Banana Wharf in Southampton

We came in on a Sunday at around 5 pm. Had not booked. But got a table for 4 no problems. Friendly service and food tasted great. 2 adults and 2 children 10&11. All enjoyed it.

A really lovely place. We originally went to Maritimo lounge around the corner, but as we were ignored by most of the staff there until I asked someone to help us and then there was a ridiculously long wait for food, we walked out. (Don't bother going there) We walked around the corner and found 'Banana Wharf', as soon as we entered, we were greeted with a smile, seated quickly and our server introduced themselves. A small but perfect menu, our waiter was new and still learning but very professional, I had a question, she quickly found the answer. (I can't remember her name) The view is nice over the harbour. The food was perfect, the 'corporal jones' sausages are a must. A very clean and modern décor, toilets were fresh and well maintained. We will be back when we were next down.

Came with another reviewer on here on Saturday evening and it is obvious why this restaurant gets busy very quickly and remains that way all night. Service was prompt and courteous, and food served in a timely fashion. We were in a group of 20, all of which had pre-ordered to give the kitchen chance of serving us all at the same time, which they did! Fabulous choice of very generously sized portions. Everyone enjoyed the flavorsome dishes, the truffle burgers were as good as you can get. The pizza and truffle fries we had as starters, equally as nice. Everywhere was clean and well maintained and although busy did not feel crowded. Just a shame that we live so far away... but would certainly go again!

Its was my Daughter 18th birthday, we came week ago to book table for 20, all set up and booked , manager so so helpful, I can not express how we impressed with the food and drink and the service from the staff such as Marta and Ksiana and others , we loved it xx 10 of 10 , pizza was very delicious, Linguini seafood was amazing then Truffle blue cheese burgers was fab 👌 and don't forget the Truffle chips was yummy. Note: the meal was large so , if someone hungry, you will be satisfied more than enough unlike some Italian food get samples instead ...our friends and family came from London to celebrate with us in Banana Wharf restaurant, they came out happy customer 😋 ..

Arrived yesterday wanting a table for 2 at 6:45pm. The restaurant was not busy in the slightest and there was almost 20 tables free. The lady when we arrived totally ignored us and another lady came over to say they were fully booked? She then said we could have a table for 40 mins which I said was fine as we had another reservation to get to she then said no and said she can’t do it as they are full. I would not return or recommend.

Good food, good atmosphere, not very crowded

Had fantastic New Year's Eve celebrations here. The food is lovely here - this was my second time of visiting - (no Rapeseed Oil thank goodness), the cocktails are brilliant, the service is always excellent 👌 and the atmosphere spot on. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience at a beautiful location and I shall be visiting again.

I enjoyed my meal, the fajitas, however my partner did not enjoy us. Service is a little bit slow but nothing major, atmosphere is nice. Seems like the place for a group gathering rather than an intimate date. Lovely location.

Been in here 3 times. First two times, service was shocking - slow, waitresses were arguing audibly amongst themselves, food came out cold, and generally treated like we were in the way and an inconvenience. Today I popped in for a quick breakfast before an appointment thinking I’d give it one more try, stood waiting to be seated and eventually a waitress came over and asked if she could help. Said I’d like a table, to which she looked at me very confused and said “we’re closed”. I looked around at the other people sat inside and she followed up with “this is a private event, we’re closed today.” No sign outside or on the door to indicate this might be the case, apparently I was just supposed to know. Won’t be coming back for another chance.

Much as I appreciate the clear signage of the few gluten free and vegan options on their menu this is not a good restaurant if you have dietary requirements. The menu does offer a gluten free or vegan base on the pizzas but no one could answer my questions on if the sauces and toppings were suitable for any of the pizza combinations or if there would have to be other swaps to make them suitable. I wouldn't expect them to know off the top of their head but the server wasn't interested in finding out. So I had the steak, which was fine, but the server did try and tell me that it was cooked with butter. Butter is dairy not gluten. I would expect a restaurant worker to know the difference as a bare minimum.

Had a lovely time here. The staff were truly excellent in the restaurant. The food we ordered was also very nice.

Amaazing food! Sunday lunch was delicious, great big portion. The whole experience from start to finish was amazing, great hostess Marta made our birthday lunch even more special.

After hearing such great things about this place i decided to visit one day and was nothing short of disappointed. Practically empty with loud music that didn't bother me however, the i cant be bothered to serve this customer attitude of the staff did. Dispite gaining eye contact several times the bar staff was too busy talking about non business issues with other staff and re arranging the bottles and glasses behind the bar. Once they realised i wasn't just going to give up and leave they begrudgingly decided to serve me what turned out to be an overpriced warm beer. There was no welcoming atmosphere so i decided to eat elsewhere. Will not return or recommend.

Decoration is amazing, even when is winter time, is a space can make you feel like home. Amazing views, perfect lights, colors.Food is very well presented, taste so good and a great selection of drinks, specially the wines.

Large variety of food, very pricey for what it is. Food is good but nothing exceptional. I wouldn’t rush back here for the food but the outside seating area looking over ocean village is a very nice spot for a drink.

We had the misfortune of coming here after a meal out with all of our family. We were served by a ginger haired lady who was possibly the rudest person I’ve ever come across in hospitality. She got one of the group’s drink orders wrong and when the gentleman asked her to change it to what he asked for, she quite literally huffed in to his face. He’s a very laid back person but I’m not sure he could actually believe she had the cheek to make a fuss out of the fact she couldn’t do her job properly. He asked her what the attitude was about and she snapped back asking what his attitude was about (maybe just get the drink order right next time) - she then proceeded to have a gossip with the rest of the staff about it in view of our table. We were a group of 10 and all drank up and moved on and certainly will never return - What a miserable and rude lady.

Took advantage of some lovely weather to sit outside and have a leisurely late lunch. Staff were a bit pushed with a lot of football fans, but coped well. Food was very good, atmosphere friendly. Can't complain.

A great experience to spend our anniversary. Great choice of food and excellent service.

Good food but too long a wait for drinks

We sat at a table outside this morning, waiting for somebody to come and take our order. We waved at a waitress. She looked at me and went inside. That's it. We waited 30 minutes and nobody came. They kept on serving other tables. Eventually we moved on with our lives and had our coffee somewhere else.

Oh the ramen was fantastic!!! All our food was great, service and staff brilliant. I really want to go back for more

Hot Saturday afternoon in the sun with great friends..

Absolutely loved Banana Wharf, the staff were really friendly, dogs welcome and food was great. But it isn't fair to add a discretionary service charge, it is really unfair to expect the customer to ask to have it removed

Absolutely apalling. The manager claimed they were full, ever though multiple tables remained open throughout the night. We waited 1.5 hours for our food, similar to other tables in the restaurant. The food was lackluster, especially since staff couldn't follow simple instructions to omit a single ingredient. When we complained, the manager gave us attitude for choosing to stay. A global event was blamed for the restaurant being obviously understaffed in the kitchen and the manager's poor planning. If I could give them no stars, I would. We will have to see if they last a year

One of the worst places in Southampton for ordering a drink of an evening. Bar staff aren’t trained to any sort of standard so you’ll end up wasting your night waiting to be served. Better off in one of the other establishments along the harbour.

Food was e celle t and heartily recommend the spicy macaroni cheese. Drinks were plentiful in choice but expensive at £11.50 per glass of pinot grigio!!! Service unfortunately let the place down and although the restaursnt/bar was almost empty it still took far too long to bring even tap water to the table.

All the food was great and the waitress was very attentive. She chased our drinks without us asking when she realised that they had not arrived.

Amazing place you must come here

Would give it a zero if I could to be honest… Our food wasn’t great and the service was slow and it was very off putting to have staff smoking by the door we were sat at. I did what I thought was the right thing and fed it back only to have a rude response from Marta, accusing me of lying and asking whether I perhaps was confused and visited another restaurant? I know where I drove to and dined thanks. I did respond with my disappointment and asked for her comments re the food however she’s now blanked me.

Nice and friendly and good food too

First time in a banana wharf venue for approx 2 yrs, Super comfortable bar area, it's bright and colourful and the staff were friendly. Went for after work drinks. Didn't eat but looked at the menu, options were interesting, however at a quick glance it appears not many options have changed from 2 years ago but the pricing has absolutely rocketed. Granted we are in a countrywide financially difficult time & you are always going to pay a little extra due to the location and scenery of a marina setting but it really did surprise me to see the humble portion of halloumi fries increase from £5.95 2 years ago to a whopping £11.

Love the atmosphere and the staff

Staff were as attentive and approachable. Food is terrific and suitable for a bite by the water. Had a fantastic time with my partner and mother in law. The venue was pretty busy and loud at times which I didn't mind but something to bear in mind for some.

Ordered my stake “medium rare” but got it well-done instead.. The wine from NZ we had was very good

Worst coffee we've ever had, burnt and bitter

Bit expensive for average food. £7.50 for 1 scope of sorbet will stay with me forever - that was it, 1 scope... Rather disappointed to be honest

Right on the water's edge and lovely ambience

Great place for a breakfast by the water on a sunny day. Waitress service now not self service but just as good. Car park nearby pay machine near the entrance. . Update 29 7 23 just as I remember good food ,good service , great atmosphere in the evening.

Went to the one at Ocean Village this afternoon for lunch. Arrived early so had some drinks at the bar. We were told lunch starts at 12noon. Got a table exactly at 12pm. Ordered our food and drinks at 12.05pm but waited 40 minutes for food and when asked we were told they are coming. Other customers who came in after us had their meals quite quickly. At 12.45pm we finally got one of the food order thought the second would follow but didn’t so I started whilst my friend had to wait for hers. My food was luke warm but was very hungry so ate it. Chicken was very dry and no sauce. Should have come with caramelised pineapple but didn’t. Rice was hard. Plate was wobbly. Wasn’t given a steak knife to cut chicken which was served on the bone. Only ate a little bit. My friend didn’t finish hers either because it was cold and not tasty at all. No one asked if food was ok or not. Happily gave us a bill no word about the fact that we hardly touched our food! Paid and went. Very surprised at how no one even noticed that we waited nearly an hour for our food bearing in mind we were one of their lunch customers. Unbelievable service! Horrible food. Won’t be going there again! What a shame…

Good quality pizza and the seasoned chips were also nice. On the expensive side. The coffee ☕️ was not too bad was a bit cold.

Average. Caters to the yacht crowd and the people that can afford to live in Ocean Village. Beer selection is average, spirits selection is limited to the mainstream. It's alright, but there's no outstanding factor, it's just a bar by the Marina.

First-class environment, average food. It would be more ideal if you have more seafood🦞

The lowest restaurant experience in Southampton. My friend and I tried to eat at this venue today lunch time, middle week, pretty quite, not more than 15 people sat at the tables, nothing can go wrong, right? Not really! We asked for fish and chips but the waitress said it wasn’t available, although the client who arrived after us had it (apparently he pre-ordered the dish the day before). Then we asked for two halloumi burgers, we waited half an hour before I playfully asked the waitress if they forgot our order but she said they didn’t and she continued explaining that making a burger is a long job, the halloumi comes in a big block and they have to slice before frying it. I’d rather appreciate a bit of honesty, what’s wrong in saying I’m sorry, we messed up with your order? Anyway we decided to wait. In the next 20 minutes the food didn’t arrived so we left. The waitress in charge as restaurant manager was incompetent, bad mannered and not able to communicate with clients. Do choose a different job!

It was my first time going to this place, I was very excited and happy that I have invited a friend to join me, but for our surprise, we have received very poor customer service, they have prioritize people that have arrived after us. They did not communicate with us about the fact that we were wating for 45 minutes for a food that NEVER ARRIVED. It's such a shame, but it doesn't matter how good a place might seems to be, if they do not treat you with respect it is not a nice place to be.

Very pleasant terrace, protected from the wind. Large portions and very delicious food. The off-menu mussels are highly recommended. They also have a children's menu.

Food was ok, we presumed it was on the pass for a period of time as it was lukewarm. Food was slightly salty and the ribs and wing combo were average, just some sauce added on top.

Greatest experience we have had out. Great food. Helpful in boxing up food when we needed to leave for our daughters medical needs. Staff very friendly, helpful and accommodating to our disabled daughters needs and our 10 month old twins. Staff even kept a little secret that our bill had already been paid until the end of our visit by the kindest couple we didn't get the chance to meet, that had only stopped in for a coffee. A huge thanks to the couple for the anonymous act of kindness and to the staff for making this a visit we shall likely always remember.

I was not going to leave a review, but I decided to. I had fish and chips with peas, and the peas were salty mush. They did not have hp or brown sauce, which I didn't mind. When I started to eat the I was disappointed as it was all batter with hardly any fish. Overall, I dont mind paying top prices, but not when I am served with prepared fast food and then saw a 10% service charge.

Couldn't fault anything. Full English breakfast was great, staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant was clean and tidy. Maybe a little pricey but what do you expect with that amazing location!

Good service and restaurant experience wise, but the ingredients used are remarkably low quality. The carbonara uses visibly cheap (and cheap tasting) spaghetti, and the garlic bread is the same as the one in many supermarkets, just with added cheese. Usually not an obvious thing, but it was consistent across the food I ordered/ate, which was odd given the price point and local area food quality. To add, the prices were not proportional to the food quality. Food came quickly, together for a large table, and hot. Excellent for allergies and awareness of such.

Went in and had a meal today, it was okay waitress got my order wrong let that slide, staff were moaning to eachother and head chef ran in and complained about pay not very professional all round. Food was a bit too pricey for what we got.

Really noisy but good food and service.

When we arrived, there were crumbs all over both seats and we were informed what time they would need the table back by; the whole time we were there our experience felt very rushed. The staff kept coming over and asking us if we would like the bill as soon as we finished eating. Lots of staff also congregated around the till area, chatting and looking bored. The food however, was really lovely and was big portions, slightly over priced but this is because it’s in the nicest area of the city. One of our servers (short, international lady with mousey hair) was a delight and gave us hope that there was atleast one member of staff that was friendly and engaging! Would recommend to come on an off peak period (mid afternoon on a weekday) otherwise you will not receive the service you expect when you are paying the prices that they ask for.

It would have been 5 but it was a shame lots of staff congregated around a till and had a chat most the time we were there. Looked unprofessional! The music was also too loud and we couldn’t hear others at our table speak. The food was devine just a shame about the atmosphere.

Really nice atmosphere, but the food was a bit of a letdown. Asked for the king prawn starter (£12), and was served 5 battered prawns - obviously previously frozen. Along with a small dipping plate of cheap sweet chilli sauce you can buy from Tesco down the road. Next, the pizza (£16) was just a bit... basic. Just a bit burnt, and didn't really taste much of anything.
