Aux Merveilleux de Fred in Kensington and Chelsea

My friend and I stopped by here for coffee and Merveilleux treats. They are fluffy merengue like desserts that are covered with almonds, hazelnuts and other toppings. Kinda tricky to eat, and a bit too sweet. We ordered two and came in a cute box. Fancy!

Sadly going downhill. Sandwiches used to be great. Now there is very little filling, too much mayonnaise (why mayonnaise in a mozzarella and pesto sandwich?), salty and poorly executed. Salmon very salty, skimpy and fatty fillings for egg, tuna, goat cheese. Also seems like the quality of the fillings are not as good. The brioche are noticeably smaller. Must be the cost of expansion but not a fan anymore. Looks better than it is.

This is a superb stop off for coffee and an amazing choice of cakes/pastries. Pavement tables and chairs in entrance to Leadenhall Market. We picked a nice day to sit out which was great with friendly service and good choice. Also good for takeaway all being prepared in front of your eyes under an amazing chandelier. Definitely worth a visit to snack or just to look through the window.

I walked here each morning during our stay in South Kensington for coffee and croissants. Take away service was quick, with coffee made to order. My wife was happy to enjoy breakfast in our hotel room. There is a nice variety of baked goods and we loved everything we tried. The coffee was excellent too.

Nous sommes tombées dessus par hasard en promenade dans la City, bien triste par un week-end pluvieux. C’était un des rares lieux ouverts. Rien que pour cela l’équipe mérite une mention très bien ! De plus ils savent faire des merveilleux impeccables et sont d’une extrême gentillesse. Allez-y !

Coffee and a large Brioche Bun highly recommended start to the day. The coffee is great, I had a flat white which was better than those from large coffee chains. I wanted to sit in all day trying cakes and the great selection of sandwiches. Opted for a large Brioche Bun which was delicious. Great food and polite staff. Will visit again!

I was walking past and noticed the shop window crammed full of large round buns which turned out to be brioche with either chocolate chips, raisins or just plain. The smell inside the shop was divine and I ordered a large raisin "Cramique". The two ladies serving were very friendly and informed us that all pastries and cakes were freshly made on site. The Cramique was indeed delicious, light, fluffy and not too sweet but super fresh.

Stopped at this cafe in Northcote Rd with my Nanna for afternoon tea after seeing the meringues in the window. The smell of the bakery was amazing. We had 2 of the meringues (1 large & 1 small) which were filled with a flavoured cream (we had chocolate & coffee). We visited in August 2019.

Food and drinks were great just a lack of choices and not that late in the day. Covered area with outdoor seating. Good atmosphere

I stumbled across this bakery in which I had breakfast on two successive mornings. The raisin brioche buns were lovely as was the melt in the mouth meringue served with the coffee. Very nice people too.

Wonderful little bakery. The brioche were fantastic and really good quality coffee. I couldn’t believe how reasonable the prices were given the excellent produce and friendly service. I would highly recommend and will return next time I am in London.

Absolutely delicious! We decided to try them on our way to the V&A and all products were exquisite, ended up returning for the best almond croissants we have had in the UK. Will definitely return .

We visited the Leadenhall branch and had a lovely pastry and also a cheese and ham baguette. Both cooked on the premises and you can see them being made. Quality was good and a great setting in the market

Excellent all round, don't see any way in which this place could improve. Friendly service, wonderful food (all home made) great coffee and interesting to be able to see into the bakery and watch the process while you enjoy the products. Can't recommend highly enough.

Quite simply the best croissant in london...fresh flaky and light . I normally get the almond or the plain butter croissant and it never fails to live up to the expectation.

This bakery is a favorite of everyone we know who lives in the Chelsea- Kensington area. Brioche in small or large sizes - plain, chocolate, raisins, sugar and chocolate.... tons of flavors. The brioche, of course are best for breakfast and brunch and much lighter...

We are so glad we found this amazing place! Delicious scones and caramel creme. Great service and so many options. Highly recommend.

Been here a few times. Tried both the small and big merveileux. If you love meringue, go for the big one, I think there's two pieces sandwiching the cream filling. If you like cream, go for the small one, maybe I'm wrong but it feels like there's only one piece of meringue on the base and the rest was cream and sugary sauce in the middle. The Merveilleux are delightful. Particularly fond on the Praline but a variety take away is fun and give plenty of optionsLess visible but excellent are the Cramiques in the best Belgian tradition ... a must for breakfast or tea time. Brioche and Croissants are very yummy too. A must stop by. The adventure started in Paris , I am fan whenever in Geneva and now in South Kensington.

Wow. We walked in, not fully sure what to expect, but everything looked delicious. Merveilleux cakes are like nothing I have had before. The base is a crisp meringue, but these are so much more, like magical sugary clouds made of cream. The flavors are nuanced and bold all at the same time, and the textures are just as complex.

Goddelijke brioche rozijnenbollen, warm uit de oven, echt to die for. Eenvoudige doch chique inrichting, prettig vertoeven in deze patisserie/bakkerij. Vriendelijk personeel, lekkere thee, fijne bankjes en stoelen met uitzicht op bakkerij. Mocht je er niet toevallig langskomen, doe dan moeite er te komen (South Kensington station)

Simplicity at its finest. Brioche and coffee perfection. It is a must if your looking for good coffee, pastries and quiet.

This is a gem. Simply the best brioche ever ever ever. You can have plain, sugar and raisin. You can have little ones or big ones. But they will all be totally yummy. It’s really wicked! And then, if you want a special patisserie, try their merveilleux. Hard to explain how these little unassuming mini mountains can be so so very tasty. But believe me they are. They are the lightest mixture of meringue and cream and chocolate/coffee/hazelnuts/cherry depending on the flavour you choose. Yes: a coffee shop that really focuses on 2 things. But they are both perfect. Amazing. Thank you. They put a smile on everyone’s face.

Popped in to grab a coffee and a light snack and was not disappointed. The best coffee I have had in London. Accompanied by a tasty meringue.

Choice is not huge, but what we tried was great. Pain au chocolat which melts in your mounth and a good portion of chocolate in it, a dreamy croissant, and the rasin brioche which features a gentle crust with soft crumb inside. They also have a couple of tables and serve coffee if you want to sit inside.

We came to this cafe every morning, and it felt like we were in the streets of paris. We tried almost everything and let me tell you... wow!! We are coming back the second we arrive in london next time.

We passed this place repeatedly while depositing and picking up our grandson at a nearby school, dropped in a few times and enjoyed their excellent croissants, brioches, pain au chocolat as well as their coffees. It is a small place so sometimes difficult to find a seat, but whether eating in or taking some of their goodies out, the culinary experience was always stellar.

Knowing what a real good buttery brioche tastes like I was hesitant to go in but am so glad I did! THE most amazing brioche I have ever tasted! Huge in size, delicate in taste. Plain or with chocolate chips... must try!

Nice patisserie with soft well made brioche. Have been twice and the place really is nice. Does not feel like a chain which is good. The brioche stands out. Very soft, light and with great taste. The tea is alright, maybe I did not choose the best tea.

Stumbled upon this bakery by sheer conincidence-once you enter you get a dose of luring fresh brioche scent. This is actually what this bakery does: baking several types of brioche along with a few other pastries. The briohce buns were so good I had the urge to return for a second round. It's not in Central London so you have to travel by underground but well worth your time!

Eine französische Konditorei mittten in South Kensington! Brioches in allen Variationen, mit Rosinen, mit Schokolade .... frisch aus der Backstube, in die man durch eine große Glasscheibe sehen kann.

Había aparcado en la calle Brompton la esperanza de encontrar un lugar para conseguir algo adecuado cruasanes y donde aparcamos pasan a ser justo en frente de su tienda. Nos encantó lo que vimos en la ventana y me fui, lo primero que encuentras es el olor encantador de productos recién horneados. Ese día compramos una tarta y un pequeño cramique merengue para mi hija, que le encantó.

Nos topamos con esta tienda en nuestro camino a la cena. Las galletas de té y otros productos de panadería parecía delicioso. No inicialmente parada. Mientras esperábamos por los entrantes de la cena yo no podía conseguir la visión de la galleta de té de mi mente. Decidí coger el paseo de vuelta antes de la tienda cerrada. Me alegré de que no porque la galleta de té era el mejor que he probado y el merengue eran divinas. Debes probar si estás en la zona.

Forget the "french" chains in London. You must visit this place if you want to really enjoy delicious bakery products. Nothing to add, it's just perfect. Not so many type of products, but it's not a big deal because brioches and merveilleux are just incredibly. I found this shop during a trip to Brussels, I looked for the same in London and tried. Top quality, much cheaper than many of the so-called French patisseries.

Sweet stuff from another world. Very specialized bakery. The brioche with chocolate available in different sizes were delicious.

I LOVE the brioches and merveilleux at Aux Merveilleux de Fred - they're refined, light and incredibly tasty! Must try if you're in the area and looking for a light yet delicious sweet bite.

To me this is how a coffee should be.... Sit down and within moments a smiley face brings a decent coffee and brioche! The place is beautifully decorated, welcoming, has fresh excellent baked goods, and the price is less than those awful chains up and down every high street in Britain. I give it five, top marks you smiley bakery team! Please note it is very small, likely geared towards selling quality baked goods, so don't expect to take a coach load in!

If you told me I would be knocked flat by a $4 meringue I'd have called you crazy. But I'd have been wrong - the merveilleux are meringue delights. A miraculous combination of light, fluffy, crispy and sweet. What a phenomenal treat. My only regret is that we just found this on our last evening in London so I will have to content myself with pining for a merveilleux until I can visit again. A big hit with the whole family.

I love their merveilles, they are literally like munching into a cloud, what a texture! The ingredients and technique are very high but unfortunately, so are their prices, even for London standards!Once in a while, worth the extra calorie :D

The croissants are good, not great. The brioche would be very good, but instead a bit heavy ( cause not quite cooked enough and/or slightly too big lumps of dough ). The coffee latte very good. The service is very French...It would only be 4 stars if it weren't for the ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS "Merveilleux" !

Visited this establishment on a saturday afternoon. I chose it because I like to support independents over the chains. The cakes look stunning, you can see the experts prepping the goods behind a screen. The decor and ambience are very pleasing. I had a croissant. Perfect ,If a little on the small side. The flat white coffee was absolutely dreadful I'm sorry to say. It was far far too hot. I burnt my tongue. Consequently,as I drew away from the cup too quickly in shock I dribbled coffee down my tie. More importantly though the beans were awful, either that or he grind was too course. It was watery and the taste sting and bitter. Dreadful. What made it worse the milk wasn't proper microfoam. After a few sips it had disappeared to nothing. I threw 80% away. It's a shame it really want smaller independents to win over the chains but this one has to do better.

There are places a review because I have been once and I have loved them, places that I have been once and have hated.. And there are places I have tried every single one of the products they have multiple times and they are all just amazing. These places are not many. This is one of them. The meringue cakes are fresh, tasty and extremely light, perhaps too sweet for some but still terrific. The caramel waffles are different to the standard ones but are excellent... And then there is the brioche... These can really make you day, especially when they are just out of the oven nothing can beat them. Sugar > plain > chocolate >raisin but that's just me. All the staff are really nice and appear to enjoy what they do.If you are in doubt about this place, just open the door and smell.. See if you can leave without trying.

Small shop, 3 min walk from South Kensington tube - worth the walk. Delicious brioche, always fresh & warm! The chocolate chip is bliss - you don't need butter or a spread - just eat it pure & simple with a cup of coffee. Also took a few to go. Will be back. The staff are friendly & you can look into kitchen & watch cakes being made. There are a few tables & Chairs - and the fresh-baked smell is divine ;)

I had the white chocolate cake, it was wonderful. Nice and fluffy, wonderful but not overly sweet. I went in the afternoon which was slow, but it looked like only one woman working seemed stretched thin.

L'accueil est excellent, la serveuse très sympathique. Nous avons pris une cramique au sucre, un mini merveilleux au chocolat et un aux spéculoos, ainsi qu'un pain au chocolat (on avait très faim!) et tout était délicieux. La cramique sortait du four et était moelleuse à souhait, les merveilleux étaient ultra légers et avaient très bon goût, et le pain au chocolat avait un bon goût de beurre. Parfait pour un dimanche après-midi pluvieux !

I visited this place while I was staying at a hotel around the corner while in London for my business trip. When I walked inside the place was filled with layers of fresh made brioches and well made pastries like croissants, the ambience is great and they serve coffee and tea which was a plus to eat and drink and enjoy the venue.

You HAVE to go to Aux Merveilleux de Fred and buy a brioche - they are just amazing. Light as air, not doughy and stodgy like British equivalents. We took 4 hungry children straight from ice skating and they were silent as they ate their fluffy flavoursome delights, all beautifully baked, selected and packaged by the wonderfully authentic staff. I challenge anyone to find better brioche not only in London, but in France. Really wish they did same day delivery to North Wales!!!

It is clearly French, upmarket - and unlike anything else on the high street.Inside it is extremely well decorated, the bakery is not just visible - it is the back of the shop.Comfortable chairs and banquettes - friendly and efficient staff all dressed in a very smart uniform.Only two types of cakes - brioche and a meringue/cream combination. Both, though, come in lots of flavours and sizes. They also make excellent croissants.So, you'd expect this to be ultra expensive. It isn't! The coffees, cake and croissant we had were about the same price as Costa.A really outstanding place - and truly different, excellent cakes. Worth a (big) detour!
