Aspendos Restaurant in Shepway

We first visited this restaurant last November the night before we traveled to Mainland Europe. We hadn’t made a reservation but the gentleman did let us have a table until the people who had actually reserved it arrived. This year however I made a booking :-)))) And boy we weren’t disappointed just as good as last year!!! And the portions are still as huge as last year, I’ve made a mental note to self not to both have starters next year :-)))) and share one. Again I’d recommend anyone thinking of going to this restaurant BOOK ahead of time to avoid a big disappointment.

As we travel around Europe we sample all cuisine This restaurant is up there with the very best as it was Brilliant with fresh food with exceptional service. Highly recommended

Very nice posh kebabs with all the trimmings, all 4 meals were presented nicely the portions were huge and the food really nice and tasty , service was friendly and attentive checking if our meals were ok and if we would like more drinks ect , would definitely recommend

I happened on this resto in a parade of shops. Blisteringly hot day and there could be no better refuge. Charming maitre d who didn't mind a sole launcher. I chose the mixed kebab which was served with rice, wheat and a terrific salad. The resto gives you it's with tzatziki. Actually for what it is faultless with food and service. Despite bring full there was no rush to turf me away. Of course I'll return but will need someone to share the food with.

Poor service tonight, had to wait 45 mins for food to arrive, no peppers or tomatoes with the mix grill. Chicken wings slightly pink which I don’t like. No one asking if we wanted more drinks during our visit. All very disappointing.

We have been visiting this restaurant once or twice a year during our trips across the Channel for many years in the past, and I'm pleased to say it's still excellent. Large portions of really well prepared and tasty food, lovely friendly staff. I look forward to our next visit.

I had the Sarma Beyti. Firstly. The portion sizes are ridiculously large. The sauce was ok, but the chicken was so dry the sauce could not make it edible. I ate less than a quarter of my meal. My partner had kofta chips and salad. This was also so dry that even with the salad and lots of mayonnaise he was not able to eat it. One of the waiters saw we had not eaten much and asked if everything was ok. We explained how dry it was. He said he would inform the kitchen and took our plates away. The manager (maybe) apologised. However when the bill came they did reduce it but still charged us 2/3. They said as we had eaten half which we had not, they would not take any more off. £20 for some frozen chips, some dry kebab and salad is ridiculously expensive to start with. Maybe they should focus on quality rather than volume of food. We will definitely never eat here again.

Lovely Turkish restaurant with lovely food and nice ambiance service was very quick and the food delicious. Portion sizes were also very good as was the price

First food was plentiful and really good quality staff friendly and restaurant was very clean and well presented, hadn’t realised at the time but this morning my wife checked the bill to find out we had been charged for 2 drinks we never had, if this hadn’t happened I would give a 5* , however if this happened to us when only had 1 alcoholic drink what could happen across the to many every night.

Excellent Turkish experience in the uk…the food was authentic.the ambience was very much Turkish with arabesque music .the Adana kofte was delicious …I enjoyed also efes but sadly they didn’t have ayran

First off the positives. Nice restaurant decor, ambience and high standard of cleanliness. You can see the chefs working as you eat. The staff are well presented & attentive. The menu is well conceived & varied. Food wise the standard is generally good, except for the rice! Good portions of well prepared grilled meats and salads are good. Sadly these chefs cannot cook rice to save their lives! They need lessons badly. Worst rice, ever, in any restaurant, ever! We had to leave it - totally inedible! Although 3 other members of the family enjoyed Shish grilled meats all very nice my Kleftiko was a disaster; not cooked long enough or slow enough for it to drop off the bone! It was undercooked & tough from speed cooking. Not a restaurant we would try again simply because we like & know our rice and these guys haven’t a clue! They need ourside help!

Amazing food , service and ambience . We literally found this place and it will definitely be going again . The food was just perfect.. everything was fresh , tasty and well presented . The staff were friendly and quick is an understatement ! Can’t wait to go again .

Aspendos used to be our absolutely favourite however we've just got a takeaway and unfortunately it has become apparent that they just do not cater for veges anymore. I'm a meat eater so for me it is good value for money for what you get- Alot (hence 3*). The vegetarian meal of falafel as a main was pitiful tbh. What disappoints me is I had specifically phoned the restaurant and was told that the falafel main came with rice bread and salad and everything would be separate from the meat meal also being ordered but there was only one portion of everything and the rice was in with the meat. I wouldn't mind if we had ordered blind but we hadn't I had rang the restaurant but was told false information. I fear aspendos have lost a regular customer with us!

What a lovely place! Friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere and utterly fantastic food! We had a group of 15 and on starters and mains, not a single negative comment! Thank you for making this a really fantastic evening! Highly recommend!

I was staying nearby last week and decided to order a takeaway from here after reading the great reviews. Wow, the food was absolutely sensational. Probably the best Turkish food I’ve eaten in the UK. Delivery was within the said time and the food was delivered super hot. Salad, dips and breads were complimentary and my main meal of mixed kebab special was delicious. If I’m back in the area this place will be top of my list to visit. Superb!

We got the mixed kebab grill and a cold meze delivery. It was all incredible and due to portion sizes it did us for 2 meals. Baklava was also incredible.

Our first time of trying this little delight, we will definitely be returning. Obviously take away at present, but that didn’t stop the presentation or taste of our meals. Thoroughly recommend the chicken shish with yoghurt meal, comes with rice, bulger wheat, salad, delicious bread and chilli & garlic sauce. Hubby had chicken shish kebab with the same accompaniments. Another lockdown take away, liver, Turkish sausage, prawns and a family special, which came with the yummy bread, salad and chilli and garlic sauce. Polite, friendly member of staff answered the phone when phoned the order through, delivered very quickly by another polite, friendly member of staff. Food was piping hot, it was all just as delicious as it is in the Restaurant and was enjoyed by everyone.Miss the atmosphere of eating in the Restaurant and the polite, friendly, helpful staff, but hopefully it won't be long before we can be back enjoying all Aspendos Restaurant has to offer.

Favourite Restaurant in Folkestone, but due to lockdown ordered a Take-Away. Delivered by a lovely friendly delivery driver, food was piping hot and every bit as good as eating in the Restaurant. However missed the lovely, friendly, attentive staff in the Restaurant!!!Will be back to eat in as soon as we are allowed.

Second visit to Aspendos, last visited October 2019 while on a previous trip to Folkestone . It was even better. The restaurant we had booked for our meal turned out to be not what we had hoped for so rang Aspendos on the off chance they could fit us in and despite them being very busy we got a table.The restaurant was warm,welcoming and had good atmosphere.Despite them being very busy all the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent,the portions very generous ,so much so i couldnt finish my main course. We enjoyed salmon and sea bream both of which were delicious. We had a chat with the manager who was obviously very proud of his staff and the restaurant.It was our wedding anniversary and Aspendos helped make it a lovely evening,thank you. Booking advisable here as it was very popular.

Yet another perfect meal at Aspendos Folkestone. Service was as excellent as usual, food delicious as usual, all staff polite and friendly as usual. The restaurant was quite busy for mid-week, but good social distancing in place and all staff were wearing masks. Perfect evening

Only reviewing on a delivery but can not fault the quality of ingredients, portion size or speed of delivery.

Highly recommended for everything except furnishings and decor. Great location, excellent service, outstanding food in huge portions. Sadly the furnishings and decor are dated and ‘tacky’. On first seeing the glass table tops we thought about leaving as they look so grimy - they urgently need cleaning on both sides.

We visited Aspendos on a busy Saturday night and was lucky to squeeze in to this popular Folkestone establishment. The staff were hospitable and friendly throughout. The main selling point of this restaurant was the amazing quality of the food, and the abundance of food on the plate. It seems as though Aspendos did both quality and quantity at the same time. We opted for a cold meze tray to share between two and an iskender kebab and a kleftiko for main but honestly would have been able to share one main for our entire meal (and we're generally big eaters). There's nothing I could possibly say to fault the food which was superior to some meals tasted in Turkey itself. A definite recommendation for anyone interested in tasty food.

We enjoyed a light lunch at Aspendos Restaurant. The menu was extensive, and included a special lunchtime deal - two courses for £10.95 - which seemed very good value for money. We opted for a single starter mezze dish each - falafels and humus for my partner, prawns in spicy tomato sauce for me, accompanied by side orders of chips. The food was delicious - fresh and tasty and well-presented, and satisfying too. Bill for this lovely lunch - including a coke and a beer was just under £20. Spacious outdoor seating area. The restaurant was clean - particularly the toilets, which featured disposable paper towels. There were also hand sanitising stations in the toilets and the restaurant interior.

Food was plentiful and tasty. Service was pitiful and terrible. If you like your evening out with a side order of indifference, then this is the place for you. Shame really!

Staff have no respect for people living above the restaurant. They gather out the rear to smoke etc. and don’t just talk but shout!, Very noisy and a nuisance especially later at night. Terrible, bring back The View!

Spent a lovely evening with my nieces Tammy and Rachel. This had been a special day celebrating the life of my brother, nine years after his death. We had revisited Sandgate and spent the evening in this restaurant. Staff very flexible about meal choice, sharing dishes. Don’t often leave negative reviews but feel driven to on this occasion. Food was ok but not great. Service - one waiter very kind, the other rather dismissive and unhelpful. Big table of extended family with uncontrolled screaming kids. And then at the end I get a bill twice what I expected on a Tuesday. “Are you not passing on any of the post-lockdown discount provided by the government?” I asked. “No, we don’t need to because we are so busy anyway”, she smugly replied. Hmm, because they are so greedy, in that case!I will make a point of not going there or recommending them again.

I don’t like to leave reviews that are negative but I felt disappointed overall with this restaurant last night. Had friends visiting, looking to sit outside as just out of shielding. Tables- no spacing, not cleaned well, still sticky from people that just left, quickest wipe over ever. Food overpriced for what it was. Quality not as good as last time, a lot had to be left. Very long wait. Friendly host but will not be going again and gutted for friends visiting. Don’t know if this has gone downhill since lockdown but need to step up all round really. Was debating between 2 and 3 stars.

We use the Dover restaurant normally our 1st visit to the Folkestone restaurant was equally as good, food plentiful great service as usual we'll be back. Cannot wait for the Restaurant in Deal to open

Having previously visited the restaurant of same name in Dover I looked forward to this one. Out of the two I'd chose Dover but, nice outside seating, prompt service and nice food. Nice size portions!

Ordered a takeaway from here last night for the family on our weekend visit to Folkestone. We got the Apendos Special and it did not disappoint! My absolute fave were the pork chops... tener meat, perefectly seasonsed and tasted great. I even used the bread to polish off the greattasting broth at the bottom of the tray of meat. Delivery came very quickly for a Saturday and I will would defninitely order again!

Friendly staff and the food was tasty. Only awarded two stars as the staff did not wear face coverings or observe social distancing which is a shame when the food was tasty. The portions are large so you may want to be aware of that when ordering.

Aspendos, where to start. Now being as this was a takeaway meal you always tend to think it may be ever so slightly less in quality. You’d be wrong. I’ve eaten at several Turkish establishments around Folkestone, Aspendos is head and shoulders above the rest, delivery was speedy and the food is exceptional. We had the Aspendos Special and it is just fantastic. The meat is perfect, I’ve found with some shish kebabs it’s slightly tough around the edge of the meat. This was spot on. The ribs, wings, kofte everything was amazing. The salad and bread were a great partner not to mention lahmacun that was wonderful with the chilli and garlic pots of sauce. To top it of we were given a tub of Bulgar which was cooked to perfection. If you eat at one place in Folkestone then head for Aspendos it will not let you down.

Well what a find. A late night drive fromMaidstone to the coast and we find you guys. We ordered a take away, waited in the car, the food was brought to the car. Wow!! Just amazing. We ordered two chicken and lamb combo kebabs. We were only able to eat one between us so have the delight of the rest tomorrow. The meat was so tasty and lean. A massive salad. Two rices. Sauces and an abundance of hot fresh bread. We will most definitely be back. What a find thank you

Been using this restaurant for great food since I moved to Folkestone, always been given the best service by the friendly staff. I decided to give the takeaway service a try two nights ago (which was lovely), just sad to see the young lady with the dark hair, that usually takes my order wasn’t in. Not too sure if she’s not working due to the coronavirus as I didn’t ask, but hoping she’s back whenever the restaurants re open! Can’t wait for a lovely meal and great service one again from the aspendos team, highly recommend this restaurant, best one in Folkestone!

We were so excited to hear that Aspendos in Folkestone had started delivering during 'lockdown'. They really delivered on quality and presentation, similar to that of when you eat in the restaurant. We ordered starters (falafel, prawn cocktail) and mains (lamb shish×2) and were thoroughly stuffed, there was so much to go round, I enjoyed some for lunch the following day!

Regularly visit this restaurant and also order take out cannot fault owners and staff always so friendly and welcoming. Food is brilliant and excellent service always a happy face to welcome you

We were a little nervous when our son suggested we go for a meal at Aspendos, never having been to a Turkish Restaurant before. We should not have worried. The food, the service and whole atmosphere was just fantastic. We degfinately go again next time we are down there.

Ideal Family friendly restaurant. Delicious choice of starters hot or cold the kids love their hummus and Tarama they are friendly lovely sea view and no once complains if kids have fun. Highly recomended

We were staying in Folkestone for the weekend, and booked a table here. What can I say but amazing! The food was absolutely delicious. I don't normally like olives but these, along with the cucumber, mint and yogurt dip, and falafel starter were amazing. The main course was massive, and I couldn't eat all of it, there was so much. Lovely flavours in the meat, I had the combination chicken and kofte kebab, and the rice and salad were great too. The staff were very friendly and we will definitely be visiting again. The Turkish delight was very tasty too!

Went for dinner last Friday evening very warm welcome from the staff choice if tables chose window seat.My partner and I both chose a Mousaka and were brought flat breads olives and raata while we waited for it.Was beautifully cooked and presented.Portions were massive and we took what we eat away.Exceptional value very highly recommended.

Couldn't fault the starters, flat bread and olives and salad. Quite a few of us had chicken shish, I had to send mine back as the chicken was still raw, they offered to replace my meal, it arrived after my group of friends had finished. One other persons chicken was raw. The replacement came, still some pieces were raw. No apologies or refund. I normally rate the restaurant highly but unfortunately the service and lack of empathy let them down. Especially after 2 servings were raw.

I visited this restaurant with my friends to try some Turkish Dishes, Absolutely great taste everything seemed so fresh n yummy. Staff were very respectful throughout. If you guys are looking to hop in I’m sure you will 100% enjoy. Happy days.

Second visit a good few months after the first. First visit was with family on a summer's evening. This visit was a winter Sunday lunch. We were given a warm welcome by a pleasant young lady. We conservatively ordered the platter for 2/3 which we had on the previous visit. We avoided a starter as we knew the platter was substantial. Whist we waited we were bought tzatziki, olives and pitta bread. We hadn't eaten all by the time our platter arrived. Just as large and good as our first visit. I wish I knew how they got such beautiful flavours into the wonderful selections of char-grilled meats. Should you enjoy eastern Mediterranean food I cannot recommend this restaurant enough for quality of service and food.
