Fantastic chippy. Stopped half way round a walk yesterday and the food was perfect. I'm glad I don't live too close because I'd be as fat as a pig in weeks!

A superb traditional Fish and Chip shop. First time visit tonight as a family. They serve really good fish and chips along with some home made dishes. Fish is cooked to order. We ate in. Crispy batter, crunchy chips. My wife enjoyed the lasagne and my children are scampi. All in all the best we've had in the area. Will be back. Parking is tight but do able. Best fish and chips we've had away from the coast. Yum.!!

I've started to use this chippy over the months and now its time for a review. This chippy is fantastic. The fish and chips are first class. The chips and batter is crispy and there are a lot of food choices. Amazingly the owner provides some gluten free options including certain non fried foods which are home made dishes curry, lasagna, etc, they are different each week which, I must say, I've tried and is first class too. If you are gluten intolerant then they offer gluten free batter for your fish noting that its still fried in the same oil as the non gluten fish batter at the moment (that suits me though, no issues at all). All-in-all a brilliant chippy and I hope this business flourishes.

Stopped at this shop after visiting a local attraction. The pulled pork and the cod and chips are just wonderful. Iain the owner was also a pleasure to chat and to be with, five stars from me.

I've been traveling across the UK for a month, the Cod and Chips here were some of the best so far. Very local, the employee (maybe owner) greeted by name everyone but me on a Saturday afternoon

Had haddock chips from here for the first time on Friday, recently moved into area. Bloody marvellous, both fish chips and lovely light batter. In addition the guy was so friendly and helpful I recommend it unreservedly. Also well price great value. Don't miss out on this local gem. Steve

Not pleased. Read lots of good reviews about this place so went further to visit it but chips we had were overdone and not nice at all. Fish was OK but nothing special and mushy peas were very salty. Dissapointing.

Have fish and chips every time we come to the peak district and it's the best we have ever had . Went to one near Farley on A6 and it was rubbish so we threw it away. We will be going back to ambergate tomorrow.well worth the travel where ever your from. You won't. be disappointed

From derby and travelling past. Got a haddock and chips and vegan fish and chips. Both were amazing. best fish and chips and could only be improved by have the seaside nearby!

Since recently moving to the area we have been meaning to try this Chippy. It was a pleasant evening so we took a scenic walk there and were not disappointed! For a Friday, they were of course busy, but still happy to welcome me and take my order. The wait was around 10 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. Some of the best chips I've had! Being Vegetarian and Gluten Free it is often hard to find somewhere that caters for you but these guys have thought about it and produced some lovely options to leave no dietary requirement out. The shop itself had a lovely warm atmosphere and the chaps behind the counter were very friendly despite being rushed off their feet. They were also doing a great job at keeping it Covid Safe too. As locals, we will definitely be returning and recommending to all!

When we go out I often have fish, as we don't cook it at home, my wife doen't like it - so it's a treat for me.The fish here was delicately wrapped in crunchy batter, it was still firm fleshed and very tasty. The chips, were just as they should be, fluffy and light on the inside, while having a satisfying crisp on the outside.Beautiful!

I couldn't believe my luck when I realised I could get gluten free fish and chips and completely trust it. This place has it all, a great selection for everyone, totally delicious food and brilliant service. I'm going back every week. This is so exciting.

We ordered a Haddock, a portion of Scampi, a portion of chips and a curry & peas. Every thing was cooked to order and perfection. The fish fresh clean and white was wonderful, the chips crispy. I can't recommend this chippy enough, simply one of the best we've visited and we have done 100's

Was really happy to discover that there was a fish and chip shop near Belper (where we were staying) that did gluten free options. Rang up to order in advance and was able to have haddock and chips. The batter was thin and crisp and the fish inside was perfectly cooked, flaky and a big portion. The chips were also hot and tasty. Good value too.

Parked on the main road and walked to the chippy, very likable and chatty owner who cooks your order whilst you are waiting, decided to eat in, very enjoyable and tasty at a good price.

Very nice fish and chips so kind in there, everything is freshly cooked in there and it takes a while to get ready because of this reason I’ve give them 4stars they are very welcoming and everything is cooked to perfection, I’ve tried there new recipe and it is very nice I would recommend it (if you have some time on your hands).

Amazing food - we had the meatball special, little girl had the chicken nuggets and OH had fish, chips and mushy peas. All 3 were generous portions and really filling. Would definitely visit again if in the area 😊

Even though it’s a half hour drive, it’s worth it. The endlessly cheerful owner is quick and efficient, he will skin your haddock if you ask, and the cup of tea is great.

We were staying nearby and had read good reviews. It is situated just off the main road , and we missed it the first time we drove through.Called in and ordered fish , chips and peas to eat in. There was a choice of either cod or haddock , cooked to order. Everything was tasty , the owner ? was friendly and the place very tidy.The only mistake was ordering the large cod , which was huge :-)

As well as producing fine fish & chips, from from sustainable sauces, often line caught, this chippy also has veggie, vegan & gf options. The menu choices change because dishes are freshly cooked. The proprietor is friendly, helpful & brimful of food enthusiasm. Extending the competition beyond Derbyshire, this is probably the best chippy in the country (I haven’t tried them all yet) & neighbouring countries. Probably

Proper traditional fish and chips. We ate in at this small Fish and chip shop. Cooked by the owner the food was delicious. A massive cod for my wife and haddock for me. The batter wonderfully crispy (apparently he uses chilled carbonated water) no soggy batter! The chips, properly double fried were brown and perfect, not pale and flaccid like many chip shops. A great experience, simple traditional food at its best

this is one of them chip shops that you rarely come across they make fantastic fish and chips. We travel 20 minutes each way to go to this chip shop to buy our food as the fish and chips are fantastic. well worth a try because once you have tried them you will always want to go again.

Freshly cooked fish in crispy batter and delicious chips & mushy peas, what's not to love! The best fish & chips in & around the Belper area by miles, absolutely fabulous. They also do deep fried gherkins/cornichons which they call Frickles, yum.

Clean friendly with a really pleasant atmosphere. Looked after by the gentleman who served us, I’m not just saying this but he was so welcoming. I had haddock chips and peas and a cup of tea . My friend had mini fish and peas and Diet Coke all of our foot was pipping hot. I had mine put in a box and them forgot to take it home with me. ! Lovely that’s all I can say will definitely go again. Keep up the good work

Have visited a few times now and the fish is always brilliant quality and perfectly cooked. The line caught haddock in particular is worth a try as are the great side dishes - such as the chorizo and black pudding skewer. Fish and black pudding is a fantastic combination. Tried a certain well known Padstow fish and chip shop this summer and this is far superior!

My friend told me he'd found the best chippy in the world a couple of weeks ago and promised to take me for a chippy tea tonight. I was not disappointed. What an amazing little chippy in a hidden corner of a side street. I had a small fish and chips with mushy peas and to be greedy, I tried a cheese savoury! My friend had a spam fritter, chips and curry sauce. The curry sauce was so yummy- I had to have a pot of my own as I had sauce envy😅Lovely friendly guy who runs it gave us the best service and made sure everything was spot on. The owner is a very friendly man, eager to please and efficient. His fish and chips are great. He skinned his haddock for us with a smile, even tho he was madly busy. It is worth the 40 mile round trip that we made, because it was so good.

This in not just an ordinary chippy. As well as the best fish and chips around, the specials board is insane. You cannot beat it and if you ever get the chance to go, you won't regret it.

I was one of a party of 12 who ordered takeaway from Ambergate on Saturday night. We ordered a wide variety of food, including fish and vegetarian options. Amazingly, this was all ready in 20 minutes and, despite a 15 minute journey back to us, everything was still piping hot and utterly delicious. I can't remember ever having such delicious "well-travelled" food before: chips were superb and fresh and the batter on my haddock was as crisp and tasty as it was when it left the fryer. We all really enjoyed our suppers - thanks very much to Iain who clearly works incredibly hard to maintain such high standards.

I was really looking forward to visiting after reading the reviews but found the food average. I have never had so much salt put on my food so BEWARE.

It's easy to drive past this place because it is up a little side street off the main road. If you are hungry this would be a mistake. Park on the main A6 and walk the few yards to this place. It is take away or sit in. The service is great and the quality of the food is greater still. Always great tasting fish and chips.
