Baba's in Cardiff

The perfect place to go in Cardiff for a South Asian street food style meal. The portions are very generous. Great value for money. Full of flavour and has great vegetarian options.

I’ve had food from here a number of times now but haven’t for maybe over a year now. Standard and quality have definitely dropped. It’s quantity over quality. Chicken was well overcooked and very dry. Their black bhuna which is usually tender and flavourful was very chewy and not as spicy as it used to be. Even the naan was a bit stiff. Only thing that was still good as usual were there chicken wontons.

Order was delivered slightly after the time it was meant to get here but wrap still arrived warm. Chips however were underdone, were meant to be masala chips but despite looking red, didn't taste of much. Being undercooked, I stopped after having 3 or 4 hoping it would get better but it didn't. The jumbo wrap is certainly jumbo, could barely finish half of and have to keep it for seconds or even thirds!

I would not recommend this restaurant based on my recent experience. I ordered the shish kebab, which was unfortunately undercooked, and found the bread to be of very poor quality as well. Additionally, I felt the prices were extremely high for the quality of food served. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience.

Tried chicken tikka biryani. It was cooked with bengali style. It was served with gravy as complimentary.

Stunning meal again. Ordered jumbo wrap and chicken tikka wrap via uber eats. Food arrived on time piping hot and delicious. Can't find fault. They never let us down

The Baba's jumbo wrap was incredible. Described by me and the person I visited with as some of the best food we had. Would 10/10 recommend and definitely visit again

Delicious food and great service. Baba's is a breath of fresh air in Cardiff with some interesting and scrumptious street food dishes (we had the paneer wrap and jumbo wrap), but there's also the ol' traditional curries such as masala. Loved the black bhuna and masala fries too! Highly recommend.

Delicious meal, always a winner, never let me down on my meals so far. Whenever I'm staying in Wales I have to try baba's, their instragram pictures sold them to me and so glad I tried it. Best south Asian food in Cardiff by a long distance. Love their new and unheard of dishes but also good to see that they do the traditional British curry dishes. The chips are yummy too!

AVOID AVOID AVOID As you can see below.. and in previous reviews the owner goes to attack a customer themselves.. rather than realising that he might be the issue. You state you are an indian restaurant in the UberEats app. Maybe change this if you aren't (as previously stated before)... it missleads customers. Worst I've had in years! Staff were rude, the Pashwari Naan tastes like plain naan - stay clear!

The wraps and curries (esp Baba's Black Bhuna) are amazing! Good to see some unique dishes and also that they have all the usual traditional British curries. Can't wait to come back!

AVOID AVOID AVOID The owner looks to argue back and personally attack customers anytime someone gives genuine negative feedback.. You state you're an Indian in the Uber Eats app.. Yet you don't claim to be an indian restaurant? Please amend this in the app to stop missleading customers. I've never had a curry separately served with chicken and sauce in different containers.. (4 pieces of chicken at that). Probably use your noggin. Or think about how to make it more obvious in your menu. It is shoddy and lazy to blame a customer genuinely looking for a nice meal. On top of that your staff don't care.. nor care for any feedback. I was met with an 'okay...' and a 'yeah sure.. okay.' Learn to take on criticism when it's given, it might help you as a person grow and hopefully that can be reflected in your food. But from reading replies from your previous reviews. I can see that it is pretty unlikely. Never ordering again. Laughable to state that I lost out on a 'free curry' as something i'd ever want from your establishment. Comedian owner. Avoid avoid.. even just from the owners child like behaviour

Ordered for the family tonight, everyone loved the taste of all food and best of all was given free poppadoms. 😋 so tasty and cannot fault the food. Staff was so nice as forgot to add chutney called them up and she sorted it out for me. Absolutely would recommend them and definitely will be my regular food place from now on.

Ordered a few times now. Always nice food but spice consistency is different every time. Tonight was insanely hot, we couldn’t even finish our curries. Last time we ordered the same curries they weren’t nearly as hot as this. Very tasty initially but then my mouth feels like it’s about to explode. My partner looks like he’s had lip fillers done lol. The naans are lovely, but each time we’ve ordered garlic naan we seem to receive plain naan? I need more garlic! Chicken pakora were the best I’ve ever had though!

I’ve ordered here a few times now and I’ve got to say one of the best places for a delivery. Always hot when it arrives, full of flavour, big portions (chips can feed a family of 4) and priced very well. I’m sat here bloated and happy

Chicken Kebab meat was very dry & too many onions ...mixed kebab meat was dry and I'm sure there was liver in it yuk won't eat from here again £20 for 2 dry kebabs not good

Ordered a takeaway from here tonight and it was amazing! Me and my partner ordered a lamb korma, egg fried rice, dhal puri, the starter for 1 and the jumbo mixed wrap. We had massive portions and have plenty for lunch tomorrow aswell. Food was piping hot and served on time. The lamb korma was the winner for me as it was so creamy and tasty 😍 Will definitely be our new go to Indian.

Ordered it on Uber eat. The prices were fair and the boxes were filled to the brim with food. Loved their poppadoms and flavour.

I was hoping to experience some authentic Indian food while visiting my family in the UK. I have tried many Indian restaurants in Cardiff anyway. One friend suggested this place. The lamb biryani was so basic and plane, just packed with turmerics and nothing else. The Korma was the worst I have ever had. Mixture of just white flour and some yellow coloring.this place is an insult to the Indian culture. I am glad I did not have food poising the next day. And for such a bad quality of food it is so overpriced.

This place is a little gem. I have had food previously and loved it. Today i suggested it to friends whilst looking a for a takeaway… OMG it is better than ever! Would not fault anything .

I was told about your wraps & how good they were. Tried 1 last week & it lived up to what I was getting told so I thought I would try your curry tonight. And to be honest, the flavours & the meat was so tender that I think your the best around the area. Absolutely loved it and you’ll be seeing a lot more of me. 10/10

We love this Indian. We spoiled ourselves to a king prawn biryani and we disappointed because whole king prawns aren't used, they're cut in half and butterflyed. There wasn't many of them either, not worth £13.95.

Worst customer experience, I found pieces of clingfilm in my keema naan. Another experience was their lack of safety hazards and regulations as they didn’t display a caution wet hazard sign as the floor was soaking nor did they clean it therefore resulted in my family member falling and sustained painful injuries. Never coming here again.

Got the jumbo wrap which was amazing, the mint sauce was a perfect condiment with it. We also got the mixed starter, samosa was a bit soggy as it was mixed with other stuff. The pakoras and sheekh kebab was lovely. Overall great food and will definitely be revisiting to try the curry’s and biryani.

Absolutely disgusting attitude and behaviour from the restaurant! We have ordered from this restaurant despite items being missed out of our delivery 4 times! More recently, they had left out our onion bhajis (again!) Despite me putting a message for them to not forget our poppadoms or bhajis. The restaurant's attitude when we phoned was to basically call me a liar! They were rude and hostile! We will not use this restaurant again!!!!

Friday night curry night 🙌 As far as takeaways go, Indian isn't too high on my go to list, but when you throw BABAs into the mix, that changes everything! ❤ Here I ordered ➡️ 🍴Chicken tikka starter 🍴Black Bhuna (comes with paratha) 🍴Chicken Balti 🍴Peshwari naan Stunning. All of it. That black bhuna especially, is legendary, and I can see why! Incredible flavours 🤤 If you're not a big fan of spice like me then these are solid options too👌

Had a chicken korma with rice and a keema naan, was very nice and extremely worth it for the good price. I don't usually order curry so was a bit of a risk for me. Will deffinately order again!

Bad experience. I ordered a chicken balti and a lamb karahi. The chicken was really dry but the lamb was just inedible. I would go as far as to say it was the driest meat I have ever eaten. Even a sharp knife struggled to cut it up. Asked for a refund. Didn't happen. I ended up walking there to show the person behind the counter how dry the the lamb was! They just asked me if I wanted to buy a new one? After I protested, they cooked a new one which was a bit better but they had a really bad attitude about it despite me being really polite! A real shame as I have used these dozens of times when they were in their old premises in Splott. Perhaps there has been a change of management, who knows? EDIT: Just spoken to them on the phone. Confirmed that they have actually had numerous orders from me in the past from my old address. Not sure why the person here is misrepresenting me. Really sad. Have a great evening.

If I could give a zero I would, but fortunately for them I can’t! I ordered chicken buna and chicken tikka karai, and different naans. The peshwari naan was burnt to a crisp with a hole in the middle (possibly from picking off the burnt bits), there was no difference between garlic naan and regular naan. Chicken karai was probably the worst karai I’ve ever tasted. The chicken buna wasn’t any better. To top it all off it gave us food poisoning today. I never leave review but because of how atrocious it was I had to. I thought it would be good just like how they show it on their sponsored ad on Instagram but it was nothing like advertised (on the advertisement the curry’s were full to the brim in the container but we got just over half). Do not recommend, waste of £20.

Finally we found you... Very impressed with the quality and flavour. Well done Baba's... We had our first online order last night, easy and prompt... Tandoori chicken wings, wow!!.. We enjoyed all the food we ordered, jumbo samosa, rogan josh, mushrooms rice, mix grilled, naan and the tamarin sauce.. Mmm very good!!.. Can't wait to try other menu...

Baba’s food is reliably excellent. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. Portions are a good size. Nicely cooked. Not greasy. Interesting spices. Very reasonable prices.

I regularly order from Baba's as they're always so consistent and it's really great value, especially for veggies. If you're looking for something a bit different I also recommend the Veg Kofta Ball curry which is unlike anything I've had anywhere else - it's kinda like a falafel made from paneer in a lovely rich sauce. Highly recommended! Moreover, the whole menu is super reasonably priced. A large rice is less than £3 and is more than enough for 2 people + second helpings + the potato/paneer side dishes are large enough that they can be eaten as a main. This isn't fine dining but it's flavourful, well priced takeaway grub.

love the food from babas, never disappoint on taste or flavor or quality. I'm always happy when food arrives as I know I will be satisfied and there's always left over for the next day, what is not to love about this place. Can't praise the chef enough.

Having read so many reviews regarding here thought I would try the street food range I opted for the wings. Jumbo samosas and the jumbo wrap. Firstly I'd like to add maybe a side salad with the samosas would have been a nice touch. Also the jumbo wrap was overwhelmed with onions so once you take away all the onions your not left with a lot of chicken and lamb. The wings were very tasty and a fairly good portion of 6. I will return again and maybe try the curries.

First time I had a meal from here and I really wanted to like it. Sadly I didn't. Onion bhaji were unlike any I've had before, chewy on the outside and really soft and mushy inside. Not much spinach in my chicken saag, chicken was chewy in both curries I had. Not huge portions either. May try once more just to be sure it wasn't just an off day.

Thank you for a delicious meal. We really liked Baba’s biryani and the sauce that came with it. The street food menu is really unique, wish we had photos of the wontons, but they were so deliciously crunchy, they were gone in under minute!

Always order from Baba’s and in my opinion one of the best in Cardiff! Little bit disappointing that it states on the website that you get a free bottle of drink with orders over £25, I think we had it once.. but definitely the last twice we’ve spent £30 at least and didn’t get a drink at all.

Probably the best take away I have ever had. A few of us had the jumbo wraps and all of us were very satisfied. We will definitely be going back here very soon.

Some of the best indian food in cardiff! I've been ordering here since they opened and i can't fault them. Everything i've tried on the menu has been fantastic especially the biryanis. I ordered some food from BABA'S takeaway in cardiff recently as I was staying there for a cousin's wedding. When I ordered, the food arrived fresh, hot and was made exactly the way I asked. I would definitely reccomend BABA'S Black Buna and would recommend anyone travelling in the area to visit BABA'S. We need a BABA'S in London!!!!

Tuve cordero bhoona hace unos días, que era 6. 50 es exactamente el mismo plato cambiando diferentes nombres me cobran el doble del precio. He ordenado Khala bhoona y pollo dhansak y un ajo naan para 20. Cuando llegué a casa, mi ajo naan estaba frío y me dieron una parata crujiente y fría que tuve que guardar y comer. Llamé a la comida para llevar y les dije, pero el niño no estaba interesado. . .Le pregunté que suponía que era el doble de la porción, pero era más pequeña que mi cordero bhoona.El chico del teléfono me dijo que eran dos parata que me costaron dinero extra. No quería la parata, quería el doble de la porción que especificaban sus menús, así que por favor no engañen a sus clientes, es malo para su negocio. tienda.

Nice food but did not deliver to first floor flat so I wouldn't use again. If I wanted to go out to collect food I would not order and pay for delivery. The reply about H&S is a silly lie, as if this were the case you would not be able to deliver to flats under any circumstances, unless you admit yo breaking H&S rules when you want to?
