My husband and I have regularly visited Ballydougan for lunch for years and we absolutely love it! Food is fab, atmosphere is so homely and staff are so friendly and helpful. There are plenty of options to cater for my gluten free diet but I can’t rate the afternoon tea high enough!!! Couldn’t get a better one anywhere!! And a good price too. Our most recent visit was yesterday for my birthday with my husband and our 2 year old daughter. Staff are always so kind to her and she loves going to Ballydougan too. Felt very safe visiting regarding Covid - all regulations adhered to very well! We 100% recommend this place!!!

Had a birthday lunch with a special friend today. I have eaten quite a few times here. Today after a very poor nearly warm lunch, the chips could not be eaten. At no time were we asked if lunch was OK. Infact I got tired waiting on my dressing and could not attract a waitress. On paying I was asked if all was fine, and was offered a packet of mince pies. What an insult. All in all a very poor experience. We shall not be going back.

I recently visited Ballydougan pottery, that was always a favourite place of mine to visit, and was extremely disappointed. We were greeted by a less than pleasant member of staff and handed a menu. The menu was so reduced in content, it was pathetic. I decided to go for the soup and sandwich combo, that was extortionatly charged at over £11. You wouldn't even pay that price in a hotel. Virtually ever restaurant would charge between £6.99 and £8 for the same. But my disappointment did not end there. When the food arrived at table, soup was quite nice BUT the cheese and ham sandwich!!!! It was awful, firstly the sandwich was made of thick white bread that was stale, obviously the bread had sat out all day, and the filling was the most miserable small amount that could have been given. A cheap solitary slice of ham, a small amount of cheese and a spoon of relish. This for over £11. Along with this soup and sandwich combo for myself, my wife had a toastie, we both had apple pie for dessert and 1 coffee and 1 tea and the total bill cost us over £37.00. We could of had a main meal and dessert and drink in a 4 star hotel for the same price. A complete greedy rip off. Non of this was helped by the continual battle we had at our table with countless wasps coming in through every door and window open in the restaurant. The two members of staff we unfortunately had to encounter were the most miserable unpleasant people you could meet. There is no point in management disputing any of these facts or trying to say they only use the best ingredients. A load of rubbish. If that was your best, it was simply no where near good enough. It will be a long time before we ever consider returning , if ever, to this once favourite destination.

Visited this fabulous restaurant with recommendations from a friend and it lived upto all she said and more. Warm welcome from a pleasant waitress seated at a well spaced table up pretty steep stairs even with no booking on a bank Holiday. The restaurant wasn't long fill up and I can see why. Delicious food and coffee. While relaxing I was able to look down over the main room and see all goings on. Take my hat off to these 3 girls waitressing they earned every penny of there wages and all with a smile on there face. Well done to ballydougan pottery

Rang to book afternoon tea for a family birthday, and was asked to ring back and pay a deposit as the man who took the booking didn’t know how to take a deposit however I was assured the booking was made. Rang back to pay the deposit and they told me they had no record of the booking and they couldn’t offer me an alternative booking on the same day for afternoon tea as they were fully booked. They didn’t even acknowledge that their own staff member couldn't take payment for a booking and a result we were penalised, the response was just that they were fully booked. Disgraceful customer service and they have now lost a customer.

My wife and I visited for Afternoon tea and were seated by a very polite lady, we then received a cup of coffee for myself and a cup of tea for my wife, I thought it was strange we weren't left with a pot of either especially considering what we paid for it, the food was then brought out and I must say it was lovely, cannot fault the quality, after finishing we sat there for around 15-20 minutes hoping someone might notice we had finished our solitary cup of tea/coffee and offer us a refill but not one waitress approached our table again, for a total of £36 I might have thought a second cup might have been available but apparently not, so despite the food being of good quality I would not return here again

I visited recently as part of a larger group and found one member of staff to be quite rude and unhelpful. Perhaps it was the Christmas pressure, but as she was obviously a more senior member of staff, I would have expected a more courteous and helpful manner. Our orders were brought to the table and when we pointed out that they were incorrect, she was neither apologetic or pleasant. She was so abrupt with one member of our party that we were all quite taken aback. I doubt if any of our group will ever return and I think the final straw came when she tried to charge our table twice.

We spent a lovely afternoon at Ballydougan Pottery, where we had booked the Christmas afternoon tea. The food was lovely and the mini treats where beautifully displayed. You receive 4 mini sandwiches per Person, a scone with Jam & cream and 4 mini sweet treats: mini brownie, macaroon, mince pie & cheesecake treat. A box is offered if you wish to take left overs home.I would of preferred if the pot of tea could of been left on the table with us. We had to keep asking to be topped up. It’s is £20 per person which reflecting on I feel is very expensive for what you receive. You are not in a separate room, we where seated downstairs in the middle of a busy restaurant. For this price I just would just expect a more personal luxury experience. Realistically we could have went and ordered a scone & a dessert for less than half the price & sat the same spot. The food is very tasty and the staff are more than helpful. Lovely gift shop.

Called in at Ballydougan Pottery for a late breakfast last week. Have to say that their fry's - including the seemingly odd choice of mustard sausages - were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. They have gone for a quaint but upmarket country tea room look and feel which they pull off quite well. Please note that their French Toast is made a a sweet dish with a dusting of flavoured icing sugar much to my daughter's horror! She was expecting some fried 'eggy bread' in a style more akin to our own home cooking but although served in a different style, the meal itself was good.A few minor points coming from the slightly less able bodied point of view-car park is a little far from the entrance and the route is mainly gravel lane way. Also, access is via the shop which has lots of breakables I was in turn afraid of bumping into and knocking over. There was a door in the cafe labelled 'Night use only' which we asked if we could leave by to shorten my journey back to the car. Our server gratefully obliged but had to go and get a bunch of keys and unlock the door to let us out. You might wonder why I comment on this but right above the door is a sign marking it as an emergency exit! Oh dear-looks like someone forgot to open up properly that morning.Overal, however, a good place to eat but maybe just not suitable for me!

All in all it was an exceptional lunch in lovely quaint surroundings. To counter some comments in previous posts I would say the staff were all friendly and did their utmost to ensure my experience was a good one. I was very disappointed with my "Afternoon Tea" as i have coeliacs disease my food had to be gluten free. In this day an age i dont think this should be a problem anymore and i could have taken my own bread with me if allowed. I was with a group of 17 people and their food was exceptional. The choice they had and the amount was very good for the money we paid per head. I had four tiny rectangle presented to me on a tray wouldnt even have consisted of 2 slices of bread. The bread was stale and could not be eaten at all. I asked one of the party to have a taste of mine to which they had to spit into a napkin. I paid the same price as everyone else and all i got was 4 tiny rectangle sandwiches to eat for my lunch on stale bread. You can hardly justify taking near £20 of a person for it.. Did not enjoy it at all. Was very disappointed and def would not recommend it to another coeliac..

I booked a table for a family of 5 for lunch last Saturday, 13th Oct 2018. On arrival no-one acknowledged that we were waiting to be seated so I approached a waitress who didn't even speak, let alone ask if we had booked, but showed us to our table. We were brought menus for lunch by a waitress called Shauna who left us to browse it. We asked for the childrens' menu as we had our grandchildren with us. My daughter ordered sausage and chips for the children and I asked if i could have the same. As if it wasn't obvious enough that I was an adult, (I am 67 years old), I was told I would be charged the adult price - I was dumbfounded when the waitress stated "After all it is a child's menu!" To say that the hospitality was non-existent would be an understatement. Our meals arrived and they were "ok". My daughter and I went to the till to pay. We needed to break the bill down as we were both paying for the meal. I asked to pay for 2 adult meals and my daughter to pay for one adult meal and two children's meals and was told "We don't usually split the bill!" I was so disappointed with the whole experience and will definitely not be back! Aside from the service I found the atmosphere to be pretentious and the staff condescending.

The potter Sean and his assistant were so accommodating and attentive however the same cannot be said for the waitress at afternoon tea. Having previously been informed of special dietary requirements it was disappointing to find these had not been accommodated for. One of the party had a nut allergy and was only able to eat the scones as the sandwich bread and desserts had nuts in them. Another person had requested soya milk and was promptly told to bring their own! The waitress argued about the number of people it was booked for, even though the numbers had been confirmed that morning before we arrived!! Tea and coffee were served and we were told if we wanted more to come downstairs and tell them. Surely they should have been more attentive with the price we had paid per head. Very disappointing service.

Table service was just right, in fact , the only less than100% aspect was the absence of wine list, though perhaps this removal of temptation is positive, given their reliance on customers coming by road!

The food was delicious with all empty plates after. The ladies all complimented the food after to those organising, and were more than impressed with Ballydugan!

Visited hear with some colleagues. We pre ordered our food. When we arrived no drinks order was taken and our food was served promptly. A few of us ordered the chicken and bacon ciabatta. It appeared to be pre cooked and reheated with so much balsamic vinegar on it. It was quite poor. Others had fish and chips which were fine and the desserts were fine. The main lady who served me was quite rude when I asked if they served wine and had any coleslaw and it made some of the group a bit uncomfortable. I have been here before and it's been fine and in a lovely setting, however I won't be returning.

I’ve driven/cycled past this place so many times but this was my first visit for some reason. Really liked the layout and imagine a lot of people would enjoy a browse around the place. It was mid afternoon so I just had a coffee and a dessert and my wife had a soft drink and the soup. Both were really nice and felt £14 was worth it all things considered. I don’t think this is a place for small children and one or two of the staff could do with some personality/warmth. However I will go back and try the breakfast and lunch menu as potentially this place could be great!

We visited today as part of our sisters hen party , we booked the pottery class and afternoon tea ! It was amazing from start to finish , the welcome and the fun during the pottery class , which we were never rushed in any part from start to finish . Then we were seated for our amazing afternoon tea ! I would easily say it was better than a well known 5 star hotel in Belfast ! All the pastry’s were home made and the scones were so delicious ! And the sandwiches were so fresh ! And again constant top ups of tea/ coffee ! Such a fantastic afternoon was had by everyone!! Thank you x

Called for breakfast in party of 3 - 2 of whom were disabled. I had phoned the day before to book and had been told that they were taking no more bookings. When I suggested that we go elsewhere, the girl said that we would be ok to come and that they hadn't turned anyone away since they started the Christmas bookings. When I said we would be there at 9, she said to definitely come and there would be a table.

I visited the café with my MIL and my 5 month old son (he was siting peacefully in his pram) 5 weeks ago and we had a great breakfast so I decided to bring my sister with her 1 year old. We entered the café and I had told my sister where we had set previously and how that would be a great spot for us. When we walked through the café to head to the table we where ushered back up the café and set at a different table we then had to excuse ourselves and ask for highchairs, I found this to be very embarrassing and in my opinion if an establishment wants to seat you at a table they should have a sign at the entrance simple stating 'please wait to be seated'. Giving the staff the opportunity to greet you, ask how many people you need the table for, if highchairs are required and then bring you to a suitable table. This initial impression give us the opinion that children where not welcome. I ordered the same breakfast that I had got previously what I was served was not the same when the waitress asked if everything was ok. I addressed the issue by asking if this is the way it normally is served. She could not give me a direct answer so I then advised her of my previous visit and how delicious it was and how this was definitely not the same so she asked if I wanted to send it back to which I replied yes as I felt it did not do the establishment justice. What I got brought back the exact same bowl of food only mixed up. I ate it as it was ok but absolutely no different from what I would make at home (if anything I would have made it better myself) and nothing like my previous experience. I paid for the breakfasts and the girl asked me if it was any better I advised her no and that it did not give me any incentive to return.

Visited to buy a present in the shop and decided to have lunch also...lovely spacious, comfortable atmospheric restaurant. Lovely menu quite a choice. I opted for a tuna and tomato sandwich on homemade wholemeal bread with a very nice fresh side salad. My husband had Moyallen pork and mustard sausages with onion gravy and mash. All delicious and served in their own pottery dishes. We will be back.

Would recommend a visit to the adjoining pottery. A unique setting for a restaurant - 'old world' style set in the tranquil Ulster countryside.

we stayed in June in a lovely old converted barn. It was so clean and quiet and I just loved waking up in the morning in my lovely white irish linen sheets and lying in the old wooden bedstead with the lovely old fashioned polished wardrobe in front of me: with the early summer light shining through the window and the glimpse of a cow in the field. then up, and into the kitchen and make tea in a huge pot and boil eggs and eat traditional irish bread at a large old oak table. Usual wonderful fun and friendly and authentic Irish hosts. Also very professional.

My family and I called for coffee and scones, biscuits and sandwich. was ok but not friendly. The service was just okay. Scones were lovely, good surroundings. I feel that the restaurant manageress could make a huge improvement if she was more pleasant instead of making people feel they weren't wanted. My card was swiped without asking. I felt we were looked down on, the 3 children were being normal children but not causing any hassle. I felt this perhaps was the reason but from reading other reviews I'm glad I'm not alone in how I felt. No smiles, just a condescending attitude. I'd been recommended the place by a friend. I certainly wouldn't recommend anybody to go. It's such a pity because it's such a quaint place with lovely food (overpriced) - a soup and sandwich 9.50! No better than anywhere that you'd get for 5 pounds, my partner jokingly said "perhaps you get to keep the bowl ". Definitely will not he returning, based on the rudeness and unfriendliness. Very disappointing.

This morning a friend and I visited the establishment for a light breakfast - coffee, toast and marmalade. The decor etc of the restaurant etc is very good as is the food. However this morning, no matter who attended to us, including the 'managers', seemed to have got out of the wrong side of the bed! Yes the service was efficient [although we did have to remind them that we had asked for marmalade] but it was all provided in a very impersonal, robotic manner. No personality, enthusiasm - just going through the motions. When I was paying the bill, I was asked if everything else was ok, I mentioned that it would have been nice if there had been some smiles. The response? Nothing, not even an apology or comment. Will I be back? Yes, but a few smiles and more pleasantness would it a whole lot more enjoyable.
