Lunched here again on Sunday .. WOW. Superb food and friendly efficient staff. The place was so busy we sat in the bar, which we loved. Delicious hot smoked salmon tart, sirloin of beef, served pink, yum and to finish creme brûlée with poached plums and cardamom shortbread. Cannot fault this Inn ... my favourite in the Borders ... love the place. X

Visited the Allanton Inn for the first time on Friday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. I pass through Allanton 2 or 3 times a week but never looked in. The service and friendly ambience was excellent, the food served was second to none. My fillet steak cooked exactly how I ordered it. This has got to be one of the best establishments in the local area.

A small group of us had dinner at the Allanton Arms recently to celebrate a retirement and birthday. The restaurant only had a few people seated but the food took 1 hour and 10 minutes to appear. I felt that this was far too long. Some of the meals were nice but the fish batter was not cooked very well.

So over many years I have been to The Allanton and it will always be one of my favourite Berwickshire restaurants. However last night was just about perfect. Six of started with drinks outside and then into the pub itself for a comfy table and exquiste food. The Eyemouth crab, sea bream, haddock, risotto and more were all remarked upon and my lamb was gorgeous. Service is always easy, friendly and accommodating. Thanks for this. We went on to an excellent concert at Paxton House in a very good mood!

Recommended by the owner of our holiday cottage. It was a gem; welcoming and friendly. We had dinner there and it was popular with the locals, even mid week. Not what you would call an extensive menu but certainly packed a punch, way above its weight. Midweek night and it was full for the early dinner but worth waiting till 20:30.

This is in almost every way an excellent pub - both for accommodation and food. Friendly and helpful proprietors and staff. Very good location (as long as you have a car) for visiting nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed and the adjacent coastline - both sides of the border and including Lindisfarne (Holy Island) ( do check the tides and plan accordingly). Beds a little hard but room was otherwise also excellent. Food the first evening was superb and beautifully presented - would have got a 5+ review, especially the pork special. But the third night we were there (we ate out the 2nd night) the food was disappointing - poorly presented and not especially well prepared (even though one of us had the same special dish as before because it had been so wonderful). Can only assume there was a different chef?

Called on the off chance they may have a table for this evening and lucky for us they did. Had a delicious piece of cod... cooked to perfection, served with salsa verde, peas, lettuce and crushed potatoes! Mmm.... was delicious. Service was attentive and efficient. If I could critic anything it would be the wine options all by the glass choices not to my taste, would of loved a glass of New Zealand sav blanc or a Chablis maybe! Such a great fish dish deserved it! Nicer by the bottle wines are available however couldn't warrant it for just the 2 of us when one has to drive. Anyway none the less nearly perfect!

The Allanton Inn is the best option for a decent meal in the area and from time to time, the food is absolutely fantastic. We visit only once a year but it has become a firm favourite for us and I really look forward to seeing what is on the specials board each time we visit. Seasonal produce dictates what one can expect to find but we have never been disappointed although I would tend to agree with some of the comments about the attentiveness of the front of house team although overall, they do a great job.The potted mackerel and mackerel ceviche starter and the rack of lamb were the stand out dishes for us during our visit in June 2017.Looking forward to returning next year!

This was our first visit to the Allanton Inn and expected so much more considering they have recently won an award. Using locally sourced produced it was disappointing that they could only offer chips, mushrooms, half a tomato and two very large battered onion rings with a beautiful fillet of beef which was cooked as requested. However my issue is the lack of customer service. No welcome when we arrived, no enquiries if we enjoyed our meal, and no thank you and hope to see you again and therefore no tip left.

Inside the pub was very pleasant, with very friendly staff, very good service and a good bar. The food overall was very good, there were a couple of issues in that the roast potatoes were hard on the outside and dry in the middle, the veg was cooked just right and the beef was beautiful however there was only one slice, not enough for a man. The Holy Cow beer was lovely as was the Red Wine. Overall we all enjoyed ourselves and the cost worked out to approx £60 per couple all in.

Went here for a b]family birthday. What can I say not only is the Inn just delightful inside and out but the food was just wonderful. Two of us shared the fish platter to start and it was just wonderful. If any of the platter was anything to go by then I'm back for any of the dishes on their own! I had the day's special, an Italian fish stew, it was beautiful, more substantial than a bouillabaisse and infinitely more flavoursome, helped by the quality of the seafood. This was reflected in my partner's cod, which was both subtle in flavour, fresh and moist. The service was its usual Borders best, relaxed, helpful and friendly. I have no hesitation in recommending the Inn to locals and visitors,

My wife had a vegetarian option with long dead greens, her son a steak and I went for the simple fish and chips... this was last Thursday and my stomach is still upset. I suspect the fish was frozen, microwaved to thaw it then cooked... not the best way to do this. I was ill all that evening and my system has still not fully recovered tonight, Monday night. Staff were distant, the restaurant not warm and a workman was drilling and hammering in the bedroom above the seating area. A memorable meal for all the wrong reasons.

Genuine locally sourced food, prepared from scratch with real skill. Wine is selected carefully to match the food. The ale is always top notch! Cant say enough good things about the 'Allinton Inn'. They do everything from cure the salmon, to bake the bread they give you before the meal. The pasta is home made too, not a short cut in sight. They usually grow veg in the beer garden for the kitchen too. The rabbit dish I had was the best i have ever had, and rabbit is so hard to cook so wellI. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a true 'borders' dining experience.Special thanks to the staff who took superb care of care of us for our special anniversary night out. Sited halfway between Eyemouth or Berwick and Dun, we heard of and visited this splendid inn, for dinner. We were not disappointed at all. This inn may or may not be Michelin, but the food and service were simply outstanding. Well worth the trip into the countryside.Breads and oil, to start. Then I started in earnest with the mussels, delicious. My main was the pork in cider jus, a signature dish for me, a delight with their style, accompaniments, and flavours. Some of my colleagues went for the North Sea Cod, we all rated highly. Finally had the have desert, as i'd passed the cheese boards, on the way into our scullery.I was well behaved, only having 3, but the 6 cheeses were sooo tempting. I did share with Dr. Phi, too.The Arran with sweet onion (a delight), the Reiver (naturally - steel bonnet land), and Dunsyre Blue, all great. The girls served us perfectly, timing always spot on, never late, no delays, just GREAT.Just over £30 for 3 courses and drinks it was GREAT value too. THIS INN IS WHAT A WHOLE LOAD OF OTHER INNS AND RESTAURANTS WOULD LIKE TO THINK THEY ARE LIKE. - But they're NOT. The Inn is a wee bit off the beaten track but the food is well worth making a diversion for.It had one of those menus where everything sounds so good you find it difficult to decide what to have! All four in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Service from our two waitresses was excellent.

Very good food and service but lacking that certain something. Good menu with lots of choice. Very bland dining room with vast expanse of blank wall to look at (depending on which table you are given )Would go back again but very much doubt if we would have been remembered from the last time! Slightly impersonal and not the cheapest dining experience.

The inn is a very unpretentious place and the inside is not impressive. However the menu is excellent with a good range of dishes and all reasonably priced. We went there when it was very busy due to a large wedding party (of which we were a part). The poor staff were rather harrassed but maintained a cheerful disposition through it all. Our order was taken quickly at the bar but we then had to wait about 40 minutes until it came which was a bit annoying-I think our order was missed due to the busyness in the kitchen. However when it came my pork belly and pork tenderloin was presented beautifully and was delicious. My wife went for the king prawn salad which, again, was very good although she felt the red pesto was a bit overpowering for the dish. However I would recommend the inn as a very good place for a lunch and, I should imagine for an evening meal too.

I stayed as I was on my way to Scotland and it was a quick stop. I think it's better than average but there's either average or very nice. My opinion was just niceThe staff were friendly and the room was nice and clean. I left early and wasn't offered a continental breakfast. When you're paying £85 per night you expect that. I personally felt it was over priced and based on that fact I would rather stay else where as I didn't even get my breakfast in that. A shame as it was a nice place. Please offer a continental to paying guest that have paid for their breakfast

Been a few times here, never had the feeling that we were remembered, food good but overpriced and always felt rushed when eating.

I stay here regularly whilst working locally and can only say positive things about this place. The staff are all very welcoming and sociable, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean, tidy and modern with all mod cons, including decent Wifi.Food is fantastic, both the evening menu selection and the breakfast options.Located in a small and quiet little village, its perfect for a base to explore the wider area of the Borders

Here for a wedding. Fabulous food, staff brilliant, can't recommend highly enough. Would be a great base for exploring Northumbria and Scottish Borders. We plan to come back for a holiday.

A small Inn with everything - clean and very comfortable rooms, superb local food, quiet location in an area full of both natural beauty and various other attractions. Will be going there again!

Had a lovely meal, great restaurant and the service was good, you do have to book as it gets very busy the bread is freshly made and we did have two lots, could do with a few more vegetarian options but overall a lovely meal

Had an evening meal with friends - nice starters, great main course - no room for dessert. Breakfast was marvellous - some wonderful choices and all well prepared. Fantastic selection of gins in the bar - tried a few that I hadn't seen before.

Pleasant evening, attentive staff and although not particularly cosy the two restaurant rooms were clean and well set out allowing sufficient space between tables. The menu was simple and the food good. One suggested amendment would be to serve gravy accompanying any meat dish in a separate jug rather than pouring it over the food directly. This would cater for individual preferences and allow those not enjoying a "wet plate" to abstain from gravy should they wish. Otherwise a very acceptable and enjoyable evening providing good all-round value for money.

Ate here as part of a group for a retirement dinner. Fantastic setting and atmosphere, very friendly and the highest standard of service. My starter was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten at a restaurant - pulled pork croquettes. Absolutely delicious, they would definitely be on my "last food before you die" menu. My main course was stuffed chicken breast served with potatoes, some sort of odd sounding yet surprisingly tasty pea/bacon/lettuce/baby onion concoction, and a spiced butternut and coconut veloute which just tasted amazing and has ruined me for any other sauce in the future! Dessert rounded off my culinary dream nicely. Crisp cold rhubarb parfait with a light creamy coconut custard and topped off with the most mouth watering ginger ice cream. Each part individually splendid, but together, sheer perfection! Fabulous place, fabulous staff, fabulous food, certainly the best place I've ever eaten in the Borders. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Compared with where we had eaten the previous evening - as CRH would say FAB-U-LOUS. Great food, friendly service, accomadating staff (due to inclement weather / road closures our booking was happily changed a few hours before our arrival) and a warm room.

We enjoyed dinner here one Saturday evening. Lucky to get a window table to watch the river running by. The waiter was friendly and helpful. We had a relaxed meal - Gino seemed to be cooking everything on his own and made a great job of our pizza and pasta. My companion’s meat feast pizza was amazing! Very pleasant - we will be back.
