Sat out under the large parasol. Service was prompt but not rushed and extremely friendly. Excellent value set menu which was also being served on Saturday. Dog friendly too outside - staff brought water for the dogs which was very thoughtful and appreciated. Very pleased indeed and would be happy to return.

Excellent place to relax and have a coffee and cake. Good quality cakes and Viennoiserie , first rate coffee, charming service. We were happier here than in some of the "fancier" tea shops where they cram you in. They also do sandwiches but we were there mid morning so cannot review the "heavier" fare.

We had a great time here. The staff were happy to help and serve, despite the fact that we were the only people brave/foolish to site outside on a cool evening. They also kept us on track with the most cost-effective way of ordering food and were happy to recommend some, very decent, wines. A lovely place.

The food was bland and the service was very slow. A real shame as the menu looked interesting, the building has retained the quirky design and the location is great. It had to be tried but it needs to improve a lot to compete in Brighton.

The menu attracted me to this restaurant. Great variety and different to all the others. Fresh bread, great deli salads, cooked mains and an incredibly good wine list.

I really want to like baker and spice. I was excited when they first came especially with the idea of fresh gluten free bread but I still have yet to see it in store. I've eaten here a couple of times and each time it's been nice but not great. The staff seriously need some training as no one seems to know how to use the till and the service is incredibly slow. The price bracket is a little high which if the service and food were up to scratch I wouldn't mind paying but unfortunately after four visits I'm just not convinced.

Really enjoyed our visit here! We had a jug of pimms to share and we opted for the set lunch menu offer of 3 courses for £13.50 which was brilliant value. The place is really nice inside and has a great outdoor seating area where you can do lots of people watching. Staff really friendly and cake display looked delicious. Will definitely try again.

Three of us visiting Brighton and decided to have dinner in Sunday evening here.Ordered jug of Pimms which had strange taste (strawberry Pimms used instead of original), shared meat platter and steak. Ordered medium but got well done which was not to my liking at all. Chips were fried to long as they were hard rock solid and was not able to put my fork in it.On end we had nice blueberry cheesecake and staff were also nice.I think chef needs little bit of training ...

We went on Friday for dinner and the place was nearly empty, not deservedly though, staff are friendly, there's a good choice of seating, well thought out food if too salty in places. Definitely worth a visit although they really need need to think of an edge, they are in prime position so in high competition. I think best for breakfast and lunch there's too much of a closing time feel at dinner. But wonderful whole Camembert, worth it for that on its own.

The food was actually decent. However, when you are told by the waitress that the chef isn't having the best day and what you ordered isn't what you asked for, it's disappointing. The food came out very late too. The waitress was very helpful and tried her best to correct the issue, which was nice, but the chef needs to get it together!

Such a lovely variety of dishes, friendly staff and warm environment. We sat outside and enjoyed a snack. It is located in a very popular area in the centre of Brighton and very close to the Pavillion.

Sehr freundliche Bedienung.

We booked dinner for eight at this restaurant which describes itself as a "local baker, cafe & deli". The eating space is arranged on three floors (maybe four?), each floor encompassing quite a small space, A dumb waiter (food lift) helps with service, which is just as well since the staff would be hard pressed to bring all the dishes up by hand via quite narrow stairs. The service was a tiny bit slow, though not gallingly so, and there were one or two small mistakes, which were quickly rectified with great good grace. For example, the young waitress had forgotten one side dish, but it arrived as soon as she could arrange it, and she said it wouldn't appear on the bill. On a fairly short menu there were two vegetarian choices, and though one was pasta, the other was not risotto, which was a great relief. Most restaurants go for those easy options, not taking into account that since they all do it, a vegetarian eating out can get a little fed up with being offered something they can easily make at home. And after all, a person can only eat so much mushroom tagliatelle and risotto. The food turned out to be excellent. Among the choices made by our party were fish, mushroom pappardelle and chickpea fritters, which latter sounded as though they would be bit heavy but were light and absolutely delicious. The mushroom pappardelle, (even though it was pasta) was superb, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Side vegetables were beautifully al dente and just a little inventive, so they weren't just boiled or steamed. For example, the spinach came with thinly-sliced garlic, and there were little sticks of aubergine and courgette rolled in polenta before cooking, providing a crunch outside to a tender inside, lifting them above the ordinary. Both the main and side dishes were extremely generous, and the wine was reasonably priced and very drinkable. Desserts were wonderful. At the end of the meal, Elsie, who had been our main server, apologised for the mistakes, explaining that this was their very first evening opening. At the end of the meal, instead of the usual mass-produced mints or chocolates, she brought up a plate of little "kisses", which turned out to be gorgeous, light and lemony almond "gourmandises". Alongside Elsie was Laura, and between the two of them they made our evening very pleasant indeed. Prices were very reasonable, and altogether we had a lovely, satisfying time.

Holidaying in Brighton in mid April we happened upon an attractive al fresco cafe/bistro/restaurant. We ordered and drank our very good coffee then went into the conservatory to pay. Wow! WHAT a feast for the eyes and indeed the tummy! The sort and variety - and quality - of patisserie and baking seldom seen in this country. Wonderful breads in all varieties, cakes, cheesecake, the real deal, pastry base and baked, no crushed crumb with a dollop of Philly here. Croissants, divine little 'mini' croissants which are actually crispy sweet Italian dainties, flavoured with Nutella, just right for a mouthful with coffee. Elegant and delicious, no oozing or overloading. This gastronomic glory has just arrived in Brighton, although already established in London. Their bakers work all night, in the traditional way, to supply these delectable delights fresh every morning. The manager and staff are charming. Now home in Scotland, this will be our go to place whenever we are back in Brighton, which we often are. Bravo Baker and Spice, lang may your lum reek!

Visiting friends in Brighton and came across this recently opened cafe. Very friendly staff and excellent quality food. The bread and pastries are fresh. We called in three times and on our last day had brunch. Considering the location, we thought that it was very good value for money.

We come here at least a couple of times each week. Favourites are the bread, sausage rolls, smoked salmon and scrambled egg croissants, and the ham and cheese baguettes, but everything is great. It's a really great place.

We ordered this food on a whim quite late in an evening after a long day. Every single dish we ordered was a 10/10. The food was piping hot when it arrived and only took around 20-30mins to arrive. We ordered Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean sauce, lemon chicken, egg fried rice and spring rolls. The portions were super generous we had enough for lunch the next day. This will definitely be our go to takeaway from now on.

Absolutely excellent. Had the calamari starter and the small plate of scallops which was exquisite. Glass of Whispering Angel rosé to accompany. Recommended.
