Ayr India in South Ayrshire

This is an excellent place for lunch or evening meals. All of us (3 generations, 6 people) enjoyed our choices. Staff were friendly and competent. Highly recommended.

Used to be the best Indian restaurant in Ayr but has gone downhill over the last few years. Just had a delivery where my food was left outside on the doorstep. By the time we had called to see what had happened to our order and told that it was left at the door, the food was cold. Bad delivery service has lost Ayr India, another customer.

Had lunch and was amazing would recommend.

The restaurant is comfortable and the staff polite. The lunch menu is essentially an a la carte selection of two courses plus rice or naan. At £17 this is a bit on the expensive side. I do understand that there are considerable operating expenses, but this pushes the lunch into the "special occasions" bucket. The food itself is excellent, particularly the vegetable pakora and there is a wide selection of vegetarian options. The service is quick and efficient and I wasn't rushed out the door on finishing. Overall a very enjoyable lunch, if a bit expensive.

Visited this place in Nov,2023 with my colleague. The food was good as compared to other Indian restaurants but the prices are an absolutely shambles . I was flabbergasted by the bill I saw for two people having a starter and main course. It was bloody £ 106 ..!! . I wanted to inquire further about the itemized prices but refrain to do it. The waitress with the American accent seems clueless and she was confused all this time when we asked her anything. I have to say the food was good but the price is an absolute Rip off .! Won’t visit it again until they review their prices ..!

King prawn Korma... the prawns (seriously) were tasteless, like solid rubber (no joking), the Korma tasted NOTHING like Korma. And the prices are 100% EXTORTIONATE. 2 Popadoms, 2 Meals, 2 nans, 2 deserts 3 diet cokes. £90!!!!!!!!!! FOOD NOT UP TO THE PRICE.

First and foremost the food was sub- par, service and staff were great. Unfortunately the food was very expensive. Extremely expensive even. 2 people it cost £90 and thats without a starter! An ok Indian but wouldn’t recommend due to the price.

Purchased from this restaurant previously and food was amazing. As a returning customer, assumed food would be great again, however, food was horrendous. For the tune of £30, denied any sort of refund, and was only offered another meal. Avoid unless you want to pay for the privilege for solid, unseasoned Tesco chicken.

I recommend the food, but ensure you establish exactly what you'll be paying before ordering. We were asked simply if we'd "like some poppadoms while we wait", but not told that we would have to pay for these or how much they's cost (£10). This may be a cultural thing depending on where you I, but in my experience: A) poppadoms and sauces are complementary, and B) If something is offered, it should always be made clear that it must be paid for, and C) It wasn't just poppadoms anyway, it was sauces too. Small point I know but it all adds up. But besides the hidden costs, when we asked for the bill to be split (as we were two different families) - the attached photo is what we got back. As you can see, it's not exactly easy to decipher! When I asked for an explanation, the waitress abruptly listed what we'd eaten but didn't offer to calculate for us, and so we were left with some Krypton Factor-esque challenge to get to the bottom of it. My friend asked her once again, but she was on texting on her phone and rudely told him to wait - before coming back with the same piece of paper! Eventually the waiter came with a calculator, and he was polite too. So we got there in the end, even though it was a lot bit more expensive than expected and we had to do some ridiculous maths challenge rather than relax at the end of a meal. Ok grub though.

If you're looking for conventional South Asian cuisine, you'll largely find Indian and Nepalese flavors.This location is ideal and comes highly recommended.

Came here and we got handed a set menu. We said we didn’t want everything in the set menu,so we didn’t take the starters.The waitress said that’s no problem you can’t take as little as you like.but she failed to mention that we would still get charged the full amount. II believe it was £12.50 or so.n my opinion the waitress should have told us then we could have left or ordered 2 starters. In my opinion it was sharp practice or the waitress just charged us a set menu price no matter what,but at the very least she should have told us.No returns for the 3 of us I’m afraid

Not got too much time to go into detail, suffice to say we pretty much got what I expected from Ayr India. Vastly overpriced and quality of food and depth of flavour(s), very poor. I asked for my partner's South Indian garlic chilli chicken to be made ultra spicy and it arrived at a temperature even I could take (which is a joke). No idea why this restaurant can command such prices. Wouldn't recommend at all.

We walked in early evening, about 6 pm, for dinner, and the restaurant was moderately busy by then. In short, we loved it. The waiter was completely on the ball, settling us in, seeing to other diners, back to us to check and take our orders - he made sure our evening went smoothly and enjoyably. The food was a delight - delicious, well presented and generous - and we loved it all. There's a good selection of well-priced wines to enjoy, so we did. The staff were attentive throughout, friendly and professional but never intrusive - sometimes a hard act to pull off - but our waiter and one of the kitchen staff made sure we were happy throughout our well-paced evening. We have been to India numerous times and the food it’s always extremely fresh and tasty. Service is second to none and food served fast and warm, your always made feel very welcome by all the staff who take time to speak to you and make sure your happy. Restaurant is spotless and very covid safe with plenty of safety measure in place I.e one way system, toilet cleaning after each use and hand sanitiser available to use. Wouldn’t go any where else for an Indian meal 5*****

Staying at Craig tara we decided to head out of the complex for a nice meal (10min drive).Staff really friendly and outgoing. Restaurant clean and following all covid regulations. Great variety on the menu and proper fresh indian food. Highly recommend & will definitely return.

Shocking curry.. Use the same base gravy for every dish. We ordered 4 different curries and they came out pretty much identical - and they all tasted bang average. The lamb wasn't good quality in mine either.. Very very poor, especially for the crazy high prices they charge.. £4.50 for a naan!!

Went in for late lunch, there is a lunch menu £10.50 for 2 course. I got chicken pakora partner got chicken Puri both delicious. Mains I had the mango chicken never had it before but would thoroughly recommend it comes with plain rice we also had chicken dansak with garlic nan. On first impressions was going to walk out as gentleman was pretty rude about not being able to scan the track and trace code as I do not carry my phone when out for a lovely meal.We did ignore his manner and just excused him as we had read great reviews about the restaurant. Had onion bhaji, chicken kahari, rice and garlic nan. The starter was huge and the nan was double the usual we get in Northern Ireland. The food was served quickly and really tasty. Alot of covid regulations being implemented!!

Chose here for our first outing after our second covid lockdown. £10.50 for lunch. (Website price not been updated yet, it says £9.90). Warm welcome from waiter. Covid measures clearly explained and simple to follow. Excellent choice on menu. Poppadoms and dips arrived - all fresh and very tasty. More dips served without asking. Waiter friendly, personable and interested in his customers. Starters arrived - really tasty. Vegetable pakora x2 and haggis pakora We (3 of us) really enjoyed. Main course came in a timely fashion. Flavoursome, plenty of meat in the dishes, pilau rice tasty too, we also ordered a garlic naan - fantastic, plenty to share, so light and fresh. We each had a soft drink. Total bill £39.60. Great value and would highly recommend. P.S. thanks for making it a special birthday lunch for my friend.

We ordered our usual take away from here last night and it was up to its usual high standard. It arrived on time and was piping hot and delicious as usual. Thank you again Ayr India for providing us with another excellent Indian meal.

Visited in the evening and we were given full instructions as to how the Covide precautions were being operated. The waiter was apologetic for the fact that we had to use a one way system but it worked well. The food was excellent and the starters we ordered, seek kebab and onion bhaji were big enough for us to share. The main course I chose was lamb passanda and the lamb was well cooked and really tasty. My wife chose a chicken dish and she enjoyed this. The lemon rice served was really good and the portion sizes were were generous. Whenever we visit Ayr we make sure that we eat at this restaurant and we look forward to coming back again. The staff are very friendly and will take time to advise which dishes would suit specific tastes.

Just returned after an excellent meal at Ayr India town restaurant.The puri starters were delicious and the mains of chicken bhuna and the staff curry also excellent.The service from our arrival until we finished from Sunny was first class.We usually use the beach retaurant during summer but we're now back to the town restaurant.Really Good.

Went again for the 2nd time in a week, shows just how good the atmosphere and food is not to mention our awesome host sunny really made our lunch a treat! We will definitely be back again. I thought this Indian would be good considering there are multiple in Ayr but I’ve learnt that it must be through lack of choice that it’s still operating. Very greesy and slimy curries, lack of taste or any real consistency. They do a sharing platter starter of onions bajis, samosas and mixed veg pakora, apparently serves 2-3 people for £12.95. I’ve never felt so ripped off - One onion baji, one greesy samosa and a couple of fried mushrooms and cauliflower. No garlic on the garlic naan, just cold boring bread. The only positive was the free bottle of wine if you spend over £30 but honestly I’m not holding out hope for that either, will probably end up in a bottle raffle.

This is the original and authentic Indian restaurant. I would like to say original flavour of Indian food. service is five star. Enough measures have been taken place due to covid. Felt extremely safe. Will surely visit again. Highly highly recommend to try if you are near by.

Went to Ayr India today during my September holiday weekend, having not been for a number of years. COVID mitigations were well thought out and made us feel very safe. The service was excellent. The food superb! The Peshwari nan possibly the best nan bread I have ever tasted! An interesting wee dish, Mango Chicken on the menu which my mum had. The cost at £10.50 for poppadoms, pickles, starter and main course was very reasonable. Will definitely be back, but won’t take as long the next time.

My husband and I and a friend visited Ayr India Alloway Place for lunch the other day, our first since March because of lockdown. Once again Ayr India did not disappoint. Our lunch priced at £10.50, two courses (including five and nan bread) plus popaddums and sauces/chutney. The whole meal was terrific as was the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. It is certainly worth a visit. Social distancing was observed to the letter. We’ll certainly be back, soon!

We have been very loyal diners here for the last 3yrs and always had beautiful meals, that is until 2 weeks ago. We ordered a take-away and were shocked at the quality. Chicken Poori was so salty it was inedible. A one off we thought. How wrong we were. My main was Mixed Tandoori. The mixed lamb kebab was raw in the middle, the sauce again far too salty and the chicken dry and over-cooked. The whole lot was left. I called the next day to let them know and spoke to a rather rude gentleman whos answer was "I'll give you something off next time." I did let him know we had kept the food if they wanted to check it and also let him know we had always had lovely meals there. He didnt seem that bothered. My answer "next time, there wont be a next time". Sad to see the decline in what was a lovely restaurant and lovely meals.

A bit hesitant to eat out but nothing to worry here. The new covid arrangements were explained and the system round the restaurant. We were evenly spread around and it was reassuring the management had paid attention to detail. The food was amazing and the staff discreet but attentive. Only been here once before but I am sure the food is even better. This is a must visit whilst in Ayrshire.

Little jewel in the crown in Ayr, beautiful restaurant and the food is out of this world. All COVID 19 practices expertly adhered to by Sunny, the most handsome of waiters . Had a lovely chat whilst given a complimentary aperitif, very nice touch ! Came to Ayr for a break away from Yorkshire and was recommended Ayr India to eat. We weren’t disappointed at all, food was so tasty and staff extremely polite and friendly, I would easily give 10 out of 10 🙂🙂

We called in for a lovely lunch at the Ayr India restaurant on Alloway Road.This is a modern clean restaurant and all current covid safety precautions are in place. On arrival we were greated by friendly member of staff and shown to a window seat. We chose from the lunch time menu and weren't disappointed.Poppadom and chutney/onion appetisers followed by haggis pakora for me and chicken pakora for my girlfriend.I chose chicken Chasni with rice, for my main, and my girlfriend chose chicken korma which was accompanied with the biggest nan bread I have ever seen.The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty and I can say that it was the best Indian meal that we have had for years.The portions were more than adequate and my girlfriend had to take most of her curry and nan bread away to eat later.The lunchtime menu is an absolute bargain at £10.50 per person.This restaurant is a must if you looking to eat out in Ayr.

We had high hopes as my husband had previously had an excellent takeaway and eaten at the restaurant. What was delivered surprisingly quickly was a rubbery overcooked starter. The mains both tasted and looked exactly the same (bland and salty) despite supposedly being different curries. A very disappointing experience and waste of money. Wouldn’t recommend or use them again.

Had a great meal, both the girl waitresses were lovely and friendly. The reason for not giving 5 stars is we felt the manager (Sunny who said his name wasn't Sunny) was a bit rude and abrupt, in fact he was very rude to one of the waitresses in front of the customers.

Pre ordered a takeaway for a special birthday and it came bang on time. Great customer care from the guy who took the order! Ordered various dishes and everyone commented on the quality and the quantity. Thank you so much Ayr India .

I must begin this review by stating that we LOVE this restaurant and have been several times without complaint. Last night however has given us some real ‘food for thought’ ( excuse the pun!) We ordered a delivery and were told 40 mins .. that’s fine. However, 20 mins later it arrived at our door - so it wasn’t freshly cooked. We thought no more and tucked in .... it was dreadful. We spent £50 on this takeaway so NOT CHEAP. The veg starter selection was awful, rubbery and not crispy, the Vegetable Dopiaza ( my regular dish) was thin and thoroughly tasteless and as for the King Prawn Bhuna, although tasty the prawns were inedible. Rubbery, thick and INEDIBLE. Clearly having been precooked and then microwaved. Awful meal and an utter waste of £50 - very disappointed

I am currently beginning this review, 2 and a half hours after ordering from Ayr India. Of course these are difficult times due to the current situation. We placed an order for two curries, two portions of rice and one portion of chips at quarter to six this evening. I then phoned the restaurant around 7pm to enquire about the whereabouts of our order as we we’re given an estimated delivery time of 45 minutes to an hour. At this point I was told my order was not in the restaurant and nobody had any recollection of the order. I was then asked to phone the other restaurant to ensure that I hadn’t placed my order there. As much as I was frustrated and offended, I did this, then embarrassing myself phoning yet another establishment who I knew I had not placed an order with. I then phoned the restaurant, again. The girl on the phone was helpful, unlike her colleague, and the order was supposedly located and then given to the kitchen over an hour after it was ordered. However, yet another hour and 20 minutes later, there is no sign of our order. I am now extremely hungry and extremely annoyed at the lack of care shown by the restaurant. We have used Ayr India’s seafront restaurant many a time growing up, and now I must say I am not impressed with their counterpart. No standard of food is worth the humiliation and wait that we have been put through as a family tonight and if I had known the issues that would occur with this one order I would never have bothered to give this restaurant the business. Working in a cuisine restaurant myself, I am appalled at the lack of concern for the customer as nothing was done about the wait time of the food. From ordering to receiving our food there was a 3 hour window of time, which simply is not acceptable. The food non surprisingly although tasted as it should, was cold and unenjoyable, especially considering it was expect 2 hours previous to it actually being received.

Went after horse racing at Ayr. Although it got very busy very quickly the service was first class. Food was of a very good standard and the starters and mains were reasonably priced, I felt that the sundries, rice, nans etc. were a bit pricey.

Popped in for the set Lunch for which we had an e mail through offering us the chance of 2 courses for £6.99, the welcome was warm and friendly. The lunch also included Poppadom and pickles which were really fresh and tasty. Between us both we had Chicken poori which is really the best i have ever tasted, Chiken pakora (yum) Chicken Korma , i could drink the sauce as it was so delicious and Chicken mango sizzle which was just wow, it really packs a spicy but not hot punch. This place is really worth a visit, it is clean, the service is great and the food is fresh and tasty. We will be back soon

5/5 Although the lunchtime menu was very cheap the food and service by Sunny the waiter was awesome as usual. If you haven't been before give it a try,you will not be disappointed .

We visited for lunch while out shopping and where very impressed with this plate. Very good value for money and the food was superb. Good vegetarian choices. Our waiter, Sunny, was very friendly and helpful. All round a great place to eat.

Can't fault this restaurant at all, always enjoy going there. Best Indian by far. Great deals every month. Excellent sevice especially Sunny. Cant wait for oyr next visit

Storm Jorge was battering at the doors, and the skies were greyer than my mates face last nightwhen I asked him to repay the 20 quid I'd lent him. But our day was brightened up no end when we had lunch in what surely must be Ayr's premier Indian restaurant. Spiced onions and poppadoms, haggis pakora, vegetable pakora, lamb Karachi, chicken tikka chain, pilau rice and naan bread, all for less than that 20 quid my mate eventually coughed up. It was great. The staff were superb too. Sonny was a star. Couldn't fault the restaurant at all.We'll be back.

We visited Ayr India Alloway place today 28/2/2020 12pm where we were met by Sunny, showed us to our table took our jackets got our drinks, brought the poppadoms & 3 dips, our starters were chicken pakora & haggis pakora(aye) mains 2 lamb curry's. Service was very quick & attentive, sunny could not do enough for us, the food was superb as well, to the management your staff especially Sunny we're 1st class, will definitely be back again.

I cannot fault the food here!, we all had something different and there wasn’t a bad meal at the table we ordered from the special banquet (has to be booked online) and everything that came was great, we had starters that we would not usually order and loved them. The main course were perfect as they ask what you like. I would definitely recommend the sweet nan as that was a favourite with everyone at the table. The staff were great especially Sunny who had great banter with everyone at the table.

My first visit to this restaurant tho usually i go to the seafront one. I now have various food intolerances which can make ordering difficult(no meat, no milk, no gluten) but the friendly waiter took this in his stride and advised me on a suitable meal choice. It was freshly prepared, sizzling hot and tasty. i particularly liked the use of fresh herbs and small garnishes that added taste and texture to my meal. Not cheap but I'll certainly go there again as I'm now replete with just the right amount of spice.

This time I went to my favourite restaurant with 2 different people. I normally hate recommending a place to eat as everyone has different tastes but they loved their choice of chicken dishes and were very impressed with the beautiful surroundings and the tasty freshly prepared food cooked to their preference. Sunny was our waiter and as always he was also Sunny by nature. I had delicious vegan dishes that I hadn't tasted before served with lovely Indian bread and rice. Will be back very soon and so will my friends!!!

This was our first visit to Ayr India but it won't be the last, we can't wait to go back! We were welcomed like old friends and treated like precious customers from start to finish. The waiter made reccomendations to us based on our choices, informing us on the detail about what we were ordering and how it was prepared and I'm so glad we listened. The food is absolutely delicious. The portions are very generous, as is the welcome. Don't hesitate to eat here!

I live in the area and have brought many business colleagues to this restaurant. The quality of the food is always excellent and what I love is that the staff take time to ask what you like. They can either make recommendations or will vary a meal especially for your requirement.

We booked for the banquet and were very pleased with the selection of dishes. The staff were very welcoming and the restaurant is cosy and inviting with modern decor. Really enjoyed the whole experience and was great value for money ,highly recommend it.

Booked a family meal for my daughters engagement. Service as usual at this restaurant was really good, I’ve been many times. Staff very pleasant and attentive and food was fantastic. Very friendly atmosphere. 👍😁

Bunch of girls from work all went out for dinner. It was very tasty thought portion size for main meal was a wee bit small. That's was the only downside.

My sister and I enjoyed another lovely meal this evening at Ayr India Alloway Place. When we arrived we were made very welcome by Mahesh and Gagandeep who are always very friendly, polite and helpful. I also get good advice on which meals would be suitable for me as I follow a vegan diet. There are plenty of choices available for people with different dietary requirements which is very important. The surroundings are beautiful and it has a nice relaxed atmosphere with the Indian music playing in the back ground. This is the only place in Ayr I can enjoy a meal so I highly recommend Ayr India.

Visited on a very quiet evening, only one other table. Food was good and so was service but was the most expensive I have ever had. Over £80 with only 2 beers. No wonder they are quiet!!

Had a lovely meal the food was piping hot when it arrived at the table. Waiters were very attentive and courteous. Great view of the beach and sea views.

First time I had been in this restaurant and it won't be my last. The place is lovely the food is great and the staff cannot do enough for you. They were very attentive and we even received a complimentary drink after we had paid which was very kind. The English guy that worked there was very good at his job, very polite and even shook our hand as we were leaving.

We had the Chilli Paneer as a starter. The Chicken Butter Masala and the Keema Aloo Methi (Lamb) for our main course.

Did a family takeaway for 5 people from there; good mix of meat and vegetarian dishes to suit everyone. Everything was good, but I couldn't point to anything as being magnificent. Been there a few times, always a solid, safe choice
