Fantastic food and great service.

A really lovely restaurant with beautiful interior decoration. The food was fantastic! Incredibly tasty and filling. Staff were kind and attentive.

I live in Glasgow and I'm happy to travel to Carlisle for this excellent restaurant. Been here many times and every time it's been a success.

We walked in hoping for a table and they had one spare. We loved the choice of food and the flavours were amazing. We loved our meal and the wine.

Booked a meal for 3 on the way up to Scotland. Blown away by how good the food and service was. Truely exceptional traditional Greek food. We did the Sharing platter and every dish was 10/10. Will be making it a regular stop for all further golf trips up to Scotland!!!

I had dinner here with a couple of work colleagues. As it was a Tuesday evening, we thought we wouldn’t need to book, it might not be busy. Of how wrong we were! We got lucky to get the last available table! Better book next time whichever day of the week it is. The food was amazing and staff was very attentive and professional. Highly recommend it.

This is a lovely, friendly family run business that we were pleased to give our custom to. Staff were friendly, organised and attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere was cosy and intimate, perfect for our date night! We removed stars for the food because as vegetarians the mains options were quite limited, only a veg moussaka and stuffed peppers 'yemista'. We enjoyed the moussaka but found the peppers not particularly special and quite bland, we felt that we could have cooked better ourselves at home. This left only one good veggie dish so we're unlikely to return. However we don't want to give too negative a review as we still think this is a charming little restaurant and we really enjoyed the coconut sponge 'revani'- so moist! So, can't particularly recommend Alexandro's if you're veggie but it you're a meat/fish eater, please give it a go!

Booked on the day,told extremly busy but still managed to squeeze us in so well done,ordered starters,mains and a bottle of wine,All very tasty and cooked to perfection,I had the kalamari,it was light and delicious,such a change from mass produced rubber rings,the taste and texture was lovely,my partner enjoyed her lamb as well,Staff were very attentive and a credit to the business.All in all a very nice relaxed meal and I will be coming back more often that’s for sure,well done all and especially “Stavs” who served us.

Gebeld om een tafel voor 2 aan het raam te reserveren. Omdat het vrijdagavond is zou het kunnen dat we dan even moesten wachten tot er een passende tafel vrij is. Bij aankomst moesten we inderdaad wachten. Een alternatief werd aangeboden maar dit was echt een beroerd tafeltje dus we kozen ervoor te wachten. Toen na een kwartier het bericht dat we geen kans hadden op een tafel aan het raam of iets vergelijkbaars. Zeg bij reserveren dan dat het door drukte waarschijnlijk niet zal lukken. Dan maar akkoord gegaan met een beroerd tafeltje pal naast een gezelschap van 10 luidruchtige gasten. Een keer of vijf geprobeerd aandacht te trekken om te bestellen of in ieder geval een drankje te krijgen, genegeerd door personeel, na 20 min besloten aan de overkant bij het Indiase restaurant te gaan eten. Drankjes afgerekend, geen enkele excuses over de gang van zaken. Jammer, regelmatig hier geweest of afgehaald, prima eten maar als je drukte niet aan kunt, verminder dan het aantal tafels.

Went at 1200 on a Saturday lunchtime and by 1230 was nearly full. Very popular restaurant. Food and service very good. Gluten free catered for.

Lunch on a dismal early February Friday, and the place was full. Clearly Alexandros is pulling off the difficult trick of doing something very right. We first called in on spec a couple of months ago, and although they had finished lunch service we were offered their shorter deli menu with gyros so delicious we decided it was worth the 140 mile round trip for the full menu. We both went for the days special starters; grilled and flavoursome tiger prawns marinaded on a fish bisque with fermented cauliflower and sourdough to mop up the sauce. A hint of aniseed running through, with balanced flavours and textures. My main, Xoirino Souvlaki, pork kebab marinaded in oregano and lemon with fresh vegetables expertly grilled to a light char, beautifully presented. The other main; Stifado, a classic herb scented beef casserole with rice, which somehow managed to be both rich and light. To finish, Greek yoghurt, rich and thick, neither sweet nor sharp topped with fresh fruit and a swirl of honey. Then an oh-so-heart-racingly good sketos coffee, Greek style dense enough to stand a spoon in. The staff are charming, gorgeous, witty and clearly care about what they are doing in a way that can only happen in a family-run restaurant. Great cooking and service from the heart.

Initially we thought the options for veggies were limited. We asked the waiter about the vegetarian mezzes, which we ordered. Good choice! A great selection of everything! We loved it all! A great way to try lots of different things. Highly recommended! Lovely atmosphere. Great food and service.

Went here as it was highly recommended by our hotel bar staff. The food was OK but did not blow us away, my wife had a Vodka and coke but the coke was flat and had to be changed. We was sat in what could only be described as a corridor and had staff rushing past us. The whole place seemed hurried and urgent, we even told one of the staff to smile.

During a work trip returning from Leeds to Edinburgh, we had the pleasure of visiting Alexandros Greek Restaurant in Carlisle. It was an unexpected delight that significantly enhanced our journey. The service here is impressively quick, something I greatly appreciated after a long day. But it wasn't just the speed that impressed me; the staff were incredibly attentive, going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The real star of the show, however, was the food. To say it was amazing would be an understatement; it was next tier in terms of flavour, authenticity, and presentation. Each dish we tried was a testament to the skill and passion of the chefs. Whether you're a local or just passing through Carlisle, Alexandros Greek Restaurant is a must-visit for an exceptional culinary experience. Five stars without a doubt!

we had a mint time. enjoyed three of their dips with pita but I'd guess all of the other ones are excellent, too. starters, quality halloumi in fruity company with a positively fluorescent chive oil, plus a mix of beans on a roundly, soundly spiced tomato ragout - delightful. strongly yellow-coloured retsina tasted fresh, top marks. where other greek restaurants struggle, alexandros excels: the chargrilled octopus, resting on giant couscous and a gently creamy tomato sauce, was tasty and soft, without so much as a hint of the much dreaded elastic resistance commonly encountered. testing a classic, their moussaka hit the spot just as well. homemade greek yoghurt with honey, fruit and walnuts - guess how that was. staff were attentive and lovely. 1860% recommend.

Poorly few hours after,not really a fan.

First time in Carlisle from NZ and hadn’t thought to book a restaurant. Liked the look of menu as many gluten free options (I’m a coeliac). Popped in on what was a very busy Friday night, they found us a table and made us feel very welcome. So many gluten free options and staff understood importance. Received complimentary bread including gluten free pita. Entree and mains were made with fresh ingredients and really tasty. Certainly enjoyed the cocktails as well. Very reasonably priced for what we had. Staff really pleasant and happy to be there. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Carlisle especially if a coeliac.

Visited this lovely little restaurant on the 23rd December and was lucky to get a table as they were so busy. I had the vegetarian moussaka and my husband had the keftedes with rice, all of which was absolutely delicious. The staff were lovely and friendly, we were made to feel like regular customers, which I'm sure we will become as I certainly want to go back and try some of the other delicious dishes on the menu. One of the nicest dining experiences I've had for a long time

Simply one of the best restaurants in Cumbria

Just returned from a lunch time visit here after an absolutely delicious meal. Had a starter of cheese in honey and can honestly say it was one the nicest things I have ever eaten. Our main courses of lamb kebab and a special of chicken were also delightful. We had a couple of glasses of wine, soft drinks followed by a coffee and some sort of cake to finish off the meal. We had lovely food in a lovely atmosphere, served by nice welcoming staff.

We passed by travelling from Edinburgh, I saw the name of the restaurant and the waybit was written called my attention, I told my husband to go back, we went in without any booking, they gave us a table for two and fromnthere a wonderful experience started.. I loved food and I can getball flavours going on in every dish I had.., I didn't know what to choose from the dessert menu so I asked one of the staff and didn't disappointed me 10 out of 10

A thoroughly enjoyable evening spent at Alexandros. A warm welcome from all of the staff who were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The food was incredible, it all tasted so fresh and the portion sizes were perfect. There’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of authentic dishes (the lamb moussaka is out of this world!) My only critique would be that there was a cold blast of air from outside each time the door was opened. It only serves as a testament to how popular the restaurant is that we felt this a lot through the night (and hey, the restaurant can’t control the weather!) Thank you so for such a beautiful dining experience, we’ll definitely be back to sample more of your delicious dishes!

The best Greek restaurant that I’ve been to in the UK, and better than a fair few that I’ve been too in Athens! The food was all delicious from the dips and bread, to the mains (we ordered the Kalamari Gemisto [pictured] and Lamb Kleftiko), to the Yianniotiko desert. The service was also great with all of the courses arriving in a good amount of time: promptly but not all on top of each other. In short it’s one to remember and if I’m ever near Carlisle again, I’ll certainly be going back. I could not recommend enough.

Friends took us here on Friday night and we were absolutely delighted with everything. We ordered Mezze for our table and every dish was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. I would definitely recommend going here and we’ll definitely be back when we’re next in Carlisle. I can see why our friends love it so much.

My wife (who has reservations about 'foreign food') and I spend a lovely evening at this great restaurant. The fillet steak on a bed of grilled veg + courgette chips (you really do have to try them) was eaten heartily by my good lady and I devoured the lamb shank. Both meals were cooked and served with perfection. Although I still found room for the Baklava. Big thanks to everyone, and I'm sure we'll be back.

Took my friend who had visited from Scotland to Alexandros for lunch. The meal was superb, and the waiter was really attentive. We really enjoyed the food, and the waiter was really polite, answering any questions that were asked about ingredients etc. The only downside...

My family have had a house on corfu for 20+ years, and this is as good as any meal I've eaten in Greece. Jay Rayner was quite right to be effusive in his review. Absolutely rammed, even on a Tuesday evening, so would advise booking.

Wow the food here is incredible, and the staff are sublime! Can’t recommend enough. Staying in Drybeck for some climbing and google brought this place to us for dinner, 5 stars all the way!!

We had truly authentic Greek food from family recipes, which were absolutely delicious, served by family members who really cared about customer service and ensuring diners enjoyed the experience, and particularly the food they were serving. Great atmosphere and the staff are amazing. The food was lovely but we got the dips and bread to share and there wasn't enough bread for the price of it. There were 6 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food .I haven't knocked any stars off because in no way was it just a 4. Just a couple of niggles regarding value for money. Definitely give it a try it was a nice experience

The food here is like a religious experience. It's the best Greek food outside Greece, I'm almost certain. MAKE SURE you order the dips and pitta! Trust me! Also the staff are so lovely and friendly. There's a reason this place is so busy. I feel so lucky to have a place like this in Carlisle!

One of my favorite restaurants ever, absolutely recommended! :) And they made it so easy for the whole table to share gluten free food, since pretty much every dish was gluten free.
