Lovely place to stop for lunch. Very nice bagels and good service. We tried to get in a few times in the evening but it is always very busy so get there early to get a seat.

I visited this place a while ago with my partner and we had a great time back then because of the live jazz music and nice atmosphere. We recently went back again and this time we tried a couple of sides and a pizza and it was a pleasant surprise. The starters were very nicely seasoned and cooked, it was delicious but the pizza could have been a bit better it was too salty. The atmosphere was the same nice as before. But the most important thing is that the staff was friendly and provided very good service. We definitely will come back another time.

One of my very favourite bars in York, located on Bishy Road, well worth the 10 minute walk, if you are staying in the City Centre…..very relaxed atmosphere, with predominantly locals….nice reasonably priced Italian food (does not operate every night)….🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Had a great pizza, an amazing roast potato side dish, and drinks here on Friday evening. Some veggie and vegan options on the menu too. You can't reserve tables in advance, but there were plenty free when we arrived at 18.45ish. However, it was starting to fill up by the time we left at 20.15ish. Tasty food, friendly staff, good drink selection, decent music on, nice atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more on a Friday night to kick off the weekend.

Cute vibe with fairy lights. DJ but not loud club music - still sit and chat. Lots of space and space for groups. Barman was off with my friend who asked about soft drink options. He "couldn't be bothered" to tell her

Amazing bagels here! £10 for a bagel and a coffee, well worth it. The smoked salmon bagel was fantastic and the vegan option was just as good too. Great value for the size of the bagels. Would recommend!

Great bagels and coffee in the morning at the weekends. Not that busy at the moment with other options nearby, but that won't last long due to the quality. Pizza and pasta in the evening is fantastic and reasonably priced. I'm a massive fan of Veltins which is served here so can't complain. Good selection of ales too. The atmosphere is relaxed and the music played is great. They have live music on certain nights. Dogs are very much welcome and if a dog bowl isn't already out just ask.

Wow wow filled bagels. Amazing breakfast. Four fillings to choose from and the Italian one was so tasty. Definitely recommend. £10 including coffee.

Clearly very popular and rightly so, with a happy buzz and friendly and super-efficient staff. The skin-on chips which accompanied our wonderfully fresh beer-battered haddock were superb!

Despite having been to The Angel on the Green a number of times before lockdown and having great food and a great time, myself and my family visited last night and had a very poor experience. We arrived, our drinks order was taken after some wait, and when they arrived one was missing. Not a huge problem. The red wine was served cold - very unusual, and when the forgotten glass of wine arrived it was the wrong size - again not a huge problem but not great. We then ordered our food - 2x vegan pizzas, 1x pepperoni, 1x scallops and 2x chips. Our food arrived (again) missing one vegan pizza, which the waitress who brought the food (and seemed highly inconvenienced by the task) did not notice. We notified the man who had taken our order, who explained that it was his last shift for some time and he had already mentally checked out (?!?). I understand that service jobs are tiring and difficult but to tell a customer that is completely unprofessional. Both portions of chips were tiny (about eight chips - unacceptable at £3.50 a portion), and the chips were undercooked and looked anaemic. The three of us who received our meals began to eat - the meat pizza and scallops were not great, but fine for pub food but the vegan pizza was unpleasant - way too much plastic-tasting vegan cheese. It was obvious that the chef had never tasted the vegan pizza, nowadays it is very easy to find good quality vegan cheese (especially if you are charging an additional £2 for it), or to use it sparingly if changing suppliers is not possible. One bite and the chef would have realised they had used way, way too much. At one point my father began to choke on his pizza - not at all the fault of the restaurant but none of the staff noticed, brought over water or offered any assistance until asked, although we obviously needed it. When the missing vegan pizza arrived over ten minutes later, this was again unpleasant. We all finished our meals as we were very hungry but not one of us enjoyed them. 10% was knocked off the pizza which was late, which seemed like not nearly enough as it cost nearly £13 (plastic cheese included). Overall, bad atmosphere with staff who clearly don’t want to be there, with poor-to-average food at a premium price tag. Will not be back and will recommend others avoid. The second star is given exclusively to the chap who took our payment who was cheery, friendly, and apologetic. Do away with the others and have him in charge!

Had an absolutely brilliant night here on a recent trip to York. The food was great (I had a last minute change of heart and got the fish and chips - my friends and I agreed that I'd won on the best meal choice). The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. They helped us move to a table closer to the live music that night and suggested some great wines. Speaking of the live music, if you're in the area on a Sunday then the Gypsy Jazz night they host is amazing. We all had a great time, it was loud enough to be atmospheric but we could still talk and played some well known songs along with some interesting ones we weren't familiar with. Can't wait to come back again!

Service was poor. Member of staff had 'an attitude '. Main course arrived before starter which had been forgotten. We were asked if it would be ok to have both at the same time. When we said, no, mains were taken back and starter came.lt was fine. However, pizzas had simply been put under a heat and were dry and tough to eat. Our bill was not correct. We told the member of staff and after about ten minutes it was sorted out. At no point did anyone apologise. We will not be going back.

Incredible pizza! Has to be said outright. With a lowkey and cosy decor, friendly staff, and a great selection of drinks, Angel on the Green is always a good place to meet and chill. I always love a good trip to Angel!

One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had, absolutely fab beer, I had the Session King as recommended by the staff, so good! Kids food was also fantastic, and service fast and friendly.

We were vey well looked after from the moment we arrived this evening. Excellent craft beer to start, and the hummus starter with olives was delicious. We then had a lovely chilled bottle of Viognier, and the best pizza we have ever had. If we lived in York we would be going here all the time! Thank you!

Poor service.. pre booked table several hrs prior to arrival,waiting 30min + for a drink after been seated🤨 made feel very uncomfortable because staff set wrong table...menu list's fries item served are fat chips,to be told that's what we call fries🤔 very average food at a premium price..110% would never return or recommend to top it off I've never seen so many flys! Howeve the wine was good possible because its served via a bottle😬

They were running a reduced menu and adapting to Covid controls when we visited. Nevertheless my partner and I were very content with the beverage selection and our pizzas. The service was excellent, knowledgeable and helpful and the atmosphere had a really nice vibe. A good place to go for a relaxed drink and pizza for sure!

The breakfast was good. Nice sausages, and they were happy to make a few of my topical swaps with no fuss. The coffee was good, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff were cool. Tables were a bit wobbly, but didn’t affect the meal too much.

Food and drink were tasty and reasonably priced. I would recommend the pepperoni pizza.

I came here with my gran and we shared a portion of chips and a pizza which were both lovely. The girl who served us was very friendly. It’s very much like a café rather than a pub and could be made a bit more welcoming and cosier.

This place has it all: relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, great drinks and fantastic food. An eclectic mix of families, couples and groups of friends. Honest, well made, great food served amoung an array of atmospheric twinkly lights. We had delicious starters- the duck croquettes are a must - and the salt and pepper squid literally melted in the mouth. The truffle pizza was a triumph- I’ve heard they’re famous for their pizzas and rightly so. I will definitely be racing back to this hotspot when I am next in York, hopefully it won’t be too long!

A very good eating experience. We ended up eating there twice over the weekend. The boards are great and the small plates delightful. Would recommend to anyone looking for good authentic cooking.

Nosotros esperamos. . . . . y esperé . . Había 3 personas trabajando frente a la casa, y un par de ellas caminaron directamente hacia nuestra mesa y la otra miró en nuestra dirección. En ningún momento nos ofrecieron menús, y mucho menos ¡nos quitaron los platos sucios!Cuando salimos 10 minutos después, abordé la falta de servicio con la persona que parecía estar a cargo. Parecía disculparse, pero para ser sincera, todo era un poco deslucido. Afortunadamente, nuestra terrible experiencia aquí significó que fuimos a un lugar mucho mejor, y aunque este es un lugar local para nosotros, no volveremos.

Extremely poor experience, arrived just after 12 looking to have lunch, there were a few other people with coffee sat at tables. We were ignored for well over ten minutes, it was as if we were invisible. The staff were more interested in having an easy morning, sorting the cutlery or adjusting the music than seeing if we would like to order food (they weren't even bothering to clear vacated tables!)

Had a great night with a light bite to eat and plenty of beers. Quirky and vibrant atmosphere with very friendly and accommodating staff, especially Callum who entertained us throughout the evening. Look forward to coming back!

When entering we were totally ignored when I asked where we could sit they didn’t even greet us . If this is how it starts I wonder what’s to follow . It doesn’t take much to make people feel welcome !

Really disappointed with the breakfast this morning, over cooked poached eggs, unseasoned ‘smashed avocado’ , bland/dry and badly presented. Come here a lot for dinner always pretty good but breakfast not to be recommended! Mentioned to staff not interested.

Nothing remarkable here although the Angel does offer palatable food although not brilliant value-for-money.The welcome from the barman was fairly indifferent and disappointing, questioning our booking with something approaching nonchalance.The mutton stew was nice enough if very overpriced for what was offered.The halloumi and portobello mushroom burger was tasty enough although the chips and accompaniments were not especially good.The beer and wine is massively overpriced for the quality received. Having said that, it was fairly busy for a Sunday night and so perhaps the market stands such price against quality?

Loved it here, welcoming, friendly and a great offering including well chosen ales, other beers and nice wines by the glass. We enjoyed their fish and cheese boards, well presented pizza and a nice collection of Californian wines. Loved the vibe and dog friendly in the bar.

Staying in a little guest house just down the street and the place was packed when I walked past early on a Monday evening, which I figured must be a good sign. Good choice of ales on tap and lovely friendly staff. I had the mushroom and halloumi burger and it was sooooo tasty! Chips were also decent. Place had a nice cosy vibe and definitely didn’t feel self conscious being in here on my own. Also noticed the place is both child and dog friendly, which is a bonus.

Stumbled upon this place when visiting our daughter for a weekend in York. We hadn’t booked but we managed to get a table and the four of us had a really good meal. The beer battered haddock was one of the best I’ve had. Pizzas were a little small for the price but all in all I would thoroughly recommend this place. Only down side, and the reason I didn’t give it full marks is that we had to leave after our meal because we were cold (similar to the review 2 days ago). Yes, it’s cold outside so I have some sympathy but if it was a little warmer inside we certainly would have stayed and spent more money on deserts and drinks.... however, overall, very good!

Been here so many times , we’re local, summer is great , but in winter it is so cold , freezing in fact. Something needs to be done about the heating ( or lack of it). Nothing worse than sitting in a wine bar shivering .

Beautiful place, spotlessly clean, always busy with a good vibe and pleasant staff. The beers are always top notch and they very regularly.. if you want to visit in the evening at weekend its advisable to book..

Good service, good food, good selection of beverages. Some nights they will have live music. Drop in or book ahead. Has outdoor seating but is close to the road so it can be a bit noisey with the cars passing by.

So cosy, food is amazing, brilliant deicide and lovely atmosphere. What more could you want?!

Walking down Bishopthorpe Road there are are several really good pubs and taverns and Angel On The Green is a great example of the type of tavern to be found down this very long street.

We ate here on our first night in York. My kids (one coeliac) requested pizza and we tried this place as my husband and I get fed up with the usual Italian chain restaurants. The kids were happy and the gluten free pizza was delicious (I had a vegan salad and my husband had a meat platter). The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, lots of local art on the walls and lit with fairy lights.

This is a lovely, relaxed bar with a good range of mainly Italian food - pizza, pasta and boards of nibbles. The pizza is flavoursome and the staff are excellent; very friendly and quite attentive.

We sat down and had our order taken quickly. Drinks arrived and the only negative is the coke comes in half glass measures.

One of the best meals we had on our weeks visit to York . Can’t fault the service , beer or food . The place was full every evening . Speaks for itself. Try it you will not be disappointed. The coconut sagg aloo was fabulous as was the Cod risotto .

Been in a few times for drinks, lovely setting and atmosphere. First time we ate in here tonight and the food was good, however not an extensive menu but very reasonably priced for York.

Supposed to be dog friendly. Wednesday evening 7pm only bar area is dog friendly and all 3 tables occupied by people without dogs. Plenty of free tables in the restaurant. No facility to book dog friendly table so we got a takeaway from the undogfriendly Indian opposite. We won’t be going back

Just passing through and parked nearby, we walked in for morning coffee - first impressions a bit off-putting of the beer pumps and the rather rough and ready decor, however staff were friendly and polite and immediately acknowledged us, the waitress taking the order ready it back(which is the correct way to do it) and quickly served with great drinks. Quite a good menu available and seemed to be quite a few locals having brunch. Would come back one evening when in York as a good selection of wines and beers and bet there's a good atmosphere in here too! Enjoyable place to stay and staff wished us a good day on leaving! (PS toilets immaculate too)
