Allports Fish & Chips in Gwynedd

On holiday and on arrival I checked out the local eateries on TripAdvisor and found this place. Having spent most of the day travelling, we decided on fish and chips. On arrival, we found the staff really friendly (despite my English accent) The fish and chips, simply outstanding and particularly enjoyed the spicy curry sauce. Prices very reasonable Would certainly recommend this place

Good quick service, no complaints with the food. Friendly staff. Only reason I didnt give 5 is because I feel £4.95 is a little steep for a kids small meal.

Called in for a takeaway it took for ever to place my order then waiting another age to receive it. I found the fish and chips well over priced and the quality was not the best

I was recommended this Chip Shop, whilst on holiday. I'm very glad it was recommended. Best fish and chips I've had in years! There was quite a queue, but it moved along steadily. Lovely staff and very clean establishment. We would 100% make a point of going again, if in the area.

We really enjoyed food from here. Busy but worth the wait. Batter was really crispy. One thing needs sorting is extractor fan outside was dripping stuff from it onto pavement.

It was good to see that there was a good queue in the chippie on a Friday night. It was also good so see that the do fish in crumb. We got fried chicken and chips and were a bit surprised that the salt and vinegar question applied equally to the chicken as to the chips but it was lovely none the less.

Just had small fish n chips and a curry sauce, and they were delicious. The batter was lovely, l recommend anyone eating here, I had takeaway as I'm on holiday.

This chippy has a poor customer service, food is substandard. Refuse to believe there was a problem when a complaint was made. Walked out. They're in denial. Never again.

Whilst in the queue I was communicating via texts with my daughter who stayed in the car. She said she wanted potato scallops. Asked a young lad behind counter if they were them in the hot counter and he said yes and the last lot too. Asked when they were cooked as looked dry he said 6pm and it was now 7.10pm. Sent daughter a photo which she replied yes she would still have them. The lad then proceeded to throw them in the bin , when questioned he then said that I was going to put the photo on Facebook !!!!!! WOW how pathetic his mindset was. But being old enough to be his mother I wouldn’t understand. To begin with I’m not on Facebook and never have been. So to have been insulted and wrongly accused as a customer trying to decide on my purchase I was livid and couldn’t think straight at this point. We ordered but not the right stuff but had to make do, more lost sales as well as the binned scallops. He also said he was the manager wow !?!?!?!? Started to eat our food well the fish might as well as been chucked too as god knows when that was cooked skinny fish all batter but dry and hard. Not at all good. Had fish there before and it’s been nice. The chips were ok but they do give massive portions of chips again advocating waste, couldn’t eat them all. Be better to cut the portions and the price too. Also if he didn’t think they were Facebook worthy (whatever that looks like ) but he was still prepared to sell them up to that point beggars belief what their standards / due diligence procedures are ???? Morale of the story is do not upset your LOCAL customers. That’s it now I will take my money elsewhere out of principle. AND don’t get complacent with a bumper summer season as it’s a long winter here in Pwllheli so treat your locals with a bit more respect and intelligence!!!

Fish and chips was excellent. The place was busy (a good sign in itself) and the fish came straight out the frier and so did the chips. Both excellent. Staff always friendly and I recommend this place to friends and family who come to visit

Expensive but food is fantastic and cooked fresh. 2 adult meals and a child's meal came to just shy of £40. Don't get me wrong the food is great and I certainly can't complain as I enjoyed it, I just found the price a bit steep which will put people off. Apart from that if you want great food cooked fresh give these guys a try,

We made a really large order at a really busy time, the staff handled it all fantastically well. The young lady with glasses in particular was really doing a fantastic job running the show. Couldn't recommend enough

We visited Pwehlli on a rainy summer holiday to Abersoch. Supper from Allports chippy was just want we needed to cheer us up. Fantastic fish and chips, reasonably priced too. We love how they lift the skins on the chips, made them taste so much better. Highly recommend food from here.

ordered 3 meals , chips were underdone , sausage tasted like it was from farmfoods , and the price 😳😳😳😳…. disgusting , will never go back , no wonder a guy shouted arvonia is cheaper and better … there next time … only positive is the gravy was nice :-)

I went for the battered cod, chips and peas and it was cooked to absolute perfection. Great portion sizes, fresh food and lovely customer service from the team. My boyfriend had the special burger which was top restaurant quality and really tasty. Wish we had taken some photos but we ate it too quickly! Would definitely recommend - our favourite chippy!

Absolutely shocking service, for low quality food, on top of messing up orders, as well forgetting 2 FULL meals, after paying and thoroughly going through the order multiple times. You’d expect better for such prices. What meals we did receive, were bland and soggy. Customer service is just as bad as it’s near enough impossible to get through .

Had the smallest fish I've ever seen. Not cooked fresh, almost cold and very flat. Polite staff but never again. There are far better chippies in Pwllheli than Allports.

We enjoyed our chips and the staff were very accommodating, shame they were out of scallops. There isn't anywhere obvious to sit and eat them nearby so drove to one of the local beaches to enjoy them.

Top fish and chips ! And a brown roll to go with it as well (much to my wife’s chagrin). Really enjoyed the food as a take out on Pwllheli front. Downside was a loooong queue. Couldn’t quite work out why it took so long to serve people as it seemed food wasn’t ready. But will go again - good chips !

Stopped by for a late lunch, Haddock and chips for 2. Very well organised re queue and sanitation. Delicious, light crispy batter and a very god size of haddock. Generous portions of haddock and the home made tartar sauce made for a perfect lunch. Thankyou very much to the friendly young man at the till point.

I have eaten at Alport’s fish and chip shop and had great fish and chips, however I called in today and having waited some 25 minutes. I ordered 3 portions of chips 2 fish and 2 portions of curry sauce.The chips were leather like and the batter on the fish soggy. The shop was very busy and I would have expected freshly cooked food. It tasted as if it had been sitting about from lunchtime. I won’t be rushing back!Peter Hardman PhD.

Chippy tea on a Saturday night, even with covid-19 issue not too long to get served but worth the wait, then sat by the harbour, the chips were perfectly cooked and the pie was spot on

Had a lovely fish, chips and curry sauce takeaway from here the other night. Unfortunately we waited an hour for the privilige standing in the queue. I would recommend ordering online. We had a family at the back of our queue who ordered online and then went to the front to pick up it up within 10 minutes.

We visited the takeaway during the COVID restrictions. The wait was long (due to the obvious popularity) but the system was efficient and queuing system well organised. The wait was worth it! Up there with the best fish and chips we have ever had! Generous portions too. Another place to return to!

We had traditional fish and chips from Allports in Pwllheli. I asked in Welsh (badly) and the member of staff smiled. The food was excellent, and the mini size fish and chips was the perfect size for us. It was piping hot, the perfect batter. The chips were not soggy or greasy. When we are back in the area, we will be back for more.

Have been using the chippy for a while its unfortunate that it's a hit and miss ... I get home to find my order wrong or missing a item ... today I think was the final straw as it was my lads meal that was missing items ... we understand the occasional missing item or the fact the beans turn into peas but it's happening more often then not ... depending on who serves its dependent on the size of the chips...

Been coming here for years. It is hands down the best chippy I know of in Gwynedd. Fish is always crispy and fresh (and MSC graded), chips are perfect balance of crunchy and soft, mushy peas are delicious and natural (as opposed to the fluorescent greens stuff you can get in other places).In short: Allports Pwllheli is the best chippy around!

By far the best we have visited. Staff are lovely and the food is even better. The chips are a different level to others we have tried in the area. Will definitely be returning next time we're in the area.

Visited Allport’s fish and chips last months and it didn’t let me down . COD was perfect and you could tell it was fresh, chips were soft and went perfectly with the mushy peas. Can’t recommend the place enough, staff members all friendly, will be returning!

First of all I came in last night for my usual cod, chips and beans... or should I say COLD cod, HARD chips and MUSTY beans... I have been sick all night... the food was cold and had a funny taste to it... especially the tub of beans... one spoonful and they tasted disgusting like 3 day old beans left in a dusty cabinet... Not fresh food served here at all... As for the service... some too young to be polite and when I asked the usual member of staff vanessa to add beans... she ignored me and carried on talking to other staff... I had to ask three times and even then she seemed VERY rude and even pulled a face at me has a sour face everytime I come in... no wonder friends advise to boycott... not what is wanted when ordering food... Disappointed with the local chip shop... Will NOT be recommending here or coming to eat here again....

Had dinner here this evening and couldn’t believe the previous reviews after we had such a fabulous meal in a clean welcome environment. Efficient service with well presented meals. 5 more than satisfied customers. All food tasted as if it had just come from the pan and couldn’t fault! Would highly recommend the breaded fish!

I will NEVER set foot in this place again!! AVOID!! Came here on a Sunday night for a takeaway. Young staff behind the till were not very welcoming. Chips were far from being fresh- brown and crispy with strong smell- horrible- wouldn't feed them to a rat!! They were definitely reheated from the day before, or even before then! Went home and all of us were very ill that evening including our young children. Even our friends who bought food there that same night were ill for days as we were. Coincidence!? Environmental health have been informed...

Called in last night to get supper on the way home. Ordered a small fish and chips, small is an understatement, wouldn't have fed a child. Also ordered 3 pieces of southern fried chicken, but as they were a bit on the large size so we were only given 2 pieces but paid for 3!

Hubby and me decided to get a takeaway lunch from here today (Wednesday). The young lady who served us was very pleasant. We ordered a large portion of chips (to share), a large tub of peas and a pickled egg, which came to a total of £5.20 (contactless card payments accepted). The food was neatly packed in a recyclable paper bag. We ate our meal by the nearby cob embankment. The chips were hot. The mushy peas were thick. The hard boiled egg was mildly pickled.

I have visited this chippy in Porthmadog and Pwllheli both times after eating the chips me and my son and daughter vomited maybe the chrome had worn off the baskets and contaminated the oil however I will never go there again!

Me and my friend and our children went to the restaurant to eat food. Asked for chips cheese and gravy and a children’s meal. When we got our food I noticed that the cheese was freezing cold out the fridge and on my chips so I asked if they could melt it as it was just making the chips cold. The staff said no she wouldn’t do this for me then after the food my daughter got an ice cream as part of her meal. She couldn’t have an ice cream as the woman didn’t switch the machine on that morning and we still had to pay full price for the children’s meal total rip off £8 for just nuggets and chips no pudding

What you would expect from a chip shop - however when there are a few customers it can be slow. Staff appear to have allocated roles and some reluctant to help out to ease queues. Food itself was hot and tasty after a wait.

The fish would not have satisfied a well fed cat. I would query whether the fish should have been thrown back to grow a bit more? They served the chips in a small bowl to hide how tiny was the portion. A massive rip off at £11.95...it included a slice of ,from the taste, an "Every day Essential" sliced loaf.

I revisted Allports as it has been refurbished, and new restaurant attached, I decided to use the Restaurant bit to eat in, I chose a a fish meal deal, I got the healthy version, small fish, 12 chips in a bowl, 1/2 glass of coke,less than 1/2 a can, but paying the unhealthy prices, if anyone going there it is better going to the takeaway side, getting a full helping eating it outside, in the car, or take home. It is the cheaper option.

Small fish and chips with mushy peas or beans or gravy for £3-95. Plenty for the average person but larger portions are available. The fish was good with crispy batter and as many chips as it was possible to get in the box !! Will return when next in Pwllheli

We called in today wed 4 sept , I ordered the haddock ,waitress came back and told us they had run out of haddock !!!;so I ordered the fried chicken , my husband ordered the cod special ,the meals arrived within two minutes , my chicken had obviously been cooked earlier as it was dry , the chips were nothing to brag about either , my husband enjoyed his cod special , the music was far too loud .I expect when you sit in the restaurant part to be served freshly cooked meals ,we will not be coming back .

Planned a holiday to Haven and was looking forward to going Allport Fish and Chips in Pwllheli as I had been before and had always considered them to do the best fish and chips I've ever had pleasure of eating. So I made a purpose visit to have lunch and ordered the small fish and chips meal deal which was nearly £8 each. The food came and I put my fork into my fish and nearly choked on fish bones. I looked into another piece of fish and that was also full of bone so I examined the whole piece and found it was riddled with bone. When I spoke to a member of staff they stated it does say there may be bones in fish so I looked on the menu confused as I could not see this on menu, and then found that statement in small in the payment methods on the opposite side to the fish menu.

Best chippy and cafe serving food in Pwllheli. Excellent food and excellent service. They have gluten free options so it suited us very well. The best fish I have tasted for a long time. You will not be disappointed.

We came over from France and had read a good write-up in the Guardian recently on this eatery. We wanted to eat in the restaurant and my wife (French) tried to explain this while i parked the car (difficult to park here). The end result was that she mistakenly ordered a meal for the family in the takeaway section and we were told we couldn't eat in the restaurant (although outside where it was raining we could sit down!).

Whilst my food was excellent, the staff were pre occupied with another staff member who, i guessed, was about to be disciplined. They were all talking amongst themselves about this 'problem', totally ignoring requests from their customers. My order was missing the chips i ordered, although i did get them and they were very nice. Another customer was asked whether he would like his peas on the tray or in a carton. He said he would like it on his food, but got it in a carton. He then said to the girl not to put it in a bag, and.....you guessed it....she put it in a bag!! This only came about because of the gossiping going on between the counter and cooking staff. Not good to watch!!!

Visited with a group of friends for the reopening with great live music. Fish and chips were excellent , all served with a smile. Great evening.

Excellent service. We went on a very busy Saturday and I cannot fault the service despite the amount of customers at the time, and despite being 6 of us with all different orders we had no problem and the wait was not too long

We had a really great take away from here - the fish and chips were delicious! I was particularly impressed with the fact that the takeaway meal was dished up in 100% fully biodegradable boxes instead of single use polystyrene trays. Well done.

ive been going regulaty and all of the young females are very aggy and never seem to have a smile. they all look like they dont want to be there. was served my a young boy last time and he was very polite and the fryer always gives a smile aswell but the girls just dont seem bothered to be there

Sparky new counter and restaurant but the waiting has increased, portions got smaller, kids meal same as adults small fish and chips. My fish was soggy and in the time it was put in the box went soft and horrible. Won’t be going again.
