Baileys Cafe and Tea Rooms in York

Baileys Cafe is reasonably priced considering location and what it has to offer. Would recommend for a basic English. Breakfast. Lovely smoothies too!

I had an unpleasant experience at Bailey's cafe. The prawn omelette I ordered lacked seasoning and flavor. Additionally, the vegetarian breakfast option was disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

My experience at this cafe was awful. I ordered a mushroom omelette, but it came without any salt. Despite that, I managed to eat half of it. Then, to my shock, I discovered a prawn inside the omelette. If I had been allergic to seafood, it could have been dangerous. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

I had an horrible experience at Bailey’s cafe. I had a Cheese Omelette 🍳 . It wasn’t cooked well. The chips were soggy and the staff wasn’t welcoming towards the foreigner crowd.

Lovely little place to have some food . The staff were very friendly and the food was amazing . I would definitely go back there. They had a wide choice of dishes . The omelets are amazing and so are the breakfasts .

Really disappointed with this cafe - we came for a very basic bacon roll and a sausage and egg roll. We had asked for extra bacon as only 2 rashers are included on a large roll (definitely not enough especially when considering the price!). When it came, the bacon was really fatty (about half fat half actual meat) so by the time we’d taken it off it was basically just one rasher on a large bread roll. The sausage was nice (nothing special) but the egg was very overcooked. We also had filter coffee which wasn’t great and a Diet Coke which seemed to be straight out of a large bottle. For all of this the price was £22.95 - absolutely ridiculous for a small local greasy spoon cafe.

Fabulous little cafe near River. Extensive menu - all home made from memory including quiche and cakes. Had blue cheese open sandwich- very generous portion. Very tasty. Service was swift. Coffee good. Recommended.

Very popular cafe only 7-8 minutes walk from the rail station, near York Minster with a good range of food & drink options in a pleasant & comfortable atmosphere. Generally better value than many other nearby cafes apart from the, frankly, exhorbitant cost of bog-stand breakfast tea (£3.10 in February 2024) and the requirement to pay almost £1 extra for mushrooms with your breakfast.

this is a local and independent cafe on the outskirts of York city centre, opposite liberty square. It has a wide variety of food and drink to choose from, and a staff member comes to your table to take your order. Payment is taken at the tills. There are plenty of seats as this cafe is quite bigd.

Good value, everyday food, good service and fair price also if your looking for somewhere that's family friendly and a relaxed atmosphere this is the place for you

Always go there every time we visit York

Perfectly average. The atmosphere is virtually non-existent and decor is basic. Service was okay, polite. Our orders were completely messed up: we all asked for English breakfasts in different varieties and non of them came out correctly, I didn't even get toast on mine and none of us asked for a breakfast without toast. Food was average, nothing I couldn't have done a better job of at home. Food was luke warm. Won't be coming back when there are so many better places about.

Convenient location on the right just over the bridge, healthy fresh food and good desserts. Had lunch and dinner there a number of times in October 2023.

Service excellent but got the eggs royale on the specials list and was luke warm at best served with freezing cold hollandaise sauce on the side very dry. Still ate it as my friend in a rush didnt want to complain and wait for refire. However coffee very good value and nice enough. Will still be going back as I think it's good value for money and heard the full English is nice but will get not get muffins again.

Just a lovely little cafe. Breakfast was gorgeous, staff were friendly and a really good price (full English was less than £9. I didn’t want some items on the menu and they swapped them for free. Very clean and no loud music blaring, loads of seating too and quick service

My son's favourite tea room in York. Loves the place, as the waiting staff ALWAYS adapt his order to suit his preferences, without charging extra!!! Highly recommend 😊

There were three of us plus baby in pram at early lunchtime, the staff were very helpful and made room for us with the pram, then we needed a highchair, again they were happy to help. The food was excellent as was the service, we felt most welcome. Highly recommended.

Walked around York for over 3 hours without being able to get a seat for dinner anywhere. Stumbled across this little gem. Had steak pie and chips which was really tastey. Went back the next morning for breakfast and that was just as nice. Freshly cooked on both occassions. The staff where brilliant and worked hard in a very hard in a very busy tea room. Highly recommended.

Visited today for lunch, very busy but staff were welcoming and found us a table as soon as possible. I had the open turkey sandwich which was lovely!! Highly recommend a visit. Will be calling next time we are in York

Visited York for the Christmas markets so everywhere was busy!!! We waited outside in the queue for 15-20 mins but oh boy was it worth it……quite possible the best Sausage & Bacon sandwiches ever. A very quant little cafe, excellent friendly staff, with great views out to the Minster.

This place feels like the canteen in a budget care home …the kind of care home that isn’t very caring, and isn’t really home. It smells like that too. Looking around, the appearance of the clientele does nothing to assuage that uncomfortable impression. To all but the grubbiest of tourists: York is wonderful city with many wonderful places to enjoy a hot drink and a snack, this isn’t one of them. To fellow York residents: I think this place is best left to coach passengers on day trips from Bradford and other such depressing places, they’ll feel right at home.

Great place to come for breakfast the fried toast is top tier! Plus they have a gluten free menu which included all the cakes. Perfectly located between the train station and the minster, would highly recommend! :)

Best breakfast around hands down... No frills, honest, traditional place. Underrated due to the fancy and trendy places in the surrounding area. Everything was hot, fresh, tasty, flawless, very enjoyable and really good value. Service fast and friendly.

I can’t quite understand where the high reviews come from or why on earth so many people were here. Our breakfast here was lackluster and incredibly plain. Nothing presented in an appetizing way. Full English was a soupy mess with runny beans into everything else on the plate, very fatty cold bacon, eggs dry. Two bites in I couldn’t eat it. Tables are clustered together so tightly guests are bumping each other. The ambience is quite odd. It’s a very bare and sterile atmosphere. Staff struggled . We didn’t get our tea until after food. One coffee never came. Server seemed very confused…. By absolutely everything. Big groups of workers came in, but no seats available. They ordered for take away. Once a table opened, they cut the queue and helped themselves to a seat . 3 of them with take away, 3 with packed lunches from home. Mucking about with outside food and taking up seats with a queue at the door. Very disappointing.

We visited again just to see if it had improved. Same low standard of customer service. Staff was more interested in her phone than giving us service at the till. Food was basic. The chef looked dirty overalls / When food came it was basic and greasy. We did not eat much. When we complained We was told : ho ok. and she never came back to answer the situation. We just left as all staff was congregating in the back. You could tell they was avoiding contact with us and talking about there night out. We won’t be going back and so we told friends and family to avoid when going to York Thanks for the last smutty reply to my previous visit. Just goes to show your height standards. I recommend you got on staff training for customer service and food hygiene. Ps I know what I’m talking about as I work for environmental health & my partner runs training company. Thank you.

Place is absolutely vile cheap food and not cooked properly. Cappuccino was out a basic machine and draft juice will never return £23 for a breakfast we didn’t eat!

This cafe does a fantastic full cooked breakfast. I have visited twice and on both occasions the food was great. It does get busy so get there early. The also had some nice looking cakes in the cabinet so will return another time to sample those

Lovely tea rooms that serve very good meals, sandwiches, cakes and scones, the staff are very nice and it's somewhere that when in York we always visit.

We came to York on the train for a service in the Minster on Saturday for the licensing of Layety Ministers and called in for lunch on the way to our hotel on Friday. We then called again for late lunch on Saturday and finally had Sunday roast today. The staff and food are ALL so helpful, curtious and the food is amazing. Caters for all allergies, too. A must to call in for just a coffee to a three course meal. The apple pie 🥧 😋 is great to complete the visit

Great prices for the area, we stopped in for tea and cake and both the cheesecake and the chocolate cake were lovely. The staff were also all very friendly and the service was quick.

My Wife and I visited this place for the first time over the bank holiday weekend, my Wife is disabled and rang them up for directions and explained she had limited mobility, they very kindly reserved us a table. Food was very good and staff were very accommodating.

This is an excellent cafe serving good quality coffee and eats at very competitive prices, considerably cheaper than some of the larger names. Well worth a visit.

My 3 friends& I went for breakfast to this tea room thought we would visit as we hadn’t been before,after eating the breakfast I felt quite sick& that feeling lasted most of the day one of my friends later on on the day had stomach pains. the food in the tea rooms was the only food we had eaten that day,the staff were friendly& efficient I did notice the chef walk past our table I did remark to one of my friends that he didn’t look very clean+ affter scratching his head I said “I hope he washes his hands before touching food”so I won’t be going to this establishment again.

We visited Baileys for a bacon roll - Lovey service, spotlessly clean and roll will jam full with bacon. We returned the following day for a full breakfast. This was piping hot, good quality ingredients and well presented. Service was friendly but not intrusive. Will be our go to breakfast spot for our next visit.

We were going to stop in somewhere just for a coffee, and rather than go to Costa we selected the independent. The lure of an all day Breakfast caught the eye of many of our party and we opted for either the Breakfast or one of the breakfast rolls. Service was fast and friendly. It was a fairly standard breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary but was good value considering the location and kept us fed until dinner many hours later. I prefer to find these little independents. One to keep on my list for my next trip to York.
