Allegro Cafe & Restaurant in Kingston upon Thames

I thought the food was not up to "restaurant" quality. The prawns weren’t deveined. With the Calamari, the squid rings were lacking. Underneath the breading, the squid rings were only a few millimetres in diameter. So basically breading for around £8. Service wise, I felt we were an inconvenience, for example; service was short of brusk, we were given table for our group with a chair at both ends and no mention of specials until a fellow diner spotted a blackboard across the room which was after we’d ordered.

First visit to this lovely local restaurant that we have walked past many times over the years but no idea why we haven't tried before and wow! what an excellent enjoyable evening! Amazing delicious food, great service & ambience we had a great meal and evening with friends. We will definitely be back and have recommended this friendly restaurant to all our friends.

Went there a month ago and had a wonderful lamb shank which was a special. Returned this evening to repeat but no lamb shank this evening. Opted for a 8oz sirloin steak which was out of this world, so tasty and tender. I haven’t had a decent steak in a restaurant for ages, well done Allegro. Great family restaurant, excellent value.

Family meal. Could not wait to get there as the food is always delicious & plenty of it. Plenty of room on the table & service second to none.

Five of us met up for a mini reunion and had a variety of dishes all of which were excellent and very tasty. The service was prompt and very friendly and the bill was fair. We will no doubt return later this year

Calf's liver with bacon & mashed potato. Despite being very busy service was top notch. This does not surprise me as it seems it is run by family/ owners.

A last minute decision to eat out led us to this local cafe/restaurant. It is clearly loved by locals as many of the customers were obviously regulars. The menu is the usual pasta/pizza offering but non the worse for that. My starter of mussels was generous and tasty and the caesar salad main well dressed and satisfying. My partner's cannelloni was a whopping portion and thoroughly enjoyed. The service is very friendly and helps create a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It was great to see a local mid-range restaurant so busy and thriving - and deservedly so.

We arrived at a busy time, had a warm welcome and were seated straight away. The food was beautiful and fresh, and the house red wine was good. Service was good,attentive and friendly. I have already recommended the place,and am looking forward to visiting again.

Allegros has been in Surbiton for years, yet I'd never visited it until tonight. I am so glad I did - what a great restaurant! There are so many chains in the area and we get used to average food, but this was so different - lovely home cooked food and generous portions. The staff were lovely, laid back and super friendly. The food was delicious. Do visit, it's a hidden gem in between Surbiton's endless coffee shop soulless chains. And super good value too.

Cosy little place opposite the railway station. Very generous portions of delicious food served quickly. Staff v efficient. A great little spot for a good value meal out in Surbiton.

I shared a lovely meal and a bottle of wine with my wife and her daughter. The food was hot and tasty, the portions generous, the service welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was warm. We will definitely return one day!

We had a great family meal, 3 adults a d 1 child. The drinks and starters arrived quickly and tasted great. Mains arrived on time and was very good!! Deserts was also lovely too. Honestly I cannot think of a negative thing to say. The restaurant has now been refurbished so the ambience is much better than the last time we visited some years back, not that it was terrible before. We will definitely be coming back!

Now that restrictions have lifted, Allegro is reborn. A revamp of the decor and menu but without losing choice or ambience.

I have always enjoyed meals at the Allegro. Food and drink reasonably priced. Friendly staff. One minor complaint is that the menus have seen better days and most of the desserts listed are no longer available. Also pity they don't seem to have a website.

We used to go to allegro after work on a Friday night but since we retired have got out of the habit.. mistake! We just had a lovely meal with generous portions and the bill was a pleasant surprise.

Our family absolutely love Allergo's. The staff are impeccable. The food is glorious and the service is spot on. I would definitely recommend the steak with mushroom sauce! Absolute heaven on a plate. 5 stars all round.

Although the decor has changed and the door moved since last visit (18years ago), this is still an excellent restaurant with great service and food. Good to see the restaurant busy on a Monday and popular with the locals. Will hopefully back, with greater frequency!

My partner and I come here every month or so for dinner and are never disappointed. As quiet and unassuming as the restaurant is on first glance, the food is always delicious and the service good. Considering the local competition, Allegro is incredibly good value for money. The manager/owner is very attentive and always so friendly.

I probably go to Allegro about once a month/six weeks. Though the appearance is a bit stark, the food and service are excellent and it remains reasonable value for money. There is nothing fancy about this place but it has a good local clientele who clearly value it -not least as not part of a chain! Most tastes can be satisfied and the wine list is ok

We have been going here for years and the food is delicious and ridiculously good value for the size and quality. The specials are always worth a try but if you get there after they gave gone the grilled lamb steak with mange tout and pan fried potatoes and onion is my "go to" dish and is too tasty for words. The missus loves the fish on the board but her go to is the calves liver with bacon, mustard mash and delicious gravy (sorry "jus") always done to perfection. The staff are very nice and we always have a little natter and banter with the owner who always makes you feel very welcome. Throw in a good house red and the fact it is opposite Surbiton Station and you can see why this place ticks all the boxes.

After a few months living in Surbiton and trying most places, starting with the fancy Chinese to the Fancy Thai, through others. I have found this little Gem just opposite Surbiton Station.

This place came heavily recommended to me and I was not disappointed. The interior isn't anything special however, the service and quality is second to none. I am vegetarian and so was the person I went with. We both had pasta (Penne Pomodoro and Linguine Alla Gorganzola). I'm not the biggest fan of Gorganzola and thought the cream base may be too heavy. I ma please to say the dish great, it wasn't over powering at all and had the perfect balance of both cheese and cream. I like my chillies so I requested fresh chillies to be added.

Don’t let the complete lack of ambience put you off!! The food is excellent and the wine is moderately priced. The staff are very friendly and the food is all home cooked.

We were pleasantly surprised to discover a super Italian restaurant in Surbiton with very reasonable prices - a rarity in Surrey. I enjoyed a fish stew, served with garlic bread and my partner said his spaghetti bolognaise was the best he's had for ages. The puddings were delicious, too. The gooey chocolate melt-in the middle cake was a wonderful end to the meal.

We are always coming here for breakfast. In fact so often our lovely waitress Nadia knows what we want, even my husband's second coffee! We are going to come here for dinner as we've heard good reports. Lovely gentle place to sit, eat & unwind. I highly recommend it.

Surbiton high street has a number of places to eat & drink. Whether you're looking for great Italian food or just a latte in the afternoon this is well worth a visit.

A hidden gem in Surbition. After a few beers at a local pub the search for somewhere to have dinner began. Allegro wasn't our first choice option however I am so glad we went. The food was really tasty with very generous portions. The staff were really friendly and attentive. It felt like a beautiful family run restaurant whereby a lot of love went into the cooking. The bill at the end was a pleasant surprise too!thanks for a lovely meal. We'll be back again and we'll tell our friends.

My husband and I have just had the best pizza ever. Forget Pizza Express. If you want a great pizza with lashing of topping at half the price of Pizza Express or Zizzi then head to Allegro's just across from Surbiton Station. We eat here very often and believe me the pizzas are just amazing. But then most things we have here are really good. We have taken our younger generation here on many occasions and they all love it because they are made feel as special as the adults.

I have been here quite a while ago and decided to give the place another try.The interior is still lacking but the food has improved.I had a pizza and enjoyed it.Service is ok.Even so the restaurant is always popular.

What a lovely evening in this charming restaurant in the heart of Surbiton. My girlfriend, whose vegan, rang before hand to say so and the person on the line was very accommodating and informative. She brought her own cheese in and from the moment we all arrived we were welcomed warmly. She said it was one of the best pizza's she'd had and for a restaurant that hadn't dealt much with vegans, that's a great start! The meal was reasonably priced and good quality. The food and the company was enjoyed by all.

We have been going to Allegro for fifteen years now, we are made to feel very welcome, we know the menu well and have many favourites, but there are always specials which are lovely. I have often seen single people eating here and they obviously feel comfortable due to the lovely staff. On our most recent visit, on the way home from holiday with suitcases (no problem!), we both had the special pork dish with a lovely sauce, clean plates!

We are always made to feel special when we go to allegro, and always find something that everyone likes to eat. Our familiy include Coeliac and Crohn's Disease sufferers, so this can be tricky. We have found the food to be nicely presented, and tasty.

Just had lunch at this restaurant. We have dined there previously and often and always enjoyed the food. We started with lentil soup which was fine but the salads which followed were dreadful. My Caesar salad was swimming in the creamy sickly dressing which meant eating the lettuce was a complete non-starter. My husband was served a prawn salad in which the avocado was a hard as a rock and totally inedible. What a disappointment. Not sure if a new chef is in the kitchen but he certainly needs re-training if that is the case.

This was our first visit to Allegro, and definitely the last. We ordered the cheese burger and chips, and scampi and chips. The chips had been cooked in old oil and had a really horrible taste to them, the burger lacked any taste, and the ciabatta bread was burnt on the edges. My boyfriends scampi had been deep fried so much that the scampi was dark brown and really crispy with a cheap mush inside. No salad dressings offered and cheap vinegary ketchup.When we asked for the bill, the manager could see we hadn't eaten our food but he didn't ask if anything had been wrong with the meal. Awful food, no atmosphere, and stinky old oil smell by kitchen and toilets!

I often sit here and have a breakfast or lunch meal with friends or as a solo visitor. Three or four tables & chairs outside the front (If you're a smoker).. & comfortable & clean Inside too.A toilet Is available for M&F customers also.Coffee's are gorgeous, & the meals are plenty.Overall, A wonderful place to dine, & welcoming disabled visitors or those with mental health Issues.. The warmth Is much felt.

What seems like a little cafe from the outside is something rather special on the inside,the whole place has a friendly feel,the staff were efficient,polite and professional and the food was amazing.we were a large party of 15 and the staff served us all with ease nothing was too much trouble,across the table we had a few different dishes but the lamb steak with new potatoes ,mange tout,onions and rosemary butter was really quite something.Wish we lived closer.

I have been to Allegro 3 times in the last couple of months, each time for coffee and hot chocolate. Each time a member of staff has greeted each of us an ensured we are comfortably seated and then to take our order. When we have gone to pay they have been happy for us to pay separately. During my visits I have seen customers being greeted as returning, remembered, valued customers. I also noticed how the staff cleaned the tables, seats and plumped up the cushions and ensured the flowers on the table have water in. The staff seem to have a pride in their cafe/restaurant and I believe the serve a range of food from breakfasts to dinners depending on the time of day. I believe their drink prices are reasonable. I would be happy to suggest taking a friend there.

We come here very frequently with family and the food never dissapoints. Some of my favourites are the seafood pasta, prawn and crab penne, spagetti carbonara, lasange and the spinach canneloni. It is very reasonable for what you get and also compared to the local resteraunts. You also get a warm and friendly service from dedicated staff

We've been visiting Allegros for many years, and even after moving out of the area we still make a point of visiting when we can. The service is exceptional, as friendly a welcome as you could hope for and the food is excellent. Although the main menu is worth exploring in depth breakfast at Allegros is one of the hidden jems of the area.

Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent food, in particular the pizzas which are better than Pizza Express by miles. The breakfast are also very good value. It would be nice to have an all day breakfast on the menu too.The only criticisms I have are the House Red wine being poor quality and toilets need a desperate face lift. The specials board can also be a little pricey.

Went to Allegro on a Friday night. Ordered the prawn and crab Penne, it smelt like a bucket of off shell fish but I thought I'd give it a go. It didn't get any better, I left most of it. When mentioning it to the manager he said that thats the way they cook it all the time and gave no apology. We wont be going back and certainly wont be recommending.

I love the breakfast here! I get the veggie option and the other half gets the meat - sausages on both are very good. Reasonable prices with outside street seating. Only downer is the concentrated OJ.

This is a fine place for a quick meal that is served by a friendly and efficient team. Food is very good with reasonable range for those with allergies.

Called into the Allegro for breakfast with my wife. The manager is very friendly and we both ordered the Full English breakfast with tea. We did not have to wait long for the meal which was served piping hot and was delicious. We are going to return one evening to try the rest of the fare.

Unassuming and informal cafe... A few outdoor tables, right opposite the station. Surprisingly good food- pasta was excellent and not too expensive- highly recommend.

This was a return visit after 5 or 6 years. It had always been a favourite restaurant. Since then it is under new management but retains its very high standard. there is a wide menu and the food is cooked beautifully. Well placed on main street opposite train station.

Popped in for breakfast this time. Excellent, hot and plenty of it. All freshly cooked. Service was fast and friendly and the coffee hot. Never too expensive and always busy. When ever I am in Surbiton I will always call in for food. Best place around.

Visited with a couple of friends for the first time. Café is fairly large and we were early for lunch so it was not too busy. The service was friendly and efficient. My colleagues were very satisfied with their meals so all credit there. I have to say that my main course was a let down. I had pork and it was dry and tough which also meant it was flavourless. Overall my experience was pleasant and I would revisit for another lunch. I would avoid the pork next time.

I have been a regular customer at Allegro for the last 5 years and I am very impressed by the service and quality. It is ideally located opposite Surbiton Railway Station. The Staff are extremely friendly and offer good service. The Governor (Nesti) looks after his customers extremely well. There is a good and tasty breakfast and a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. The specials (chalked up on a board) always offer something attractive as an alternative to the main menu. Open 7 days a week. The coffee is excellent and is a welcome alternative from all those dreary, stereotypical chain coffee shops. Give Allegro a try.

I have visited here 3-4 times and each time wondered why I had bothered, the food is basic and over salted , the chef is a genius in that each time I have been he has been able to suck the moisture out of any meat I ordered ..........then there is the creepy owner who keeps calling you''love '' and who is also a very touchy feely being doesn't he know that in this day and age you don't go stroking peoples backs or patting them without an invite to do so.I don't expect I will ever be back to this establishment and for that I am grateful as I prefer not to eat food that is over salted , loaded with uncooked garlic and has been dried out.

Friendly supportive service as always. Good food and drinks reasonably priced. Ok the loos could be better - but they serve their purpose. The important stuff - the food and service can't be faulted and is reasonably priced. Keep it up! We shall be back!

I had lunch with two friends and we shared starters which were very good. My friends both had chicken which they said was excellent . I had pork with a mushroom sauce. The sauce was very good indeed but the dish was let down a little by the pork being rather dry. However excellent service and friendly waitress. I must say the toilets are in need if a serious revamp. I shall no doubt return.

I have dined at Allegro numerous times over the past 10 years. Never disappointed. Great menu. Nice atmisphere. Reasonably priced. Nesti, the Albanian owner, is a real character. Good to support local independent businesses rather than the chains.

The blackboard changes almost daily. The food is fresh and you know it is fresh and prepared daily in the kitchen by the taste. The service is very friendly and efficient. The staff remain the same month after month after month.which says a lot about the friendly management. You want breakfast then this is the best in town, you want a chicken salad then believe me this is the best. I have a friend who comes up from Portsmouth to meet me for lunch every month and he always orders this as do I. You want a friendly evening meal with a good menu and a daily blackboard of specials at a good price then you are not going to get much better, My husband and Imlove is restaurant. This is a great restaurant in Surbiton. The menus is Classic Italian with all the usuals. The food is great as is the selection of wines. Service is always friendly and efficient. The prices are good. Highly recommend this restaurant

I’ve been dining here for nearly a decade (I last reviewed this restaurant a year ago) and have never had a bad meal or poor service. Exceptionally good value for money too, can’t recommend it highly enough.

I came here several years ago with friends and remember being impressed. Went again last week, as my boyfriend and I are shortly moving to the area and was surprised to see that the interior has had a refit since my last visit - it looks great and gives the place a nice atmosphere.I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced the food was, and it really was excellent. I had bruschetta to start, whilst my boyfriend had cheesy garlic bread - simple dishes, but surprisingly hard to get perfect - these were. I then had a halloumi and chorizo salad from the special's board, which was delicious and the perfect size, whilst my boyfriend had a yummy chorizo and chicken pasta dish from the main menu. We then shared an ice cream dessert, and including drinks, the bill was around £30, which I think is excellent value.Furthermore the service from the owner himself was brilliant - he was friendly, but not overbearing, and made us feel like valued customers. I have a feeling we'll be regulars from now on!

Been coming here for over 10 years. Nesty is a lovely host who always greets you with a smile. Not the most gourmet experience but fresh consistently good portions of nice Mediterranean food at a reasonable price. You are never rushed never bothered and you can just sit back and chill if ever there is a problem fixed at once. Great for date night or friends. Try it. Liver is very tasty

We visited here again today. Very surprised we were the only ones in there at lunchtime. We shared a pizza, portion of chips and a salad, plus a large Americano and a large latte - all for £18.20. Service great, food great, what's not to like?

What I love about this place is that they do not pretend to be something they are not. Allegro is your local Italian restaurant with good quality produce, good cooking and reasonably priced. A nice place to go on a date, whether the first or in an established relationship. Great ambience and service.

I like this place - staff is very friendly and makes me welcome every time I go and I appreciate that. Food - i have tried quite few dishes of their menu. I do not like their pasta and pizza. the worst one was seafood pasta with tomato sauce. the sauce tasted as if it came from the jar of smart price creamy tomato sauce. their fish cakes are amazing. I love it. their avocado and prawns salads sooo good as well. I love it. I love their chicken stuffed with sun dried tomato, This dish is soo good. I love it. Overall, I found staff very welcoming and charming, and food is good. this place is a safe option for me that i know i get decent food.

Popped in one evening around 21.00 for a light supper after work when we didn't want to cook. For a mains and a soft drink We were tempted with a parma ham mozerello , tomato salad starter to share - the oil dressing was excellent and the sauces for both mains were dreamy, creamy . Great value for money
