Atkinson's Fish & Chip Restaurant in Lancaster

Purchased two fish, large chips, peas, curry and tarter sauce. price £21.30. Chips barely warm, hard thick batter on fish, horrible, as for curry and peas, tiny containers not even full, very disappointed

An institution. A must visit for the number one traditional food. Amazing Fish and Chips. Cooked fresh to order. Prompt friendly service. Always popular when I have visited.

Took my family out for lunch here. We had plenty of food, great conversation atmosphere, and the staff was extremely pleasant.

Best arround Morecambe better to eat in.

We visited for takeaway fish and chips and were not disappointed. It's a shame prices have gone up so much but the business has obviously tried hard to keep costs down for customers so it's not their fault. Everything was cooked fresh to order, the only problem is the waiting area isn't very big and when busy becomes quite crowded, but that didn't affect the friendliness of the staff. The food was delicious, stayed warm and was not soggy or over greasy. We would definitely return next time we are in Morecambe.

Absolutely delicious chips here. Really recommend if you just want some chips as it was a substantial portion.

Just ate fish, chips and peas here with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely interior decor, spotlessly clean and service was great. Fish was massive and everything cooked to great standard. We got here 4.30 as it opened and queue was down the street. Always a good sign

Not happy with quality of produce, Ordered chips ( they was stale dry), sausage ( rock hard lol been left in the dryer too long). Chips £3.30 Sausage £2.40 Small peas and curry £1.50 each. Total £8.70. Not great value if you ask me, dinner went in the bin. Shame because the workers know what their serving the customers. Cheeky really!!!

The fish was soggy when I got it not dobe fresh at all poor service of the staff would not recommend they say they are cooked fresh there was one in the warmer whist I was there the whole time I probably got that one very bad the price of a fish n chip dinner these days very un acceptable an apology does not change the fact that our whole treat was ruined by you.

Nice place, good service and good fish and chips

This is the second time we've had fish and chips they were discusting a waste of money we never learn we still go back this is the fourth and last. The chips were not fresh they were warmed up my partner said the fish was nice but what is the point complaining because they don't listen. I will give them 1 star for everything The staff are not to mad but they want to learn to do fresh chips not warmed up from dinner time or last nights We are both discusting.

We are from Mansfield, and we were all feeling cold & hungry after the Morecambe V Mansfield Town match,so we decided to have some hot Fish & Chips by the Seaside.Atkinsons was the first Chippy we noticed open on our way back, so decided to eat from there. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. The batter & Haddock was excellent and tasted fantastic. The chips were spot on as well. 😎👍

Overpriced rubbish. Meant to be the best chippy in Morecambe. £7 for a measly portion of cheese chips and gravy? Have you a chip shortage? You’re a chippy

Fish and chips at Atkinsons are usually very good, however yesterday tea time I bought 2 mini fish chips, to take away. It wasn't over busy, the fish was freshly cooked and as always really good, but the chips had obviously been sat a while and were luke warm. This is easily solved......

What can I say best Chippy around and best Fish &Chips and every thing is brilliant concerning this Restaurant in Morecambe staff brilliant and the cleanliness in all aspects of the restaurant 100%. Highly recommended Jock

Mini fish, chips and peas to take away and eat on the sea front. Great.

Was on our way to the Lake District. But had a stop and a look around Morecambe. Nice chips and it is nice and to know that there is a board on where the fish is from, where the Potatoes are from and what the potato type it is. I liked that there is dine in and take out.

Great food, good portions with friendly staff. Sit in bit was fresh and tidy with a goody bag given to my granddaughter and a wordsearch and pencil. She was delighted and also ate everything in her plate. We will return.

Best fish and chips I think I've had.

I had evening meals at Atkinson's on most evenings during my stay at Morecambe recently. The food was excellent and staff friendly and welcoming. A very good experience.

Really tasty jumbo sausage and chips takeaway had from here a few nights ago, good portion size & value too. Highly recommended & will visit again. Many thanks to all the staff

Ordered large chips. Carton wasnt full, and wouldnt call it a large portion.

A bit disappointed on this visit. Takeaway fishcake and chips with curry sauce. All good except for the chips. A bit pasty looking with quite a few having black bits in them☹️

Drove up from Clitheroe to spiritually visit my mother's ashes which were sprinkled into the bay many years ago. Morecambe was her favourite place back in the day. Googled for a good chippy and ended up at Atkinsons, delicious haddock and chips with curry sauce. Fish was snowy white, always a good sign, perfect chips and tasty curry sauce. Price was a little high, but portion size was generous, service was polite and helpful. Highly recommended. Pity odd reviews were quite vindictive. Before you offer a review be honest, and helpfully critical. Personal gripes can undermine businesses and cost jobs! My experience was very good.

First time to Morecombe and thought I'd try seaside fish and chips. Some of the best I've had! The fish was delicious. Served with a friendly smile too. I'd recommend this place

Menu limited Food good but pricey

Sadly only a 3 star rating. I have been a customer for many years and since covid restrictions have lifted I have seen a dramatic increase in prices, with a reduction in quantity. Such a shame as the food is to a good standard. No longer worthwhile me travelling here as I do, I am now on the lookout for an alternative. UPDATE 08/10/2023 - I OFFERED MY REVIEW ABOVE 2 MONTHS AGO AND DISAPPOINTINGLY RECEIVED A SOMEWHAT UNEXPECTED RESPONSE FROM ATKINSONS. TO THOSE OF YOU LIKE ME, WHO ARE UNHAPPY WITH THEIR SERVICE, HERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE: WESTGATE CHIP SHOP, MORECAMBE....WHO INCIDENTALLY, HAVE JUST BECOME FINALISTS FOR BEST CHIP SHOP TAKEAWAY NATIONALLY... GIVE THEM A TRY.

Ok. Am afraid to say average, staff lovely, very nice for pensioners lunch, that was a brilliant price, can't fault that.. but the batter on the fish let it down, soggy, and the chips were hard a little over cooked. Need to do better for visitors.😏

We had the pleasure of ordering from this place whilst holidaying at ParkDean ocean edge (worst place on earth!) We were advised to use just eat, which I did and asked them to call them on the way so I could meet them. (Probably my favourite part of the holiday.) *The food was fabulous!* The fish and chips were perfectly cooked. I personally don't think they were expensive... You pay for quality and service which was certainly delivered!! Thank you for accepting our order and to the delivery guy for meeting me.

The best fish I have had in a very long time. Super fresh and large portion of haddock We had the senior citizens meal deal what a tremendous bargain. The lady serving us was exceptionally nice. Efficient, helpful and extremely friendly. The only bugbear please, please do something about the ladies toilet it let your establishment down! A coat of paint and a good clean would do wonders for it.

Lovely fish and chips - fairly priced and decent portion sizes. Took a while to get served but appreciate it was a sunny Sunday evening.

Whist the fish and chips here are I. The better side of average, the owners seme to be cashing in on the cost of living crisis to the best of their ability a large chips has gone from being about £3.20 6 weeks ago to £3.50 until 24 hours ago, now up to £3.90! I don't suppose the owner will read this or even care but I hope there customers will and vote with there feet as I'm sure potatoes are in plentiful supply!!!!

Short version: By far the best fish and chips you'll ever have. Long version: Ordered 2x haddock and chips for my wife and I, which were cooked fresh to order. There was a slight wait because the place was busy and due to the fresh cooking, but that's a positive. If a place is that popular, it must be good. It's also worth the wait as these were by far the best fish chips I've ever tasted. The fish and chips were served in separate containers which being a southerner used to everything thrown into paper, was initially confusing until I realised why. This ensured that the batter on the fish remained perfectly crispy unaffected by the steam from the chips. Both the fish and chips had the perfect amount of salt and vinegar. The chips were crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. The star of the show however was the perfectly fresh haddock. The batter was light, crisp and remarkably non greasy. The fish itself was so fresh and perfectly cooked. Both the source of the potatoes and fish were clearly displayed on boards. There was also a good range of other menu items available. Despite how busy the staff were, they were extremely polite and helpful. Smiling and cheerful and non flustered. We took our takeaway down to the seafront and let Eric keep an eye on the seagulls which were remarkably well behaved. Nothing better than a fish and chip supper on Morecambe sea front, although 22° at 7.30pm was an unexpected bonus. But I'd gladly have sat and eaten them in the midst of winter in driving wind and rain they were that good. I'd seriously consider driving the 4 hours north just to have these again. However, I'm lucky to have family in the area so I will be visiting again!

Really good place to visit. Four of us went for lunch and we all really enjoyed it. Fish, chips and mushy peas with a coffee for me, delicious. Excellent food, friendly and efficient staff and the cafe itself is clean and bright. Highly recommended and dog friendly too.

Possibly the best chips I have ever eaten. Despite its location, the fact it was very busy was a good sign. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to eat in so I had to settle for chips and a battered sausage. Both were delicious but the chips were extraordinarily good.

Stopped in for a holiday treat. As a Scot I have *high* expectations of fish and chips, and living down south these expectations are too often dashed. Not here though - very reassuring start to have a board on the wall which tells you where the haddock was caught, and by which boat. Very high quality fish, crisp delicious batter, brilliant chips and proper marrowfat mushy peas. Would leave six stars if we could.

A great dine in or take out chippy. The haddock was fresh and succullent with all the trappings. Delicious! Just off the sea front, so easy to get a walk on the beach to walk off the feast!

Have seen a few bad reviews. We visited last year on our way north, and came back today. The staff were lovely and found space for us even though we arrived at closing time. The fish had lovely crispy batter, and was very nice indeed. Chips were great, and the peas were superb. Just as good as last year. Love the place.

Probably the worst chippy I've been to in a long time.. got home chips where still white sausage was freezing cold I only live 2 mins away.. ask for no salt or vinegar on the kids chips and halloumi... I'll not be back and ill not recommend this to anybody....

Definitely worth searching out this fantastic eat-in gem. Friendly welcome, speedy service and no problem with a request for a small portion of haddock and chips - tea and bread were included in my OAP special, even though I'm a bit young for that! Generous portion of deep-fried halloumi was succulent. Highly recommend.

A true sit down chippy all freshly prepared good quality and portion size .Well worth a visit.

Just had Large haddock small chips and large mushy peas. In 63 years of life got to be ranking as one of the best if not the best fish and chips ever.

Sadly no large Haddock, but everything we had was excellent. It was way too hot in the dining room, but the air-conditioning unit in the ceiling wasn't turned on!

Followed tripadvisor ratings to this place on a random day out to Morecambe and wasn’t disappointed. Huge portions of quality haddock and chips in a very fresh and clean environment. The staff were really friendly too. Extra points for the brilliant air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year, very welcome

Absolutely shocking price for very mediocre fish. Been going there for years but not so much for the past few years. £19 for 2 regular fish, 1 large chips and a small curry sauce. The fish was very thin and small too, the majority of it was overcooked where it was thin as well. I realise prices have risen but that was shocking. Won't be back!!!!

We called in for 2 portions of chips to take out. Queue ahead of us but not too long to wait. The chips were warm, not hot, and soggy. Had a few and binned the rest.

Fantastic traditional chippy, the curry was up there with the nicest I've had. The only reason for the 4 stars is due to the price. A little expensive for what it is. It may be cheaper if your not sitting in, not sure on that point. Will still go again next time we're visiting the area.

I had the vegan veggie burger and it was fantastic.

We have been customers for a number of years, and have recommended to anyone who would listen! Recently our visits have decreased due to the big increase in prices. However, today we called in for a post-match treat, sharing a fish and large portion of chips between 2 of us. The size of the fish was very poor, much smaller than usual! Very disappointed.

Excellent freshly-cooked fish and chips for my Dad and my husband, and a welcoming atmosphere. Although my options were limited due to requiring gluten free food, I really enjoyed a very generous portion of chips. And the friendly staff who served us were happy for me to eat the gluten free bap that I'd taken with me - thank you. Still good value for money, which is important right now. I love visiting Atkinson's - just wish that we lived closer, so that we could go there more often! Thank you for another excellent meal xx 😋
