Augustus in Taunton Deane

An absolutely divine evening! We were greated with a warm welcome at the door and promptly seated. The service was quick, and efficient but we did not at all feel rushed. The Turbot was sublime and the steak was the best had in a very long time. Desserts were heavenly and the bill was a pleasant surprise!! Definitely worth the money and will be back again soon x

We booked an early mothers day lunch attended by all the family. We were both warmly welcomed by the front of house team. We were given the choice of menus fixed price and a la cart or even a pick and mix from either. Both menus had some some great selections and needless to say we all made our various selections from both menus. We all enjoyed the starters, main course and chocolate puddings. All of which were perfect in every way, delicious to tatse and clean plates. A superb restaurant for those that know it and for those looking for something fesh I can only say you will not be disappointed. It is always best to book in advance if you want to secure a table. Give it a try if you enjoy good food. Thank you to the Augustus team for looking after us very well and to the chef and kitchen staff for a superb culinary experience to enjoy.

Extremely well thought out menus with excellently prepared food with some exquisite tastes.

This is a lovely place to eat, staff and service were great.

I eat here for lunch with my family. Had scallops, beef tartare Sirloin steak, sole & monkfish all were great. After a break we finished off with cheese, chocolate & treacle tart. The atmosphere and service are great. The Value for money is second to none. I drive 160 miles to eat here !!!

It was our 16th Wedding Anniversary. Cedric and Richard planned and delivered our amazing wedding breakfast whilst at the Castle Hotel all those years ago. We had the penthouse for a whole 24 hours. Wow, the food by Richard was 5* and the wine selected by Cedric was perfect. The food, wine and service at Augustus was amazing. Very welcoming, the waiting staff were lovely young men. Kind, attentive and well trained. They certainly knew their stuff! Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you all xx

The food was very average, the rack of lamb was completely undercooked the fat was like jelly, also it would have been nice to have been asked for my preference of their cooking. The partridge was tough, tasteless and very bloody, I don’t mind pink but bordering on raw no thank you. The sides were completely underwhelming. The service, two of the waiters actually seemed to care but the one who wore glasses gave an air of total boredom and I felt that if we didn’t enjoy our meal there were plenty more who want to book so if we didn’t return it was no hard ship to him. Very short sighted as people will run out of patience especially as the prices are very high. Scollops to start £15 for 3 of medium size, £32 for 3 undercooked flabby lamb chops I could go on but my birthday treat was sadly completely a waste of money.

Wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent and staff very attentive to guests. We were given delicious fresh hot crusty rolls with butter while awaiting our meals which were cooked perfectly. The salad with the starter was delicious, coated with what must be a restaurant prepared dressing and with the main meal the vegetables on the plate were particularly vibrant which makes the meal look extremely inviting even before you have tasted anything. Without requesting, the water jug was replenished as soon as it started to empty. Once a glass was empty and we had said we’re not ordering a second drink, it was discretely removed from the table. Just the small things that make a big difference to the dining experience. Even a small pot of sweetened roasted seeds to nibble while we waited. A lovely dining experience and we plan to go again.

Fabulous as always. We love Augustus. Everything is exemplary, we can never fault the food or the service or the atmosphere. Just perfect.

Staff were great and very accommodating, food was great and for a “fine dining” experience was reasonably priced and a nice place for a treat for my partners birthday.

A truly wonderful experience. They adapted their menu for me, which is rare these days. I miss out on a lot of occasions with family and friends because of my dietary requirements, but they couldn't have been more helpful. The food was delicious! Super friendly, great atmosphere, and excellent service. Everywhere was spotless. Highly recommend Augustus restaurant. It was my first visit, but it won't be my last!

Really delicious food, and good service. It is pricier than most places we go but worth the extra for a memorable meal. The steaks were first rate, but expensive, but they are very generously sized. If you're after one, think carefully about the need for a starter. The pattisserie for pudding was exceptional.

An excellent meal with great service. Top quality cooking with quality ingredients. Superbly presented food, including a delicious raclette bake with perfect salad accompaniment followed by a brilliant beef short rib. The cheese selection of English cheeses is remarkable and the best I have seen in any restaurant. A great night.

Booked on a whim and glad we did. We were both warmly welcomed by the front of house team. We were provided with a choice of tables. We decided to sit in the corner with the sun beaming in. :) We were given a choice of menus fixed price and a la cart. Both menus were really appetising but we both ended up a la cart. We both had scallops to start with which were perfectly cooked followed by the Veal which was succulent and melted in the mouth. This was accompanied by a nicely chilled Muscadet. The whole meal was topped off with a gorgeous Tart Tatin. Throughout the meal we were well looked after by the team. A gem of a restaurant for those that know it and for those looking for something fesh I can only say give it a try you have nothing to lose. Thank you to the Augustus team for looking after us very well and to the chef and kitchen staff for making this a culinary experience to enjoy.

Myself and my partner managed to get a short notice booking the day of Taunton carnival. Staff really accomodating, and venue beautifully tucked away in the centre of town. Food amazing quality and certainly not something you'd see on an everyday menu. Two starters, two mains and an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink came to less than £100... mind you we both probably had the most expensive dishes on the menu so really good value! We would definitely recommend the steak tartar, not only delicious but a really good portion size too! Will definitely visit again, and hopefully when neither of us are driving so we can both sample the amazing wine and port menu

A gem of a place.. been multiple times for lunch, dinner, special occasions, dinner with friends. Always reliable. Welcoming, attentive (but not suffocating) service, some of the best food we've had anywhere, reasonably priced for what is exceptional cooking and ingredients. Best cheese board ever!

This is an excellent place to dine out. Went for my wife's surprise Birthday and they could not have been more attentative and accomodating for us. The food was excellent and the value is second to none. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff, thank you.

From the moment you book you know it’s going to be good - the booking experience is extremely welcoming. And then you arrive on the night, nothing is too much trouble, the approach is always positive, the service superb and then the food arrives !!!! The flavours are phenomenal, just out of this world, I don’t know if the want a Michelin star but it’s a restaurant that truly deserves one. Thankyou Ps and priced reasonably in todays world !

Our first visit but definitely won't be our last. We had the £38 menu and it was superb. The lemon sole was absolutely perfect. The standard of service was exemplary which is a rare thing since covid. Many thanks to all at Augustus for a fabulous evening.

We tend to visit Taunton at least twice a year and this is the best restaurant in town. Fish is our thing so we enjoy good food cooked by Richard and looked after by Cedric, Maitre D

From your arrival to your departure this restaurant look after you. Warm, efficient service.Great food. Varied menu ,cooked expertly by richard and the team. The cheese board is one of the best in the South West.

Apparently full booked, when arrived with our dog, even though there were only 4 people eating at the time, and online booking were available, you're loss, as we found a great pub not far away, and had a great meal

Lovely food, good wine list, what's not to like.

Quite exceptional. When you walk in you are struck by the pleasant attractive interior and relaxed ambience straight away. The cooking and front of house service are both excellent. To take one dish, the John Dory fish on the set menu- beautifully seasoned and prepared....

Went there with my wife for 3 courses dinner in May. Great food, roasted duck and curried butter fish in particular were very nice and full of flavor. The atmosphere and decor was relaxing and cozy. All this came together with a attentive staff and service. Highly recommend! Would definitely recommend this restaurant especially for birthday celebrations :)

Quotes of the night included, "excellent seeds" and "meat up to my ankles". Augustus is a fantastic, elegant restaurant, hidden in the centre of Taunton. This is a high end eating establishment. The food was impeccable, but the service was above and beyond, from taking our coats to topping up our wine. The food though, it's only a small menu, but they do it well! I had the cheese soufflé which was incredibly creaming inside and cooked to pure perfection, followed by the steak. Now, I'm not really a steak kinda guy, but that steak was delicious, and the duck fat chips were the cherry on top! We didn't have pudding, but im sure that would of been top quality too. We did witness someone order cheese as an after dinner treat, and the selection was huge, and they bought it out on a tray to serve and slice for you. Please, do visit this fine place!

Went here for the first time today to celebrate our wedding anniversary! The food and the service was simply fantastic. The scallop’s simply melted in the mouth. And the sirloin steak was the best we’d ever had. All rounded off with panna cotta and rhubarb....

My partner found out about the restaurant today in the morning while she was researching fine dining around the area for a blog at work and she found Augustus and instantly booked a table there to take me. Very spontaneous visit and oh my god I am so glad she took me here. The place is gorgeous, the staff are courteous and very professional. Made us feel like royalty and from what I heard around, they made everybody feel like that which was amazing. Starters were delicious and the food was exceptional but the dessert was out of this world! Our waiters were nice and sparked a conversation asking about us and whether it was our first time here. I am amazed I never heard anything about Augustus until today. After the dinner I said to my partner that this place should have a Michelin Star, which I found out after leaving the door that it does. I was also gobsmacked that we spent so little as I always thought if I ever was to eat at a Mitchelin Star restaurant I would cost and arm and a leg. Thank you very much to everybody, the staff and hats off to the Chef for this experience. Will be visiting again.

Excellent as always, there simply is nowhere better to eat in taunton. Perfect food, perfect drink, perfect service. Tonight was the the sirloin steak - I'm a pretty decent home cook and wine addict, but there's just nothing I've found that can match Richard's cooking, or Cedric's choice of wine. Thank you again!

Just held my Mums 60th birthday celebrations at Augustus and wanted to thank them for being exceptional. They catered for 16 of us and the food, service and setting were all amazing. They were incredibly kind and attentive during the booking process and during the lunch service. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and they went above and beyond to make it special.
