Went here for a meal prior to a night out. 7 of us enjoyed fabulous food. And great service. The food was divine. Thank you for your service. We will be back soon!

Probably due to some of our party having mussels for starters, my burger was so soggy on the bottom it was not the best. Service and atmosphere good for a luncheon.

A real gem in the South-West! We have visited Barbican Kitchen 3-4 times now, on our visit to see family in Plymouth, from London. We always make a point to have a date night here. It is our most favourite place to eat, even amongst the Michelin-starred restaurants we have been to. We just love the cosy, unstuffy, relaxed atmosphere of this restaurant. The ingredients are always the best quality, seasonal and fresh- this is reflected on the pleasantly ever-changing menu. We love trying different plates and love the recommendations from the staff. The prices for plates are more than fair - they reflect the quality of the cooking, the ingredients and the service. We know that if this were in London, we'd likely pay more than double our bill for the same food! The variety of options are truly exciting. Portion sizes are just perfect, if not generous. There is something for everybody and every 'food-mood' you are in. My partner has thoroughly enjoyed their beef burgers and loves their grilled steak options! I have a personal affinity for the 'catch of the day' and the other fish dishes on offer. I also often find myself dreaming about my next encounter with their sticky toffee pudding... A special mention must be made for the staff that work here (won't name names for privacy reasons). Attentive, not intrusive or pressurising and incredibly welcoming. Always vigilant of when we need a top-up of water! We love how friendly, polite and genuinely informative the staff are here. They go over and beyond to make sure that you are well looked after. They are the real gems of this place along with the exquisite food; just seriously lovely people that you want to see again. Well done, Tanner Brothers! See you soon!

Excellent meals, we chose the 3 course menu that's a special price if ordered before 7.30pm. Great value for money, I would recommend this place.

Really special lunch with family and two children, one 5 and one only 10 months. The food was really excellent and very cheap - £25 for three courses- and the staff were attentive to my needs (dairy allergy) and lovely with the children. I would highly recommend for families.

Fabulous, smart restaurant. We received a very warm welcome as we arrived . The service was exceptional. The menu was varied, with lots to choose from. When our arrived, our food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. We would most definitely return.

Had a fabulous 3 course lunch here today with friends. It was a special value deal as a celebration of 25yrs of Tanner Brothers. The food was delicious, all fresh and presentation really good. Service was excellent, our Portuguese server was friendly yet professional. Great value too..would definitely recommend anyone to take advantage of this deal while it is still on! Well worth it!

Celebrating our special friend's birthday!.. Staff were very attentive to our needs, but our food was not the best & expected far better from this restaurant, our chips were so hard & over cooked, we would prefer to have the pepper sauce in a bowl rather than plastered over the top of our streaks! Food wasn't that hot & felt it had been under a heat lamp! So for £91.90 for 2 just No not great! Very disappointed..

Had been recommended the 3 course evening meal, nice venue and attentive staff. Decided on pork belly and hubby the ribeye! Both could have been better....pork belly wasn't the best and ribeye looked thin and just didn't look quality steak on plate! Average rating expected better!

We had a fantastic evening at the Barbican Kitchen, it has a beautiful ambiance inside and the food was amazing and service was so brilliant and friendly from when you first walked through the door. They are so attentive and knew exactly what everyone in our group was eating without even asking. Food was so good and so great that it was all local. Will definitely be returning to support independent restaurants.

Four of us came out at short notice on a mid-Feb dank evening for a birthday. Generally quiet but enough people around to make the settings for both the drinks in the Refectory and the meals across in the BK feel jolly and affable. We had a really good time stretched well over three hours. The cocktails worked well and the friendly efficient staff in the restaurant together with the first rate food and wines combined for perfect birthday supper. The cocktail prices blur in the memory but the BK part cost us not much over £70 each. No reservations at all. BK remains part of our small handful of favoured and reliable Plymouth restaurants.

Me and my boyfriend went here on Saturday to celebrate his birthday, all of the food was gorgeous and the restaurant had a lovely vibe, our waiter was so lovely and really made the evening for us, they did a birthday desert for my boyfriend too and made the whole evening feel very special. Absolutely delicious food! We had a selection of starters,scallops,pate and short rib they were mouthwatering and an must for try, Star of the night was steak cooked at perfection followed by one of the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever eaten. All the staff were very attentive and polite ,and the atmosphere was very pleasant,we were all delighted with food and service

Visited again 13.01.2024. Firstly we'll done to the professional staff, couple behind us questioning thier bill - they had misread the celebration set menu, well done to the waiter and manageress for staying calm and holding fast - not thier fault customers had misread and demanding discount on restaurants already discounted offer. Our meal was lovely, the balanced taste and textures carefully arranged on our plates where worth waiting for.

Food nice but small portions. Waiting staff friendly and efficient. The thing that got my goat was the 12.5% service charge slapped onto the whole blll automatically just because there were 6 of us, without this being pointed out in advance of payment. Small print on a menu just isn't good enough when everyone is just looking at what to eat, not terms and conditions! We complained after getting home and spotting it and to give them their due, they refunded it. If I want to give a tip I will do so. I dont expect to be charged it as a matter of course. Left a bad after taste to an otherwise pleasant evening.

We ate here on 16/12/2023 Let’s start with welcome , we felt immediately at home and the door was opened for us on arrival .The staff were extremely pleasant and made eye contact . The waitress was very good and humorous. We were there for my wife’s birthday with 2 friends . We all opted for the rib eye steaks medium rare and we each had different sauces . Steaks were incredible , flavoursome and cooked to perfection . They were that good you could have eaten them without sauce . We declined dessert as we were full , but as it was my wife’s birthday they brought out a sorbet which had happy birthday written around it in chocolate sauce . Lovely touch . I never have steak when eating out as I’ve had too many bad ones . Without doubt the best steak I’ve had in Plymouth and the whole table said the same . Thank you so much Barbican kitchen . Celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Barbican Kitchen last night. Delicious meal, really friendly attentive staff, lovely setting with the Christmas lights outside the window. Highly recommend- one of the best places to eat in Plymouth.

Great service. We were fitted in for an early dinner at short notice and didn't feel rushed. Table waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Food was good but not exceptional for the price.

We had a wonderful experience for a pre cinema dinner made even better by the Christmas lights being tested making it magical. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was cooked to perfection. Try the Navy strength Plymouth gin, made on site but don’t have too many 😊 Beautiful surroundings and reasonably priced.

Exquisite meal here last night, which also happened to be my first visit at The Barbican Kitchen. It is on the pricier side, however the quality of the food is amazing and very well presented which makes it worth it. I’d recommend the caramelised onion and goats cheese tart and butternut squash risotto…. both were divine. The truffle and parmesan fries are also a MUST - they’re the best I’ve had! Service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was cosy and inviting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere just that little bit more special.

From start to finish our meal was excellent. Our Waitress (the Portuguese lady) was amazing attentive detail. Spotted it was my brothers birthday and arranged a birthday pudding. She was totally aware if the needs of the table. Food was excellent I had the pork plate which was well presented amd tasted superb. The only criticism was the crab dish was slightly disappointing, not enough crab, we thought it would come in the crab shell!!!

On our second night in Plymouth we decided to book this place. Nothing wrong can be said about this place. Good atmosphere, lovely food, friendly staff and great service. Another great evening was had.

We came on Thursday for my wife's birthday and enjoyed our time together here. The food as expected was fabulous and I must say the staff are excellent and make sure everything goes well.

Beautifully balanced dishes and really precise cooking. I had 3 courses and tried two different wines and everything was a delight.

Best in Plymouth without a doubt

I went to barbican Kitchen for a date night. The food was lovely, but there was no atmosphere in there. There was no music playing and we got seated between two birthday tables which were SO loud I could not hear my partner who was sat opposite me. It has the potential to be so nice in there but they definitely need to do something about the atmosphere, I will not be rushing back.

We had been walking for ages on the cobbles of the Barbican, and finally we spotted an amazing Restaurant entrance. This immediately intrigued us. We went up the stairs and found an astounding establishment. The Staff were full of smiles and so helpful to explain the choices on the menu. To say that the food was good would be underestimating the quality and taste. I'm a pensioner and this was the best meal I ever had in my life! The front of Staff gentleman was always smiling and was a good example of how to communicate and praise the staff, he immediately passed on our comments to the Chef and all colleagues who were on duty. I gave the best tip I could afford, and the biggest I have given EVER! It was truly an amazing night, one of which we still talk about. Well done Barbican kitchen. We will never forget you. x.

It’s always a special treat to eat at The Barbican Kitchen when we visit Plymouth. Last night was no exception. The hake was perfectly cooked and the creme brûlée was absolutely delicious. The service is always wonderful.

Sharing some photos of a memorable meal at the Barbican Kitchen. There was a relaxed informal atmosphere, excellent food and friendly, efficient service. I was pleased to see that the menu has a varied list of vegan choices as well as vegetarian and meat-containing options. Good to see that there is a set menu as well as à la carte options. No need to go hunting for a restaurant, the Barbican is stunning and the Barbican Kitchen is simply superb. Great food, fantastic service in a wonderful building with a cocktail bar upstairs. It doesn't get better than this!

I really wanted to LOVE this place! But i did enjoy but not LOVE. I felt a little underwhelmed. Starter - i had the Bao bun which was nice but not blown away. Bread was delicious. Lack of seasoning on Main courses - Turbot. My husband had the steak which was lovely. Pudding - i had the rice pudding - the strawberries were tasteless, but rice was delicious. 31 May 2023 The Barbican Kitchen is located in the same building as Plymouth Gin Distillery, and has been one of our favourite since we've studied 14 years ago. It's owned by Tanner brothers whom used to have an amazing Michelin star restaurant (sadly closed down) nearby. It was a natural choice for us to dine here on our last night in Plymouth, and it really did not disappoint! I had pressed plum tomato terrine and seared wild sea bass and hubs had chicken liver parfait and slow cooked Westcountry lamb shoulder... all of which the ingredients were so tasty and didn't need much sauce. Tomato were bursting with flavour, sea bass and lamb were really really nicely done.

First courses were amazing. Main course was obviously cooked freshly and took time but the sea bream with crab risotto was very boring and uninspiring and all tasted the same. The coconut rice pudding was awful. No cream to it. Tasted like it had been cooked in coconut water. Bland and shouldn’t have been hot with cold strawberries. Left this completely. I think the two course lunch for £22 looks good value but just hope your main course was better than mine. Normally go to salumi and will not go anywhere else in future. Poor second choice. Go to Salumi instead.

The Barbican Kitchen is always a delightful dining experience and we enjoy our evening every time we visit. The confit duck was delicious and the apple crumble cheesecake was truly wonderful and I can't recommend it enough. The staff are always amazingly attentive, helpful and polite and the service is just seamless.

The food and service here is always excellent. I love that you can get such highly quality, tasty, refined food without the pretentiousness that often comes with it! The staff as always friendly and engaging, nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. I was especially delighted by the rhubarb cheesecake on this visit!
