Dirty and unfriendly. Staff terrible, service slow. Poor menu choices. Fresh lime drink was awful. Did not feel comfortable at all.

Excellent food. Unfortunately the service was just awful. I appreciate it was Sunday brunch and they were very busy. Had to ask to be served after being ignored for a while. Drinks slammed down, food slammed down. No smiles, no conversation whatsoever. Felt like we really weren’t wanted in the restaurant. Which was incredibly embarrassing as I’ve been before I live in the area and was excited to bring a friend from out of town to try. The chef however came to ask a question about our order and was absolutely lovely.

Nice little restaurant with a great atmosphere but very overpriced with medioca food. I had a quesadilla that had almost no queso and more of a tukish tomato paste than salsa. It was a good potion but my food and my friends food was very average in taste. Enjoyed the caipirinhas but spent a fortune on an average tasting lunch.

We booked into Banners for a meal to celebrate my sister finishing the London Marathon. I booked quite a way in advance as we were a relatively big group and had a toddler with us. From booking to the date of the meal, for various reasons, I had to change the time and number of people several times and every time the restaurant were so accommodating and helpful. On the day, we were running late due to getting stuck on transport out of central London. I phoned the restaurant and again, the staff were great and kept our table for us. When we arrived, we were greeted with such a warm welcome and the table was set up for us all - include a highchair for the 2 year old. Our waitress was so friendly and all of our food and drinks came out quickly. There was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and it felt very homely. The food was amazing - everyone loved their meals, great portion sizes and loads of flavour. Everyone was catered for, including my 2 year old nephew who loved his pasta and ice cream. We had such a lovely evening and the staff at Banners made such a difference - they were so patient with all of our chopping and changing and I can't recommend the place enough. We will definitely be back next time we visit London. Thank you!

I have been coming here for over 25 years having in the main their lovely best kippers in the world. When I was in yesterday I asked how they kept up the long term consistency of outstanding food and outstanding staff. Never heard his name before by everyone told me that Tim is the engine that drives everything, a man totally committed to high standards. I even got the pleasurer of shaking his hand. Thank you Tim. I really must say you and everyone else have given me something in my world that I really do treasure, my monthly visit to Banners. Please don't ever change. Absolutely outstanding guys in every way. And thanks Juliet!! as well. See you soon guys! Absolutely worship this place!

This restaurant has come highly recommended. I was not disappointed, I have to say. Totally enjoyed the food, the surroundings and the service within. Definitely need to come back here again. Service was good and so was my jerk chicken. Looking forward to my next visit try the 🍨

I’ve been going back to Banners with various family and friends ever since our first visit, which was shortly after it opened in the early 90s. That makes it about my 30 year anniversary and our visit this weekend was as good as it always has been. Having lived nearby for much of that time, I’ve eaten in Banners - for breakfast, lunch or dinner - around 100 times. Is that a record? The fact is, during all those visits, the food, atmosphere, cleanliness and staff have all been consistently great. For anyone that’s enjoyed travelling and eating in certain parts of the Americas and the Caribbean, there is likely to be a lot to like. There are also little touches - the superb Belgian IPA and excellent bottled beers, the bowls of popcorn to welcome you in, not to mention the table where Bob Dylan sat in 1993 - that frequently make it a special experience. This time, however, I need to thank the two ladies who served us on Saturday - they are simply some of the friendliest and best waitresses ever. Thanks Banners for remaining consistently good for so long and see you soon.

Nice restaurant, decent food, but definitely over priced. Was pretty shocked when the bill came and the cost came to £63. The Vat isn't inclusive of the price on the menu so do keep that in mind and additional 20% on top of the expected 12.5% service charge brought a simple basic breakfast for 3 upto £63. Food was nice, decent but I can definitely think of a few other places with better food and much better value... Kid friendly, so that's a plus.. Not somewhere you causually Waltz into for a spontaneous meal... But OK if you've planned to spend that kind of money!

We came here as it was close to the parking and Alexandra palace. It was such a lucky find, that we ended up coming for breakfast here the second day as well! :) they have an excellent choice of menu for both breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had the halloumi salad, fried calamari, and for breakfast the English breakfast & pancaked with bacon and eggs. All food was amazing, great location, atmosphere and extremely kind and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend you drop by at any time of the day!

The food was barely edible! The chicken wings soft as if boiled, with no taste at all. Then, squid Thai green curry, which was more like an unsalted pea soup, agh. The people working here are just lovely, but we won’t be coming back just for their sake.

Banner’s is a great little restaurant. We went for a couple’s meal and the food was tasty, varied and had plenty of allergen options too. The portion sizes were generous (and very spicy!). The service was a little erratic and disorganised, but the staff were friendly and it was a busy night. Would recommend.

My Mum and I just stopped here for a hot drink. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The decor was unique and comfortable. Our hot drinks were lovely and a reasonable price. I would like to come back and try the food another day.

Visited Banner's for the first time, and the experience was excellent. Had a lovely meal and the atmosphere is lively too - great for families. The beer was a great choice too. The prices are very reasonable so would definitely go back.

We came for brunch on a sunny Sunday, followed by a long walk in the nearby parks. Service was prompt and friendly, menu had an intriguing assortment of brunch and other items (I had the kedgeree special). Endless stream of local traffic, clearly a popular neighborhood spot.

We had high expectations for this restaurant. From the outside it had the look of an authentic Caribbean / rum-shack style establishment. The menu options had a mix of Greek, middle eastern and Caribbean food options. Good selection of cocktails and a very tasty rum punch, very good reds but sadly a weak selection of rums, mainly standard any drinking place rums i.e. Havana’s clubs as opposed to quality Jamaican rums Appleton’s Rare / 8/ 12, Hampdens, Worthy Park or even Bajan Mount Gay etc. Note, we do love our dark and golden rums and kinda expect them as a standard in a Caribbean restaurant. Choice of starters not so good, for a Jamaican Caribbean restaurant, we expected a good selection of more authentic starters than what was offered. Main dishes of Jerk Salmon and Goat roti (one of the best tasted outside of the Caribbean) were absolutely mouth-watering. We found the restaurant had a very friendly, helpful and warm team. The ambience within the restaurant resembled a cool Camden style music bar but not a Caribbean restaurant. In terms of ambience the background music did not sound too authentic, at times country music and pop music was being played. A bit of Bob Marley would have been nice. The themes on the wall not really typical of a Caribbean style, however the posters in the toilets were quite cool. We were not looking for a replica of a well-known Caribbean restaurant in Camden but we did expect more authenticity in a London restaurant. Unfortunately, we found our experience at the restaurant confusing as we thought it was a Caribbean restaurant but did not feel this fully came through via the ambience and the menu.

What a find... Recommended by a friend we ventured north and so happy we did. Transported to a spiritual hub of top notch Soul Food. Excellent service, traditional dishes. So comfortable you want to spend the day and go home smiling. Curry Goat, Akee Saltfish,...

We dropped by this morning for casual lunch and we really had a lovely meal; big portions, good hearty food with friendly and efficient service!! The lamb kebab I had was so yum!!

Came here with friends and was great. Variety of food for vegan and vegetarians and a fantastic specials board. Staff were all friendly and food was great. All the portions were enormous and moderate pricing. They have a drinks menu and music playing all the time it has a lovely atmosphere and not to loud so you cant hear each other. It's quite cosy and I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment! Suitable for any time of day

Cada miembro de nuestro grupo recibió una generosa ayuda de una deliciosa comida caribeña. Banner's reasonably lays claim to being the landmark eatery in Crouch End. Certainly, when I moved to the area, I really enjoyed the eclectic menu and lively local buzz. I tend to pop in there every couple of months or so, but sadly I have begun to admit to myself that perhaps the place is in some decline. Last Thursday popped in for a late lunch. Dealing with our server was a chore, the condiments bottles were messy and one was empty, while the food was ok but without sparkle. All this suggests to me that Banner's may have become a little over-confident of where it stands and what it is there for. Will go again, for sure, but if the management read this: IMHO, it's time to get a grip.

Such a find! Food was amazing, the ethics, attention to detail and service utterly astounding. Such a refreshing change and definitely will return to this little gem!

Thanks to everyone @ Banners Crouch End we had a table of 5 and everything was superb , great food , seriously generous portions and great service , Emma looked after us wonderfully , the last time we went to Banners was before we had children and we now have quite a few , nothing has changed still a fantastic great value family restaurant.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommended.

An amazingly diverse menu for all tastes. My bubble and squeak was world class and tastily supplemented by a meaty Manx kipper.All the party were delighted with their choice and the staff were delightful too. A Crouch End gem!

Dejaron de vender puré de papas, dejaron de vender salsas, especialmente la famosa salsa de cacahuate y no mencionar que apenas están disponibles para entregas. A wonderful, earthy Jamaican style restaurant. It's almost like stepping into the Caribbean the minute you cross the threshold. Sit at the bar or a table and you'll soon feel transported. Stick to the traditional Jamaican fare and you can't go far wrong. Most of it has a bit of a kick to it. If you're mega-adventurous, they even have worms and other insects on the menu. I went for the Jamaican breakfast which was absolutely first class.

I say 'the one and only', but for a while there were two Banner's Restaurants in the N8 / N19 vicinity. It didn't work out for 'Banner's 2', perhaps because it was hard to reproduce the vibe and wonder of Banner's 1 away from the funky corner by the pet shop, Crouch End Central. For as I told my dining companion, Banner's is Crouch End and Crouch End is Banner's.

Mi amigo y yo fuimos a Banners para tomar un brunch. Pedí una comida personalizada: huevos escalfados, aguacate, plátano y haloumi. Todos vinieron en platos separados, ya que no sabían si los quería todos en el mismo plato (?)

Banner está ambientado muy bien, con una sensación desenfadada, acogedora y amigable. Nos recibieron muy bien y nos cuidaron bien durante toda nuestra comida. El menú es ecléctico y divertido, con opciones interesantes y variadas. El único problema que enfrentamos fue que la comida era mala. Mis papas salteadas con chili, cebolla y tocino eran terribles, estaban muy cocinadas y el tocino era francamente trozos de carbón no comestible. Al quejarme del plato, recibí una pequeña cantidad de trozos de tocino extra, pero francamente, para entonces, la comida estaba echada a perder. Es una pena, porque el restaurante y el personal eran divertidos.

Vine aquí para el almuerzo el otro día y disfruté de mi experiencia. Recibió una cálida bienvenida de la camarera que me mostró a mi mesa. Tuve la oferta de almuerzo que incluía un sándwich y una cerveza que tenía la tilapia tirón y estaba delicioso. El ambiente en el restaurante es muy bueno y en general es un lugar excelente.

My parter and I visited Banners restaurant in September, I didn’t write a review before because I sent an email of disgust 2 days after our visit to the restaurant and I still hadn’t heard anything and my partner just asked if I ever got a response and it was this that prompted me to write this review.

Our party of 6 were all really impressed with the food at Banners - huge portions and really tasty flavours. Between us we tried the fish curry, veg lasagne, stuffed roti, jerk chicken and a salmon dish off the specials board. Great reviews all round - the rice and peas in particular were a delicous side! Quirky venue with a lovely atmosphere and quick service. Only downside was the compulsory 12.5% service charge, even when buying a single drink at the bar!

I love this place. The food is always great and it's always exactly what I want and more when the food comes to the table.

Habíamos oído un montón de cosas buenas sobre Banners y había sido significa ir por un tiempo. Reservamos una mesa, ya que era un sábado por la noche y nos pusieron en la parte trasera al lado de la cocina. No creo que debería haber una mesa aquí como la persona frente a las cocinas tiene una terrible ver toda la noche de la zona clara. Estaba muy concurrido, así que difícil relajarse.

He comido en Banners varias veces a lo largo de los últimos años y mi visita más reciente no me decepcionó. El menú es muy variado y hay mucho para elegir, incluso si no estás interesado en comida caribeña o hamburguesas. Tienes un tazón de palomitas para picar mientras espera su comida, pero siempre encontrar el servicio muy rápido, incluso cuando está lleno. Las raciones son realmente enormes y ofrecen una gran relación calidad-precio. Apenas nos tenía espacio para el postre y la tarta con plátano y toffee es uno de los mejores que he probado. Al final te dan un bol pequeño de caramelos con la factura, y aquellos pequeños extras que hacen de este lugar un sitio tan genial. El propietario y el personal son siempre tan encantadora y aunque no vivo cerca ya que hará un esfuerzo por volver aquí de nuevo en el futuro.

Went banners yesterday whilst service was good as usual I have to say was my worse visit yet , the curry goat was lovely until I broke my tooth on a star anise there is a saying whilst using these in cooking count them in then count them out I’m fuming as may need an implant which could cost two grand so thanks for nothing banners would never return

Lunch with family was a huge disappointment. Rude, unhelpful young waitress couldn’t be bothered to help with a high chair. Older waitresses ok. Sourdough bread burnt and inedible, then covered by toppings - I can’t understand why the kitchen allowed this to be served. Other dishes not as good as it used to be. Sadly we won’t be returning.

Este lugar fue recomendado a nosotros y teníamos ganas de ir. Tratando de decidir qué era un reto, pero el que más me impresionó cuando la comida llegó - las porciones son enormes. Tuve el caribe pollo roti, muy sabroso, pero fui incapaz de terminar. Si hay una crítica, el servicio era un poco lento, pero no estropeó una buena noche. El sábado, reservar con antelación porque el lugar estaba lleno.

El servicio es cada vez peor. Sugiero que pida dos bebidas en el comienzo de su cena, ya que nunca verá de nuevo la camarera para pedir otra. La otra noche me intentaron todo para conseguir la atención camareras para pedir otra botella de vino, pero desistimos simplemente no vale la pena el esfuerzo. Cuando nos negamos a pagar el cargo de servicio completo (que no están obligados a) nos preguntó que cuál era el problema con el servicio? A lo que respondió bien qué servicio? La camarera no la cantidad mínima, es decir, toma su pedido y trae su comida. Eso es todo. No volver y pedir todo está bien? Desea algo más? Nada. He dado este lugar y oportunidad de nuevo oportunidad de mejorar y a empeorado. Lo cual es una pena porque la comida es genial! Sólo tienes que ir sabiendo que el servicio es pésimo.

Well what can I say after my last visit I wasn’t sure I wanted to go back but I’m so glad I did , the curry goat tonight was totally amazing gorgeous and my partner had Thai prawn curry with noodles wow spectacular best meal with at at any restaurant in the last year . Well done banners I highly recommend !!!!!

Visited this place around 5 years waiting staff and food was great. Now it’s just the food that’s great they have very pushy waiters who will do anything to try and making you spend more money which is a little bit intimidating at timeS

We didn’t know about the hype there seems to be surrounding this place when we walked past and thought it looked nice. Great food, good service at a reasonable price with interesting decor. Can’t ask for much more.

A renowned restaurant with a link to a world famous musician but if my visit is anything to go by the times they are a changing.

De haber sido regular en Banners cuando abrió y John Peel con Nick Kershaw colgado nuestro y su esposa tocando música super guay ha sido un tiempo desde que he visitado. Llevé a mi hijo adolescente a cenar la semana pasada y estoy feliz de encontrar que a pesar de cambiar la titularidad y el paso de muchos años todavía tiene el mismo ambiente fantástico y sabrosa comida no pretencioso. Me encanta :-)

Hemos estado viniendo a Banners desde que abrió sus puertas y siempre me ha gustado mucho, así que era natural que llevamos a nuestra familia de visita allí. Lo pasamos estupendamente. El ambiente era muy animado, y la comida era deliciosa. Tienen una amplia variedad de platos que tienen una buena relación calidad-precio con grandes porciones. El personal era atento, como siempre amable y profesional. Fue importante para mí que mi familia se divirtieron y no por lo que recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante.

What a great little place. It is often hard to get a table. I return every few month for the great food and great atmosphere and it never fails to disappoint. The food is always amazing and the staff are always happy to help. The curry goat, jerk chicken and the lamb kebabs with freak salad are my favourite! I've heard great things of the breakfast here so my next trip will be a morning one.

Can’t recommend this place highly enough. We had some amazing cocktails - best Mojito I’ve had in a while! - and lovely food (the nachos portion was huge and lots of topping). Used to come in the 90’s when we lived locally and we were delighted that it hasn’t changed hardly at all - still fab!

Vinimos aquí el sábado por la noche. A pesar de que el restaurante estaba lleno, nos aceptan como clientes a pie y estábamos sentados en el bar. Tardamos 15 minutos para nuestra orden para ser llevado, otros 15 minutos para recibir nuestra comida y bebidas. La comida es deliciosa, así como mi uva daiquiri! ! Es una lástima que el hombre del bar (que era encantador y tratando su mejor) no haber ayuda y obviamente estaban abrumados con el trabajo.

I never give bad reviews but I see potential in this place as I work in hospitality myself, was pleasantly surprised when I walked past this today went in looked like a good atmosphere with laid back friendly staff but they took it to far by quite frankly lack of manners the way you would treat a regular as a joke after them coming in 10+ times slamming plates down on the table came to the table got my order wrong then proceeded to say 'gimme that back' no apology then just walked away our food arrived shortly after but that's not the point customer service from SOME not all of the staff was non existent only left a tip because was in a rush and couldn't wait for the change. The jerk chicken tasted old chewy and wasn't jerk chicken (I'm Jamaican). I wouldn't say to avoid it as maybe they had an off day but they definitely shouldn't be serving that quality of food for that price and I won't be returning. Hopefully they get their act together!

I've been here so many times and will continue to come back. The menu is so versatile there's something for everyone, for any meal of the day, and all the meals I've had have been exceptional.For a generalist restaurant; their specialist dishes are fantastic.Couple that with beautiful staff and a cool atmosphere and you're on to a winner.Don't change a thing!

I'm not the most maternal person and knew that this was very much a child-friendly restaurant/bar/cafe before visiting. But having heard nothing but good reviews we decided to give it a try. The children that were there during our visit were on best behaviour. The staff were lovely, the menu offering looked great. I went for the gingerbread pancakes which I must figure out how to make as they were delicious. My bf had a quesadilla which was huge. All the portions going to tables around us looked equally generous. Nice music, decoration, an enjoyable visit.

Visiting my bro and fiancee over the weekend and they took me here saying how good it was and it really was aces! My bro told me the burgers are proper good and going to a cool place like this I wasn't sure I wanted such a standard meal but I caved. When you go somewhere who ask you how you want the burger cooked (medium rare obvs) you know it's going to be legit! And it really was, cooked to perfection and was sooooo good. They said it gets really busy so best to book a table on the weekends but the atmosphere there was great, would love to go back next time I visit and try the jerk chicken with rice & peas

I've been going to Banners for years and the quality has never wavered. For years it has consistently been one of (if not THE) best restaurants in Crouch End. There's always a wide range of interesting specials, the portions are generous and it manages to keep it's warm, laidback vibe, even when it's incredibly busy. It can be quite child-heavy at the weekends (this is Crouch End, after all) and you'll need to book for brunch, but it's worth it.

Excellent service and staff, attentive and prompt and considerate. But let down by the food. Everything seems to jerked, even the Chinese duck and pancakes, which are more Jamaican than Chinese. The pancakes were too thin and insubstantial to hold the rough-cut vegetable fillings, and the duck was chunky rather than shredded. I think the chef totally misunderstands the nature of Chinese duck. My friends had bean-burgers which they pronounced good, but one of them a committed veggie remarked that it was hard to make a bad bean-burger these days. I fear that one day the chef will learn to jerk even bean-burgers and then we we all be doomed. The ambience is good, but if you go there because you believe Bob Dylan once ate there you are easily mis-led.

Been coming here 20 odd years can't believe I never tried the jerk salmon delicious will try the jerk chicken next time . As always the banners team are exceptional especially the two Jo's

We ate well here on a dinner with friends but felt let down by the poor attitude of the manager. On one starter we explained very politely (in response to the usual "was everything OK") to our waiter that a starter needed more of the main ingredient to match the description of the dish (it felt more like a salad with a tiny garnish of the protein) - she effectively said there was nothing she could do. We then asked for the manager but he was on the defensive from the start just claiming that this was a new dish and that was how the chefs had been told to make it - an explanation but in no way an apology. This exchange was repeated at the meal's end when the manager, perhaps unwisely, came over to ask the same, " was everything OK" bland question. He then made matters worse by saying that he had not thought to offer to refund the starter "because you ate it". A shame, the food here was nice and there is a great atmosphere, but I do not now feel inclined to return

Had a great lunch here . We had the awesome jerk chicken sandwich , spicy corn bread and a tasty banana,watermelon smoothie . Great vibe, feels like being in a southern U.S. diner complete with friendly, efficient service . And yes, we sat at the famous Bob Dylan table ! The times may be a changing but Banners is still a great Crouch End institution !

Been a few times and felt i needed to review. The food is always excellent, the beer is good, the cocktails are good, atmosphere is great, and you can sit at Bob Dylans table!

My friend and I went here expressly for fangirly reasons. Bob Dylan (my friend's favourite singer) once ate here in the mid 90's and there is a plaque marking the table that he ate at (which we expressly asked to sit at) and the house & newsagent from "Shaun of the Dead" is about 10 minutes down the road (one of my favourite movies). However, this pub was quite nice and I got a full English breakfast and a pint for lunch and couldn't have been happier. My friend was fully thrilled to be sitting at Bob Dylan's table. All in all, a lovely visit.

£50 got us 1 beer two mains and two starters. Everything was tiny and nothing was fresh. Stamp and go tasted like it soaked in oil for a few days. Partner said soup was good. Mains tasted ok but chicken was certainly roasted separately then topped with sauce. Bob Dylan's former table was so dirty. The whole place is filthy needs a good clean and a redecoration. Step up, jerkmaica has opened up NEXT DOOR. Will never be back.

A lovely jamaican cafe, staff always lovely. Good straight forward service with a smile. Can get really busy, must book for week ends, very much a family venue for locals with kids and buggies in tow. Nice menu good prices. Always return.Thanks to the team.
