Score and reviews

This is a world class culinary experience deserving of more than 1 Michelin Star. The restaurant is a variation of Art Deco style in the upmarket Westbury Hotel. The atmosphere is calm and modern with tables set well apart for an intimate experience. Service is naturally perfect without being pretentious with the staff readily describing the plates and also being happy to chat. We chose the tasting menu with paired wines. The wines were very good and there were 4 glasses for around £45 each person. You could have a bottle from the extensive list and the minimum prices are about £60 going up to well over £4000! All the courses were exploding with flavour starting with canapés and amuse bouche that had been carefully prepared and beautifully presented. I would particularly recommend the Foie Gras Roll but of course the tasting menu will change regularly. My pork terrine, served in 3 ways, tasted like pork never before and similarly the roast chicken main was perfectly cooked with crispy skin. There followed sorbet and then a strawberry dessert that burst in your mouth. As it was a birthday we were also presented with a slice of amazingly light chocolate flan and, of course, the usual patisseries with the coffee. Whilst obviously all the courses had been individually prepared each was unique and there was certainly no skimping of flavours and ingredients as one sometimes finds, for instance, in the canapés. Overall it was an incredible experience and we were also fortunate to visit Alyn Williams in the kitchen for a short conversation. He is a very personable chef. The bill for 2 with service was £240 which was very reasonable for the quality of the food and ambiance provided.

Didn’t book this on our previous visit so decided to book it as we had planned to stay in Westbury. Lunch was surprisingly full house on a weekday perhaps because it was close to Christmas.

Roux at The Landau

09/08/2019: Sadly, my review might be a bit unfair so read between the lines.
05/07/2019: Interesting mix of French and Italian dishes on the lunch menu today. All cooked to the usual high standard. Service was efficient and attentive, though not particularly engaging. Preferred the old fashioned cheese trolley to the new display cabinet. Highly recommended overall.

Regency Cafe

20/04/2019: Regency Café is a small owner operator cafe. We came for a traditional English breakfast and when we arrived at 9am on a Friday morning there was about a 15 minute wait. You order your food cafeteria style and then find a seat. When your order is up, they’ll shout it out. The set breakfast is a good deal with one egg, 2 slices of bacon, 1 sausage and either bans or grilled tomatoes, toast or bread and coffee or tea. You can also add on blood sausage, bubble and squeak or hash browns. The food is decent and inexpensive. The experience is interesting. If you’re in the area, be sure to try Regency Cafe for a traditional English breakfast.
10/06/2019: This place has always been popular with us at work, despite having to cross the Thames, but of course I love this venue as it has Tottenham Hotspur photos on the wall.
