Second time i have been here for lunch nice home cooked food at a decent price locals are friendly staff nice lovely pub will come again next time in the area

What a lovely little pub. Atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming. Moved to the area last year so still exploring eateries etc. Sp pleased we found this one. Food was so tasty and well presented. Will definitely return to this lovely pub.

When visiting family in the area we popped in for lunch. We ordered 2 jacket potatoes with fillings and 2 panninis. Good service and friendly. Good tasty portions and a good price. A good place for lunch.

Me and a friend were visiting the area and popped in for Sunday lunch on the off chance. We were too lste but told we could have fish and chips with peas. The food arrived and my friend, who was from Brazil, said it was the nice fish in batter he'd ever tasted. I had to agree...Nice and crispy but not greasy accompanied with a generous portion of delicious chips and peas. I live in Wisbech about an 80 minute drive away but will definitely come back

Great food for a great price with friendly service What more can you ask for from a village pub , love the prawn cocktail and the mix grill and you can't beat the Sunday carvery, been going for the last few years now and plan on going for quite a few more

Ordered 2 chicken curry’s , if you like chicken cubes with a jar of Aldi curry sauce poured over it for £13 then this is the place for you , it isn’t the place for me so we definitely will not be going again !! Disappointing and Disgusting !!

Great pub for everything really. Beer and other drinks choice is really good, and the food is of good quality and really well priced. Has a little play area in the garden for the kids to play in and is dog friendly so ticked all the boxes for us. Staff are really friendly as well, really can’t fault the Place.

Good local, friendly, excellent home cooked food, just wish they could include a vegetarian option on the Specials menu and also a veggie pie on Thursdays, as much as I like most of the veggie options on the normal menu, it's a bit repetitive when you visit fairly regularly.....believe it or not there are quite a few of us veggies in this part of the UK😀

We came to the pub twice in the space of 4 days: once for lunch and once for dinner. Both experiences were incredible! Staff were very polite and welcoming, the atmosphere was excellent and the food was incredible! My personal highlight was the southern fried chicken burger and my girlfriend’s was the chocolate and orange slice! Our son loved the chicken bites! Amazing experience all round and will definitely be back!

Great pub, lovely food. We had a family break and visited the Axe and Cleaver a couple of times. The second visit was great, as always. Friendly staff and atmosphere. The food was amazing and really good value.

Had a meal here with family, unfortunately I had an accident after our meal going down the slide with my child when there was a bench less than a meter away at the bottom of the slide where I split my head open. The aftercare was seriously lacking from the pub, luckily a nurse was in the restaurant who took care of me, she was handed a very old out of date first aid kit which lacked a lot of basic stuff you'd expect in a first aid kit. When we asked "should we fill out an accident book?" the staff seemed reluctant and eventually went to find one and I was told "just filled your details here" and we will fill in accident details.... Seems a bit suspicious to me. We actually planned to go back here later on in the week but changed our mind because of the aftercare.

Passing by and wanted a pub meal. Chose fish and chips, and scampi and chips. Arrived really quickly, generous sized haddock and no complaints. Staff, without exception, were all really friendly and helpful. Seemed to be predominantly locals, which has got to be a good sign.

We were pointed towards this place by a friend who lives locally and we weren’t disappointed. The food was freshly prepared and very tasty, prices were pretty reasonable overall. We had a couple of pints while here and the staff couldn’t have done enough for us, allowing me to taste a couple of ciders before choosing one. It was good to find a pub where customer service was still a priority. We will be back if we’re ever in the area again.

Once again a brilliant night at The Axe. Food superb. Haddock & Chips to die for with the biggest piece of fish you've ever seen and a Pizza that would rival any Italian. The band afterwards (Re-Generate) were on superb form as usual and are definitely much better as a trio. Versions of Every Ones A Winner and Whatever You Want were particular favourites. Good beer too. Tim Taylor Landlord was on song and nice to see a Cornish beer in Tribute both of which supplement XB admirably . Never get a bad pint here anyway. All in all a great night enjoyed by both of us in what is a super pub with such helpful and welcoming staff all of which had to work very hard during this packed evening. Thank You, Bev & Dave.

Stopped in here for a nice Irish coffee after visiting the seal colony on a cold December day.. the staff are amazing, coffee and desserts were absolutely delicious... Nice warm cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended! The parking lot was jammed full so I expected the place to be standing room only, however, the pub is deceptively larger inside and there was plenty of room ... We booked here in advance whilst on holiday in the area and were drawn to booking an evening meal as they accept dogs in the restaurant. They allowed us to pre book for a large table and managed to squeeze us in on a busy night with lots of other large tables and our dog too. Despite the number of tables in, the service was very efficient & friendly, the food was amazing. The pie was one of the best pies I have ever eaten. The staff were so friendly and warm despite it being what could be a busy stressful Saturday night. We will certainly be coming back here whilst on holiday in the area. The only possible point for improvement I could find was the males toilet floor was absolutely soaking during our visit with some kind of unknown liquid whilst there.

Me and my wife visited as we were staying down the road at Sunnydale caravan park. You go into a little entrance where a member of staff takes your temperature, it was a little bit of a surprise having our temperatures took that way but it only hurt when the thermometer 1st went in lol.The service was pretty good and food not bad but they did get my wife’s order wrong. She had steak and ale pie and wanted chips but got smash which she detests. Prices are reasonable.

Visited here when we were on holiday in Louth cannot tell you how good the food is in this pub would 100% recommend this place to anyone. Excellent service staff were amazing especially in the situation we find ourselves at the moment. If we are ever that way again it will be the first place on our list to visit. The new procedures in place following covid were efficient. The food was excellent. Really good quality food, service and atmosphere. Good value for money also. I read a lot of positive opinions about this place. So me and my husband won't try something and we are very disappointed with the take away food that we ordered. The steaks were supposed to be medium rare and they was a well done and it was impossible to eat it like chewing gum. The fries were slick, we don't know why. The prawns I ordered were raw and had no good cleansing. They were in breadcrumbs, which I did not know, because neither on the menu or by the phone when I called, I was not given that information. They were just a finished, cylinder-shaped product dropped into deep oil. I paid £ 35 and we didn't eat any of it, I put everything in the bin. I've never thrown food in the trash in my life I'm devastated. I do not recommend this place

We stayed at Pigeon Cottage (B&B) just a short walk away from the Axe & Cleaver Pub so this was an ideal location for us to have a bit of fun during the evenings. We had pre-booked a table for the Wednesday evening (via email before our arrival) and so we thought we would pop in the night before to have a look at the pub. We had our temperatures taken upon arrival and had to leave our name and contact number - the place was very well organised and we, as a family felt very safe. Karen and her staff were amazing and worked so hard. We decided that we had found a nice place to eat and decided to book a table for the rest of the week!!The menu had a great choice and options for everyone. They had special deals on certain days too. The food was fantastic and the portions were large! Nothing was too much trouble for Karen and her team and even though they were clearly busy every evening, serving meals, whilst abiding by all the Covid rules, they went out of their way to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. They had a good table system in place, where you can press buttons of "pay", "call" or "cancel" to get their attention. They had a great selection of gins too!Well done to you all and thank you for your hospitality, we will certainly come and find you again in the future.

Found by chance needed a drink and food the women were all so lovely chatty and welcoming. We had one of best Sunday dinners we've ever had and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. Would 100% recommend this gem.

What a lovely lovely place. Our first visit but will definitely be back. Food absolutely fantastic, huge portions and really well priced. But what made it for us was the friendly staff. Really made us feel welcome with our 2 children and paid them lots of attention. Each table has a little buzzer so if you need anything someone pops straight away which was a fab idea. We’ll be back soon! :)

Local pub the service was spot on a bell on your table ...drinks. food. pay ....social distance was well organised with a marquee for rainy day etc ....had fish and chips it was ok the pudding was enormous the service was lovely ......wouldn’t say fresh food but certainly a good tea time meal served lovingly will try again as we are a bit picky with fish and the pie as been recommended

We had a lovely experience at the Axe and Cleaver. Covid measures were in place which made all of us feel comfortable and safe. The service was great and so was the food. We are looking forward to returning.

Popped in for dinner having seen reviews on TA. The team here are very friendly and welcoming. It's clearly a well run locals pub as a lot of people seemed to know the owners and staff. The food however, was not great. Visit for a drink or two but skip the nosh.

Feeling nervous about going out for food but took the plunge here simply because they had helped the community out in recent lockdown and we wanted to support local business. On arrival we had to ring the doorbell, sanitize our hands, we then had our temperature taken, sounds like hospital admission, but it was our date night! It was explained to us the one way system and the table service (we had a bell on the table). The menu was extensive, food was well cooked, good value for money, great service, the staff could not have made us feel safer or well taken care of, it’s not the most salubrious place but it met our expectations, well done to all the staff for the COVID19 guidelines measurements in place they could not do more Thank you

Ok, so I have not been to this Restuarant before to eat but I will be going when this awful virus is killed off! That's is a promise.I am going to visit the Axe &Clever because I want to support Paul & Karen, they jumped at the chance of helping me out with baking ingredients, so I can bake for the Hospital staff in Lincoln. I have to take my disabled daughter there for her portacath to be cleaned, she has an autoimmune problem which is now very serious as she will pick up any virus, infection going. I have no option but to go to the hospital as there is nowhere local that can do the cleaning of the port as it is quite specialised.So if I am going to Lincoln Hospital, but I am going with homemade cakes and biscuits, etc. The staff work so hard, they are on the frontline, not by choice but because they are dedicated to the jobs that they do.I am now able to do this because of the donations (FOC) made by Paul & Karen. ~I had some baking ingredients but not enough.One email and they were offering flour, cocoa, and other items, this kind of kindness is what life is all about. They did not want paying and happily gave me the goodsWe need to keep supporting their business and supporting them. I believe in karma; I know that it will be coming around with something very special for them both. Thank you so very much for helping and supporting the NHS staff. Love Rob, Magi & Cat xxx
