My wife and I attended this restaurant with some friends last night. The level of service displayed by Faye and Zsusanna was second to none. We were greeted beautifully on arrival, taken to our table and had our drinks order taken almost immediately to which they were delivered to us promptly. We then ordered our food and yet again Faye was extremely helpful when it came to recommendations. The standard of food we received was exceptional, we certainly left this amazing restaurant impressed and quite replete. I couldn’t recommended this restaurant enough, thank you once again to faye and the team and we will re visit again soon.

A menu that attempts to appeal to most tastes underpins the success of this restaurant chain.I decided to try one of the new menu items, and was certainly not disappointed with the delicious pea and ricotta soufflé. I followed this with the equally good Pollo Milanese, an impressive sounding name for breaded chicken, broccoli and fried baby potatoes..The wine was good value at £6.95 for 250ml of a good Merlot. All the staff were very helpful and well trained. Deserving of my 5* rating

A rare date night with my hubby. Took a while to get seated but we had a nice table when we did. We chose the super festivo menu for £24.95. I chose the prawns for starter which were very nice. I then had the spinach and ricotta pasta which again very nice. The desert really was a let down. A toffee sauce is poured over a dark chocolate cup at your table, revealing a hidden scoop of vanilla gelato on top of a heavenly hot chocolate fondant. The sauce was too thick and the sauce didn't melt the chocolate cup as described by the waitress. It wasnt worth paying the extra £1.50The glass of processco was very nice and the shot of limoncello at the end was nice. However we had to remind them that it was part of the package that we had picked. It really wasnt that busy. A nice meal but not one I would race back to.

I went with a friend for early dinner about 4ish on a Thursday. We decided to sit outside in the patio area. It had a lovely feel and always nice to dine alfresco. Service was quick and lovely waitress who was actually Italian, which was nice to hear her say the names of the dishes authentically. We both went for the pancetta salad which was fresh and tasted delicious. I would definitely order it again. We chose the lemon meringue with raspberry sorbet for dessert. The sorbet was lovely, I enjoyed the chocolate tart base and the lemon filling but wasn't keen on the merengue topping, it was more like sticky marshmallow which was disappointing. I've had the olive oil and pistachio cake before which was great so I'd be inclined to order that it something else next time. The merengue was a definite thumbs down even though it looked pretty on the plate. The WiFi kept dropping out so I paid in cash. They had pea seeds at the till point to take home and grow which I thought was a cute touch, so helped myself to a couple of packs. Overall it was a nice visit even with the points I've made. I will go back

Stopped by for dinner with friends and family. Restaurant nicely laid out, although the service was just average. Meals weren't served all together, giving the impression that one had been forgotten at the pass, and eventually arrived without any explanation or apology. The food was nice, but drinks proved difficult to obtain and the waitress had to be reminded of the order. I hadn't been to this restaurant for quite some time, and it may be a while before I return.

We should have known that, when a restaurant is one of a large chain, the dining experience will not be as good as a restaurant where the owner is the chef or the maitre d’. We booked a table for three, on line, for dinner at 7.30pm. When we arrived there were many tables free. The decor is anything but Italian. Renovated farmhouse mixed with school gymnasium is what I would call it. Hard walls, hard floor, hard ceilings and therefor very noisy. Add not one but two hen-parties at nearby tables and it was difficult to hold a conversation.

Lovely restaurant, I can't believe I've not been here before. Much nicer than the one at the Leisure Park. I pick Ask in the Old Town from now on. Really lovely and much bigger inside than I expected with different seating choices. There's cafe style dining as you walk in, then to the right passed the open fire place there's a more vintage pub feel, then passed the bar up into the conservatory there's booths to sit in and a more contemporary feel with a lovely view out into the steering area in the garden. The service was excellent, polite and friendly. The food was delicious, we both had the Asparagus Carbonara followed by the Etna pudding and I would recommend both. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and is airy, spacious and clean. It would be a great place for large party or intimate dining. Very impressed and I would definitely eat here again.

The Ask Italian in Stevenage Old Town is in a beautiful old pub building in a beautiful old high street. Parking in the high street is free for 3 hours! The interior of the restaurant has exposed beams and brickwork and a large modern conservatory/orangery at the back. The garden with additional tables looks well tended too. I chose the chicken caesar salad and my wife had the Vedure pizza which were both very enjoyable. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient and the chef even waved us goodbye as we left. It was a very pleasant lunch on a lovely sunny day. When in the high street it takes just a few minutes to forget that you are in the middle of a sixties new town with the grid style dual carriageways intersected with roundabouts and a bit of a shock to leave the highstreet and go back in to the sixties environment. Well worth a visit and a time warp.

We have eaten here many many times. Usually I would give a five star review, but unfortunately our last visit was quite disappointing. The food was excellent, but the service let it down. After we had finished our starters and mains, we asked for a dessert menu. After waiting for quite a while, we managed to catch the eye of a waitress and asked again, and she brought the menu over straight away. We made our choices and waited. And waited. And waited, well you get the picture. We eventually decided to cut our losses and went to the counter to pay (we didnt know how long we would need to wait for the bill to arrive) When we complained about the wait we were told that they were very busy, lots of people had come in at once. Now, whilst that might be the case, there were still empty tables, so not at full capacity, and to be honest, it doesnt matter to me how busy they are, thats not my problem, I am already half way through my meal and would have liked to have finished with a dessert and coffee. Its called customer service. Although I am sure we will return at some point, we wont be rushing back. Disappointing.

Eaten here twice now over the last couple of months and the food and service were great on both occasions. Not high end or amazingly special, but you don't go to a chain Italian restaurant for that! Both meals were on Sunday's so the place wasn't rammed. In fact the first time I wondered if was even open as couldn't see any diners through the windows. But this is because most people choose to sit at the rear of the restaurant where they have a glass roofed conservatory area with booths, or if its nice you can sit outside in the courtyard.I like the current menu, it has plenty of veggie options for me and the portions seem very good. First time with starters and mains I was too full for a pudding whereas the second time we actually went and bought ice creams elsewhere for the walk home.No doubt, we'll be back again.

It had been more than a year since we'd been to Ask together, it was Sunday lunchtime and we had nothing in so...So we wished we hadn't really. Despite a delightful young lady (are you allowed to say that these days, I can't keep up.?), serving us unfortunately the food wasn't really very good at all.Our starters were ok, burrata with tomatoes and salad, rather uninspiring and in need of a touch of sweetness and some vegetarian croquettes with a spicy dip which were much nicer.Mains were a let down really; my wife had the pork belly - which was a little too fatty and I had the chicken escalope which tasted of nothing. We also ordered a side of zuchinne fritte which were ridiculously over battered and looked like fat chips instead of the thin, flour fried deliciousness I've had many times elsewhere. I couldn't eat them.Times are hard for many in Stevenage High St, there's a lot of new players offering excellent food these days so you need to up your game or lose out. Unfortunately, Ask is currently opting for the latter.

Table for 5 (pre-booked) , Sunday Lunch for a Birthday treat.Very few diners.Staff welcoming, polite and friendly.Typical menu of Pizzas, Calzones, together with a small selection of other mains.Food was well presented, a mixed bag though. Calamari was finely shredded, very small portion and , in my opinion , overpriced. Garlic Butterfly Prawns were plentiful and good value. Croquettes were also well received.Mains were all well liked (Pizza, Calzone and Pork Belly) although the pork belly was a little anaemic.Desserts looked the part but I think they must have run out of crispy biscuits as one dessert had only half biscuits (not whole ones as the other Dessert had).Overall a pleasant lunch but would not rush back. Too many little things wrong and definitely over priced. Not good value

Came in for lunch and there was a blonde manager who seated us. From the start she seemed rude and like she did not want to be there..then while we were waiting for our drinks order to be taken she was behind the bar on her phone. She caught our eye then sent someone over to get our order. Food was good but no check back and the lack of manager presence was clearly shown as everyone working seemed to just prefer to have a chat and joke around rather than actually doing any work. A restaurant isnt just made of good food. You have to have service to match and with management like this it's not somewhere id be returning

We use this restaurant regularly and I normally order pizza. On the last occasion I ordered lasagna. Now if there is one thing that an Italian restaurant should be able to do well it should be this - how wrong I was.It did not contain layers, the cheese had no flavour and the meat was fatty. it was clearly a mass-produced frozen product rather than a proper restaurant-cooked product. Frankly, I could have saved myself £8 or so by buying a microwave Lasagna from the supermarket and had a better quality product. So do not order the lasagna! Stick with something they actually have to cook freshly.

The family took their Mum to Ask Italian Restaurant in Stevenage Old Town, to celebrate their Mother being completely cleared of Breast Cancer after 5 years. We went fairly early in the evening, and the restaurant was not to busy at that time.We had a Family party of 11.Our waiter was ‘Romana’ who was very helpful, happy and smiling. (Always a good sign)She brought up the drinks first while we pondered on the meals. We all chose different meals in including the kids, but they were not that long after ordering in arriving with the help of other staff as well as Romani. The food was very good and most of us cleared our plates. Then we more drink along with some deserts. One thing I did notice, that the table were at which is to the Cooking and serving area, is of one piece, one solid wooden table, which the first I have seen in a very long time.Better than somewhere one has tables put together to make one long one and they are not all the same height or wobble a lot.Anyway we had a great time in celebrating their MotherAnd sure we will be back to visit again. Thanks ‘Romana’ and the other staff including the Chef’sCapt.Harry

Came in early this evening for a meal with 5 colleagues and was not only impressed by the cool decor but by the attentive waitress who waited on us. Complimentary homemade lemonade to quench our taste buds as we looked over the menu.. drinks quickly brought over; and once the meal was served not a peep out of anyone as we enjoyed our food it literally silenced us. Couldn't finish my calzone so I was brought a takeaway box for what was left. Bill came and it was overall a reasonable price. It was a lovely evening overall.

We usually use our Tesco vouchers for eating out, and console ourselves that it is an almost free meal, to make up for the mediocre food, when eating at chain restaurants however the dining experience at this Ask restaurant is good. Unlike many similar restaurants the tables are well-spaced and It isn't noisy. Service is very good and the food is invariably good. Good wine at a reasonable price and plentiful iced water. Ask Stevenage Old Town is now our number one chain restaurant, a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We can always get parked close by too which is a bonus.

Three of us went for a meal last night - food was great, waitress really friendly, we all enjoyed pizza's but were told we were unable to have coffee as the machine had broken. One good PR tip, manager should have gone and bought some decent instant and given anyone who wanted a cup, coffee on the house. Small things go a long way to keep customers happy.

Cafe Mokalocation-iconSt George's WayItalian

I visited here on a Saturday. This is one of a row of three eateries in a Food Court, that all share the same seating/eating area. The Food Court was less than half full with customers. The typical cafe at the far end was busy, and most of the customer eating seemed to have ordered their food from there, judging by the number of fully loaded plates zipping out of the kitchen and being delivered around us. There was a Thai food place in the middle, and Cafe Moka on the end nearest to where we were sitting. Cafe Moka did not appear to be busy and my son wanted to order his food from there rather than the busy cafe. I have no idea why - that's kids for you!My son ordered the set breakfast No. 1, which consisted of beans, bacon, egg, and two sausages. They do not serve chips so he had toast instead, with a hot chocolate to wash it down. So, all was well at this point. I paid for his food and then I went to the Thai place and browsed their menu. I selected the Massaman Curry with rice, paid and sat down at our table. Within ten minutes my Thai food had arrived and it was delicious! I loved it. I tucked in. It was very hot so I ate slowly. I had got about a third of the way through my food but my son's food had still not arrived, so I went to the counter and asked when it would be ready. Cafe Moka had not yet started filling my son's order, but the chef assured me that he was about to begin it as it was the next order. I was puzzled, as they had only served two tables since I had ordered, so they did not seem to be busy and they didn't explain why it was taking so long to get the food out - particularly when the other cafe had served about 6 tables in the same time. I carried on eating until I was about 2/3 way through my food. At this point we had waited about 20 minutes for my son's meal. I spoke to the waitress and said that if my son's food didn't arrive within the next couple of minutes then I'd like a refund. I wasn't rude, I didn't swear, I didn't make a big fuss - I just quietly said that we were very unhappy with the long wait of about 20 minutes (at that point in time) and that I had almost finished my meal, and so if my son's food wasn't ready in the next couple of minutes then I would like a refund please. Bear in mind that the cafe next door but one was still sending plates of food out of their kitchen by the dozen and serving umpteen tables, I therefore felt that if we cancelled my son's food then we could re-order it at the other cafe and it would arrive fairly soon.Well, the waitress quickly returned and assured us that the chef had just started frying the egg and that the food would only take 'as long as it took to fry the egg' so I said 'OK, thank you', and we waited some more. The young waitress was polite, friendly, and I felt that she was a good waitress and that she handled my unhappiness well. Naturally it took longer than the egg frying time, so when the food finally left the kitchen I was literally on the last two mouthfuls of my meal. Despite it being volcanic heat when I received it I had had sufficient time to scoff the lot while we waited, and I'm not a quick eater. When the food finally left the kitchen it was given to a different (older) waitress who walked past us twice and then tried to give the plate to a table with three blokes sitting at it, despite me waving at her to attract her attention. When the guy came out of the kitchen and showed her where we were sitting, both of them came over with my son's lunch. I said 'Great, here's your food' to my son and then both the waitress and the chef started in on us, yelling that 'You gotta wait!' and 'there were two tables to serve before you!' and 'How can you expect us to be quick when we are so busy??' and 'Whaddya expect?'. In response to this I pointed out that they only had two tables to serve before us, and those tables weren't even full. I said that we had waited well over 20 minutes (nearer 25-30) and that if they felt that they were struggling to serve customers in a reasonable time then they should let the customer know when the order is placed that it will be 20 minutes or more before they get their food. They stared mocking me, saying 'Huh! 20 minutes? Huh, you never waited that long!' although the older waitress had only just come on duty and so she had absolutely no idea when we had turned up. The chef just shouted and waved his arms at us, yelling 'You gotta wait - you gotta understand, you gotta wait'. Yes, I understand that it takes time to cook food, but we had entered the food court and seen that this Cafe Moka was not busy whereas the other cafe was busy and bustling, so it was reasonable to expect that Cafe Moka would serve our food in a reasonable timescale. I noticed people that had entered the food court after us and gone to the other café had their food delivered to them long before my son's food had arrived. If you are slower at serving your food to customers because you take greater care over making it or because you want to focus on one order at a time or because you want to make sure that you do it really well then that is fine - but then you need to warn customers that they face a bit of a wait so that you manage their expectations and ensure that they don't get unhappy. I sat there eating while my son looked on and told me how hungry he was, and I felt awful. If I had known that we faced a longer wait then I would have delayed ordering my own food so that both food orders would have arrived at roughly the same time, or we could have ordered and then browsed the nearby jewellery stall for a while and then returned. Also, if a customer is unhappy with the wait then going out there and standing in front of them with the two of you shouting and waving your arms at the customer (a single woman and her child seated at the table) is very unprofessional and unacceptable. I didn't shout at you, so why should you shout at me? How about a simple 'Sorry for the delay, next time we will let you know if there is going to be a bit of a wait'. I would have been happy with that. We didn't get an apology for the delay nor for their shouting at us. We just left and decided never to return as their customers. However, I can't praise the Thai food place enough - the food was fantastic, the service was quicker than expected,it was a very reasonable price, and the staff were warm, smiley, and very friendly. We will also try the other cafe, the really busy one. If lots of customers are going to the other cafe then perhaps we should have just followed the herd in the first place. As for the Café Moka food itself – it was good food. It was simple food - sausages, bacon, egg, beans toast - but it was all nicely cooked and juicy. The toast was fresh, thick, and buttery, and my son happily scoffed the lot. The reason that I’m writing this review today instead of just going away and forgetting about it is because two staff (the older waitress and the chef) came over and shouted at us rather than just delivering the food (the younger waitress was lovely). I’m a very quiet person and I don’t tend to make a fuss, so this experience was awful. My son is autistic and shouting at us upset him, and that upset me. Manage your customer’s expectations on waiting for their food and always be polite. If you had done that, then this would have been a positive review.

Prezzo - Stevenagelocation-icon128 High Street, Old TownItalian

Booked meal for 5. Restaurant not busy at all -7pm. Sadly it appears Prezzo are closing this particular restaurant and subsequently they had limited supplies of food and drink on offer. Such a shame that a large company cannot keep their restaurants well stocked until closure. Pleased staff we spoke to had been offered new positions in nearby town.

Prezzo - Stevenage Leisure Parklocation-iconUnit 6, Stevenage Leisure ParkItalian

Decided to order a takeaway pizza from Prezzo thinking that although it is more expensive, the food is generally much better. We ordered a marguerita pizza, a mushroom and mascarpone pizza and garlic bread. They were all so disappointing! Barely any topping - 35% dry base, approximately 1 mushroom and maybe a dessert spoonful of mascarpone, the thinnest tomato base ever and all very dry and unappealing. It was like eating cardboard - very disappointed.
