Andys Golden Fry in Renfrewshire

The food is decent but the staff seem pretty useless. One person was focused on a just eat order, the other staff were all standing around, chatting, drinking and checking their phones and ignoring several people waiting to place their orders. I'm sorry but this is just atrocious customer service. Not even an acknowledgement that people were waiting or an apology.

It was very quiet at lunch when there - there were only 6 sitting in in a room that can accommodate about 70. Yummy king rib cooked to order with so many chips that I could not finish them - would easily have been enough for 2! Friendly staff. Food served in polystyrene container with disposable cutlery, presumably to save on washing up. Prices were very reasonable.

Recently had king rib supper, generous portion, super fresh and very tasty indeed, prices are reasonable too

Ordered up a few bags of chips and sausage supper last night! All I will say is I will never set foot in this place again. The chips were awful, we have been ill today. The only food we all had yesterday was from this chip shop resulting in upset stomachs. The food was either not cooked properly or not cooked in fresh oil. Either way I will not be visiting again!! 😡

Your food is okay your delivery driver is creepy af won’t be getting other deliver. So he delivered a few times to my mums House he made few weird comments I thought that was that but then he found me all social platforms e.g Facebook Snapchat really not shoot about this I have no idea how he got my full name

Had been driving all day and was in the mood for something to eat after skipping on dinner. Andy's Golden Fry is a place that has had good word of mouth reviews as being one of the top Chip Shops in Scotland, having one national awards and spoken about as Renfrewshires best chippy. As for passing by Johnstone, thought I would take the chance to visit. Large chip shop with all the usual things on the menu. Ordered a Haggis Supper and a can of Irn Bru, and was freshly prepared in no time. Really good prices, as I have paid almost double in other places, with a really large portion. If in the area really worth checking out.

My partner had decided after 10pm he fancied a chippy so called Andys but actually wish I hadn't bothered for him put it this way the ice cream in the freezer wldve been warmer so the dog ended up with the fish and pie he never complains about stuff being cold but tonight he did so it must've been...so it's a no no

Currently in lockdown and had a craving for a chippy. Ordered and paid for on just eat and it arrived when it said it would. Really enjoyed it and will be back soon for more.

friendly efficient and speedy service with nice freshly cooked fish and chips served by a friendly and smiling staff who nothing was a trouble

Placed my order on Friday night about 7.30pm. lady put my curry sauce in a tub on the counter. After numerous people got their orders in front of me with fresh food coming out of the fryer it was after 8pm! The final straw was when I saw my food going into a takeaway box. Seems like they are more bothered about Just Eat orders than people coming in. I walked out even after paying it was that bad. Happy to take the £10 hit to make a point. Won't be going back there again. Such a shame as the food is pretty decent.

Popped in at 5:10PM tonought. It wasn't very busy considering the time of day. Ordered by single special fish and two pickles. I counted 13 people served before I got my meal.... with only one pickle. How long to does it take to cook a fish? Not ten minutes! Got my order at 5:20. Fish was freshly cooked. Chips were barely tepid. Pickle#2... missing! Won't be back, ever.

After the last few times of ordering from here, I'd never do it again. Even going into the place is unpleasant, I feel like a lot of the time, the girls behind the counter are snarky and rude. Funnily enough, it isn't just me that thinks this about the service, numerous other people dislike the attitude of the servers and I don't think it'll just be exclusive to those that I know. One of my orders managed to take over an hour and a half to arrive, despite myself being local to the area. There are much better chippies in the Johnstone area with much better service, I can't imagine that I'll be going here any time soon. The food isn't even good at this point either. Lmao, imagine even going here.

Great portions, decent prices, good quality fish and chips. Can get busy in peak periods but the cheerful staff have it all under control and keep track of everyone's orders. My favourite local chippy.

What can I say! This is the best wee Fish and Chip shop I’ve ever been to. The quality of food is always good. Their fish is delicious. The staff are nice and friendly. Maybe not always the quickest of service when very busy. Yet worth the wait!

The fish in this restaurant is always freshly cooked, that is because it is a popular place and there are good reasons for that. Staff are pleasant, quality of food is very good and prices accaptable

Great chips. Not dry or soggy. Busy at 5-6 but line goes quickly as plenty of staff. Have only had take away.

Well what can I say this was the worst takeaway ever. We went to Andys Golden Fry in Johnstone tonight.

I visited here on a Friday night and my friend and I were the only two in it. There were chips all over the floor and one girl doing her best to serve and collect the money whilst her colleague stood tapping the counter with her fingers. My looks of utter despair must have spurred her to put down her drink and help. Once they finished serving they proceeded to continue chat and stand about rather than have quick tidy for the next customers. Food was ok but not good enough for me to return.

Food is great, staff are lovely and friendly, restaurant is spacious and clean and price is right. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is the fact that the sitting area is not surprisingly warm but so much so that we left earlier than we planned due to the temperature. Although there was an air conditioning unit in place it was blowing out tepid air which simply added to the humidity!

went in with grandkids for snacks only to be told they had no bread for toasties or sandwiches so had to leave as that was all the kids wanted, sadly this was not the first time this has happened, won't be going back.

Best Chippy in Johnstone. The fish is lovely and the food is not greasy at all. Definitely recommended 👍

Got home delivery ordered sm saus supper and king rib supper guy on phone taking order was brilliant tho very disappointed with food .. very small portions for the money! .. I’m sure they’re GP is good tho !!. , will try another chippy next time , probably not order again recommend you look after the customers and give them their money’s worth ! Poor show andys !! Plenty of chippies about would put you to shame . Not the best king rib either very confused how you can have the batter burnt! .black at the end . Just ate it and going to call a Chinese now

It's ok nothing special . Portion sizes are small compared to others. Never seen any staff smile . The times I've been in.

My son loves going and is a great fan of the haggis and cheesy chips!!! i have never been disappointed with quality. Good service and great good.

We sat in for 2 delicious suppers and 2 drinks and it was only £12.20 - superb!!! Other reviews state this to be the best in town, I wont disagree.

This is certainly not dubbed as the best chip shop in Johnstone, but I disagree. Their food is fantastic, not greasy, the fish is white and fluffy, the batter is crisp and golden. Great service, great food.

When speed is required this takeaway does not disappointed. The food is fresh and the premises are spotless. Located in an area where there are numerous takeaways this one wins on quick service, cleanliness and price. You can also sit in if that is your preference. If I had to give one negative comments it would be that one or two of the younger staff have painted nails with chipped very dark nail varnish which is not very hygienic looking when handling food. Apart from that this traditional chippy is worth a visit.

Quick and friendly service. Gravy tastes great. Better thank Sandros which is round the corner. I had a hamburger supper with gravy and a dry roll. It was exactly what I wanted and they even take card which is unusual for a chippy.

Food is nice enough but have noticed on several occasions that the mostly female employees wear chipped nail varnish and it makes me wonder if any of it has chipped off in to the food they are serving! Last time I was in it was very busy but the employees were handling money (full of germs) then the same employees were also handling food when putting condiments on them. Didn't think they were supposed to handle money then food because of the germs found on money.

Last minute choice the other night... was working and famished. I have a chippy maybe once a year, tops... and normally take the fish. They where about to close so had choice of , sausage, pie, hamburger or black pudding- all deep fried of course. Settled on the black pudding with chips. It was great, crisp batter, tasty chips and no greasy after taste of old , overused oil. And, I got it for 3 quid... can't grumble at that.

Lovely pie supper for my wee dad. The chips are amazing. Prompt service. No 'waiting for chips' which is the case in loads of other places.

I don't know if it is the Sausage in the sausage supper or the fat they use but every time I get a sausage supper I feel sick or I am physically sick. Maybe it is just me I am not sure however I do like their pizzas although the base aint the best either its all just too average to even think about giving the place a good rating

we had two fish teas ....both the fish and the chips were to a very good standard .... seating was like an american diner and suited us perfectly service was good and prices were reasonable ... we shall return ...

Small fish tea had to as for the bread it wasn't worth the wait as the bread didn't taste fresh and cheap marg used instead of butter fish was nice but the chips cooled down very quick good size plate for the money

I have been using Andy's golden fry for many years and I have never been disappointed with the quality of food and service.

Dropped into this friendly chippy for a couple of Fish Teas before attending an event in the nearby Johnstone Town Hall. £6.15 for a large Fish Tea which includes 2 large fish, plenty of chips (both served piping hot), slice of (white) bread with 'butter' and a cup of tea. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. Sit in area is well presented and clean. Food was to a high standard, although I did find the Fish a little tasteless (don't know what species of fish that they use, and forgot to ask). This however is not unique to this establishment, Perhaps the good old days of quality cod and haddock are well gone and we are now offered lesser produce in order to keep the price to an acceptable level. All in all a good place to visit if you want some old fashioned fast food (they also do a full array of traditional chippy foods + oven baked pizzas and burgers too). So if you're in need of some quick substance, I'd recommend dropping in.

I don't live in Johnstone these days (Manchester now) but my parents do. When we visit we occasionally have a chippy treat and this is the only place I'd go. The food is really lovely. The special fish is particularly good. The establishment is clean and the staff are friendly. Highly recommend. If this review is helpful please like on TripAdvisor.

Nothing bad to say about this place as the food is great, prices super and the staff give excellent customer service. We use mainly for carry out but the restuarant is nice and comfy to eat in.

Get the fritters they are gallus, smother them in Red sauce Yaasssss.Always a tasty treatthis place when I am feeling the pangs of the hungerbeast and in in Johnstone this is the place for a spread.

Had small fish teas here last night good value but too many chips !! Bread was nice and fresh but spoilt by using soft margarine rather than butterStaff couldnt have been more helpful Food piping hot and freshly prepared

The food is good and the quality and quantity is also good but I do find that the service can be quire slow although the food is served reasonably quickly once your order is taken

I was introduced to Andys by my boyfriend, I have been loyal to another similar ship for 26yrs so reluctantly agreed to go in.I ordered king rib supper which is cooked while you wait and have to admit it's the best I've had in a long time, I've been in a further 5 times to try catch them out in quality and I'm pleased to say their food has tasted fantastic everytime. They also do chicken nuggets that taste great and their fish is brought in fresh from the fishmonger so youll not find any froze fish here.The prices are very reasonable and the quality is of high standards. Staff are very pleasant and banter with the customers.The carryout is always busy, the phone never stops ringing for home delivery and the sit in is usually busy. If you haven't tried it I would thoroughly recommend you do.

Eat here regularly with my family usually a Sunday, so glad it's back opened again we were missing it for a while there, just a tasty as before and staff always smiling

Had a nice take away haggis supper and fish for my daughter, very nice good portions and friendly staff, took Mastercard which is handy for a chippy to offer when running low on actual paper money, haven't ate in yet

It does what it says on the tin good food, good prices, fish tea is tasty nice American style diner in red and white, only downside service is a bit slow maybe due to food being cooked from scratch,or maybe not, staff look as if they want to be somewhere else and not very cheerful in fact our waitress nearly cracked a smile at us as she shuffled around I actually seen her blank a couple with learning difficulties as they tried to get her attention pretty poor show! as I was leaving I pointed out that they had not been served she just mumbled something and walked away think staff should be sent on a course in hospitality, or change of career either way one would be good

The food is always freshly cooked, and is of a very high standard. The shop is very clean, and the staff very courteous. It is always a good experience.

Andy's recently won an award for their fish and chips and it is deserved. We only recently started coming here but it is already our families favourite chippy. Kids love it too, the lay out is fresh and the seats are very American cafe like.

Love this chip shop. Best pizza crunch and chips and curry sauce. It has an option to sit in also and very spacey kid friendly too. Prices are reasonable also.

I always go to Andys chip shop the food is good although small portion sizes. The gravy is the Main reason I go to the chip shop.

I've been a lot but only every get the Fish and Chips.Tastes great but the fish portions are small, but this is reflected in the price.Good for lunch but you're probably better going else where for your fish for your tea if you can eat a decent sized meal like me.

Visited here for 2 fish teas with my husband on a Saturday night. The staff work hard and are very friendly. Food was very fresh and tasted great fish was really white when cut open. Chips tasted like good chippy chips. We don't eat a lot of fried food but we love a treat here about once a month it's excellent. Very clean place to. So thank you we enjoy it.

You will not be disappointed with the quality of food here. They have a sit in which I haven't used, but the take away is excellent. It isn't greasy but very dry and crispy chips, in fact, the best chips I've ever had and never had a bad meal. It always looks very clean.

Been here a couple of times now. Hubbie had the fish tea and I had a cheese toastie and chips. My eyes were bigger than my tummy. Excellent chippie and will defo be back when I am next in Scotland.

Have given five stars before but not now. The service was unfriendly and painfully slow. The portion has reduced significantly as has the quality of the fish. In no hurry to return

Had chips, battered sausage and pickled onions. Chips were clearly fried in nice, clean oil. Lovely and fluffy inside. Sausage amazing! Great hangover food and even my cats ate a few chips!! Not expensive at all!(had delivery).

I have used Andy's Golden Fry only on a carry out basis. The sit in section is very well utilised and the décor is pleasant and clean. I have seen, depending on the time of day, very few available seats.The portions are generous and reasonably priced. In fact, and correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is the cheapest in Johnstone. The staff have always been very nice.For a chip shop it does what it says on the label.Regards,Dunli

Just arrived in Scotland and wanted to try out the chippy. I get it is a take away, but there was no friendly atmosphere. The fish was dripping in oil and was extremely greasy. The chips were tasteless. Was quite dissapointed as it came highly recommended.

Tried this chip shop takeaway for the first time this week, and it was tasty! I got the hamburger supper and I really enjoyed it. Prices ok. And the menu is extensive for a chip shop. Only thing is, they don't sell potato fritters!

a traditional fish and chip bar the kids love it as has a small electrical play bus for kids to ride /slushes and icecreams decor aint anything special but its clean and functional.

I have ate here around 20 times and now i have found tripadvisor would like to share my experience. The place is clean with excellent well mannered staff. Love the traditional decor. As for the large fish tea there is no better taste, fish batter crispy and chips brilliant. My son loves eating here. Bring back the chippy and take a break from greasy chinese and over priced curried.

Simply always a good supper, fish - sausage or whatever your taste, one of two great chippies in Johnstone.
