is tiny so you need to book in advance). But turned up to the restaurant and we were offered a table instead. They run two sittings in the evening and the later bookings (around 8pm) are most popular. The food is a Tapas style, intended for sharing, and we ordered 6 main dishes and two sides. Each of which was delicious and superbly presented! Brilliant and will book in advance next time we are down in Cornwall

They were trying very hard but the flavours didn't gel together that well. It felt like they had read a lot of Ottolenghi cookbooks and were trying to do Ottolenghi - but couldn't. It's also a health hazard having the path to the loo go right past a deep fat fryer. Service was not great, waitress acted as if she was doing us a favour bringing us our food.

I booked two consecutive days after August Bank holiday 2019 for the evening.Even though it was over a year since my last visit, I was greeted like a long lost friend and called by my first name which made me feel like a vip.The menu was varied and catered for every taste, and because I dined over 2 days I was able to try the majority of the small plates. I can say that they were all superbly cooked and would not hesitate to recommend Barnabys to anyone, vegans incuded. The most essential thing is that you book in advance to be assured of a seat, the amount of people turned away on the night was high, because of Barnabys popularity.

Attended for lunch today and was so impressed by the food. It’s lovely to share lots of dishes and I think the waitress was excellent in advising amount needed and I loved the fact all the dishes came at different times adding to the excitement of the whole meal. Small and intimate and excellent wine. Also some of the best deserts I have ever tasted. We had 4 and shared them all. Congrats to all the team for having such a stand out quirky restaurant that delivers in all aspects!

I expected expensive, I’m happy to pay for quality but this place wasn’t quality, everything was swimming in grease, only thing that seemed to have any flavour was the clams but the flavour wasn’t a match for sea food and even they were floating in butter. Also way too many tables for such a small place, might as well have been having dinner with the couple on the next table

We stumbled upon this venue by chance, having read reviews about their sister restaurant, Prawn on the Lawn and the many Stein Eateries. If you appreciate good food and service then this is the place to visit, as all dishes were simply delicious and staff gave detailed explanations about each dish. Whether you are an oyster lover or not you must try the ones at Barnaby’s!#simplygreatfood

So Rick Stein has the monopoly in Padstow and always been a fan but this little restaurant has gone right to the top of my 'favourites' list. Its small and intimate but the dishes are to die for. Its small tapas type dishes that the staff help you with, there are always specials and an extensive wine list. The atmosphere is lovely and cosy and on all occasions we have dined here (3 now) we have been sat close to A list celebs so a little bit of star watching!! This is sister restaurant to the wonderful Prawn on the Lawn so you always knew it was going to be good but it actually blew me away.... always first choice now and being a regular visitor to Padstow, sure to be a regular here too.

We dined here mid-week during a one week stay in Padstow. The food and Service were fantastic! The waitress was so helpful, explaining all about the different dishes and making reccomendations. The food was outstanding and so unique. Highly reccomend the deep fried oysters and the mussell popcorn. But everything we ate was delicious. Can't reccomend this little gem of a place enough!!

Wonderful, intimate restaurant a welcome break from the mobbed bustle of Padstow in Summer. Calm, relaxed and super accommodating. Food that is a taste sensation of every herb and spice your palate could crave with locally produced fresh food of the highest caliber. Dainty plates of heaven served by really welcoming hosts. My type of perfection.

We ate here on a Friday night. Hadn’t booked but were offered the stools at the bar. We could see chef cooking and prepping the food, even had a nice occasional chat with the lady who was waiting the tables. It is a bit cramped but the food is gorgeous and well presented. The roasted cauliflower was our highlight. Soooo tasty.

Tried Barnaby’s after a recommendation and so pleased we did. Beautiful, cosy front dining room of one of the main streets of Padstow. Staff very knowledgable about their food and a helpful guide to spices and sauces was provided too. We opted for lots of small dishes rather than the bigger sharing ones (t-bone, pork and fish) and shared amongst ourselves. Food arrives in no particular order and you just share. Each dish was beautiful: particularly impressive were the vegetarian ones (butternut squash and courgette flowers - gorgeous). Between the hungry 4 of us, including drinks, we spent about £160. So it’s not a cheap meal out, but worth every penny.

We managed to get a last minute booking here for dinner on Saturday night and so glad we did. (After deciding to cancel our reservation at a big name place)The welcome was friendly and the place had a lovely vibe for such a small restaurant.Very informative and professional service, didn’t feel rushed at all and the food came out at a nice pace. The food.... wow. Great flavour blends, simple and executed so well. I’m a big oyster lover and they did not disappoint. Really made the last night of our visit to Padstow. Thankyou

Amazing food served in a boutique style restaurant, excellent service in an intimate setting. We tried to get a table on our first night in Padstow but they were fully booked, we were so glad we tried again and pre booked a table for Saturday evening. After having eaten in several restaurants, this restaurant was by far the best. Although we haven’t tried their sister restaurant yet “prawn on the lawn” that also looks amazing. Yum is all I can say. Mel xx

Very interesting and original food. Most has some type of spicy heat. I loved the roasted cauliflower, my husband hated it. I didn’t like the clams, they were too big, my husband loved them.the lamb skewers we both agreed we’re very good as were the chicken croquettes. Unfortunately the pardon peppers were all VERY hot but the next table were all mild, but that was just unlucky. Nice staff, good service. Tiny little restaurant so need to book

After some research, I booked myself and my husband a table at this restaurant. And, how lucky was that - AMAZING! When we arrived in Padstow, we went to check it out and found a lovely, intimate and bustling restaurant. We checked out the menu and weren’t too sure how it would go as I am vegetarian and he isn’t, which may have been tricky with the ‘sharing’ approach. I need not have worried, it was absolutely fabulous! We ordered a variety of dishes. There was a great mix of meat, fish and vegetable dishes and everything was sooo tasty. I can honestly say amongst the best food I’ve had. The menu would suit a group of friends who wanted to share but it also suited us as a couple. Each plate was small but could be adapted depending on numbers. Other larger sharing platters were also available. The restaurant itself is small with a big atmosphere! To describe it would be doing it an injustice. Everything from the staff, the music was perfect. We finished off the meal with two of the best desserts and left.. reluctantly as I didn’t want the experience to end!

This was by far our best meal when we visited Padstow. It was great to go to somewhere that wasn’t a Rick Stein franchise (albeit the food in his restaurants were excellent). The restaurant is small and cosy, the staff are friendly and the food was excellent. We sat at the shelf table at the back of the restaurant as it was fully booked. But this didn’t impact our experience. The food arrived beautifully presented and was delicious and the team working there were helpful and friendly. Excellent meal!

The Breaks Tolcarne Beach Bar & Kitchenlocation-iconTolcarne BeachBrasserie

We went her for a family meal (birthday). The place is clean and located in a wonderful setting right on the beach at Tolcarne. The food menu is not extensive but that is a good thing as I found out. I ordered a starter and a main. Everything was to be brought at the same time as some of our party were not having starters.. the main arrived 5 minutes before the starter which meant the main was almost cold by the time I finished it. Every one else "sort of" enjoyed their meal but a lot of the food was not consumed I think because the standard for the price was not as good as it should have been. Drinks were also very expensive £4.75 for a Tribute. I think if? I ever go again I will make my order requirements explicitly clear. If they fail again I will ask for my money back.... The Service staff were very good though..
