Applegarth Farm in East Hampshire

I found this place to be disappointing. It’s trying very hard to be something it’s not, with a tricky menu which wasn’t executed well, overpriced and on top of that, an arrogant, unfriendly little waiter with absolutely no bedside manner. This kid should not be front of house at all. To top it off, the food was burnt and there was no wifi, which made popping in for some breakfast and checking the daily emails, impossible. There is an arrogance in this place and the atmosphere less than friendly.

It's not just the lovely food with perfect proportions (generous amounts of avocado on the toast...not the scrapings you get elsewhere!), or the welcoming fire in the hearth on a cold February morning, it's the calm and friendly welcome, the 'nothing is too much trouble', way they serve you. It's the way they come to the table to take your order and seem to know just the right moment to do so. Really good service, made to look effortless, takes a huge amount of work and commitment. Thanks to the team at Applegarth Farm - I was frazzled when I arrived but totally calm when I left... coffee was lovely too!

Arrived on time. We got pointed to our seat which wasn't very nice. No menus until almost 10mins after we sat down. And it was about 20mins before we could order our drinks. A different server then came over and served us for the rest of the afternoon. Again, she was not overly friendly, neither staff members looked like they wanted to be there and wouldn't engage in friendly conversation. It took around 40mins for the food to arrive. My wife didn't like hers, the risotto was very wet but that's personal preference. I had the pie which was very good. Pictures online show a very difficult place in person. It's not a swish and the farm shop is more of a farm stable. Very small and doesn't hold a lot and is over priced compared to other local stores and farm shops. Needless to say won't be visiting again Ample parking, food was nice though.

Nice location, food was actually really good quality and feels really homemade and priced competitively. One very important thing I’d like to say though(in my opinion), is although the service was good, I didn’t expect to be paying a 12.5% service automatically added to the bill. I mean it’s a farm shop restaurant not a gastropub or fine dining in the city etc. There is nothing exceptional that is delivered on the service front. I am a big believer that gratuity should be earned by going above and beyond expectations. Like everyone, I know it’s “optional”, I’ll always pay it if it’s added but just didn’t expect a farm shop restaurant to be doing this that’s all. It really seems to be the trend these days and in my opinion it is not right, but I do understand the reason behind it. That’s the only reason I didn’t leave 5 star, and also the reason it won’t be on the top of my list of places to revisit.

Visited for a Sunday lunch. The food was great but the serving staff were slightly uninterested and there wasn’t much atmosphere. Perhaps would be better on a summers day.

Wow really had high expectations for this place, but was really disappointed. I have provided feed back to the manager for the visit survey, not response. Drinks were fine and the bread nibbles was excellent. The Sunday lunch mains were not upto standards. Chicken supreme was dry, gravy served in messy jug was very watery. I ordered the pork belly, asked the waiter will there be cracking and he said yes. The dish arrived waiter apologized for no cracking 😱. The pork belly was hence fatty and gelatinous a difficult eat. Also the bottom half of the belly was tough and chewy. The apple sauce was missing. The vegetables were fine, cauliflower cheese was tasty. When I went to pay the bill, I got another apology for no crackling. There was no good will, still took payment including the service charge. I was not going to review this place as I was waiting to see if could resolve the issues with the manager. This has not happened. Merry Christmas!

We popped in for a quick lunch on a recommendation from a local shop, and were very impressed. Delicious ploughman’s, fish cakes and scotch egg. The piccalilly was particularly good and we bought a pot in the farm shop. Service was efficient and friendly.

Looks a bit average from the outside but the café is fantastic. 5 star food. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Great spot to grab a light lunch before a funeral down the road at GreenAcres. All clearly homemade, lovely tasting and great rustic atmosphere. Whats not to like? £6 for a very tasty but small sausage roll. Homemade, yes. £6, no. £101 for 7 of us hence the one star off.

A lovely little farm shop with a cafe. The soup, cake & coffee are yummy, so I must return to sample more. Rumour has it that their breakfasts are very tasty too. A good selection of produce for sale in the shop.There is also a fish truck on a Thursday lunchtime which sells a fantastic selection of the best fish & seafood.

Wonderful coffee, very tasty and always hot Breakfast is lovely. There is a large menu choice and selection of additional items, all beautifully presented. Looks good, tastes good.

Really exceptionally good espresso (I had two, just to make sure) and an amazingly chargrilled bacon sandwich on sourdough which I can still taste now. Fantastic

Applegarth Cafe has multiple WiFi signals but none for customer's. I asked if I could use their WiFi today quickly digitally sign a document and they refused. I was gobsmacked so left. I am now sitting in the Village Cafe in Grayshott using their WiFi and eating the breakfast I would have eaten at Applegarth.

Came for lunch, food was really tasty and absolutely no complaints. The waiting staff although friendly, were not good and lacked the basic understanding of service. Drinks sat on the bar waiting to be brought to the table, whilst you ate your food without your drink, when serving they crossed in front of you, one passing her sleeve across my food. Coffee served with the option of sugar but no spoons, removal of plates when you were still eating. Basic things that let the place down.

Great service and great food! We had a family reunion over lunch and felt very relaxed with no pressure to leave. It was interesting afterwards to wander in the lovely gardens and see where the fresh produce is grown. Highly recommend this place - I'm sure we will be back!

We decided to meet here for a work meeting (just 3 of us) it was the perfect choice! Friendly, helpful staff with the most delicious food! Service was just the right speed. Farm shop was full of amazing goodies. I would advise you to book a table so you're not disappointed. Would definitely return.

A lovely variety of foods on offer and service was swift. Obviously popular at lunchtime as it was so full we had to eat outside, but we were given blankets to keep us cosy! Portions are really big, especially the fish and chips. The on site shop is lovely too with lots of interesting items on offer.

Amazing cheeseboard and lovely petits fours for dessert. Gorgeous place.

Excellent food, really delicious. Great service as always. I come here often to meet friends for lunch or for evening meals for occasions. Highly recommend. We also get take away sourdough pizzas which are fantastic, the coleslaw is fab too.

(عربي👇🏼) We went there for breakfast, but the selection for that was limited. We had coffee and pastries only. The place is nice and they grow their own veggies and have their own honey too. The place is cosy. The food I’ve been told for lunch is good ( haven’t tried it) The ambiance is cosy and warm. The fireplace was lit and warm. They have other activities like a cookery school, pottery and art. This place in the summer can be nice. Will definitely visit again. رحنا للفطور وما كان فية الا قهوة و معجنات. كانت الاختبارات محددة. يقولون الاكل هنا روعة و خاصة فترة الغداء. لانهم يزرعون محاصيلهم في مزرعتهم و عندهم عسل لذيذ من انتاجهم ايضا. المكان كان دافي و هادئ. المشب كان فية نار وطلع المكان حلو و دافي فية اشياء اخرى تنباع عندهم و موجود مدرسة طبخ و فخار و رسم اتوقع. المكان روووعة في الصيف. اي زيارة اخرى شش

The menu looked promising but our mushroom burger wasn’t really a burger it was mushrooms in a burger roll. Not much taste and rather expensive. Lunch for two 45 quid just the main course sparkling water and pear juice. Certainly will not go again although service friendly and swift.

This is the most lovely spot to come to..so friendly and the food is fabulous. We had a mini lunch today and the tables were all spaced out and all the staff were wearing masks and we felt more than comfortable. Well done! Thank you. Louise and Peter

Amazing food. A wonderful experience

A really lovely and magical setup for our annual Christmas get together. The separate pods are excellent and it’s lovely to be self contained. The food is really really good. However, this is an expensive experience. You’re paying for great quality foods.

Good food, lovely service. Had a lovely lunch, though my fish starter (goujons) was a little overcooked. Otherwise very nice meal.

Had a family get together with my sister, neice & all. Fantastic food, all beautifully cooked & presented. Worth every penny & a must go to place to eat. Great service, wonderful afternoon.

What a surprise! We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary by coming here in August. Initially coming for breakfast (Applegarth has a good reputation for its breakfasts) we learned CoVid restrictions mean there's no breakfast for the moment. We had coffee on the covered decking as we watched the studios opening up, then went off to shop in Grayshott before returning for lunch (table booked, as it's popular despite not being packed) which was the surprise- It's all about flavour in the Applegarth Restaurant, so you'd be forgiven for expecting small servings. You won't get them, the portions are very generous (probably due to the local and home-grown produce reducing costs) Check the meaty filling in that half-eaten pie (the wife was attacking it before I'd finished my photos!) Leafy greens are grown in planting towers onsite, that require hardly any groundspace and much less care than traditionally grown produce. Environmentally sound and noticeable in the flavour, this gives Applegarth an advantage over other farms and restaurants. The staff knew we were coming for an Anniversary (I'd emailed but not booked) so they booked the table and gave us an Anniversary card, how lovely! The shop (not pictured) is packed with great quality local and homegrown produce at sensible prices (it's not your budget supermarket of mass produced longlife stock, but it's definitely not going to break the bank either. I'm a low paid worker and I was happy) and outdoors has comfortable seating in beautiful surroundings. Check the website for upcoming events, cooking classes, theme evenings. The center attraction for the garden is a pergola which has the outdoor kitchen in the summer (I'm looking forward to enjoying pizzas there in a few months!) What a lovely way to spend an anniversary, enjoying delicious food served by happy and friendly staff. We'll be back soon, the summer dining and outdoor pizzas can wait

What a find. We visited for Sunday lunch to kick off our holidays. Everyone was lovely and food exceeded expectations. Great outdoor space. Fantastic farm shop as well. Will be keen to try their cookery school in the future as well. We'll be definitely back.

We had such a delicious lunch at Applegarth. The flavour combinations were well thought out and ingredients very fresh. I would definitely recommend trying the black forest brûlée and peach trifle deserts.

We were on a day out, meeting up with family. Having enjoyed walking at Ramster Gardens, we made our way to Applegarth Farm for lunch. We all, children too, enjoyed a great meal, lovely atmosphere and we all loved our visit and hope to come again! I had bbq spare ribs, wonderfully tender! Would definitely recommend. We also visited and enjoyed the art exhibition and shop with local grown vegetables etc.

Only went to the restaurant. Good service and interesting menu but no lunchtime snacks, so if you want a sandwich you will need to go elsewhere!

Always lovely food fresh cooked. Either different dishes or familiar with a twist. The drinks, including soft drinks, are local and again different Nice outside space. A very delightful food experience all round.

Went on a Sunday for lunch. Very slow being booked in at door, despite having booked, no smile or greeting from girl on booking in. Only given one menu and had to ask for another one which took its time arriving. Mix up over us booking for terrace and they insisting we were booked inside. Poor taking of order, I had to start again twice as the girl failed to get it down. Potato salad missed off order of food arriving, we asked twice for it, and finally it arrived after we had finished our main courses! No water given to us despite asking, yet they put out blue glasses for water on the table. The food was good, but service and staff attitude let the place down.

Love the outside food grill and the shop inside had some pesto pasta and coleslaw was amazing would definitely recommend if your in the area

What a beautiful place. The farm shop was well stocked with a large variety of products. We were then surprised to find a stunning garden where you sit amongst planters which are growing vegetables surrounded with the smells of the grill and music playing. We felt transported on holiday - and the food was also exceeded our expectations. We are moving to the area soon and this will definitely be somewhere we frequent!

Applegarth has long been a favourite in our area, and through the difficult times of the pandemic they have gone to new heights - still stocking great food and more, plus moving to online, click and collect and deliveries. They’ve set up a system where you can donate meals when you shop. They also installed a pizza oven and do fantastic take-away meals. I’ve lived in both London and Manhattan, but Applegarth take-away pizzas rule supreme, believe me! If you’re not into pizza, choose something else - it’s going to be delicious! The staff are really great and nothing is too much trouble. A real gem of a place. Edit: a new pizza - Dr Seuss - is the best they’ve done, I think! Amazing!

We were due to visit a different place for lunch on my birthday last week, but they stopped serving food before we planned to arrive, so we looked for a new place and what a little gem we found!!The staff were absolutely wonderful. Nothing was too much of an issue and they were able to accommodate us for one of the best lunches we’ve had in ages. The food was so flavourful with many of the ingredients were sourced from their garden. The burger was exceptional and it was amazing to see it all cooked fresh in the garden kitchen. After a beautiful lunch, we popped into the farm shop onsite and treated ourselves to lots of yummy stuff. The fruit was so perfect, we ended up munching on our two hour drive home. The pork pies and sausage rolls are also highly recommended. Overall, if you’re looking for the best lunch in the area… look no further!

We had a takeout. My wife loved her quiche, but I found the sausage roll meat quite tough. And the pecan plait pastry was really quite dire.

Second visit in one week. Can't fault it, even laid on entertainment in the form of a duckling running amok, no safely in owners pond I've been reliably informed. Just love everything about this place and the people who work there.

We only popped into Applegarth for a Coffee, but every one around us were busy eating and enjoying their meals. Will deffinatly go back for a meal soon . Bought some great salad in a bag there . Love it.

From start to finish we were very impressed by the staff at Applegarth Farms. They are truly on the ball and aim to please! We had booked our private potting shed table back in April for end of May, and the restaurant sent reservation confirmation via email a day before our visit. It also gave us a chance to reconfirm our dietary restrictions. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed (by staff who all wore masks!) and the staff remembered our dietary requests. We were promptly seated, given a happy birthday card because we had noted the special occasion when we booked online, and provided with menus. We then ordered drinks, which arrived in short time and then placed our orders. Our whole time at the restaurant , nothing was too much trouble and staff proactively checked in on us to make sure we were being looked after. The potting shed table was a perfect first dining out experience after more than a year of not being able to eat out in restaurants. The table in the shed can easily fit a family of 6 and even 8 in a squeeze. Outside there were other tables and everyone seemed to be spaced out by at least 6 feet or more. Hand sanitisers were placed on every table and the food was well cooked. I felt the mains menu was a bit more simplistic than typical with a burger, a fishcake, a ribs and a Sunday roast option. Still, everything was well made and the staff were kind in offering substitutions to meet our dietary requirements. The staff here definitely made the experience just flawless from start to finish! Even with a follow-up thank you email the day after. No hesitations recommending Applegarth Farms and we shall return!

Always superb. Today was as good as it gets. Applegarth really raising its game beyond measure in the menu stakes! Wonderful offerings amongst which, the Moules in Perry and Clotted Cream surpassed all expectations. Divine. Lovely atmosphere, great service. Faultless.

A bit twee but a good place to take a girlfriend to!

Had a party of 10 at Applegarth today. Was absolutely spot on. Everyone really enjoyed the food, all ages. Been several times now and every time is delicious. Looking forward to the outside kitchen opening up again soon.

A great place to visit for produce or amazing plate food.

Heard the pizzas were good, but just had some and they were amazing !!!! Flavours were incredible and the little pot of salad was so tasty ! Much better than Dominoes and much better value !!!! Thank you so much, will be ordering more in the future. So lucky to have you on the doorstep Best wishes J

We ordered ahead for our Saturday night treat. The food is always great and we placed our order on Saturday morning to make sure we could get a slot. Turned up and our order not in the system. The young lady out front was super polite and asked me to come back in 40 minutes. No fuss. When I came back to collect it turned out I had incorrectly placed our order for Wednesday. All my fault. Food was, again, excellent. We had the burger, the falafel, the ribs and a pizza. First class. Despite my embarrassment we will be back!

Delicious home homemade food, the cafe is a great places for lunch or breakfast but sadly due to covid not open, but they are doing take aways and can still shop in their fabulous deli to take out. Well worth a visit

Forget everything you know about takeaway pizza! These pizzas are the most delicious meals that happen to come in a pizza box - we ordered the Honey Bee, Truffle Hog, Holy Cow and Funky Chicken. Holy Cow is the most melt in the mouth, heartwarming meal, it's insane that this topping is on a pizza but it works. The smell of the Truffle Hog blew us away, it is a white pizza with a bechamel sauce, pure comfort food. Honey Bee's honeyed nuts and goat's cheese took me straight to Italy, the flavours were so well balanced. Funky Chicken was the kid's favourite, a slightly simpler combination of flavours compared to the others but equally amazing. This has opened up a whole new takeaway option during lockdown but this is not your average pizza - thank you Applegarth for giving me another excuse not to cook! Looking forward to trying the other flavours soon.

Ordered 2 pizzas on recommendation, Honey Bee and Funky Chicken - ten minute drive home did not result in soggy bottomed pizza and we both felt like we had eaten a proper meal as the toppings were very generous. Really tasty, beautifully seasoned with great depth of flavour - we will definitely be ordering our pizza from Applegarth in future! The restaurant is currently closed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Great food for our new year lockdown celebration.

Impeccable customer service from this delightful farm shop. The produce from the greengrocery and the deli is superb; absolutely delicious as is the wide selection of other items in the shop - especially the chocolate cake! A couple of examples of the great customer service: 1: When shopping for a specific loaf of bread sold here, it was unavailable (all sold out) but the girl behind the counter offered to put one aside for me to collect the next morning. 2: The chocolate cake I wanted was sold out - she checked out back but alas, sold out. "I can have one made for you if you like - just tell me when you would like it"... outstanding! baking one of their cakes especially for us. While the produce is pricey, it is excellent and from our perspective, very much worth it!

Standards have not slipped since we last went to Applegarth - the food was delicious - plant based burger and winter root tagine didn’t disappoint and the coffee is at such a high standard - these guys know their stuff - service and Covid safety was brilliant 😎

If you are getting really bored of your own cooking in lockdown, I would highly recommend the take away options from Applegarth. Great quality, generous portion and easy to order. We had the burgers and they were delicious. Applegarth have done so much for the community during the last few months and they massively deserve our support at this time.
