Annie's Burger Shack & Freehouse in Nottingham

Visited as a group of 8, the steins of cocktails were great and the burgers were yummy, staff coped well with all requests and were very attentive.

We ordered from here on Uber eats as I used to love this place. The first time, the food arrived stone cold with the cream cheese missing for the French toast and an incorrect coffee. I decided to give it a second chance and I ordered 2 burgers for my daughter and I as a treat one evening. The order took over 2 hours and 40 minutes. 3 different Uber delivery drivers attempted to pick it up and it was never ready for them to collect. I ended up having to make my daughter an alternative dinner, and she went to bed disappointed. I’m gutted as I don’t think I could hand my money over to them again, and it used to be one of my favourite places to eat in Nottingham!

Gone downhill. I thought we'd give Annie's another visit. We ordered drinks and lemny burgers each with wedges. Food came fairly quickly, but unfortunately, they hadn't served our drinks so had to ask for those. The burgers were much smaller than I remember and the buns were quite unappetising. The buger itself was nice but the wedges hadn't been cooked through. Server took those back no problem, but unfornately, left us sat there with our burgers getting cold. So we ate those first and had wedges as our second course. They were also nice when they were cooked properly. We then at there with our empty dishes for 25 mins. No further acknowledgement from any of the staff, no offer of drinks, dessert menu etc. We eventually got up and put our coats on, which didn't even prompt a second glance either. We then waited at the desk to pay, again bing more or less ignored by the man there, faffing with what I assume was a takeaway order computer. It has always been a place of mixed reviews for us, but the food usually swayed us back. However this time, the size, and quality reductions they have chosen to make have gone too far. There are too many other good restaurants to spend our cash in, we wont be going back.

So very, very, disappointing. Its been going downhill for years but this visit will be our last. Staff can't be bothered, dirty, scruffy, missing half our meal, cold.. I could go on and on. It'd be a joke at half the price but at £15 a burger is insulting. Bye bye Annie, you had a good thing once. A long time ago.

A large group of us visited here for a Christmas meal and it was anything but festive. In fact, it was the worst dining experience of my life. I had the ‘Monte Cristo Christmas’ burger. It arrived after sitting on the pass for a while (along with lots of basket of fries and other diners’ food) and I can only describe it as a plate of sadness. The first burger arrived and didn’t even have a proper sesame seeded burger bun. The bun resembled a small Warburton’s sandwich bap that you can buy from supermarkets but to go one worse, it looked like someone had taken a nibble out of it as well. So off it went back to the kitchen to be replaced. The ‘turkey’ if that what it was, was deep fried beyond oblivion and was so tough, I thought it was going to challenge me to a fight outside. I could hardly chew through it and at times was left thinking ‘what am I eating here? Feathers? A beak?’ Or a different bird entirely, such as a vulture. Next up was the ‘Bavarian ham’. To call it Bavarian ham is a travesty to Bavaria. It had a wafer thin appearance, resembling a small ear, smothered in a vibrant coloured cheese which was supposedly Swiss. The gravy tasted like Bisto but came in a coffee cup and all I could then think about was, ‘I’m dipping my fries and burger into an Americano’. On the subject of fries, these were also terrible and were brought out 30 mins after the burgers at which point people had either eaten their burgers or had waited for the fries long enough for the burgers (and fries) to go cold. The fries had no flavour and despite seasoning them with half the salt shaker and risking a visit to a cardiologist, they remained lacking of any flavour. I can’t even begin to describe the ‘Hawaiian Coleslaw’. It’s true what they say ‘we first eat with our eyes’ and what I saw was a horror show that I did not intend getting my mouth anywhere near. What else could possibly go wrong I thought? At least I’ve got a lemon meringue pie to indulge in, or had I? Apparently the lemon meringue hadn’t been delivered to the restaurant so I had to choose an alternative dessert and was offered one off the main menu. I chose the Cream Bourbon Pecan Pie. 10 mins later came the dreaded ‘I’m sorry we also don’t have any pecan pie’. At this point I was beyond done and hadn’t got the energy to pick anything else. A friend took pity on me and offered me a spare Trillionaires Tart that someone in our party had ordered but left after the burger debacle. The dessert was admittedly quite nice but wasn’t enough to save the day. We were given a partial refund off the bill. The waiting on staff were trying their best but others were about as useful as a pair of sunglasses on a person with one ear. It’s a real shame as I have previously visited Annie’s twice before for lunch and breakfast (this was over 2 1/2 years ago) but both experiences were very good. I Hope Annie’s can be turned around and the dining experience improves.

On a Christmas do yesterday. Previously visited when Annie was actually in the building and loved it. But Annie as now left the building and its a shambolic excuse for a restaurant. Food preorder was sent the the restaurant way in advance of our parties visit and yet still when it came to pudding did not have what we ordered. We were asked to rehouse. However even some people's second choice was also unavailable. The burgers came out slowly. Think mine was one of the first to arrive. However the fries arrived a good 30 minutes after my burger which is shameful as they were sitting on the kitchen serving portal with a male staff member standing next to them. Someone enquired about the missing fries to be told they will ne bought over in a few minutes. This is only fries for goodness sake. By the time fries did arrive burgers were cold. Stay away from the Christmas burger, a colleague had it and the chicken was dry and frazzled on a Warburtons plain white bun with something that resembled a human ear in it also. We assumed it was the ham. How long has bisto gravy granules been home made gravy?. Overall an absolutely dreadful experience and we certainly will be be returning. Annie would be embarrassed her name is still associated with this dreadful place. I've only given it a score of one because I had too to complete this review. Unfortunately the 1 score is hugely complimentary to this place as its appalling.

Oh dear Annie's. A much loved & desirable place to dine has taken a turn for the worst. A Friday afternoon in Dec & we're the only large party dining? Years gone by it would have been packed out. Food not up to standard, cold unappealing fries, weird coleslaw, very runny beef dripping (like cheap watery gravy). Food orders incorrect despite ordering in advance. Some people had to wait ages for their fries despite already having their burgers. Desserts, don't even mention Desserts, disaster. They said we haven't got some of the Christmas menu Desserts but you can order from our main menu, oh wait but then several aren't available 🤔.......! I believe we eventually got a discount off the bill but took some negotiation! Sort yourselves out otherwise you'll just be another long gone favourite that closes down due to poor quality food & lack of customer service.

Went for a work Christmas meal and specifically asked for no mayo on my burger. I'm not allergic, I just don't like it. Burger arrived absolutely pasted in mayo so I sent it back. The staff were very quick in bringing me another burger (suspiciously quick). That's when I realised they'd just scraped the mayo off and brought it straight back. Thanks! A lot of our party's food had things wrong, missing or just poor quality. I'd heard how good this place used to be but I doubt the original Annie would be eating here now. It's just BAD!

Service was good, and the food was alright, and that's about it. Ordered the buffalo ranch burger - two chillies worth of heat on the menu, but sadly absolutely nothing detectable by the time it got to the tongue. The burger itself was decent, the fried chicken was crispy and moist, but missing any noticable seasoning. Sweet potato fries were again, alright. Could have been crispier. That being said, overall portion sizes were decent. Decided to add a side of fried pickles and thought they sounded good - sadly they were even more in need of a good crisp than the fries and were best described as flaccid. Coffee was cheap, but it was also essentially of a premier-inn/weatherspoons self serve quality. All in all, probably about 10-20% more expensive than the quality and taste (or lack thereof) would suggest.

The toilet roll holder fell off the wall and hit me on the nose. The other toilet stall was out of order. Food was ok, don’t ask for champagne.

It hurts to write this because Annie's used to be such a unique and brilliant place. No longer. Today my wife and little one treated me to what was supposed to be a birthday celebration. We ordered food and waited approx 30 mins. Not going to argue with that, it was fairly busy. The order came out, and there were sauces missing. Again, not an issue and the waitress immediately rectified this. When I had ordered my burger I asked for no mayonnaise. Not a ridiculous request in my opinion. My burger came out, and there was a huge dollop of mayo on the bun and burger. Again, these things happen. I pointed this out to staff, and they apologised. Approximately 1 minute later by burger came out again. Lifted the lid and the mayo had clearly been scraped/washed off but it was still all over the salad and bun. Mayo makes me sick, and I can accept mistakes, but not blatant disregard for food hygiene or customers wishes. I pointed this out again and approximately a minute later burger came out again.. STILL with mayo on it. I explained again that I have asked for no mayo and this is really not acceptable as it makes me sick. My burger was taken away for a third time. By this point my family had already finished their food, and I was left watching them eat. The meal was pretty much ruined at this point. My wife had also given staff a cake to bring out to the table for my birthday in advance of the meal (I had no knowledge of this) My wife went to the bathroom, and whilst she was there, the waitress came out. Plonked the cake down on the table still in the box with unlit candles layed out on the top and walked off. Just had to laugh at this point it was that painful 😂 The burger that came 3 times and then never came was taken off the bill, but no other discount or even apology. The front of house staff member even said "its only vegan mayo" Yes in that case it wouldn't have made me sick, but not really the point. Not am outrageous request to ask for something to be ommited that I actively despise. I worry for people with allergies that eat here, because the chefs clearly have no regard for food safety standards/handling and sadly seem to show no pride in what they are putting out. The place has gone massively down hill and we won't be returning.

Like many, it hurts to write this but Annie's just isn't.....well, Annie's anymore. Certainly the burgers have shrunk, though veggie/vegan burgers ordered by friends have survived the cull. I went chicken and it was so very dry, with very little of the promised sauces and toppings. I brought a number of colleagues from around the country and really wanted to wow them, such a shame. This was, for many years, our go to. On to other venues now, but will reflect back on some very fond memories of burgers gone by.

Been coming to annies for a few years now. Always have the Caribbean burger. On our recent visit I ordered the same burger and could not believe how much the portion size has been reduced (you can see the comparison from the pictures below from last year and today, also only had half a dozen wedges. The prizes have stayed the same or gone up despite the smaller portion size. Such a shame as it used to be excellent. Also to note that after customers left their tables, they was not getting wiped and cleaned down. This is pretty basic hygiene practices that wasn't being achieved. Unfortunately probably won't be returning

I am shocked and saddened to be writing this. We have been a fan of Annie's since she was even at the Navigation, our kids grew up with Annie's as their favourite restaurant. Money is tight for all, so this was our first visit since January, and what has happened!? This place was once busy every night of the week, so walking into just a few sittings really should have made me question why! Gone are the days of Annie walking round engaging with customers and perhaps overseeing quality. Quite simply, although prices have marginally increased, portion sizes have massively decreased. Burgers are mediocre at best now, and are the size of what we're used to being a child's meal. I had a handful of skin on fries which made McDonalds seem generous, and half the wedges were unedible due to the shear size and being undercooked. For a place so quiet the wait time of over an hour is ridiculous, and not everything was available on the menu. All in all we spent a sizable amount of money for a family of 5 to celebrate a birthday, and we all left unsatisfied and still rather pekish. As our family first choice restaurant for many years now, sadly we shall not be returning. The table beside us were basically complaining of the exact same thing! I'm hoping Annie returns from an extended holiday and gets this place back in shape or sadly I fear it will not see another year.

First burger tepid, second burger slightly less tepid with missing onion ring and no replacement fries!! I came for my husband's birthday and was a bit apprehensive regarding some of the negative reviews, but came in open minded. I really wish I hadn't bothered. My first Boston Nibbler burger was less than tepid. I waved to get the Manager's attention, who chose to ignore me. A nice waitress embarrassed said she would get it replaced. I really HATE when go for a meal and you end up eating independently, or getting parts of the meal seperately. It defeats the purpose of paying for a meal. So, the replacement burger turned up about 10 mins later, by which point I had already finished my fries (no replacement bought). When I disected the burger i found out there was only one onion ring, not the two stated. It was also marginally warmer than the first!! Birthday meal ruined. Staff, apart from Manager seemed attentive. Especially the lovely Gez on the bar who let me try a few beer samples to decide what I liked. Unfortunately, the staff and the Beer do not make up for the lacking burgers. At £16 each approx, I'm not going to lie, I expected far more. Avoid with a bargepole would be my advice.

Food was lovely & great service. Our orders was taken really quick and food came out not long after!! So many burgers to choose from we were spoiled for choice. Prices was great also we would definitely recommend to friends and family.
