Archipelagos in Brighton and Hove

We were looking for somewhere to eat near to 2100 and a good number of places had closed by then. However this place was open for business! Never been to a Greek restaurant before!We were shown a nice table already laid out and then handed menus. The restaurant looked clean & tidy and well looked after! We took our time deciding what to have. Our tap water request came along fast in a nice jug with ice & lemon. Our female and male waiter were helpful friendly and warm. We chose a few side plates (check photos) which was promptly served and tucked right in sharing on a small plate (less is more). The food was so yummy well presented and laid out. The warm bread was really nice. We had 3x bread in the end!I had there version of Paella which was a tad spicey however served with mussels and prawns and prawns in shells which I % ate as good protein! They were generous in portions also. Prices were reasonable for the dishes. However eyes being bigger then our stomachs was so filling! But that's our fault the food just so sold us! My friend had battered cod & mash which he ate all and enjoyed!I ended evening meal with a Greek Coffee and a nice chat with the waitress about reading the coffee leaves at the end. This place is open and ready for business. Helpful and really friendly. Yes I would like to come back here again.

We came for dinner here and ordered lots of meze dishes between 5 of us. The food was amazing but the service was WOW! I already can’t wait to come back!

We visited as a party of 4 for dinner on a Saturday night in September. We had prebooked and attended for the second sitting at 8.00pm.The food as usual was very tasty, generous portions and served well by the friendly, efficient Archipelagos team. The aubergine starter and the moussaka main were both amazing. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. There was so much salad that I asked for a couple of take away boxes and took it home with me.Highly recommended. Well worth a detour to go here.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realise that a restaurant with close to 700 ‘excellent’ reviews has to be pretty special. So let me cut to the chase; Excellent Food, Charming Staff and Reasonably Priced. It’s a no brainer really. There’s a good choice of restaurants in this area, but this one really takes the biscuit. Highly recommended.

We visited whilst on a holiday as a family. The hosts are superb and the food is some of the best Greek food we have tasted, and that includes multiple trips to the Greek Islands and mainland. If you love Greek food you need to visit.

Second time I've visited this fantastic restaurant since its opened. Excellent food and great service. The food is so good you think you're in Greece.

One of my favourite restaurants In Hove. Food is always so tasty and it has a great atmosphere. What really make it is the staff. So friendly and attentive. Been here multiple times for birthdays and date nights. Thank you for being such a great restaurant!! Also a must try is the calamari and the fried aubergine!

I went here with a girl friend whilst on a short break in Brighton . When we arrived, the waiter told us they were fully booked and apologised for seating us on a long table with another couple . He offered to move us as soon as he was able but we didn’t mind at all . Shortly after we placed our order of garlic mushrooms, taramasalata, pitta and souvlaki , a large party arrived and were served before us . We waited over 30 minutes then enquired about our food. The waiting staff were so apologetic ( I think we were forgotten ) and more than compensated for the wait by offering us a generous discount on our food . As we enjoyed our meal so much and the service was so brilliant thereafter, we actually paid significantly more than the final bill . We would definitely return and had a great evening .

This was our second visit to Archipelagos. The first was superb. This visit was disappointing.The restaurant was full, outside and in, but there were only two members of the waiting staff. Our starters were excellent. They did not all arrive at the same time, but the gap between each item's arrival was very short.When the main courses arrived, two were cold. We sent them back. The service was indifferent. The waitress was not apologetic.Understandably, it took some time for a replacement course to be cooked. By the time the food arrived the other members of our table had finished eating.No apology was offered for the problem with the mains. We raised a concern with the management, and asked for our bill to be reduced. The waitress had very little interest, and summoned the manager. He proceeded to argue with us, and was unwilling to respond to our suggestion that we receive a reduction from our bill. Eventually, one item was removed from the bill, but not without an unpleasant argument with the proprietor.Sadly, we will not return to this restaurant.

The food was lovely delivered with superb service would highly reccomend . Decided to try a few mezes instead of just one main lovely

I have been here a few times with friends and decided to take my husband Saturday evening. He was not disappointed. We had a selection of mezes. The potatoes cooked with lemon, garlic and oregano were delicious as was the meat moussaka; pork slouvaki, squid, garlic prawns, courgette fritters. The waitress kindly gave me a menu to take home as all the food that was coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Cannot wait to return to this restaurant. Thank you for a great time.

Took a friend for her birthday & will definitely visit again. We shared 3 cold mezze dips, the lamb kleftiko & Greek sausage. All were absolutely delicious as was the dry Greek white wine. Can’t remember it’s name but I think it was £24 a bottle so very reasonable! Will be back to eat again for sure!

What a lovely friendly place, wonderful food and a good price, staff very friendly, we found it the best food outside the greek islands and we been to a few. Would go again.

When we went to the restaurant, we were greeted with a smiling face. There was hand sanitizer on every table. The music playing in the background was nice. Service was excellent and fast. Food was really delicious. Especially Kleftiko was very nice and it was a really big portion. Starters were delicious and affordable. Our food came hot and fresh. The waiters were very kind. Baklava and Kadaifi were very lovely and fresh. I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to going again.

A lovely Greek restaurant! Went there with my kids, who declared it to be their favourite meal ever, and a vegetarian who said he was very impressed with the range of non-meat options. All the food was gorgeous, not a single mediocre dish in the large amount we ordered! And the service and staff were excellent too. Highly recommended

We had emailed the restaurant a couple of weeks ahead of our visit to reserve a table and had received great, digital customer care and confirmation. It was therefore disappointing to be told that there wasn’t a booking in our name and have to prove our reservation on arrival. Having shown the email trail, we were taken to a vacant table but the ‘welcome’ wasn’t a good first impression. The visit got a lot better with excellent food, well priced and off a really well put together menu which led with lots of meze options, which we chose from. The ambiance was great, but the service throughout could have been friendlier (including the slightly hostile start), but on the whole the experience was good.

Always our 'go to' restaurant when someone suggests eating out. Wonderful service, delicious food and very reasonably priced!

This place is great! Although I still dont know why we dont come back more often. The food is amazing, good quality with perfect flavours. A word of caution though, you will over order. The table will be full!

I never normally leave reviews, but this was our first time eating out in several months due to COVID lockdown,and I have to say I was a little nervous.The restaurant was spaced out and the staff all took precautions which put us at ease, and the food was absolutely fantastic. We ordered several mezze dishes and would order absolutely all of them again, especially the moussaka. I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came as I had expected to pay more, it really is excellent value. As we only live down the road, we will be back again (and again, and again!!)

We all ate vegan/vegetarian and enjoyed excellent Greek food, served with real style, authenticity and cheerful good service. The food is excellent, the Mezze wonderful. Superb local eatery - don’t hesitate!

We dropped in here without booking and were so lucky that they fitted us in. We had two vegetarians in our group and they loved the choice of small veggie dishes. The main courses are generous portions and the whole cost including a bottle of wine was £100 for four - fantastic value for as much as we could eat. This is a really relaxed and fried,y place, with loads of choice of healthy delicious Greek food.

Very Good. Quite small so probably best to book, But great food, all served quickly and efficiently. Three of us ordered around 12/14 meze dishes. First dishes such as pitta bread and taramasalata come out of the kitchen at the speed of light, all others arrived as they were cooked (all red hot, which is fantastic), We had an assortment of fish dishes, meat dishes, Veg... all were superb

A small but amazing restaurant ,food was excellent ,staff very friendly had a group of 7 friends all different meals but all came together and all very tasty ,will definitely go back if in area

Went here for my girlfriend's birthday meal, was greeted with very good service and seated immediately, drinks arrived within 2 minutes.. ordered calamari, pitta and tzatziki for starters. All very nice, was recommended local calamari from the menu instead of imported and it was delicious.. I Had lamb for main and it was huge, so much meat, very tender and very rich in flavour. My girlfriend ordered souvlaki chicken which was really tasty, had a nice citrus flavour and was tender. Overall nice evening and experience.

We were off to a gig nearby and wanted to sit down for a meal before hand. Archipelagos was busy but we popped in and they said they could squeeze us in but we only had an hour. The food was fabulous! We started with tzatzziki and pitta bread, probably ate too much. All washed down with a Mythos. I then had a chicken souvlakia, it came with rice and salad as well as proper Greek chips, homemade. My partner had the vegetarian moussaka, a very generous portion! We were stuffed! I loved the tv screen showing beautiful Greek islands, a real antidote to a damp, cold January night. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend this place. Made a real change from pizza.

Went for birthday treat, and yes it really was a treat! Love Greek food and Archipelagos is THE place to have the best. Will be back again soon!

I’ve been here a couple of times and always enjoyed the food. This was the first time with a big group and it was just as good. They made us all feel welcome and the food and drinks were served quickly. The Greek salad and Veggie moussaka were both delicious with very generous portions. Plenty of water on the table is always appreciated. We had a couple of buggies and despite the restaurant being small they made sure there was room for them. Unfortunately my 4 month old was not having such a good time and seemed to be having some major teething pain. The staff were really kind and one even popped out to buy medicine for her and refused to take payment! Eventually she settled - much to the relief of everyone in the restaurant. Really appreciate being made to feel welcome, despite the mayhem. Will return when the baby is older and can enjoy the food too!

We have used this restaurant a couple of times, and when I wrote a review just over a year ago I gave it five stars. I was therefore very surprised and disappointed with our recent experience. Let’s start off by sayIng that the food is very good, and I can’t complain about the quality. However, the service was a totally different matter. We came to Brighton a couple of weeks ago for my daughter’s birthday and didn’t hesitate in booking this restaurant. My wife and I got a helium balloon to put on the table and called into the restaurant in the afternoon to arrange for it to be put on the table. We spoke to a gentleman who we assumed to be the owner/ manager, and he seemed a very pleasant person and he agreed to have the balloon on our table for our arrival. When we arrived for our meal, the first thing we noticed was that the balloon was not on the table and so we had to go and ask for it. We ordered drinks, and a couple of us had a bottle of beer. I asked for two glasses, but these never arrived. We placed our order and the food duly arrived. However, as we were well into our meal, I realised that we were missing three dishes. I asked about these, and they had clearly been forgotten, and they arrived just as we were finishing our meal. I asked for two more beers and these never arrived, so I had to ask for them again. The final straw was when they dimmed the lights and started to play “happy birthday”. I thought that this was a nice touch until they walked past our table and delivered a cake with candle to another table and ignored us. I found this very insulting and it felt like a deliberate snub. I asked for the bill, and noticed that service had been included. I was going to ask for this charge to be removed, but decided not to cause a scene and ruin my daughter’s birthday. I was really puzzled by this shoddy treatment, as we thought that this was a good family friendly restaurant. With this in mind, and rather than immediately put a critical review on trip advisor, I sent an email to the manager / owner to outline my experience. I didn’t receive a reply, and so I sent another message, which was also ignored. I don’t know what we have done to receive such poor treatment - we really were very disappointed with the evening. Regretably we won’t be returning.

I went to Archipelagos last week with my family to celebrate an anniversary event. I had booked a table for four and when we arrived we were greeted and felt like home. The great atmosphere of the restaurant was accompanied by the best greek food we tasted in the U.K for a long time. The best Greek food in Brighton. Well done guys! The service by the way was excellent. The food arrived super fast and the staff made as feel welcome. Excellent value for money. I will certainly go back.

Recommended by AirBnB host and was pleasantly surprised. We opted for a mixture of starters to create our own meze. Very authentic taste and flavours and some real specials such as the aubergine slices. Staff were friendly and professional.

We went to Archipelago this weekend and chose it based on its good reviews. Who is writing these reviews! The food is very average, We had souvlaki, meatballs and lambchops for our mains, They were pretty tastless. In Greece they would have had much more flavour using fresh lemon and herbs etc Even The starters were bland and boring, something anyone could serve up without any skill. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a nice ambience and service was pretty good and efficient, but I dont think I would return and spend a lot of money for not so good food.

Just throw together a few tapas (or whatever goes for tapas in Greece), a few friends and family, and you've created an enjoyable dining experience out of nothing. Prices are quite reasonable too! Plus, a bottle of Mythos beer makes the experience even more authentic.

I've been to Archipelagos a number of times over the last three years and its never disappointed. The service is always very attentive and the waiters are really helpful with choosing dishes. We normally have a tapas type of meal so we can try a bit of everything, and must have got through most of the menu by now! The fresh calamari, Ktipiti dip, meatballs and the moussaka are some of my favourites. The portions are also massive, so you don't need to order too much. There's a large selection so good for vegetarians too. Really great value for money, and top quality. Would definitely recommend!

This is the best Greek resturant around. Been there quite a few times and the food is always very tasty. There is a great atmosphere, very friendly staff. Would recommend this place to anyone. It is now one of the best resturants in Brighton & Hove.

I am forever puzzled by the good reviews this restaurant gets. The food is really below par. Having spent a lot of time in Greece I was so happy to give it a try on the basis of all the enthusiastic reviews, but I was incredibly disappointed. All dishes taste the same... and it's not a good flavour, they are somehow sweet and lack freshness of flavours. On the plus side the staff are nice and helpful

This year, we stayed in the UK for our summer hols. In the past we have visited some of the Greek Islands. We had a busy day in Eastbourne and Brighton and had walked considerable distances and to be honest I was hungry and grumpy. My husband suggested we try this restaurant and given past experiences of Greek Restaurants in the UK, I was a little uneasy. We were in for a treat; all the lovely, unusual Greek dishes I had eaten in Greece where on the menu and it was all delicious. We had quite a few dishes which we ate like a meze. They did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the people were very hospitable and friendly. We loved it. It's a shame we live so far away or it would be a regular haunt.

A last night of holiday meal for the family, we wanted something different, we’d tried earlier in our holiday but every night the restaurant was busy, when we finally got a table we could see why the place was busy, it was well worth the wait! Great menu, we chose from the mere and shared amazing food, added to the friendly staff made the night one to remember

We popped in to eat before we went to the Old Market - the first restaurant we came to. The restaurant has a modern blue and white decor, Greek music and a screen playing beautiful images of Greece behind the bar. There were already a few tables but they served us quickly and were efficient and friendly and we never had to wait.

Booked this for our wedding anniversary, we were not disappointed, prompt and attentive service and excellent choice of dishes. We elected to have 5 meze starters rather than a main each. All well prepared and presented. A half carafe of wine topped the meal off.

We visited last night as walk in guests and what a treat my husband is half Greek and this was the closest thing to his mother’s food I have ever tasted at a restaurant... Delicious

The food is excellent, the waiters are lovely. Have prawns in tomato and feta and lamb kleftico. Would highly recommend.

We came here last night with friends from New Zealand,who are about to embark on a cruise round the Greek Islands. We’ve travelled quite extensively in Greece and love the food and wanted them to enjoy it too. We weren’t disappointed! The mezes were delicious and the main courses of sea bass, lamb chops, moussaka and meat balls couldn’t be faulted - we were just defeated by the amounts provided! There is a nice, buzzy and relaxed atmosphere here and on a Tuesday evening it was packed, which in an area surrounded by so many restaurants is always a good sign. We shan’t hesitate to eat here again, it was a lovely evening.

This is a great little Greek restaurant. Our waiter was enthusiastic and friendly, a lot of the menu is mezze which is great as we didn't have to wait long at all for it to arrive. 5-6 portions was more than enough for two and the food was good and reasonably priced. What's not to like?

Came here with a friend on a Thursday evening and it was packed. Amazing meze. Had a selection of squid, king prawns in a lovely sauce, beetroot dish with feta, vine leaves and aubergine. The portions were huge. Asked for Irish coffees to finish the meal. When they arrived we were not happy with the way they looked. I asked our waiter if he could redo them. He did not argue at all about redoing them.It was not a problem and they were made again to perfection. 10/10. We will definitely return.

We came here for lunch after Brighton Pride. The food was lovely! The portions are very generous, we definitely over ordered! The Moussaka was my favourite- the one in the smaller dishes is more than enough for one, the main meal one was huge! The souvlaki was nice but their chips were even better. If you like Greek food, check this place out!

There is nothing better than finalizing a working week with a nice dinner. The staff was super friendly and quick with serving. Fab, fresh tasty Stifado with rice, Calamaris with fries and salad. The portions are filling we could not eat any puddings. Great experience and I would book again this summer.

This place is a favourite whenever I have family or friends from elsewhere visiting. We last came with as a large group of family on a busy Saturday lunchtime, the waiter was more than welcoming and managed to fit us in, despite us not booking.

I’ll be honest I’ve lived in the area years and never gone been here. But a friend took me and what a joy. The food was fantastic, the staff friendly and overall a great evening. How silly to have waited so long.

I went to the restaurant with a group of friends, heavily pregnant and on the hottest day of the year. The food was delicious and very authentically Greek and reasonably priced.

I had dinner here with a friend back in March and it was okay. The service was good, can’t fault that, the food was okay and the pricing okay. But that was all, it didn’t have the wow factor I was really expecting, given its reputation. I found it odd that much of the menu had rice and Greek salad as a bolt on to the dish you were ordering. This meant we ended up with far too much food and much of it was wasted, which is a shame. I just didn’t want to feel it was an all you can eat buffet, with piles of rice and Greek salad which you would ordinarily order separately, if wanted. I just wanted the very nice kleftico and maybe a side dish!

Uau what a gem, Traditional Greek food with generous portion even for the tapas style meals, all of them very tasty. Love it I will definitely come back.

We have come here before the Elton John concert. The food is spectacularly delicious the service is so warm and friendly. Highly recommended

If you fancy Greek food, I would suggest you go elsewhere, the food is average and quite forgettable. The tables are quite close together so we felt we could hear the conversation of the next diners beside us. What we didn’t like in particular is the feeling of being ‘rushed’. Before we had even finished our meal, one of the waiters thought it was okay to plonk the cheque down beside us and hinted that he would like us to pay quickly. This immediately soured our dining experience and conjured up a conveyor belt system of ‘pack them in, and get them out as quick as possible’. We won’t be dining here again. Very disappointing.

Was in hove for work for the day , came here for lunch on my own. Nice decor and friendly service . I had the hummus and feta to start with. Then the meatballs as a main course. All lovely tasting . The waitress was excellent and made me feel welcome as a solo eater . Will be back

I can’t write enough about the experience as it’s been excellent , We we’re served by a young lady who was very friendly and very helpful. We had two main courses Sea bass and Archipelagos Gamberoni and its was delicious, they were served with chips rice and mix salad. We also tried there Greek coffee too. Top

Very small restaurant, unassuming frontage but you can see why they have set sittings at the busiest times. The food is, for the most part delicious and the portion sizes are, well, think tapas on steroids. The service was attentive but not overly rushed despite understanding that there was another sitting after us. If I was being picky I would say the choice of beer on offer was not great and pricey. Had one tasteless Greek beer and then I resorted to the house Red, which was very good and reasonably priced.

I have visited this restaurant a few times with family, friends and my fiancé and it is always a pleasure. I love the service and food, always makes me feel like I am on holiday. Highly recommend it!

I'd never go back here. The food was ok, nothing really special. We were given a 90 minute slot (which it did say when we booked on the website) and a lot of places say this but most don't give you a 10 minute warning by telling you to pay the bill and looking on at you with disgust while you try to finish your wine and there's still a good 10 chairs free nearby! The waiter did offer to fillet our fish which he did very clumsily, leaving many of the bones.

It's been a few years since the last time we eat here and we weren't disappointed. A bit of a last minute choice, but we were made very welcome. We couldn't fault the service and as we love Greek food there was an excellent choice, good quantities and reasonably priced. We even enjoyed the Greek wine and Greek coffee. If you love Greece, you will love this place.

If you are into Greek food, that is your place. all the staff make you feel like home. Deliciours dishe with excellent presentations, abundant portions and unique charm and attractiveness. The relation between quality and price is excellent. I promise you will not leave "Archipelagos" hungry, quite the opposite.

This place never disappoints , been her with my husband we order grilled feta with honey and pita a feta dip for starters and the tase was divine.

So on a random day trip to Brighton we walked passed this place and me been Greek I usually avoid Greek food in the uk due to bad experience and it’s not like home let’s face it.... but not in this case.... was greeted by a Greek guy that was very knowledgeable with the menu recommended some great choices made us feel very welcome. There was only two of us but I think I ordered half the menu and I mainly ate the lot. Food was full of flavor and I felt like I was back home for an hour! Will definitely be back!

Booked dinner while visiting Hove for a few days. Really impressed with this friendly, cosy Greek restaurant. Ordered far too much food, underestimating the size of the plates but all dishes were lovely and arrived precisely in the order we asked for them. House carafes of wine were very nice and inexpensive. A really great night - would recommend.

Called in for lunch on Saturday and they were almost fully booked. Had the last table and the menu was first class. Lots of "tapas" style dishes but all very Greek. We didn't need a main course. Just chose 4 or 5 dishes off the starter menu. The staff were fantastic. Wine by the carafe was OK but what a great atmosphere.

Came here the night before Valentine's day with my partner and her Sister and partner. We had not really done Greek before and decided let's give the standard stuff a break and try something new.

Visited Archipelagos on a Thursday night, we booked a table for 6:30 and glad we did as it was very busy, they were turning people away! That’s a great sign of what to expect.

I travel to Greece a lot and I love the food and perhaps even more, the relaxed atmosphere that prevails in a good Greek restaurant. Sadly, in the UK that can often be missing but I found Archipelagos ticked all the boxes.

I meet here for lunch often with friends, its a great atmosphere, service is very fast so lunch does not go on and on. Solid Greek menu that is not overpriced, really enjoy it every time, thats why I keep returning.

Last Friday night me and my fellas had dinner in this lovely restaurant. We booked table for 4 and everything was perfect. Despite it was very bussy the food arrived fast on time with great quality. For starters we choosed selection of 4 different dips to try with nice crispy pita, calamari, grilled fetta and vineleaves in sauce for my vegeterian friend. Everything was so nice and delicious that we wanted to repeat the starters again. For main course we had sea bass and lamb chops cooked to perfection served on the side with salad, rice and homemade chips, kleftico in sauce with mix of veggies and veggeterian musaka for my friend. I feel sorry didnt try the meat musaka but next time i will do it for sure. You have big option of drinks in this restaurant on very good price for the center of Brighton and we shared some bottles of wine and greek beers. For dessert we had dilecious baklava and chocolate cake with ice cream. The owner also came in one moment... polite young man who definitely knows how to care for his customers and make them feel comfortable. The staff is great smiling all the time especially the waitress one girl sweeter than baklava. One of the best food i have ever tried. For all greek food lovers my recommendation is to vistit and enjoy this place.

A colleague recommended this to us and it was excellent. The waiters were lovely - really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful (even chasing down the road after us when my friend left her scarf). Food was delicious and plentiful and even though we'd been warned, we did order a bit too much! If I have one small criticism it is that a couple of the dishes were a little bit too salty for my taste, but not enough to be a problem. I'd go back in an instant if I found myself in the area again.

My fiancé and I love Greece and Greek food and this place always remind us of our trips in Greece. Very warm waiters, yummy food and at good prices, what is not to like. I would recommend booking in advance as they get very busy specially at the weekends.

Was a very busy Saturday evening. There are 2 sittings 6.30 and 8.30. At the 6.30 sitting, all efforts seemed to be put into getting us out for the 8.30 sitting. Orders taken before we were ready to order. Food served fast and tasted as if had been cooked that afternoon and briefly warmed. No offer of a dessert just the bill plonked on the table after it had been cleared. Food just not tasty. Medium price.

Excellent flavours and portion sizes. Great to indulge in the sticky cakes too! Really nice atmosphere and we felt very welcome and at home. And as others have said, very handy for The Old Market.

A small restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. The traditional starters are all delicious - hummus, taramasalata, salad, olives, dolmades - and if this is all you eat it will be enough! Moussaka, souvlakia, kleftiko etc are all good. To do justice to the menu you need a good appetite, and leave space for thebaklava!

Have meant to try this place for ages and finally got to give it a whirl ... loved it . Mid week catch up , service great , food fab and reasonably priced . We went for small tapas type dishes , total of 6 between 2 but they’re not that small .. Greek salad, deep fried courgettes (loved these) , chicken skewers , red peppers , hoummous & pitta , all were great and more than enough .. we didn’t have alcoholic drinks but the bill was very reasonable @ £20 per head .. loved it all and would definitely go back

My wife and I had been to Archipelagos once before; some years ago as part of a group of five, and we’d had a very nice meal back then. When it came to choosing a venue for my wife’s birthday it was one of the few places that would accept a table booking for 20 people so we decided to go back. A very good decision, as it turned out.
