Bangkok Canteen in Gloucester

A group of us went on a Saturday and had a great time. Service was good, staff were friendly and the food was excellent.

What a lovely place to go and eat. No loud background music! Food was excellent. The staff were an absolute delight. Will definitely be going there again. So good to see an independent restaurant doing so well. Thank you Bangkok Canteen it was a great evening.

Always greeted with a friendly smile, chat, peaceful music and delicious gluten and dairy free food. Bangkok canteen has treated and fed us like royalty for years. For once you are a guest not a customer. The only problem is the 20 minute drive. Wish we lived next door.

Im lucky to live nearby and eat here regularly, its great they also offer takeaway, in my opinion its absolutely fantastic food, a family run restaurant, ethically sourced food, always a warm Welcome. A plus all the food is gluten free (you genuinely wouldnt know). Its an absolute Gem

Made a special journey here and it was shut, despite Google saying it was open for business!! Very disappointed is an understatement.

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food is superb and the service excellent. Everything is gluten free and locally sourced. A large part of the menu is also vegetarian and / or vegan. If you like Thai food, you will love Bangkok Canteen.

We went with friends who suggested this restaurant. Delighted by their choice. All 5 of our starters and main courses were delicious. Service friendly and efficient. All of us were delighted. Good beer and ok wine list, some better choices in the latter would add stardust to this lovely restaurant.

Absolutely delicious food and great service.

Food was delicious and service great, but the portions are small and a bit overpriced. £7.99 for Tom yum - I expected a bowl, but was disappointed with what seemed like less than a cup. It was very flavorful and delicious, though - as was everything we ordered. I'd visit again, just be aware you'll be spending a pretty pence. I'm an avid reviewer, a chef and restaurant owner myself and after reading the responses to negative reviews I hesitated to share my honest opinion as it seems anyone who leaves anything negative gets a scathing response instead of any type of resolution or apology. Disappointing to read after we had a good experience.

Superb, allergy intolerances well catered for, staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

Lovely staff and great to see a restaurant with an emphasis on local produce. Sadly the squid starter was very chewy and greasy. Pad Thai was authentic and filled me up. Desert a Thai baked custard was out of this world.

It's quite expensive, but worth treating yourself here - I had a delicious tamarind aubergine main and an AMAZING dessert involving coconut and taro soaked rice (kind of like the lovechild of rice pudding and dumplings). The lady who served was was very friendly, helpful, and quick, and although there was a large group also in the restaurant we didn't feel we had to wait for long.

Overrated! For starters: Tom Yum soups that me and my wife had was saturated in the taste of lemon grass. No creaminess and could not taste any other flavour. Roughly £6 each. For mains: I had a Massaman curry with a 14 day salt cured beef. The only good thing about it was the sauce which was flavoursome. The beef might as well been bought off a super market shelf and be cooked just as tender. I had rice on the side with it (as you do with a curry). It still did not fill me up. The Massaman curry on its own without rice cost nearly £20. My wife ordered Pad Thai. She was dissapointed with it, she says my Pad Thai I cook at home tastes better. Conclusion without dessert: I have been to many Thai restaurants before around England. Most of them are cheaper and always good quality, just like the Benjarong in Gloucester. But dont bother with Bankok Canteen, unless they make changes to there recipes and improve the dining area, rather than looking like a shack. The place is well overrated.

Amazing food! great variety on the menu, loads of options for veggies or dietary restrictions. Everything was delicious and fresh, with a lovely friendly atmosphere, definitely going again.

Very upset and tearful after having a conversation with the owner at the restaurant. As a pregnant woman who is coeliac I feel I have the right and responsibility to ask questions around the food being gluten free and if it’s safe in pregnancy. The lady was saying I was being disrespectful by asking questions as I should just know. She also said I should speak to my doctor if I’m not sure about my diet in pregnancy. But then I tried to clarify kindly that all I wanted to know is if their eggs were pasteurised for example, and then she admitted it’s not. I feel customers anxiety should be handled with so much more care and compassion. As you don’t know what they have been through, and they have their reasons for asking. I haven’t eaten out anywhere for over 7 months in the fear of cross contamination and I was actually excited to hear this place was 100% gluten free. But now I’m feeling worse than ever!! I’m just feeling so sad and upset about the way I was spoken to. I hope they can learn from this and understand how they can negatively affect customers.

As a family with gluten intolerance it was a treat not to have to scrutinise the menu. The food was very tasty and the service was excellent. Its quite a small place, so we were lucky to get a table, but the size of the place added to the charm.

Went for lunch in a group of 7 adults and 3 babies. The service and food was excellent.

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. We pre-ordered a takeaway two days before and everything was waiting for us at the allocated pick up time. Piping hot and beyond delicious. As vegans their choices are an absolute breath of fresh air and I ordered everything off the menu. The whole family loved the food and the staff were incredibly friendly when we collected. Will definitely go back next time we visit Gloucester and would highly recommend to everyone to try if in the area.

Found this restaurant whilst exploring Gloucester as it's very near the cathedral. Welcomed warmly and very efficient service from the minute we sat down. Plenty of choice on the menu and you could see through to the kitchen where our food was being cooked. All arrived hot and obviously from fresh ingredients. I had a fantastic prawn pad thai. Hubby had duck in tamarind sauce. And it was all gluten-free- which is easier on the stomach. If we were local we would eat here regularly.

After shopping and a visit to the cathedral we decided to stop and eat Asian food. I had chicken wings, ribs and pad Thai. We all ordered something different. All of the food was delicious and everyone really enjoyed it. The food was quality, fresh and beautifully presented.It is a lovely, friendly and personable restaurant. Can't wait to go back!

Very welcoming. Food was hot & delicious. Not too spicy. Service prompt but not intrusive. Nice ambiance & decor. Toilets clean & tidy. All food is locally sourced & they’re very pro vegetarian/ allergy friendly. Top restaurant.Car park just a few yards away free from 6 pm. Can even park outside.

Visited for the first time with my fiancée as we were attracted by the range of vegetarian and vegan food on offer. It was absolutely delicious, and such a nice restaurant to be in. Excellent red curry, and the tempura veg is fresh and satisfying. We even had a dessert with delicious vegan vanilla ice cream. I love the ethos of the restaurant too, with a solid focus on high quality local produce. A real gem in Gloucester.

Been wanting to try this restaurant since I heard of it at the start of the pandemic. Finally got there for our wedding anniversary. It was really busy, with all tables full, which is always a good sign. Certainly wasn't disappointed, the chicken larb was spot on, as was the sea bass (crispy skin) and green vegetable curry. The other three of us also enjoyed their dishes, so will definitely be back. Would be even better if the bottles of lager were bigger or the Singha on draught

We've had takeaway meals from this restaurant during the last lockdown and all of it was really tasty. We have eaten in the restaurant before a number of times and the takewaway food was just as tasty. it is fantastic that is it gluten free so my family who are badly intollerant of gluten, know that they can eat anything on the menu and be safe. It is really good quality food, locally sourced and therefore priced accordingly and cooked with care. We always get a friendly welcome from the staff whether coming in to collect a takeaway or to eat in. We will be back again soon!

I have been here twice now with friends, I am not GF myself but it's great to see of my coeliac friends catered for unlike many places. I am not a huge thai lover either but I will praise how the staff were able to cater for my perhaps odd and unusual meal customizations. (steak with tamarind service really does work well!)

Must be one of the best restaurants in Gloucester. The food is all expertly prepared, from a very generous sweet and sour battered chicken to a more unusual Gloucester Old Spot pork curry. Starters are also interesting, from a lovely and fresh chicken satay, to a tender spare ribs. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back for more soon.

Found this restaurant on a stroll through Gloucester near where our daughter has just moved into a shared house a week before dining here. It's a few mins walk from the cathedral, right opposite Shire Hall An amazing menu that is completely gluten-free and has an excellent selection of vegan/vegetarian dishes too. There's usually a specials board, however on our visit they were unable to provide these due to "supply issues". Even so the menu is amazing. The restaurant has a board expiring where all their food is sourced - all within a close proximity to Gloucester. Service was fantastic, all food cooked fresh to order and extremely tasty We had several starters -veg tempura, tempura squid, beef ribs, chicken wings and fishcakes Mains were sweet and sour tofu, prawn pad Thai and slow roast beef curry We all tried one pud between us: sticky rice taro(One of the ladies on the table next to us I heard tell the front of house staff that she's coeliac and she was so excited to be able to choose anything on the menu and not worry about asking for gluten free choice) Highly recommend, will definitely be visiting again

We visited Bangkok canteen whilst on honeymoon and they went out of their way to make us feel special with a bottle of bubbles waiting for us!The food was incredible. I am a coeliac and it is rare I can eat everything on the menu so this was a real treat. All food was delicious and definitely worth a visit!

Good locally sourced food. Nice atmosphere and lovely staff. It's nice to see most of the food is Gluten Free or Dairy Free and they are trying to reduce food miles and waste. Possibly a bit more expensive than I thought it would be, but that's the price we have to pay for quality.

Bangkok Canteen was recommended by my sister-in-law who lives in Gloucester. We decided that we'd like a takeaway meal and they were happy to accommodate us with this. (although when I picked up I liked the restaurant décor and ambience, so may well eat in next time) The food was attractively presented in cardboard biodegradable bowls and we found all of the dishes delicious with the right amount of spice for us. The takeaway was for four so we had a range of dishes to try. The Old Spot Penang was especially popular! It's a bit of a drive to get there, but worth the the trip and will be back again.

Lovely options of dairy free food, good customer service

We passed through and we were craving Asian food. Couldn’t have been more happier to stumble across this small restaurant. The restaurant itself was charming and had a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent. I would recommend the Tom Yum soup. The prices are on the expensive side, but it’s definitely worth it. We ended up coming back on another occasion passing through Gloucester.

Was unsure what to expect as we don't live in Gloucester and booked before travelling there for a wedding. Turned out to be a great choice. Great food sourced locally, very friendly service. Went on a Tuesday evening and the place was full. Not surprised.

We have lived in Gloucester for a number of years but we have never been here.Well it certainly lives up to all the positive reviews. We had a lovely meal and the atmosphere was really chilled but the service was excellent.Well done! We will be recommending it to friends and we will be back

Great place...The pork ribs are exceptional

First time we tried this Tai restaurant for a takeaway. It certainly didnt disappoint. Good service, excellent presentation and more importantly for me was that all the menu was gluten free. It was a real treat choosing from the whole menu and not being limited to a few dishes which is the norm for other restaurants. Hats off to Bangkok Canteen. Definitely will be a ‘go to’ place from now on

Had about as perfect a meal last night at the Bangkok Canteen. We were welcomed warmly, served promptly and were given the most delicious meal. Bonus was that our coeliac daughter could eat whatever she wanted without having to 102 questions about cross contamination as the place is completely glute-free. Go there...it's brilliant!

We were having a holiday in the Cotswolds and it being midweek we knew options for dinner in the villages might be difficult so we headed into Gloucester. We chose Bangkok Canteen based on TA reviews and they were not wrong. It’s a grand little place - nicely laid out and with a lovely atmosphere. The ethos of the cooking and provenance of the food is obvious and genuine and results in fantastic food. The longhorn beef massaman curry was the best I’ve ever had! Exceptionally friendly and efficient service. Everything was fantastic.

We booked this place in advance of our visit to Cotswolds. This restaurant is a nice little place on a high street with polite and friendly staff. The food was very tasty and fresh and the service was pleasant. We enjoyed everything we ordered off the menu.

We visited as a family group - 6 of us, meat eating grandparents, 1 veggie and 3 vegans. We all had an amazing dinner. The food was delicious, everything we ordered was perfect. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We really liked the big open front to the restaurant (it was a hot evening when we visited so it was all opened up). Felt perfectly covid-safe too. Highly recommend this Gloucester gem.

Great place this - properly authentic Thai food in a cosy setting. Food delicious, service great - the waitress was very busy even though it's small as she made sure tables were always clear and drinks were full, definitely earned her wages! Have been to Thailand and this place is like being back there.

Amazing food and Amazing service. Fully Gluten Free, every dish is an absolute delight and it is so reassuring to not have to worry about cross contamination! From birthdays to anniversaries, for me and my partner this is a go to for any celebration or even just a weekend takeaway. Pictures are pre-covid but they currently offer takeaway and ordering via phone as well as online. Treat yourself....you won't be disappointed!

Really lovely staff; friendly and kind. One lady helped me carry my takeaway back to my car, it was a very large order because everything on the menu sounded delicious. Once I got the takeaway home to my family and tucked in, I realised it had surpassed my expectations! Made a lovely lockdown evening. I couldn’t recommend this enough!

I am a coeliac and travelled from The Wye Valley to visit this Thai restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. Thai food where I could eat anything on the menu, but eventually decided on the veg tempura and the sea bass curry. It was absolutely delicious with impeccable customer service. Family visit to celebrate a Birthday. Booking via the internet was easy and communication was excellent. Staff on the day polite and helpful.Lots to choose from, all tasted fresh and full of flavour. I had prawns to start and a fish dish for mains..... loved it. Can't wait to go again.

One of the best Thai places in the UK. Yes it is pricey but dishes are of reasonable size and very flavoursome. Clientele was also good. Managed by 2 and excellent service

First time at Bangkok canteen. We arrived late due to traffic and the staff were wonderfully polite about it. We all had different starters and mains and ordered all of the sides on the menu. Oh my goodness the food is so delicious and tasteful and each dish was so full of flavour that had your taste buds tingling with delight. Its all fresh local sourced food and has a massive gluten free and vegan menu. We shall be back again soon. Thank you for your wonderful service.

Cosy, warm atmosphere with great tasty food. A restaurant of choice for sure and appears to be very popular as tables are never empty for long. Good portion sizes and great value for money. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. A must to add to your list of places to dine.

If anyone likes Thai food the you can’t visit Gloucester without visiting the Bangkok Canteen. It is truly gorgeous. In fact plan a visit just to go there.
