Every time we come here the staff are exceptional at looking after every need, dietary, medical, and everything else you could imagine. The food is always immaculate. Would recommend to everyone!!

Had my wedding at the Alverbank 28th march 2024 and loved every second of it as the staff made it such an amazing day they helped so so much and did more than I could have asked for. Claire who we spoke to and had meetings with about the wedding is amazing she made it so nice and relaxed during the year or so whilst having the meetings to get the wedding planned. Such an amazing day. If we had to do it all again we would come back and do it with them.

A very fine grand house with SUPERB staff in a great location just off the beach. Easy access to the Solent area. We went to Lee on Solent one day and Gosport marina the next. The listed hotel is quite boutique with lovely rooms, comfy beds and a grand entrance hall. The breakfast was also SUPERB. There is a small bar area too serving some fine whiskies! But mostly its the staff that make your stay so good. Well done.

An excellent weekend spent at the Alverbank Hotel for a family Golden Wedding Anniversary. The location is great and the staff were all amazing, as was the view from the bath! The welcome was warm and friendly and throughout our 2 night stay, Claire and the Team made sure that we had everything that we could possibly need. Special thanks to Anesha who proactively looked after us so well, especially at breakfast. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Taste club at the Alverbank is amazing and an experience that shouldn't be missed. I go with a group of friends each month and it is always amazing, but this month it was exemplary. They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and special. Although it is a set menu, they always go the extra mile to cater for dietary needs and this month was exceptional. Egg free, no beef, and low carb made for a challenging task, but Jack, the chef came up with the goods! Thank you so much for such a memorable night. Can't wait for next month!

We married here on 29/02/2024, and we honestly had the most amazingly perfect day. We had a relatively short engagement (6 months!) and Claire and the team were superb throughout the entire process. Living in Gosport, we wanted to keep our wedding local and we are so lucky to have The Alverbank on our doorstop. After we visited for dinner, we knew that we wanted to get married here as the service we received was excellent. When we met Claire, the wedding coordinator, it was the icing on the cake. Claire made everything so straightforward for us, and our 6 months of planning felt so easy. We held our wedding ceremony here and evening reception which is helpful as we wanted everything in one venue. There is so much space for guests between the events when they are turning the rooms around. Even though it rained all day and we couldn't make use of the gardens, it didn't matter as the venue still has so much space. On the day itself, the staff were fantastic, and all of our guests have echoed our thoughts and feelings. The food service was perfect, and nobody waited to be served for drinks throughout the night considering we had 100+ people in the evening. The food was incredible. The food tasting experience was a pleasure in itself and on the day the chef and the team outdid themselves with the quality when cooking for the masses. I think my review explains just how happy we are with how our wedding day went - I could obviously continue! If you are considering this as a wedding venue, or a party venue for any occasion, i urge you to visit to see what a hidden gem this place is! :) Added bonus is that it is dog friendly, so our pooch could be with us on our special day! thank you to everybody at The Alverbank!

My favourite roast (apart from my own). Staff are always friendly and attentive. Food service can be a bit slow and we've found on a couple of occasions that items on the menu have already sold out which is disappointing. Still would return.

Great place, with helpful friendly staff that go the extra mile to accommodate you. Our room was spotlessly clean and being room No1 we had the roll top bath in the window and a beautiful view of the Isle of Wight. Hired the function hall for my wife’s 60th birthday party and have to say Roxanne was extremely helpful and professional, with good advice and answering any questions promptly. All in all a 5 star service, would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous roast in a lovely setting. The belly pork was cooked to perfection washed down with a pint of the local ale from the Powder Monkey brewery. Evan took our booking and made sure everything was OK with our meals, highly recommended for quality and service.

We had a delicious sunday roast with sea views, an open lit fire and fantastic service. Can’t wait to go back it was excellent!

Awful very expensive and treat there employees or-fully they had a go at me for washing the dishes properly. “Because it takes to much time to do it properly”. All they care about is money.

We chose the Alverbank for our Christmas family meal as it was one of a few places that offered their Christmas menu on a Sunday. The welcome from the team was lovely, as we were a large party they gave us the private dining room which was splendid. The food was fabulous, all 3 courses were served in a timely manner and all piping hot. Service was excellent throughout the whole meal. Myself and my family would like to say a huge thank you to the team at The Alverbank, we have found our new family Christmas tradition!! We will be back before next Christmas though !

What an amazing private dining / 90th Birthday celebration we had on 11th November 2023. The consideration and detail from Roxanne, the events manager, took from our first meeting,  through the many email exchanges and our last pre-event meeting. The day was absolutely perfect in every detail; the ambience, excellent food and wonderful service. A massive appreciation to Billy too whose attentiveness, energy and great humour ensured the day was simply wonderful. We really can't recommend The Alverbank and the team enough. Just perfect 👌⭐️

The Alverbank were kind enough to host our wedding last month and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From our very first meeting, Claire and the team were incredibly helpful, accommodating, and friendly, and took so much stress away from planning our day. They could not have done any more for us, exceeding our expectations in every single way possible. The chef at the Alverbank (Jack) is incredible - his food is honestly the best around and we have eaten here so many times now it's honestly my favourite place to go. To have him cater our wedding was a privilege and it was the most memorable and exquisite meal - Jack made suggestions and amendments to our choices which levelled them up to such a top tier choice, and it was perfect. The Alverbank went to great lengths to make our day perfect - even setting up the tables and function room completely for us and so much better than we could ever have done! It was such a surprise to be able to walk into our wedding reception and see such a beautiful set up and made it so special for us both. Not only the wedding, planning, meals, and hospitality, the accommodation at the venue is simply amazing. The honeymoon suite is most probably the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in, and that includes our 5-star hotel for honeymoon itself in Devon. It is stunning. The views are incredible, yet it feels private, luxurious, and comfortable. I could have stayed there for weeks!! Our wedding was absolutely MADE by the team at the Alverbank. From the meal the night before, the breakfast the morning after, and the extra touches they made on the day (I noticed the tea lights and added chalk signs, the gift table, and how you coordinated the day so effortlessly, even though you did nothing to boast about these elements) - we are eternally grateful. The venue and team will hold a special place in our hearts forever more. Thank you for everything.

Beautiful little costal hotel with excellent restaurant in the middle of a dog friendly park. Fantastic views of the ocean. Room was comfortable (mattress was firm but I like that for my sleep). It's a historic building so expect creaks and squeaks but that's part of its character. Activities include walking the beach and the park. Very relaxing.

Claire and the team at the Alverbank were top class, and truly made our wedding special, nothing was too much trouble and all guests commented on the amazing food and hospitality. Absolutely fabulous food, The Breakfast was sublime, comfy rooms, but the best asset is the staff, they all go above and beyond to help with a smile. We were very fortunate to be looked after by Anisha who went above and beyond during our stay there to ensure we had the best time, we did.

This was our first visit for a very long time and our Sunday lunch was perfect. Very tasty food, hot and good portions without being overwhelming. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The Alverbank will definitely be our go-to place to eat in future.

Nearly half hour waiting for 4x lattes.

I love visiting here however received a parking fine of £100 even though I entered my reg into the tablet in reception. Now I have to submit an appeal via letter as there is no phone number or email to contact them through to appeal . Contacted yourselves who advised me I have to appeal through the fine company . I would have thought being your establishment you could have over turned this as I have bank statements clearly stating I had spent my money in your premises at said time and date .

Nice place, ok food, but not recommended as you'll get a parking fine if you park in the hotel car park. We were eating in the restaurant for about 2 hours and got a £100 parking fine. Staff not interested in cancelling the fine. Won't be returning.

Had a absolutely delicious Sunday Roast yesterday. Freshly cooked veg and Yorkshire pudding to die for. Service was excellent too. Highly recommended. Will be back.

The Alverbank is in a lovely old building with a large garden overlooking the Solent where, over the years, we've enjoyed meeting friends for a couple of drinks. Unfortunately, the latest management team seems to have a policy of table service only. So, even if you end up sitting a step away from the barperson at the bar, you have to wait for someone else to take your order and bring the drinks over. The shock comes when you are then required to pay 10% service charge for the pleasure. Sadly, we won't be going back for drinks here whilst they operate this money-making scheme. Such a shame. ~~~ Noting the reply below: I totally agree with the idea of customers being given the opportunity to show their appreciation for staff who have provided friendly and helpful meal service. We always do just that. However, in this case, we felt that slapping an unannounced 10% surcharge on our bill for being required to wait around for available staff to fetch us drinks we had tried to buy directly from the bar was a bit of a cheek. Rather than ruin other people's evenings by causing a fuss, we paid the surcharge as there was no indication it was optional.

Went to the jazz eve last night very nice,had some nibbles and a drink,lovely eve.

We had a lunch for 11 in a private room on a wet day - could have had brighter lights! BUT virtually everything eaten was really good - service impeccable and really enjoyable. It is pricey but worth it - my rib eye steak was amazing - thank you

A hidden gem. Warm and friendly, attentive and efficient staff and excellent food. From their garden are spectacular views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. I held my husband’s wake at the Alverbank on a spring afternoon. I wanted hot food that would be easy to eat while everyone caught up so we chose fish pie and shepherd’s pie which went down a storm. Their spacious entertaining room was ideal for everyone to gather and talk of their memories of my husband. He had a wonderful send off. Thank you, it could not have been more perfect.

Went to a comedy night which was brilliant. What wasn't great is that as of April 2022 the Alverbank are still doing bubbles, even though all Covid restrictions were lifted months ago. We were a group of 3, Alverbank said they only had tickets left for bubbles of 4 so we had to buy an extra ticket. I know we didn't have to but we wanted to see the acts. Once inside we were sat on chairs In rows, like a school assembly. So the idea of "bubbles" was a complete nonsense.

Came here for a wedding, a beautiful building inside and out. All of the staff were very friendly, amazing wedding meal too! 3 courses were lovely and the blondie was the nicest desert I've ever had. Came back a month later to try the food and drink again and was blown away again, I would recommend anyone to come and try their food! Beautifully cooked and the staff are all lovely and very friendly! I'll definitely be back for more food! I'd recommend booking if you're coming to eat though :)

We had my daughter's wedding reception at this wonderful hotel, the staff were brilliant, the meals were unbelievable, the service was faultless. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, daughter's room had a view of the Solent. Terrible Just hour and a half before check we where informed we could not have our room as it had been double booked. Would never book here again and anyone thinking of it be carful they could double book and you will loose your room

Abby fitted all 15 of us in and we used the side room, which was perfect. All of the staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We all felt that we ended up having a MUCH better experience than we would have had with the other venue - we definitely lucked in! I would HIGHLY recommend the Alverbank Hotel. I booked the hotels private dining for a big birthday. Everything was wonderful, the food, the service and the rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at this lovely hotel for a family function in December 2021. Loved my room that had a bath with a sea view - heaven!! The staff could not by faulted. Attentive, friendly, helpful. A credit to the hotel. Recommend this place to anyone.

The Alverbank Country House Hotel (or "Alverbank Rooms") is a lovely grade II listed Victorian building that sits between a beautiful park and the sea front in Stokes Bay, with a view of the Isle of Wight. We received a warm welcome and a free upgrade to room 5, a double that looks out on the entrance to the nearby park, the front parking area, and allows glimpses of the sea. Current management is in the process of renovating the bedrooms. Although some details are still to be finished, the rooms do already look very nice, and are comfortable, with all the important bits like bathrooms having already been done. The interior of the room (no. 5) offered a combination of modern and vintage furnishings, an impressive old fireplace, and a completely renovated bathroom, where we especially loved the excellent, beautiful shower. The suite in vintage style went well with our idea of how a bathroom in a building like this should look. The breakfast, included in the room price, was continental, and offered everything we wanted, including warm croissants. Service is friendly, staff are helpful, parking is free, and the location is lovely. We're already planning our next visit.

Enjoyed a fabulous evening at Alverbank Hotel last night for their wine tasting evening. A five course meal with wine that complimented every dish. Service was excellent. The front of house staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, it tickled every taste bud and all 5 courses was an absolute pleasure. Hat's off to the chef and all kitchen staff that worked magic on the plates for a large sitting. The setting was cosy, log fires crackling away and more importantly, the atmosphere was relaxed and happy. This was the first of what I hope is a recurring event as I am already wanting to return.

Myself, Mum, my children, sister, niece and nephew have just returned home to Manchester after spending the weekend at The Alverbank to celebrate my Auntie and Uncle’s Ruby wedding anniversary, the perfect venue for a celebration, the accommodation, the atmosphere, food and drinks were all just fabulous, I was thrilled with my room, room 1…beautifully decorated, comfortable and the roll top bath overlooking the Solent was phenomenal, special thanks to Billy for being the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble and was always smiling, all the staff were exceptional and worked very hard to make our stay wonderful…thank you all and we will look forward to making another excuse to staying with you again! Just had the most amazing long weekend at this lovely gem of a hotel for our ruby wedding celebrations. Abby, Billy, Claire and staff could not do enough for us. Rooms very clean, comfortable, views amazing, Sunday roast the best. Will definitely be going back thank you all.

Dropped by with friends on a cold winter's day. Dog friendly and hunkered up by an open fire. Stopped for lunch and chose 3 tapa dishes for £18 which two of us shared. Unexpectedly the portions were very grand, delicious and delightfully presented. Staff were courteous and friendly, some banter too. Even showed us around the building which is 180 years old. Will definitely call again. Thank you Alverbank

Fantastic Christmas dinner with colleagues, in comfortable surroundings. The Christmas food was superb *Quote: “Best restaurant Christmas meal I’ve had!”. The service staff were happy and engaged, the atmosphere perfect. Considering the short notice booking, due to a venue letdown elsewhere, the Marketing Team did everything in their power to accommodate us. I will be booking the venue again, in the near future. Christmas Dinner Had a works Christmas Dinner 16 December 22. The food was fantastic, probably the best Christmas Meal I have had at any function. It was excellent. The only down was we felt we needed more time post Dinner to chat/socialise and drink.

Food and drink was absolutely amazing! Fabulous family lunch next to the roaring fire. Just perfect on a cold Saturday afternoon. Staff were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back for sure! Sea Bream was incredible. Plus love that they now stock Powder Monkey craft beer. Keep in’ it local 😀

An amazing family meal in the private dining room, meal was great, service incredible, nothing was too much trouble. Followed but an overnight stay. Highly recommended and will be back again. The thing that made the stay and meal was the staff. Well worth the money!

Had lunch in the restaurant today. Service was excellent but we all felt the prices were high for what we had - £14 for what amounts to burger and chips. Burger was tough. There is a log fire but it was left to go out. We were extremely cold which really spoilt our lunch time. I mentioned it to the waitress and she did move the heater nearer to us but it still didn’t throw out much heat. Make sure you wrap up well if you are going for a meal. Shame as it is in a beautiful setting.

Had a good time for a celebratory lunch. Was pleased to sit near a real fire! Prompt efficient service. There are some things for medical reasons I am unable to eat, so staff did there utmost to help. Prices reasonable.

We celebrated my mother-in-law's 90th birthday last Sunday at the Alverbank Hotel, it was great and nothing was too much trouble. We also had our 2 Standard Poodles with us, who were made so very welcome. They are absolutely dog friendly and have their own resident dog Florence who is delightful. We also stayed overnight and had a beautiful room with sea view. The team also went the extra mile to get our room ready for a very early check-in as we had a 4 hour journey and needed to shower etc before our family lunch. We will absolutely be going back for further stays when visiting the area to visit our family. A huge thank you to the team at the Alverbank for making our stay so memorable.

The Alverbank is a stunning hotel, with beautiful views over the water. We were there for the wedding of my son and the attention to detail was outstanding, the food was exceptional and our time there was made even more special by the staff; Claire and the team made sure that every request was met and all done with a smile and a great attitude. The room was cosy and warm with the log open fire which set the scene beautifully. The garden is private and with the water backdrop made the photos simply stunning. The room for the bride and groom was simply stunning! immaculate and every detail attended too. I would highly recommend this venue for any formal occasion or simply for a romantic weekend away.
