Ask Italian in Brighton and Hove

We booked and had lunch here on Saturday, our first waiter was lovely but then other staff came in and were quite rude , we ordered some bread and it had to go back because it was burnt but the worst thing was one of our party paid for her meal but it wasn't taken off final bill and it was charged again to other people with us it was questioned but we were told it wasn't their problem we had to sort it and subsequently we were charge £25 to much ,not exceptable attitude

We had a great meal with our family, lovely atmosphere, amazing staff and authentic Italian food. Their manager Alfie, really helped us with our party of 6. We will be returning in the near future!

Visited for lunch yesterday and were greeted with a huge smile! The team were all very friendly and attentive, and the food was perfect - delicious as it always is with Ask. Considering we visited during Easter Half term I was surprised that it wasn’t too busy. The decor inside is lovely - clean and fresh looking, and tables aren’t all squished in too closely like some other establishments. Will definitely visit again!

As a group of 9 girls we made room and ate well. On the other hand, the staff was unpleasant towards us. First, we were greeted coldly, without even a smile. Then the waiter was condescending when ordering because we didn't speak any English. Finally, the payment method is complicated to understand, and service fees are added directly to the bill. After adding up what we had eaten, we realized that the final total was more expensive than what we ordered, having paid the service charge. We will not return there.

We ate very well, the decoration is warm. However, the staff were hateful towards us because we were young! Bitter waiter and is a scammer. We won't go back there again.

Quirky Ask Italian as feels like you are eating in someone's living room as opposed to a restaurant. Friendly and welcoming staff. Familiar menu with a great range of Italian dishes and drinks. Opted for the Chicken Lecca Lecca for starter, Luganica Sausage & Nduja Tagliatelle for main, and then the Chocolate Brownie for dessert. All washed down with an Aperol Spritz. Perfect.

We ate in the Brighton Restaurant on Ship Street. Cannot fault the experience from start to finish. Made to feel very welcome from the moment we stepped in the door. My husband and I along with our 3 daughters had a brilliant evening. The waiting staff Saul and Alara were amazing and couldn't do enough for us, they made our evening even more special with their outstanding service. Saul took an interest in why we were in Brighton and gave us some great information on the local area. Keep up the good work and keep smiling. The Walker Family.

My parents and I dined on the 12th March and were served by Saul, who was super friendly and helpful, and generously gave us extra deserts to taste between us. food was absolutely delicious as usual, and new spring menu is great, very diverse and lots of tasty sounding new dishes. thanks so much to Saul and the brighton ask italian team!

We visited on Monday 26th February and had a lovely time. The food was great and the service fantastic. Sam served us and was really friendly, welcoming and even altered my dish to my taste. Thank you!

Food was great only negative the pasta was not hot nore the dish to keep it warm.

Took my son here for dinner, they were absolutely amazing he is a fussy eater and they made his pasta specially, the gentleman that served us was so friendly and helpful, food was great, and if in Brighton again I will definitely be visiting again

Since we don’t eat anything containing pork or alcohol they were really nice making changes to our choices and it was really good that we visited the restaurant again for a coffee and dessert. We came for the tiramisu but it has alcohol in it thanks to the waitress who informed us so we ordered brownies and gelato which was good

A few weeks ago, my friends and I had the pleasure of visiting Ask Italian in Brighton. The quality of both our meal and the service surpassed all expectations. The staff members were exceptionally friendly and went above and beyond to assist us. The level of customer service was truly exceptional.

We had an amazing dinner with my friends at this lovely place! Food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic. I’m a big fan of ASK but this was my first visit in Brighton ASK and I have to tell that was unique and inimitable! Definitely will go there again!

😡😡😡Absolutely terrible food, BLAND NO FLAVOUR how do these restaurants get away with selling this rubbish, I really don’t know ..didn’t have any cheese on the top no flavour except all I could taste was herbs😡😡😡😡😡😡 this a basic pasta meal if this cannot be made flavour then I would employ a new chef. For these reasons I rate this restaurant a 1.5 Star. I barely ate half of it, when hungry and only ate half of a meal you know what it says about the food quality. A waste of money and time and I will not be using these again. I feel conned as a customer. I called them twice to explain that as a paying customer I wasn’t happy with the quality but it didn’t surprise me nobody answered the phone.

Excellent menu especially for wine, staff is very warm, friendly and hospitable, they make a mean mushroom risotto!

The staff make a big difference, make sure you look after them. This was the place I came for my fav Sunflower Tortelleni pasta of spinach and ricotta, pity. Portions are generous. Never a disappointment eating here. And then have brought back their classic salad Italian Dressing (yum) that they used to do in bottles. The quality of the salad has improved, no Little Gem lettuce anymore. I don't eat here to go cheap. Please no shrink inflation.

Absolutely blown away with this place. Incredible food, serving staff going above and beyond. Even considering how busy it was. Didn't have to request boxes for the leftovers and didn't try and force a tip. Also. Definitely have their home made raspberry lemonade. Incredible. Just Incredible.

This Brighton branch is really fun, lively and friendly. The food is also great! I love the decor and the fact that it's an old house. The atmosphere is always calm and relaxing, staff are warm and friendly and I love coming here.

Two rooms. One bright almost brash nice finish, the other dull lacklustre. Friendly service and tasty food. New menu makes it hard to choose from so many great sounding dishes.

Considering we were about the only people there, the service was unacceptably slow. Must have waited at least 20 minutes for our pizzas!

A busy and friendly place. The Calzoni pizza was ok, not great but ok. Staff and service made-up my slight disappointment. I will return I'm sure.

My daughter and I visited on a busy Saturday evening at about 6pm. We did not have a reservation but a table was found on the proviso we would be finished in one hour. Our initial server asked about allergies, to which my daughter advised an allergy to lemon. Despite this tap water was delivered to the table with two glasses that both had a slice of lemon in! That was quickly resolved and our food orders arrived quickly. They were tasty and good portion sizes. They have great vegan choices including a dessert (not just sorbet or vegan ice cream) which is very rare!

We had a fantastic late lunch here on Sunday, enjoyable food and great professional service from Shea and Oliver, the restaurant had a really nice friendly buzz!

We were waiting for food for an hour and it came cold. It was very loud during our meal, because of some children. When paying the bill the waitress asked “do you really not want to leave a tip?”

Went for a birthday 🎂. The food was amazing but there was a large gap from starter to main. No continuity to service but she was very nice. Would recommend highly .

Visited as a couple on a Wednesday night. We did reserve a table a few hours earlier. Plenty of vegetarian options. Service was fast and the food was amazing and hot. We were served by Saul who was fantastic, very friendly, not pushy but gave excellent service and attention. No problem using the Tesco clubcard vouchers.

The service was good and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food quality was authentic and good. A bit expensive, but knew it would be. The atmosphere wasn't very Italian. The Tiramisu wasn't the best I have had. But it does depend on what your expectations are from previous ones. The only downward surprise was the "team tip" added to the bill of 10%, which we didn't notice until afterwards. Optional, but not noticed at the time.

Pasta and salad were not anything special at all. All stuff that I could have made at home myself with more flavour.

Not a bad restaurant. But the food lacks taste, and has too much oil in some dishes. But edible and the staff were nice.

My mum and I visited here today for lunch, we had our usual, the Purple Pesto and it was amazing as always! but I mainly wanted to write this review to acknowledge Michael! (I believe that is his name) He was our waiter last time we ate here, and as soon as we saw him come to greet us at the door this time it put a smile on both of our faces! He is so personable and lovely, nothing is too much trouble and just makes the experience that bit better. A real gem ✨

Had an alarmingly terrible experience while trying to get a walk-in table for 4 on a Saturday evening. We must’ve waited for over 10 minutes and tried to get the attention of 3-4 servers (including the manager). No one came over to see if we could be seated and just tried to avoid making eye contact; literally taking the mickey. Appreciate they could be fully booked, but not having the courtesy to say that to us and having us hanging for their attention was the most awful experience ever. We instead ate at Dos Sombreros who had very nice food and definitely better service!

Ask Italian is my go to Italian restaurant. Brighton did not disappoint. Friendly service good food and complementary pink lemonade on arrival. Thank you for a tote bag, I love it! 🍋

Wish I could give a zero! Terrible service ended up walking out! Lunchtime on a Tuesday… The couple behind us at door had their drinks delivered and food order taken before we were even asked for a drinks order. Shocking! Don’t bother even walking through the door

We prebooked online as it was a BH weekend. The restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived at 6 and very busy when we left at 8. Very friendly staff. Nice round table on the ground floor. We had starters and mains and couple of rounds of drinks. We paid for the food with Tesco vouchers which was great. Chicken lecce and mushroom starters were very hot and tasty. Main meals of lasagne, chicken and pepperoni pizzas were also very good. There is always a nice, buzzy atmosphere in this restaurant. Nice decor too. Highly recommended when in the area.

Lovely place, nicely decorated and the food was delicious. I stopped by for a late lunch in my day off work, ordered bruschetta as a starter and truffle ravioli for main. Totally recommend!

Visited on a Sunday lunch and sat in the courtyard which was lovely and cool and it was a hot, hot weekend. Starters of leca chicken and mixed cheeses were really nice followed by pizza whats not to like. Great service also.

Brilliant friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Toilets were clean. Reasonable prices. Good food. Had a complimentary lemonade.

Hay pizzas sin gluten, aunque pueden tener contaminación cruzada mi pareja celiaca no ha tenido ningún problema, ya que antes de hornear la pizza sin gluten limpian el horno (la contaminación puede ocurrir en la preparación porque todas las pizzas se preparan en la misma cocina). El servicio fue muy muy atento con nosotros y nos dio todas las explicaciones necesarias. Por último las pizzas estaba muy ricas. Recomendable!! Nos pusieron un chupito de limonada nada más sentarnos en la mesa que estaba riquísimo.

I had such a lovely experience celebrating my graduation here. Regardless of it being a table of 12, the service was immaculate and we all got our food at the same time (and hot)! We all had pasta’s and they tasted delicious, starters were amazing, cocktails were good, and the desserts met our expectations. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for a day out in brighton, we felt so taken care of :)

We were very unimpressed with the main waiter, found him quite rude and unwelcoming. Food was not to the usual standard of Ask either. We were even asked to write down our voucher numbers (Tesco) and even then he couldn’t read them , never been asked to do this before . Not sure what his name was but he was tall , spoke in a foreign accent and had a beard. We won’t be heading back anytime soon !

The food was pretty tasteless, and definitely not italian. The place is beautiful but such a pity that the food is so bland. Service was also not the best, as we were given dirty looks when asking for extra to add to our food to make it taste like something (e.g salt/parmesan)

I've been here a few times over a number of years and the food, as you would expect, is consistently good. The gluten free pizza base is well worth the visit. This time the restaurant was very quiet and staff were friendly. Took a long time to get the bill but it wasn't a problem.

Terrible service. Not enough staff working. 25 min til I flagged down someone to order a drink. Another 15 min, no drink, no food order. Food arrived cold. No doubt due to noone available to bring it to the table. Another table in our section sent back cold food. One couple left without even eating as they'd waited so long for their food (ordered before we arrived 50 min ago). Italian waitress was lovely, however Cold food and appallingly slow service - we won't be returning.

We hadn’t pre booked, and walked in as a party of 7. The staff were friendly and helpful and were able to accommodate us. The food was amazing, the wine was lovely and the service was first class! I’d definitely visit again.
