Ascot Spices in Windsor and Maidenhead

This is our regular place to order Indian food. I ordered a couple of weeks back when ascot races had been on. ordered online and was given a 30min delivery time ( usually arrives after about 20 mins) We waited 45 minutes and as it was a race day, we then waited another 15 to allow for the busy period ............ nothing made a phone call and we were told 5 mins longer which is perfectly acceptable. Total time waiting was 1.5hrs and my kids were now moaning, food arrives and is ... COLD so I had no option to reheat my freshly prepared food as we could wait no longer. When I called to tell the restaurant of the issue I was told I would receive a phone call from the manager. No phone call, no discount and not really any apology. After using Ascot spices for years we will be going elsewhere now.

Wonderful, flavoursome curry. The service was good but there were a few things they kept forgetting about when we ordered. They sorted us out when we reminded them though and just really really lovely food and wonderful modern interior setting.

Uninspiring menu, very basic standard curry selection. We ordered two dishes from the 'house specialties' both with very different descriptions that tasted the same as if they make basic one curry and add prawns or chicken, a bit more chilli or maybe some coconut milk. The food was agreeable, just alright, nothing special. Service was abysmal. My cutlery was literally chucked on the table in front of me and when they cleared the table they checked my beer bottle still had some in it, left that but took away my glass. The entire restaurant was empty when we arrived at 8pm (unsurprisingly) with any atmosphere only developing when the pubs started the empty and the place become crowded with tables of pissed blokes.

Great food and nice calm vibe, Restaurant looks amazing as well. Service was exemplary.

Arrived late but service was spot on. Food was delicious. Good value as well.

Just ordered and eaten a takeaway from Ascot Spice. Great selection on the menu. Food arrived piping hot in 30 mins when they said it would. Food was absolutely lovely. Thoroughly recommend. Steve & Ness

There reviews speak for themselves, refused service at 21.56 due to being busy but a group of 4 come and seated with 10 minutes, I then ordered take way at 23.30 they kicked me out, they have no challenge 25 or licensing on display which is law so take photos to report, security got physical and tried to take my phone jone of a company and needs shutting down owner is cash only and avoiding the tax man

I asked for table for four. They double checked the availability and said, yea you could call your friends you’ll be next. As no one was waiting then. But when my friends came in -who were of a dark skin- a man who seemed to be the manager or owner was furious and rushed to say in a hostile way we don’t have availability and you have to leave. I can’t see any other reason than racism for changing their behaviour and availability and attitude which is unacceptable under any circumstances. If I have time I’d probably file an official complain.

It's genuinely one of the best curries we've had in a long time! We had sag aloo, Dopiaza, tikka massala a lamb bhuna, and all were top notch! Unfortunately, my home address is outside of their delivery area 😒 so I've only ordered the once. Food arrived after about half hour/40 minutes and ahead of schedule

would give no stars if possible! food tasted okay but was lukewarm and atmosphere terrible - watch out for the arrogant manager/owner (short & large man) who is nasty to everyone.

I took a takeaway of sag panner and peshwari naan today. Found the spinach very bitter and paneer stale. Peshwari naan was not upto the taste as well. Overall waste of money

High price despite delicious food Small portion sizes

Food was ok. We had Butter Chicken and Chicken Korma. The sauce was a little too oily but tasted great. The breads were very good. It was quiet on a Thursday, but was a very rainy January so that may have kept people away. Would probably visit again if we were passing.

Best vegetarian curries in the area. Highly recommend

Simply one of the best Indian restaurants in London or surrounding areas… group of friendly and professional staff… So far we have had an amazing experience with both Collection and Delivery and we look forward to try their beautiful lounge for our next occasions. On a big race meeting day I managed to reserve a table for 10 of us with just a quick phone call at 5pm from the racecourse. Service was quick and the food was good.

Dissatisfied. Had a meal here tonight and staff didn’t return our change. We had to ask for it, said they had “forgot”! Only three customers in! Rude Staff to the point of rip off. ☹️

I thought is was good. I've been a few times now and its not ever been bad. I've not had a delivery or take away so can't comment on that yet, but eating in is fine .

Walked in without a reservation and was shown to a table almost immediately. This was great considering we just left a big race event at Ascot Racecourse. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was excellent. Spicy meant spicy which is not common with what our tastes are. Had the lamb shank which was a amazing. Will recommend.

2nd time we have ordered a takeaway from here. 1st time we were disappointed with the quantity for price paid as takeaway dishes were only half full and several dishes were cold but we thought we’d try again. Definitely won’t try any more as yes for the money we paid for the dishes the portion sizes are small and nearly every dish was cold.

This is the second meal we've had delivered recently and again it was exquisite. Meat tender vegetables very fresh

Had a take away last night, lamb birani + a chicken tikka with a few more extras, As a experience overseas traveller, both the dishes were of quality, when it comes to taste! The meat was cook to perfection, I would have liked a bit more corrander added to the birani, however saying that! It a very good dishes, I'll certainly be trying out this restaurant again..... Been there a few more times since my last review, the quality is not always consistent, shame!

Went with friends from work on Saturday night, food seemed OK at the time. 2 out of 8 haven't turned up to work and the rest are currently occupying the toilets! Can safely say i will not be eating from here again.

This is the third takeaway we have had from Ascot Spices and after 3 fantastic meals decided to write this review. The food is so fresh, the chicken really moist and tender, every dish very well cooked and really tasty. I tried the Chicken Dhansak for the first time and it was so good. The onion bhajis are crisp, not greasy and you get just enough chutneys with the pomppadoms, unlike many restaurants who send a couple of each which just go to waste. The Jalfrezi, Madras, Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala have all been delicious. The food arrives on time, is always hot, even though we are outside of Ascot. We used to order from a local well known takeaway and after several disappointing meals and late deliveries, it had been over a year not having an Indian takeaway. So glad we tried again! The staff have always been so helpful, polite and I can only say we will be back ! Thank goodness for a great local Indian Restaurant of quality. Keep up the great food Ascot Spices!

We went at the end of a good day at the races only to experience terrible food served by rude arrogant staff.Our waiter was very rude not even answering our questions about the food in a civil manner, the food does not even taste like proper Indian I've tasted better out of a jar waiter forgot our pilui rice wasn't interested when we told him and he didn't know what Indian dishes were when my husband asked him overall a very disappointing visit would not return.

Do not go to the restaurant on race days as all they want to do is rush you out even though the restaurant is empty. Also the ladies toilets was absolutely disgusting and no one was interested in cleaning them. We was willing to pay good money for a good meal! However we was told we had a hour to leave! This is NOT how a restaurant should be run. We paid the bill and left the restaurant! If you want a good meal in a good atmosphere you should go elsewhere!

Oh my god! I can't even begin to say what a bad experience we had in here this evening. We came in after Ascot with a view to having a lovely relaxing meal. The restaurant was practically empty, but they said we an hour to order and leave. The ladies toilet was an absolute mess. Someone had clearly been sick everywhere. Not necessarily the restaurant's fault, but when I highlighted it a waiter, he said I'm not going to clear it up, but I'll try to find someone to sort it. Oh dear, what a a complete disappointment. Please don't waste your time here.

Visited last weekend with my Wife for my Birthday. We enjoyed our dinner which was all freshly prepared and was served piping hot. We had Chana chat to start with followed by Tandoori fish curry, Chicken tikka biryani with side dishes of Saag paneer & a Tarka dhal with a Kulchi & Pershwari naans. The staff were friendly and efficient so we will return in the future. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

I last reviewed Ascot Spices in 2012 and gave it a good 4 star rating. But what on earth has happened in the intervening years? This was the worst Indian food we've been served in years. Our arrogant, idiot waiter managed to get my order wrong, bringing chicken vindaloo instead of lamb vindaloo... and then accusing me (!) of giving him the wrong order. An alternative waiter rushed off with the chicken vindaloo and came back momentarily with a lamb vindaloo. They had scooped out the chicken and thrown in some lamb instead. The meat was not infused with the spicy sauce at all. And the idiot waiter failed to bring my pilau rice. Again, another waiter had to step in. It was all terrible - and Karen's Chicken Boona was even worse - thrown together without giving the chicken time to absorb the spicy sauce. At £30 a head with drinks you expect your meal to be edible at the very least. AVOID until they sack the chef and the waiters!

First time we ordered food to go. The food took longer to come which was apparent as so fresh. So fresh and hadn’t been sitting around. We ordered a variety of dishes for 4 of us and each was delicious. Lots of taste sensations. Pleasant and friendly staff. Thank you.

Ok, so I live in the midlands so am spoilt when it comes to Indian food.

Fine curry house, pretty decent food, service only OK, was busy after an Ascot race day however, tikka masala very sweet.

visited this restaurant with a few colleagues from work, place is nicely set in Ascot High Street.

We actually had a delivery the prawn Rogan and king prawn Ceylon were more like soup very watery with a few prawns floating around in them onion bhagies not that good either

My husband and I visited here for his birthday, just perfect, friendly without being over the top, airy and light and the tables aren’t too close. Between us we had a mixed grill, prawn dansak, sag aloo and sag panir, all perfectly cooked, piping hot and delicious. We can’t wait to come back

We only live less than a mile away but also go to Sunninghill but tonight thought we’d make a change Very friendly , welcoming and attentive Great food Very quiet but put that down to being a Bank Holiday

Absolutely rank burnt cold meat so tuff could not cut let alone chew. Asked about a balti but ordered a rogan but got a balti anyway Keema Nan was cold and looked uncooked but when we called to complain they were not interested at all.

We wanted somewhere close to eat after a day at Ascot races and found this gem of a place a few doors down on the High Street. We booked in and I am glad we did as we would not have got in without on a race day.

It's very simple - if you like good curry then do not go here. TERRIBLE FOOD. Feels as if this place is stuck in the 80s - my big mistake to eat there last night - decor very dated - service OK but the food is TERRIBLE. I had by far the worst curry I have ever eaten. A chicken pathia which was horrible - sauce tasted like it had just come out of a tin. Tasteless kingfisher lager (my fault, it always is tasteless) - popadoms OK bu sauces very poor. Just a overall poor, cheap bland experience. Do not bother to go there if you really like curry.

We visited on a Saturday of the Ascot races (obviously we pre-booked). Our party changed late to include 2 more and given how busy the restaurant was, we were accommodated with no issues.

This is a good, traditional Indian restaurant. The food is excellent, the service friendly and efficient. The prices are also sensible given where it is.

Me fui como estaba en Ascot para el trabajo. El curry era decente. Yo tenía una balti, un colega paneer queso guisantes que salió con queso cheddar fundido y guisantes, todo era blanda! Pedimos que nos cambiaran y lo venían, no estoy seguro de qué el primero era tratar de ser.

Nos una mesa de cuatro hace dos semanas y todos nosotros realmente disfrutamos de la comida de ese día.

The only local Indian restaurant. The style/flavour food seems to be dependant on what chef is on duty so it is difficult to select a favourite. Servers get a bit muddled but that's ok. Parking is good in the High Street but avoid Ascot race days. Take aways vary in quality/amount.

Hemos estado comiendo aquí durante 12 años y la comida es increíble y fácilmente coincide con muchos de los restaurantes indios premium en Londres en términos de calidad. Nunca tuvimos una mala comida o llevar aquí y mis hijos son muy exigente y se niegan...

I love this place! Friendly staff and great food. I lived in Ascot for 6 yrs and this was my go to curry restaurant. By far the best dish is their house special 'Sikandari lamb'. The lamb is so tender and just falls off the bone. The combination of spices works so well with the dish.

Ordered take away online and thought this place had very good reviews. The curry was tasteless and the meat quite chewy. For the price that I paid I would expect a nicer meal but was a massive letdown. The sauce lacked any creaminess or any flavour and had allot of oil floating around on top. It did come in good repair but the quality of the dishes was sub par. This was a treat for my partner visiting from the Netherlands and jist did not cut it.

We heard bad things from friends because this place had a bad reputation locally but we thought we should give it a try. The curry was cold. Found many dodgy bits of chicken and meat. And to top it off we were overcharged and had terrible service. Not exactly sure how this place is still going as it is always empty, no suprise there. Please give this resterant a miss. Go to some of the Indians in Sunninghill and Winkfield row.

Frequent ascot races yearly and this is only second time visiting this restaurant on an annual visit so please hate that in mind when reading. The good is really lovely however the staff on the second visit were very awful. The restaurant was expectedly very busy and me and the party of 12 I was with has no expectation about a long wait for food. However the staff were very short and snappy and seemed irritated by the presence of everyone there. When we asked for water they refused to bring a hug and we're not accommodating. When we left we checked our Bill and saw that charged is £20 for poperdoms... we had 15! When we questioned then they told us it's the way it is and that we should return to London If we don't like it. The behaviour and attitude was shocking and uncalled for. As I said good is good but comes without manners :)

Came here last night for a take away the food was very disappointing probably the worse curry I've had for years, won't be back anytime soon.

My friends and I visited this curry house after the races yesterday. This is a tradition of ours so we thought it would be nice to go again this year, and this time take our friends along too. Upon arrival we were seated at the back & quickly asked if we would like some poppadoms, we happily accepted, we did not ask the price however we later learnt that they are £0.85 each, not a problem seems reasonable. We ordered 2 each. Our drinks orders were then taken by a guy that I can only describe as short tempered, I understand that it is the end of a busy week & there can be very drunk rowdy customers, but this we were not. We ordered drinks & these came, no problem. As we were taking, we were asked if we were ready to order, we were not as some people had not decided what they wanted. So 5 minutes later the same guy came back & said "You order now or you leave" not exactly what we expected, however we considerately thought that he might be stressed as it was a busy time. My partner asked if the Murgi Mosala was cooked with rice (as it usually is) to which the guy replied "we don't sell that" then we had to get the menu out & show him what he sold! (It's not a huge menu) The food was ordered & came out in an acceptable time. The problems came when we received the bill... They tried to charge the 8 of us over £20 for poppadoms £20!!!! The most it should have been was £13.60, they had also added a service charge of over £20 when the service we had received was dyer to say the least! I will not return here, nor will I recommend anyone goes here, the service was diabolical & the food average at best, highly disappointed by this & next year we'll have to start a new tradition!

The food is great and always served promptly and piping hot. I have tried several of the dishes and enjoyed all of them - the service is good (even when exceptionally busy and full of high spirited race goers). Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a good time there and the food was really good would recommend it as a first class Indian Restaurant
