Amici in Brighton and Hove

What a hidden gem. Quite frankly one of the best dining experiences in Brighton & Hove. Been there on half a dozen occasions now, and has never failed to deliver on quality of food or friendliness of service. A must try

Very pleasant Italian restaurant. Food choice is good. A little dearer than most of its competitors in Hove which we didn't feel we got anything better than we would have else where. Usual rip off price for a coke zero, which came in its own can....coffee very small and overpriced for what it was

All round great experience. We really enjoyed the food, I especially enjoyed the vegetarian Arancini starter. I also liked the service, we weren’t left waiting long to order or to receive our food. The only downside I could possibly say is the music was slightly too loud as I had taken my elderly grandmother there, but it wasn’t a problem for the most part.

Well where do I start, the first word that comes to mind is DISAPPOINTED.... We came here because the restaurant we originally wanted to go to was shut. The staff were initially really friendly and attentive however things went quickly downhill when things we ordered were changed without asking us beforehand... Starter: Garlic bread to share, that was the only thing that we were all happy with, no complaints. Mains: So one of us ordered a Spaghetti Meatballs and to my utter disbelief it arrived with the following statement from the waitress 'Oh, I know you didnt order this with Pene but the chef said that it tastes much better'. I have never in my life seen a chef change someones order without even asking, to then serve it to us with that explanation ! Pizza Diavola: This was ordered with extra cheese and FRESH chillies. The pizza arrived looking a bit burnt and clearly without any of the extra's we asked for, so we mentioned this to the waitress who went to ask the chef, she then came back to tell us there was fresh chillies under the pizza but there was 0 chillies under or on top. The young waitress then proceeded to open the Chili oil bottle from another table and removed some chillies from there to put in a small bowl under the false pretence they were the 'fresh' chillies we asked for. We couldn't believe our eyes, for somewhere with such a high rating I never ever expected this. The other pizza we ordered was very average and the pasta I had was definitely the best of a bad bunch. I think the staff could clearly see they messed up our whole experience as they never once came to ask how the food was or anything. We asked for the bill and to our utter shock they tried to charge us for the 'fresh' chillies they removed from a bottle of chili oil.... I went straight up to mention it and the more senior waitress (who was lovely) instantly agreed to remove it from the bill however the younger waitress was muttering trying to argue that they were fresh chillies not knowing that we SAW her take them from the bottle. I don't know if we came on a bad evening but I struggle to understand their behaviour and their complete lack of remorse for their actions. They didn't even offer an apology or discount. Im sorry to say I don't think we will ever return to this restaurant. Don't change people's orders without asking, don't lie about having ingredients you don't have and then charge for it when you pull them from a bottle. We paid around £20 each and to be honest we would have had a better experience buying a frozen pizza and watching a film at home.

Hi! “The Asian lady” here you referred in some comments below. What an unnecessary racist comment that shows the level of respect you have for your customers. We remember that night very well for you to be accusing customers. The food was average but the worst is the customer service you offer.

Fantastic Italian Restaurant. The food was superb and the staff friendly and helpful. They made us feel really welcome It was our first time here but it definitely won’t be our last. Excellent value for money.

Great restaurant. The waitress were very kind, the food was delicious and quite a big range from appetizers, pasta, pizza and other dishes. We went a group of 8 and had good fun. The vibe is very nice and feels very Italian. Very good value for money.

We love Amici, it is a cosy little restaurant with good food and really friendly staff. The service is always impeccable and we love the food and house wine. It is good quality home cooked food, favourite dish is the nduja pasta with mascarpone also the garlic bread with caramelised onions. Portion sizes are big and you always leave feeling very satisfied. We always seem to be able to get a table if we turn up last minute but the restaurant is always very busy. 100% recommend.

A great local Italian with top quality dishes! Across the group we tried vegan and gluten free options and everything impressed. The gluten free pizza base, cooked in their pizza oven, was crispy and delicious! Will be returning for a casual midweek treat dinner or weekend lunch.

I went to have dinner with friends and the food was good, the staff were friendly and the environment confortable. They just took a bit long to serve the food but it worth. I recommend the profiteroles for dessert, the best i ever tried!

Small independent businesses such as Amici are becoming a rarity, the food and service are absolutely fantastic and they deserve all the support they can get! This place is one of my favourite Italian restaurants. I have to recommend their cannelloni and garlic pizza bread, it’s the best ❤️

We went here as a family of 6 on Saturday evening. The restaurant is gorgeous, feels like you're on holiday as soon as you walk in. The staff were all so lovely with great service and the food was outstanding. We all absolutely loved our food and ate every mouthful! Highly recommend it!

Pizza was not as described as we’re supposed to be a seafood The seafood pizza was unable to be eaten as all the shells was left on it. The meat feast pizza look more like a vegetarian

The atmosphere is great at Amici. A really friendly family restaurant that was full and buzzing when we went in at 7pm. The service is quick and efficient and the menu has a selection of choices that you would expect at a family Italian restaurant. This place is a favourite for my family for casual dining and I can see why. Very reasonably priced too!

Superb pizza, welcoming service, authentic.

Very nice authentic Italian food, yummy desserts and my friend loved the vegan pizza. Reasonably priced.We went when a large party were there, the staff coped very well but it did get loud, will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

Great food. Lovely attentive staff

Lunch for 3 on Sunday 23/1/22. Absolutely delicious. We had 2 courses (pizzas and dessert) and a bottle of wine. Pizzas were so nice that I was about to go for a second one. Ingredients were fresh and service was second to none. Peppe is a great host and Maria is the best chef tgat I have met in Brighton so far. Definitely worth a visit, and you won’t be disappointed.

Amazing! We walked in on Saturday night with no reservation and were quickly accommodated and welcomed with a smile. The service was impeccable, food super tasty and prices very affordable. It really felt like we were in Italy, in a little trattoria, not in Hove on a cold winter night!✨

I highly recommend, super fresh and delicious food for a very reasonable price. Amazing portion sizes and delicious wine. The service was incredible and waiter deserves a medal for being a delight. One of my favourite meals out in ages. We will be back many times.

We visited last night and the food was amazing, can’t wait to come back soon and try the pizza. Our waitress Sophia was so friendly and attentive, we had a lovely chat with her, the restaurant are lucky to have such a lovely waitress. We will be back… a gem in Hove!

Mixed bag here. Pizzas generous and well cooked. Pasta portions very small, more like a child's size.

Lovely Italian restaurant in Hove. The manager and the waitress were very friendly and careful of our dietary requirements. Food was really nice and the kids polished their plates. Would definitely recommend to anyone for lunch or dinner. 5*+

Came back after a long Covid enforced absence. Obviously missing Joe (Giuseppe) who is a Hove legend in his own lifetime. Food was delicious, wine perfect and service from Alissa, a true Milanese, whose now often underplayed ability to focus on making the customer experience special was sublime. Can’t wait to come back!

Really cute, family friendly, low key place of dining. Friendliest staff you could meet. Buzzing even on a Thursday night, and we got in with no reservation. Great food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended for a pleasant and casual dining experience.

Tried here yesterday for the first time, what a pleasant surprise! Very friendly and helpful staff. I have trouble peeling my shellfish/taking it out of the shell, the restaurant were very obliging and done this for me which I found REALLY HELPFUL.... it's little acts of kindness like this that go a long long way! Should have left a tip but unfortunately had no cash with me. Very clean too, will definitely be back! If you haven't tried this "hidden gem" I promise, you won't b disappointed!

Priority is given to takeaway customers, not people dining in. We ate in and waited an hour for our meal.

Our first family meal out after lockdown and Amici was an excellent choice. The food was wonderful, everything was fresh and really yummy. The service was super, very welcoming. Everyone was so friendly and my daughter loved going up to see how the pizzas were made. Cannot recommend it enough. We will be back.

Food is reliably tasty and well made, particularly the pizzas; crust is nice and thin and toppings have lots of flavour without being too heavy. Staff are also always lovely; very friendly. Definitely reccomend!

I booked a table for 6 people last week. We all left incredible happy. The food was delicious. The service was exceptional. Our waiter Giuseppe was extremely prompt and accommodating. He made some excellent food and drink recommendations. The chef Fabio came to our table at the end of the evening to ensure that everything was to our liking. It was faultless. I will be booking to eat there again on a regular basis, and I would recommend this restaurant to any lover of Italian food.

This place is the type of Italian restaurant I love. Independent and family-run, serving up simple Italian fare. I’ve only eaten here twice so far. But it is just around the corner from my friend Jolly Rolly, so we ate there first time out of convenience. However, it’s now firmly on the list of places we frequent, and we’re a fussy pair(!)The menu is simple, but offers good variety. Plenty of veggie and vegan options. Gluten free is available too. I feel sure that even the faddiest of eaters will find something good to eat here. Starters are quite filling, so maybe share one if you not super hungry. For the impressive pasta section you get to choose your pasta first, then your sauce. You’ll find all the usual suspects, and a couple of less usual ones. Pizza are well structured. Granted, less topping than some places. But this is the Italian way, and helps to reduce ‘soggy base syndrome’. The dough is so nice you won’t want to leave the crusts. I’d go as far as to say that their pizza is nine tenths as good as Fatto a Manno, who make the best pizza known to man. The prices are quite reasonable. Beer and soft drinks are cheap by restaurant standards. Wine less so, the cheapest wines are quite drinkable, but I do begrudge paying £18 for a bottle of wine I could buy in Tescos for under a fiver. But this seems to be the norm nowadays. I stick with a large bottle of beer, which is very reasonable. The cheap red is nice, don’t get me wrong, I’m just a bit tight about paying for wine as I used to sell the stuff for a living, and know how much restaurants make on every bottle. The service is friendly and efficient. They seem to have a lot of regular patrons, which is always a good sign. At the time of writing, there were only three one star reviews on here. Against two hundred five star. One of those three was written by a nutter, as usual. The other two made valid points, but were both answered fully by the manager, who offers both an apology, and an explanation. As I said at the beginning, I love places like this. And in these days small local businesses need our love. And our support. And our money. I’m certain that if you give this place a try, you’ll be well satisfied. And well fed.
