Proper Cornish pasty for a proper Cornish lady

Being a couple of local cycling girls we make our mission to check out all the pasty shops in Cornwall when we ride. This is absolutely our number one favourite. Great pasties. Crumbly pastry, lots of tasty filling, and the staff are super friendly.

Very disappointed despite advertising being open until 3pm I got there at 2 and they said they were closing, after that people went in and got served 🤷‍♂️ ….Found a great sandwich at Hellys on the prom, won’t be going back to Aunty Mays

The Crab baguettes are expensive but really very good. Normal sandwiches are normally priced. Friendly, chatty, staff are good and the Pork Pie and the Bacon and Egg Pie were very tasty. You'll not go far wrong if you want a sandwich/takeaway. We'll go there again.

Had carb baguette and crab sandwich here today and both were the best sandwiches we have ever tasted! Top notch service and recommend to everyone

Excellent place for a take away lunch. Excellent newlyn crab baguette. Staff always friendly and polite. Very extensive menu choice of filled rolls, baguettes and sandwiches, plus hot food of pasties and sausage rolls. Nice cake slices all homemade. Caters for vegetarians and vegans. Not the cheapest but amazing food

We regularly visit Aunty Mays for lunch. There's nothing better than a stroll along the seafront eating one of their fantastic baguettes and the pasty's.

Had a pasty for lunch. Very tasty lots of meat and veg, well worth the trip.

My first real Cornish pasty and it was scrumptious! We ordered a traditional and the steak was so tender. The pastry was buttery and flaky. The women behind the counter were super nice too.

We grabbed a sandwich from here, tuna salad and a prawn mayo, plentiful tasty filling, gorgeous fresh bread and our puppy was given some bacon which was very kind. Will visit again next time in the area.

We called in at the start of our drive back to London to pick up some sandwiches for the journey. We were served by a very friendly member of staff who helpfully pointed me towards the vegan options - I was pleased to see there were quite a few including vegan pasties, sandwiches and cakes. Our sandwiches and cakes (lemon drizzle and vegan carrot cake) were delicious and we enjoyed our coffee too.

bought two pasties - 1 cheese and the other chicken - well what can I say the worst ever- both just lots of pastry stuffed with mainly swede and potato. Hard to find any cheese BUT the chicken was disgusting - just a few bits of precooked sliced chicken in the edge - what a disappointment and a disgrace to true Cornish pasties -Aunty May you should be ashamed! Even the dog wouldn't touch it!

Husband loved his hot cornish pasty. I had a coronation chicken baguette which was packed with filling and was lovely.

Visited here for a takeaway lunch last Saturday and enjoyed it. Friendly service, who explained the choice, before settling on a very tasty 'Traditional Cornish Pasty' that we ate outside. Only point to mention that stopped a perfect '5' score was the amount of dripping liquid that came out of it whilst eating it, which made it a rather messy experience.

This isn’t just a past shop it’s a fab place for a takeaway lunch. Everything is made locally and they have a fabulous range of vegan and vegetarian dishes (a bit of a rarity in Cornwall where most places have one good veggie dish but no choice) we had a Homity pie, a sweet Potato and bean turnover and a slice of chilli and red pepper quiche. All delicious. The women who run it are friendly and chatty and very welcoming. We went back the following day to put together a picnic and the salad bowls were delicious. All the packaging was plastic free too.

Me and my friends visited here yesterday while in cornwall and the sandwiches were amazing! The staff were friendly and the ingredients were all fresh! We has chicken mayo and sweetcorn and ham salad baguettes, the bread was amazing! I would recommend!

On this particularly warm sunny day we took the local bus from Mousehole to Penzance. Then after a bit of window shopping we walked the length of the seawall back to Newlyn: a good thirty minutes amble. In Newlyn we had a baguette made for both of us, for our lunch, at this busy little takeaway. My Partner enjoyed a Bacon salad baguette and I had a crab meat and salad baguette; both with mayonnaise. We sat in a local grassed park area in the shade of a large tree and ate our lunch. It was peaceful but not as comfortable as having a couple of chairs to sit on. We both enjoyed the snack but the baguettes were very large and this snack was a bit too much for my Partner’s appetite. The lady behind the counter here was very pleasant and allowed us to have the baguettes filled as we wanted, and certainly there was no skimping on the good fresh and quality ingredients. The only shame was that there was no pavement seating outside this eatery to allow us to sit and eat.

Fantastic choice, value for money and the best part is the friendly staff. Amazing place to stop for lunch and a laugh.

My family’s favourite place in Newlyn, we’re definitely regulars lol. Friendly, caring staff, and amazing fresh food :)

Great place to grab lunch or coffee to eat on the go or on the beach. Chocolate brownie or white chocolate flapjack really good. Jacket potatoes are big!

I don't know why a cafe would bother listing cappuccino and late, when all you get for either is a coffee filled to the brim with boiling hot milk, with not a trace of foam. Dangerously hot, and nothing like the advertised beverage.Service consisted of being officiously ordered about to stand here or stand there.I wouldn't recommend.

I cycle all over the westcountry with my friend Jane. Being Cornish we're big pasty fans. We've eaten pasties all over the county but we both agree these are the best we've had anywhere. Yummy and fantastic. Nice staff too.

Put simply the best Cornish Pasty you will ever eat (and I have eaten quite a few). Intended to go to Mackerel Sky across the road but wasn't prepared to wait so had the best party from Aunty Mays. On a par with Pengenna in St Ives.

Auntie May is a real gem and they sell a lot more than pasties eg. fresh salads with a mix of options to choose from and really tasty and imaginative quiches. It’s hard to overstate the scrumptiousness of the cakes which are very difficult to resist. The shop caters for all tastes and as a vegetarian it is really appreciated. All the staff, in my experience, are delightful which also makes this shop very special.

Visited on a few occasions during week of 14th August. We had chicken, cheese and meat pasty’s on a number of days for lunch and also brought some home with us. Wow they are fantastic

We had 2 pasties and 3 sandwiches from aunty mays. All were absolutely delicious. I had the tuna ,red onion and sweet corn baguette which was so nice. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Visited the very first day we got to Penzance. My boyfriend told me it’s the best Cornish pasty he had ever had in Cornwall. I understand this is a bold statement, in which I am no expert in due to it being my first visit to Cornwall. But my gosh it was beautiful! Instead of rubbish minced beef (sometimes feels too processed) it was chunks of beef that melted in your mouth! Next time we are back in Cornwall I will definitely return, and will continue to tell everyone I know about how nice it was!!

Absolutely the best Cornish pasties I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few). Pastry was perfect being crisp and flaky, filling well seasoned and diced. A very large and generous portion as well. There was a bit of a queue when we visited, but it wasn’t long and well worth the wait.

Auntie Mays serves great pasties. The steak inside the traditional pasty was phenomenal and the portion was generous. The staff were also very friendly. Would definitely recommend!

A steak pasty, a chicken one, and a sausage roll (between 3 people, I hasten to add) I wish my Aunty could bake as well as Aunty May. Everything was delicious, and the pasties tasted almost sweet in comparison to others, which I find often have a slightly bitter aftertaste. Special mention to the pasties' pastry, too, which was light and crispy - although I suspect a little delicate were you wanting to take one down a mine for lunch.Heartily recommended.

Bloody brilliant bakery with HUGE (‘medium’ 😂) Cornish pasties. My bf was in search of the most authentic pastie in the south west and I think we might have found it. Walked out with our body weight in baked goods & a fabulous tote bag (love a bitty merch!). Make sure you’re prepared for a queue - it’s very popular!

Recommended by our B and B hosts, they were spot on... A medium steak pasty was an entire meal by itself (VERY generous portions!), and very reasonably priced too, would definitely go back here if I'm in the area again.

You want the best Cornish Pasties, here’s your place. Contents absolute quality, pastry even better. Best I’ve had on about 8 trips to Cornwall.

Vegetable pasty was very tasty. Normally cheese and onion is the only veggie option when it comes to pies and pasties however this was apparently the same mix as the meat one but with cheese replacing the meat. I felt I wasn't missing out on the pasty experience. Happy to recommend.

We popped in here to grab a picnic lunch for our SWCP hike from Portreath to Hayle.I had a freshly made (in front of my very eyes) beef salad baguette and caramel shortbread, whilst my partner opted for a coronation chicken sandwich and chocolate brownie, all of which were absolutely delicious. Proper fresh, floury baguette with a decent amount of filling. The guy behind the counter was very pleasant. This all came to £13. They also sell quiches, scotch eggs and pasty’s and much more. The best deli in Newlyn and can’t wait to return for our lunch tomorrow!Highly recommend!

What a superb little Deli and cafe! Easy to access at the crossroads and very friendly service. We had the tastiest baguette filled to the brim with chicken tika mayo and salad plus a good flat white.We would certainly stop here again really good value for money and mire important, very tasty.

Found a new way of getting closer to heaven. A cold beer and an Aunty Mays' traditional pastie. Awesome warm and friendly service too.

We only stumbled across Aunty May's 5 days into our stay in Newlyn and we wish we'd found her sooner! Best pastys and breakfast rolls... i can still smell the bread!!! We've booked to visit Cornwall again next Spring and we have already planned an Aunty May's picnic day.

This is the second pasty review I've written, following recent family holiday Near NewlynI can't get enough Cornish pasties. When holidaying in Cornwall, I would quite literally eat one for lunch and one for dinner every day, if not restrained by my family.Part of the fun is trying different bakeries' versions of the traditional recipe - I have tried MANY. On this particular trip, three pasty brands I tried came under the category of 'excellent' but, for me, Aunty May's were substantially more excellent than the competition.My idea of a good pasty is that it must have short crust pasrtry but it should not be dry and crumbly; the individual constituents should be evenly distributed within the pie and should neither form a homogenous mush nor be dry and separate; it should be well seasoned and noticeably peppery; and it should, if advertised as large, BE large! Aunty May's match all those criteria. I particularly loved the pastry which was perfection. Even at the very centre of the crust, there was none of the dense, dry texture that you so often encounter.As far as I am concerned, interms of pasties, we have a winner for 2020.Aunty May's deserves its reoputation.

Stopped by Aunty Mays by complete coincidence whilst passing through Newlyn (or perhaps it was meant to be as she had exactly what we wanted ready and waiting!) The pasties were simply incredible! Delicious, tasty and enjoyed by all the family. Furthermore we were welcomed and served with a smile, which was lovely. She even gave us advice on how best to reheat - which worked perfectly by the way! Unfortunatly, they were so damn tasty no photo was taken, so this review will just have to be text only! Thanks Aunty May for a great lunch treat..!

While in Cornwall, had to pick up a proper traditional Cornish pasty or two- these were yummy and served with a smile (and some extra advice on reheating too!)

Cheese pasties! Can't get enough!

Cornish pasties sales have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, with many different variants available. If you want to sample a wonderful example of the original and best Cornish pasty, (made as required in Kernow) then come to Newlyn and get one of Aunty May's. The staff are friendly and helpful and their products, eaten on a sunny day looking out over Newlyn harbour, are unbeatable. Thankfully, we just beat the pandemic travel shutdown and, 'Oh how happy us'll be when us gets to the West country' again when it's all over. Hope to see you there!

Excellent pasties of different fillings all of which were delicious.cannot speak highly enough of them. They freeze well so a dozen were bought for the freezer.

I have been to this pasty shop so many times over the years which really says everything. Unfortunately it was closed for the new year and we were unable to partake. However, I was able to purchase one of their lovely pasties earlier in the year and although it was closed this time, I thought I would recommend a visit when in the area.

Quite possibly the best Cornish (chicken) pasty I’ve ever had. Buttery, flakey pastry with piping hot filling. Generous amounts of chicken too. Great coffee too - the espresso was quite flavoursome. My only regret is not visiting again!

Absolute gem of newlyn! Just came in for something quick yummy and reasonable and this ticks all the boxes!! I had a quiche with side salad and a large slice of Millionaire shortbread - GORGEOUS!! Would recommend to anyone, only accepts cash.

One of the best vegetarian pasties i’ve ever had. Reasonably priced and very very friendly staff who were patient whilst our family of five kept changing which pasties they wanted!

I’ve stopped here twice to grab takeaway lunch while doing my voluntary job. And it will now be a regular stop.

One of the best pasties I have ever had! Great flavour and piping hot. Please try this rather than warrens across the road as you really go get the proper taste of a great pasty. Made to tried and tested formula which cannot fail to beat.

Excellent takeaway lunch of beef, spinach and horseradish quiche with a side salad. It's cheap too. There are a few seats inside.

Amazing fresh sandwiches and baguettes

A small cafe/deli on newlyn street. We had a cornish beef pasty and coronation chicken sandwich. Pasty was quite amazing and sandwich was also freshly made. Reasonably priced as well. A good option to have if you want something other than fish and chips!! The folks at the shop were really pleasant.

Just wow, you won’t be disappointed!Worth every penny and great owners/staff. Not the first time I’ve fed my family from here and most certainly won’t be the last! Dogs are welcome if their owners are well behaved haha. Enjoy 😊

No trip to Cornwall would be complete without a traditional delicious pasty for lunch, preferably enjoys on a traditional Cornish harbour wall. So that is exactly what we did. We bought Pasty's to go from "Aunty May's Pasty Company" and took them a couple of miles up the road to Mousehole harbour. We had the 'Medium' Pasty's and they were still huge. Warm and delicious, these pasty's come highly recommended.

Aunty May's handmade, traditional, steak pasties are the real deal. Firm and full, their succulent filling is beautifully seasoned and their melt-in-mouth shortcrust pastry has an excellent flavour and crust texture. (Jane Grigson would surely have approved. Ditto my grandmother who was taught to make pasties by the wives of Cornish miners working in South Africa). The bakery has a small cafe for those wanting to eat-in. Service is delightful.

Super little Cafe in Newlyn. Filled rolls that are home baked, great coffee, pasties aren't bad either.
