Avenue Bistro in Tendring

A return visit, but our last one was 2.5 years ago during a previous stay to visit our Walton relatives! All I remembered from last time was that it was really nice, so I hoped the standards were the same. I needn't have worried about that - all four of us throughly enjoyed our dinner. Special shout-out for the moules starter and pork belly main - both were delicious. It was a busy Saturday night and the atmosphere was great. Hopefully we won't leave it quite as long until our third visit!

Excellent food, great service, busy and buzzing

Visited on Saturday evening with friends. Food was good and service excellent as always. Unfortunately it was very noisy and impossible to hold a conversation across a round table for 5 people. ⁹

My mother and I had lunch here yesterday we both had the Moroccan chicken and crème brûlée. The food was absolutely delicious! The waitress Thea was delightful we were very pleased with the whole experience.

A really special place to go and eat, the food really is that step above from what you’d normally get elsewhere. So too is the service and the warm welcome, which is always superbly offered.

Just seen the new seasonal menu, one assumes they are a Chef down it is so limited and uninteresting? Wont be bothering.

Really lovely meal set in a nice atmosphere, we went on a Wednesday when there was live music, both of us really enjoyed the food and the after dinner cocktails were lovely, I think the bill was around 130 which included a bottle of wine and sparkling water.

Best Sunday lunch I have had in years. Staff are very sexy😉 ,and also very good service, great wines list and have a draught lager on tap. IRISH coffee very good. Well done chef, 10 out of 10.

Amazing restaurant. It didn’t just win best restaurant in Essex recently for no reason. We all really enjoyed the ambience, the staff were very friendly and the food was insane.

Unfortunately we didn’t eat so my review isn’t based on the food. I had a booking for my boyfriends birthday and asked if we could bring a cake, but they do not allow you to eat it because of an incident they had, but we’re happy to take £50 to allow us to eat our cake 🤣. Even though we would of been spending over £200 because we are a party of 8 What a shame!

Wow! Visiting friends in the area and booked for Sunday lunch on 29th October 2023 for a table of 4 just by chance. What a find! A warm welcome followed by great service and fantastic food. Delicious evening meal. Beautiful environment + wonderful staff. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection, followed by creme brulé. Highly recommend.

This is how bistros used to be, you feel like you are going somewhere a little fancy and the service special without being over the top. Yes it’s a little pricey but totally worth it…as are the cocktails. It makes such a change not to have chain restaurants on a high street. Our first visit and we will be back.

We were taken here whilst visiting family. Truly impressed by service, menu and quality of food. Had a 3 course early evening meal and wanted to move to Frinton just to be near this restaurant. Can't praise it enough.

Moved here a couple years ago and had quite a few visits! The Sunday Roast is the best in the area by far! Always feel welcome and they accommodate us when we have the baby too. Happy cheerful staff as well. Will be a regular for us in the years to come.

Really nice staff, who were very helpful. They were very flexible with my wife's birthday booking. Food was very good and they catered well with normal and vegetarian options. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for something a little more higher standard in the area.

Ordered steak requested well done came pink returned back to kitchen still pink unfortunately husband had finished meal well before me left half of steak and waitress who brought bill ignored that meal not what I had ordered felt dismissed

We had an absolutely amazing time at Avenue Bistro. The service from the team were outstanding - they are super professional, friendly and so kind to our dog (they immediately brought over a water bowl as we sat down). They're dog friendly both inside and outside, which surprised us as the restaurant decor is beautiful. The food was so delicious and were generous portions. We were sad they only took cash tip and we didn't have any cash on us - I've never wanted to give a tip so much in my life! We'll definitely visit again and be sure to have cash tip on us next time!

Beautiful restaurant and super friendly staff. Not the cheapest place so we expected something special. Starters and mains were good - but dessert chosen was a disappointment for the £8.95 price. The warm chocolate fondant pudding came in just a ramekin dish on a small plate, with the scoop of ice cream on top. No finesse in presenting it on a larger plate with ice cream separate and perhaps a little decoration too. So the dessert quickly became a little dish of chocolate mush with the melted ice cream. Not impressed and we left on a sad note…

Disappointing Expensive but definitely not value for money. Over priced Roast potatoes seemed to be reheated frozen potatoes. Beef extremely rare (raw!) and very fatty.

We come from East London regularly to sample the excellent food. Can’t wait till the summer to eat in the outdoor section! Not only are the steaks superb the menu offers other superb vegetarian delights !!!

Out with a friend and we called in for a late lunch on a Friday. Was our first visit and could not have been better. Excellent service and ambience. We booked a table, quite last minute, but they were able to accommodate us. We were welcomed by someone as soon as we arrived and given a choice of table. The atmosphere was lovely, clearly a very popular restaurant. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was excellent. You definitely get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Went to this bistro on Friday last Had not booked, but at 1345hrs a table for four was available. We had beef pie, Moroccan chicken, roast cod and liver and bacon all served with vegetables. Each meal looked good, and according to everyone at our table was good, our young lady server was friendly, chatty and seemed to be enjoying her work which was a nice touch. Sunday lunch made to feel rushed, almost empty, setting tables around us, and rather off putting having the restaurants family sitting at a table casually talking on the phone as if sitting in the local cafe.

Excellent Sunday roasts. Food is good, staff friendly. I asked a mixed roasts which was not on the menu but they took the trouble to make it happen for me. The restaurant is bright and open with a modern touch. Parking freely available on the streets. Food 8.5/10, ambience 8.5/10, service 8.5/10, value for money 8/10. A real gem!

Lovely birthday meal at Avenue Bistro. Food was excellent, service was too. Tables promptly cleared, the staff were friendly and attentive. Nice decor and the large doors were open to keep the restaurant cool. There is enclosed outside seating to the front of the restaurant, they even provide lightweight blankets if it gets chilly outside in the evening. It is a busy restaurant so booking is advised.

Booked the same morning for 18:30 no problem. We cancelled a prior booking elsewhere to go here. As usual, the staff were pleasant and attentive, the food arrived quicker than on previous occasions despite ordering the same thing. And again as usual the food was fantastic. Scallops were perfect and my steak was melt in the mouth delicious. For the two of us there was little change out of £100, but worth every penny. Highly recommended.

Stumbled across this place last night whilst struggling to find somewhere to eat and was incredibly happy that we did, what a wonderful experience. The food was so tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were fantastic the cocktails were delicious. It absolutely made our weekend away perfect, would recommend and will definitely return. Big thumbs up!

A very small but lovely place you have here! The fact it’s small makes it so much better, normally in a huge restaurant your lost amongst all the other tables and sometimes service can be hit and miss but not at this place! Probably the best restaurant in the area. Atmosphere, service & food is first rate. The family visited on Saturday night and all were thoroughly impressed with the whole experience. This is our fourth visit and we have never been disappointed.
