I think this is a restaurant where you can't go wrong no matter what you order! Takeaway also has a steady stream of local customers.

Croissant and loaf of bread were both unbelievably tasty. Bakers are definitely very talented!

Came here for lunch. Food was good, service was patchy. Had to ask twice for the coffee, staff were very slow to clear tables and seemed totally uninterested in any kind of work. I asked if there was a toilet to wash my hands and was told it was staff only even though another female customer had asked five minutes before and was allowed to use it. My daughter then asked almost immediately after me and again was allowed. It would appear the toilet is only for females and only on the staff members whim. Not sure how you can have a food establishment with no customer access to toilets. Perhaps Edinburgh council have different rules to the rest of the country when they give out a licence for eateries.

Good baking, Greek influence. Good spiced buns.

This could possibly be the best food I had in Edinburgh. The scone was perfectly salty and crunchy, yet soft in the middle; a perfect vehicle for some Scottish jam. The ginger slice was absolutely to die for! But the clear winner is the vegan lemon olive oil shortbread. I will be talking about it forever, I think. And not to mention, the place itself is quaint and charming in all the right ways! A plethora of WONDERFUL choices, and fantastic customer service as well. Thank you from Canada!

Had a lovely lunch of soup, bread, tea and a delicious cake. The owner was also very accommodating and friendly.

Dreadful allergen awareness. Staff could not confirm ingredients in any of the cakes. I asked them to check the ingredient list but was told its likely out of date. I am appalled at such behaviour from a bakery that prides itself on handmade items.

Nice little bakery with a good range of cakes and bread on offer, alongside coffee and a few light lunch options. Most (if not all) options were vegan friendly and the staff were very nice.

Although the toasties we had were lovely the cakes were bland and dry, as well as being small and overpriced. hot chocolates were really just mugs of hot milk with no chocolate flavour either

Very disappointed to find out that they offer NORTHING glutenfree although it says so in the internet.

This spot is ideal to take in the sights of Edinburgh. Food very nice and ideal if you are vegetarian/vegan. Had the salad bowl which was delicious.

Excellent bakery. I had the coconut cake and it was absolutely one of the best cakes I have tasted. This bakery also has great bread but was sold out the first time we went there. It is also next door to a fabulous women's clothing store - Epitome.

I love this bakery. The food is so lovely and tasty. It's a very relaxed, comfy atmosphere inside, you forget you are on a busy street. Other than the food the staff are sooooo nice, friendly, warm and informative. My wee oasis. Oh, coffee is lovely and not bitter

My favourite bakery in Edinburgh. The ingredients used are high quality and the baking superb. The vegetable samosas are always delicious and have plenty of filling. A little tip - the slices of cake are huge so if you are on a budget then you can always share one.

A brilliant find tucked away from the crowds. We stopped for a takeaway coffee. Having already drunk alot of great coffees that weekend we hit the jackpot with these! The healthy snickers balls were amazing and my partner thought his donut was the best he’d ever eaten. Really friendly staff too. If we’re ever back in Edinburgh we’ll be back!

Bought a ham & cheese panini, heated up but when I opened it up, it was not flat, carved ham but tiny bits. It looked like the scraps of ham from elsewhere.

One of the first places I came to in Edinburgh, and had some super yummy stuff! The homemade gf raspberry amaretti biscuits are to die for. Sooo good. And the chai latte is one of the best I’ve ever had.

I visited here for coffee and cake. One of our party has an allergy so we enquired about the ingredients of various cakes. The information in the booklet the staff had was, they said, out of date meaning we couldn't easily pick a cake. I would expect a place that hand makes it's cakes to provide complete allergen information. I also felt the staff were generally uninterested in helping out.

Lovely baked goods, however if you were under the impression that eggs benedict is a dish containing hollondaise sauce then you're in for a disappointment - the version served here has barely been introduced to it. Its basically just bacon &egg on a muffin. However the biggest issue is that this is a cashless venue so will not be returning or recommending - wont be supporting any business that buys in to the cashless agenda. They wont accept your cash for your purchase but they're quite happy for you to leave them some in their tip jar. Nope!

We discovered this bakery cafe on the last day of our stay. The spicy lentil soup was absolutely delicious and hot (a good thing in my book!). Highly recommended. Note that they don't allow laptops at all in the cafe which is understandable. We hope we'll be back!

We are temporary residents just 2 blocks from Archipelago Bakery and it has become a favorite spot each week. They never disappoint whether we choose sourdough, rye, scones, or even vegan cakes.

This is a small diamond of a stopping off point. Their vegetarian options are all home made and include some the tastiest salads and dressings I have ever had. Bread is made on the premises and I even had chance to speak to the baker about how I can improve my own sourdough making. The staff are so nice and helpful and I highly recommend Archipelago Bakers on Dundas St. Edinburgh. We are definitely returning.

I agree with previous reviews that the quality of the cake and tea were great but service left a lot to be desired. The two young women were surly to the point we though they were about to close when in fact there were two hours before closing. They loudly criticised a previous customer at length while we were eating (it's a small cafe so it was obvious we could all hear). We felt like unwelcome guests in someone else's living room.

Profiteering gone mad. £2.85 for a coffee is acceptable. But an additional 25p for a splash of cold milk is beyond a joke. Bringing the total to £3.10 for a small americano with cold milk (takeaway). If the owner thinks her local custom base are mugs then good luck. It's £1.70 for four pints of milk over the road at Tesco. That's enough for around 50 cups of tea or coffee - or a near 750% profit on the milk mark up. I was advised that the owner - Caroline - insisted on the charge. This is actually not about the charge - outrageous profiteering though it surely is. I handed back my coffee as a small, final protest and asked for no refund. No, it's about the approach to customers, most of whom will be local. If you want to price gouge your clientele we will go elsewhere. There are no shortage of super local businesses. if your business model can't survive without the 750% markup on cold milk then you have bigger problems, I guess. Very poor.

An expensive place and a few errors that made it not worth it. Food served way to hot, napkin was beneath the rice so rice spilled everywhere to reach it, green tea was served with boiling water so undrinkable for a while and then burnt tasting, the one vegan cake option accidentally had a dairy ingredient on that day so they couldn't serve it. Takeaway options much cheaper than sitting in

Lovely selection of scones, cakes, breads etc. With specials on daily too. Lovely helpful staff. Great coffee. Nice cosy cafe atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Grabbed a quick late lunch here Tuesday 24th August 2021 - Brie roll and five bean roll - it was a bit late and they didn't have much left - wasn't sure if it might be a bit 'dried up' but was actually wonderful and very tasty indeed. lovely friendly staff thank you!

This was not our first visit. There were 2 of us and 4 other customers were seated. 3 members of staff behind the counter ignored us on arrival ,carried on cleaning and it took nearly 7 minutes before we were even acknowledged. Not a hello,...

This has become my favourite spot for a coffee and a sweet treat in the New Town. Their coffee is quite nice but the cakes and baked goods are outstanding. Stop by and try it!

Last week my husband tried their granola bar, I tried their brie cheese sandwich and they were god damn good! Happened upon this small local bakery whilst doing a walk. I do like my bread and there are already some great Edinburgh artisan bakeries - the bread from here was super, and a date slice to eat whilst we wandered home. Will be back again...

Althought the place is nice, the service and price were not. Our food was served cold and together with the coffee, both were overpriced. We paid £16 for two coffees and two samosas and the price didn't match the quality.

Wonderful baking and the best coffee in the New Town

We’ve been to Archipelago several times and their baking (bread and cakes) is simply delicious. BUT, it’s pricey for a pretty basic setup and I would advise changing the coffee beans because without tonnes of milk, it’s not drinkable.

Good cake, however we were charged £17.00 for 2 coffees, 1scone with jam and a piece of the spinach cheese pie. This seemed way overpriced or were we overcharged??

I love my bread. Fresh bread, hot buttered toast, toast as a base for fabulous toppings like advocado, or chestnut mushrooms or even baked beans. Archipelago Bakery on Dundas Street, Edinburgh announces itself an artisan bakery and having experienced French artisan boulangeries for many years...

Beautifully baked bread and a big selection of cakes and other sweet treats. I would highly recommend the white bloomer, wholemeal carrot cake (best carrot cake I've ever tasted) and the little amaretti biscuits....but really everything is delicious.

I really wanted to like this place. The lady running the place was incredibly friendly and helpful. Aesthetically it is a nice small independent bakery. The one star comes from the two different slices of cake I ordered. I had a blackcurrant cake and my wife had a rhubarb and sour cream cake. They were expensive at just under £4 per slice. They were small slices for the price too. Everything about the cakes was poor, the taste disgusting, a weird smell and the consistency could only be described as dense.

The bread here is to die for. Carrot & sunflower loaf available on Saturdays is incredible and a lovely way to get some sneaky veg into kids (also amazing with honey!). Proper, delicious yeast-based loaves with fabulous crust and yummy flavour, I'd highly recommend this place for its loaves, which include Combine Harvester (spelt and oat), stoneground wholemeal, white bloomer, and other variations. They sell out quickly though, so if you want bread you need to pop in first thing and certainly before lunch! Cafe sells a nice selection of cakes and brownies and offers local artisan tea, flat whites, oat and soya milk alternatives and the usual array of coffees. Well worth it for the bread alone!!!! 🍞🍰☕

A rare find, a place that makes all their own produce from scratch. Great quality bread (best in Edinburgh from my experience), cakes, ice creams, salads, lunches to sit-in or take away. Lovely owner who is passionate about what she does. Well worth a visit!

Une boulangerie avec un pain des très grande qualité (et je parle en français) et un choix de gateaux plus bon et rafinés les uns que les autres ! Les salades qu'ils / elles proposent sont très équilibrés, légères mais les portions très larges pour un prix tout à fait raisonnable ! 7£ pour une grande assiette et 3 types de salades dans votre assiette, qui peuvent tout a fait rassasier un gros mangeurs ou les petits estomacs due au large choix. Ils ont aussi des glaces maisons et des petites sauces de derrière les fagots.C'est mignon, c'est très honnête, c'est bon et conviviale, et ça n'en veux pas à vôtre porte monnaie. Tout ce que j'avais l'impression c'est qu'on voulait me tirer mon sourire ! Bref moi j'adore, en un an de vie à Edimbourg, j'y retourne sans hésiter !

Really fantastic organic sourdough bread. I also really loved their brownies and date cookies. Sadly, I cannot recommend their scones--just not very flavorful.

Called in for some lunch about 3.00pm but nothing left, no sandwiches, rolls etc. Had a pot of tea and the girl, who was the only member of staff, cut us a generous portion of cake. She was very polite and talkative but can't believe a cafe runs out of food for lunch.

We dropped in for a quick tea, coffee, toast and sitdown. The food and drink were OK but the loud conversation of staff in the open kitchen where people with 'low social skills' were the subject of loud conversation suggest that a bit of equality and diversity training might not go amiss. I did mildly draw this to the attention of one of the staff who didn't respond, but they did quieten down a bit. It's not a place I'd chose again when we're in Edinburgh. I originally thought that it might just have been an off day with staff getting out the wrong side of the bed, but see that other customers have raised issues about poor attitude.

I asked for a cappuccino with oat milk and she brought me a tea(?). It was awkward enough for me to say there had been a misunderstanding, but the girl made me feel like it was 100% my fault. Then she brought me the worst cappuccino I’ve ever had. It was like a black, burnt coffee, with maybe 2 drops of oat milk, for which they charged me an extra 30p. Very disappointed with the experience.

Delighted to have come across this organic bakery which serves a wide range of hand made cakes along with a selection of teas. I was too late for their bread which apparently sells out by lunchtime, but took away a quiche which was delicious.
