Going down hill, Style over substance, but style also failed. We've been there for years and not impressed 😕

We have been to andwhynot on a few occasions in the last couple of months and I can honestly say it is one of the best venues in Mansfield for a really nice meal. Most recently we visited for Sunday lunch and were served by Clara and the team. All the staff are really friendly and attentive. We ordered three of the duo meat combos and the other person in our party ordered the vegan pie and we can all confirm the food was delicious. On previous occasions I have ordered the trays and burgers which are just awesome! I’m never disappointed by the food here and I always leave very happy. The venue itself is very nice, clean and inviting. It has a steampunk element to it, and it looks quirky, but homely. Personally, I would prefer the music to be a little bit louder in the main dining room as when it does get busy, you can hear a lot of people talking over one another, so the music being a little bit louder would help drown that noise out, but that’s just personal preference. It’s a really nice atmosphere, and I would recommend this venue to anyone for sure. Thank you team andwhynot for never letting us down!

We took my mum and dad the food was delicious we had a great time loved we could have a meal then upstairs for entertainment the tributes acts are fabulous this one was carpenters atmosphere was great the staff and manager were just amazing attention to detail and very helpful great night thank you. Would highly recommend

I’m wondering if there has been a change of chef because the quality has gone down. Cold mushroom starter with soggy bread and flavourless sauce the consistency of condensed soup. I had to order twice and over charged for an extra main, but I was told the manager was too busy to sort this when I called. Second year I’ve been over charged, so I won’t be returning. It’s a shame because I used to love this place.

Sunday lunch amazing, the beef simply melted ….. Wouldn’t knock a star off because of this, BUT there’s one thing that happened that some people (who like to give bad reviews) would have picked up on and deducted the stars….. We had a table of 12 (in the bar area) the girl server brought the meals out ALL on her own, and on occasion one plate at a time…. My meal came out first (and you simply don’t start until All the meals come out….. 4 bar staff just stood behind the bar chatting while my food was stone cold before they all came out SLOWLY… Then you wait for the veg, then after 3 times of asking mint sauce etc…. Had to ask her to microwave mine to warm it up…. Others put up with it but not good….. It’s a pet hate of mine to see so many staff not ‘dig in’ when the food is ready to bring out to a large table….. Other than that its 5 stars…. The food is amazing……. Sorry to mention the service but if it doesn’t get mentioned many a customer just wouldn’t return…… All the best… G…

Omg this is hands down the BEST breakfast we've had. Even the butter was amazing. We both had a "big breakfast" and it was certainly that. “Ball bag” tomatoes were lovely - not too much juice, just right 😂 Food was such good quality, cooked lovely, service was fab & the music was great too. Hands down worth every penny & the best brekkie in our local area.

Wow, beyond my expectation. I walked in and from the first moment, the staff were very helpful. I was looking for somewhere to park they have parking at the rear. When I entered the place it was so much nicer inside, not what I expected. Much nicer, very busy, but Clara, the manager, still found me a table. I ordered a pork and crackling Sunday roast it was truly the best roast I've ever been served, perfectly cooked and so much on the large plate. I ordered the dessert to go as I didn't have room right there. Compliments to the chef. I Highly recommended "And why not" absolutely awesome thank you

What a lovely place to eat, we had a great meal and it is really nice inside. We went on a weekday night and it was quite empty, I hope that's not usually the case though because we'll want to go back!

Called for Sunday lunch, we had the combo Beef & pork with crackling , was even asked how we would like the beef pink or well done ,the portion size of meat was ample too 🥰 came beautifully presented with some amazing gravy with extra gravy boat ,the veg was beautifully done el Dante 😍 just to our liking,i couldn't finish my meal and were told that they do offer a smaller plate unlike most places that only let you have a small plate if your under the age of 12 yr old!! , young staff were amazing too ,polite friendly and professional 💖, we will definitely be making a regular appearance here 🥰😊 well done Jono to you and All your Staff and Huge Complements to the Chef 👨‍🍳 💙 ❤️ 😊

Had a great time at bottomless brunch. Food was amazing, service was really good, only mild criticism was those whose first drinks were cocktails,lost 15 minutes of drinking time whilst being made. It would have been an idea to take the drink orders before we were seated, so they were ready for when we sat down. Highly recommend.x

e were there for an early dinner (5.30pm) and reserved a table in the bar as we had our dog with us. There were a few small hiccups with initial service (spilled beer, a look of confusion and an admission that it was her first time serving) but we ordered drinks and then food. Nobody came back to check for quite some time so I went a fetched my own second drink. No problem. I had the lamb flatbread which was really tasty and my wife had the fish and chips which was also good. However I also ordered skin on fries - they were burned and bitter - most were crispy and either black or dark brown. But the worst was yet to come. We waited for our plates to be taken so we could have another drink and order desert. We waited… and we waited… and we waited. We watched our waitress standing behind the bar chatting to the other staff for about five minutes but she never came anywhere near our table. Eventually we went to the bar and asked if someone would come and take our order and clear the plates. A member of the bar staff apologised and came to clear up. She asked one of the waiting staff to bring desert menus which they did. Then we waited… and waited and waited until after twenty minutes we gave up and paid at the bar. I told the same member of staff that we’d given up and she apologised and said she’d tried to get someone to help us. The couple on the table next to us were forced to go to the bar and ask someone to come and take their order so we weren’t alone. I’ve got to say this was the worst service I’ve ever had at any restaurant or pub. It’s disappointing because we’ve been loyal customers for some time. It’s expensive to eat out and when you do you expect to be served properly and with respect. We got neither so I won’t be going back.

Visited tonight, restaurant side not overly busy but the service was incredibly slow. Staff looked amazing and were friendly and polite though so couldn't fault them in this aspect. Food was lovely and the portions were huge so definitely worth the money. Nice atmosphere too. Literally can't fault anything, but the slow service, we got tired of waiting and genuinely thought about just paying and leaving without drinking the cocktails we'd ordered. We both felt like we'd been forgotten about and our custom wasn't good enough. Because of the service we won't be hurrying to return 😔

We had a lovely lunchtime meal in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The food was delicious and freshly cooked at very reasonable prices served by friendly and attentive staff. We will definitely return again. In an evening they also have a musical variety of tribute acts performing.

Fantastic food and excellent friendly service. I’ve never had a meal here that wasn’t exceptional. On this occasion I ordered the steak and ale pie and it was the best pie I’ve ever had. The mushroom gratin was crispy and creamy and the key lime pie divine. I’d give 10 stars if I could.

Fab place.. Sunday dinner is the best in Mansfield even the whole area... absolutely beautiful food. The staff are wonderful.. it's always consistently fabulous..nothing is ever too much trouble for the team. Best place for drinks food, Sunday roast.

Me and the missus went on Sunday afternoon, just gone, for roast dinners. She had turkey and I had beef. Pink beef as it happens. Both dinners were absolutely delicious. The beef melted in your mouth. We said the same to the lovely waitress (or is it waiter now - confused). She was courteous and couldn’t do enough for us throughout the dinner. We have been going to Andwhynot for years now and never have experienced bad food or bad service and that’s a fact. The place is great and the staff and management make it.

As a regular Sunday luncher at this awesome venue, & I mean regular, I’ve never experienced anything but sterling service, scrumptious food, & incredibly obliging staff attitude all round 👍. Can only speculate that this was a vindictive plant for some ulterior bizarre purpose!! See ya next Sunday 👍😎😋🍷

Went to the Peter Kay event and what a great time we had 👍🏻 great service with the meals , very prompt , food excellent and the table service was spot on too … a lot of the staff are young , very polite and all look like they enjoy their job which is refreshing to see 👍🏻 credit to the management

One of my favourite places great food and service

Have been twice in recent weeks, once for a surprise birthday party using the space upstairs (canvas) disappointed to find that upstairs we were being charged £8 per cocktail, however downstairs was 2 for £12! Cheeeeeky. On our second visit, we had booked to go see 'dua lipa' being advised a day before that she had cancelled, by text message. We had a table booked for food for roughly 20 people also, so decided to still go for the meal. During the meal (pre orders were made as reqiested) we were told that items were not available and orders were having to be changed at the table (why have pre-orders) One member of staff was overheard complaining about the size of the party to which another staff member replied, well you decided to book them in! (we had been booked in a few weeks and paid deposits, therefore preordered food should have been available!) Dispite the staffing issues and pricing, the space is beautiful, even out in the smoking area where they have heaters. An outside bar (wasn't open when we visited) and a lovely relaxing area. Decorated tastefully and very clean facilities. Most of the food was really enjoyed by all!! My only complaint would be the lack of chorizo in the tagliatelle, The minimal amount given made no difference to the taste and brought nothing to the plate. (I'm convinced it's because it looked grated 🙈, chuck some chunks in it and be done) The steak/chicken and pizzas were a big hit!! The cocktails are well made and presented.

We came Christmas Eve 2022, the same as we do each year, the staff were fabulous , attentive approachable. Unfortunately most of the menu wernt available of what we could of had, we normally pay a deposit prebook however we were explained on booking we not need to. It were a shame on that side of it, i would recommend staff let you know beforehand before placing orders. Overall lovely atmosphere

Been today waited awhile for our meal .when it arrived it was delicious and worth the wait .I must just say two members of staff on the bar were very polite and welcoming but the poor lass was rushed off her feet ,deserves a bonus .Very professional credit to the pub .And the chef too .

Went to a pink tribute with the wife and friends and this place has hospitality down to a tee. The meal was fantastic and the staff were always around for more drinks orders. The venue is great. Very friendly staff and they have a wide variety of different acts planned throughout December and into the new year

We went to see an act Friday. I have to say it was amazing. Not just the act but the food, staff and service were all incredible. Having a table and table service all night made it such a lovely experience. The staff were so polite and efficient they are a credit to the venue. We was so impresses so booked another event for all my family. This will be a regular location for us for sure as it's so different. Really smart and clean and also great value. Well done to the whole team for giving us such a great place to go in mansfield. My previous review was:- First time visiting as we went prior to a Palace theatre show as they offer a discount with theatre tickets so we thought we would give them a try. So glad we did. We hadn't booked so had a lovely table in the bar area. The staff were so welcoming and efficient. The menu was very varied and the food was amazing. We really enjoyed it and will be back again. Highly recommended.

Been coming to this place for years and customer service massively reduced in service . 2 for £12 cocktails advertised from 5pm however at 12.10am refused claiming they finish at 12am even though the cocktail menu doesn't state that. Doorstaff then tell us last orders and go to order and bar staff refuse even though another member of staff are serving vodka and cokes to another customer. Very poor inconsistent service and won't be coming back.

It has been over 2 years since I last frequented Andwhynot either in the evening as a restaurant or Bistro venue or, as I used to regularly do, have Sunday lunch. My Father-in-Law and I have tried many eateries over the last few years and we eat out approximately once or twice a week. So if I say this was a spectacular Sunday lunch that really did not disappoint with exactly the same quality of service I doubt you would be surprised. It is well known that this small LOCALLY owned chain of bars and restaurants have have a very well respected reputation but even your favourite places can disappoint you. I went back with great expectation and by pleasant surprise they were exceeded. Something that stood out particularly was the roast beef... many people now I prefer meat to be pink and that is the trend for modern chefs but there are still people like my Father-in-Law Who, at 82 years old, simply cannot eat it and prefer it well done. For the very first time that I can remember a a Sunday lunch was offered with the choice of well done or "pink" beef! Obviously you expect it for steak but for a roast dinner it is a very pleasant surprise. The meal was excellent value for money with two starters, soup served with a lovely homemade chunky bread, ok and two substantial mains, traditional Sunday roast, along with three pints only came to £45 or thereabouts which is by any standards good value. Congratulations to to Damien the manager and to to the company directors for maintaining such high standards over a long period of time. There are many places I have been to which have disappointed me the following year or two later. I believe the success of of the company and it's restaurants is down to continuity of staff and staff training. You will not be disappointed and I will certainly add it to my list of Regular eateries. Thanks for reading Pp

Went to this pub/ restaurant for the first time tonight and first impressions are disgusting ordered the chicken Lizzie and had one small bit and tasted the cross contamination of foods immediately once complained about I was offered to change my meal to then be told I had to pay for both meals, I decided to go without any meal absolutely disgusting it wasn’t until then they decided to remove my meal from the bill, fortunately I don’t have allergies just an extremely sensitive pallet so please be aware cross contamination is possible so avoid if you have allergies

Visited Saturday lunchtime with family from Essex, the staff were friendly and welcoming, thanks to liv, kieran and el . The food was exceptional and well presented , we will be back .

Never had a bad meal here. Also the cocktails are amazing! Visited last night, we had got miller and carter booked as it was my husband and my 4 week wedding anniversary (any reason for a steak tbf!) but then decided to go for a meal with my sister and her husband as it's her birthday Monday so booked here last minute and the food and drinks were lovely! Libby the waitress was absolutely lovely, very friendly and attentive and Layton was lovely to! I came a few months ago with my work friends and had the pork belly and it was amazing, so had the same again but I think the menu has changed slightly as I swear it never had peppercorn sauce on it which it did this time, not a fan of the sauce as I don't like spicy/peppery things but it was lovely I just avoided the sauce! Thanks for a great evening!

Dinner with friends on Saturday was lovely, food was fantastic and our waitress Keighley was brilliant, perfect, in fact you should be giving go her a pay rise, she is an absolute asset to the business. My only grumble was it was extremely hot in the restaurant and a little dark for me. But will definitely be back, absolutely loved it!
