Al Forno in Kingston upon Thames

Genuinely one of the best Italian places I’ve ever eaten at. The food is always prepared with love, the customer service makes you feel like family and the vibe is always on point. The best!

Overall a really nice experience. Service was good and the atmosphere for a Monday night was buzzing with a good vibe. Portions are really good size and we had no complaints from out party of 9 - we all had starters and mains. There is multi storey parking nearby but be warned for large cars spaces and turning circles are tight. Nice food and good service will return!

Booked for valentines day and paid a deposit per head. There was advertisement about live music which sounded enticing. Firstly, when we got there, there was a queue with about 10 other people ahead of us waiting to be seated- im not sure why this was the case given that I could see multiple free tables inside and that everyone had a booking for this "valentines day special" so there shouldnt be any issue with lack of seating or a delay. Our booking was at 7:45 pm and we were still waiting outside in the cold to be seated at 8:15. I am really not sure why we had to wait nearly half an hour outside to be seated for a restuarant we had booked a table for??! When we arrived inside, there was no apologies for the wait or acknowledgement. We were sat on a rubbish table. Dont even get me started on the decor and atmosphere. My husband and I were so unimpressed that as soon as we sat down, we decided to just leave despite losing our deposit.

I would highly recommend Al forno if you are nearby. I am not local and ended up on this gorgeous restaurant after reading some excellent reviews and Al forno didn't disappoint. The food is delicious, hand made italian cuisine. Staff is very attentive and will provide an individualised and detailed service. I would definitely go back when I am next in Kingston. Al forno thank you very much for making my graduation day even better.

Excellent for gluten free options as pizza available as well as the pasta. Few seats with riverside views at the front too

Unfortunately there was only one thing on the menu I could eat because there's lots of things I can't eat but I enjoyed my salmon and my friend enjoyed her sea food pasta.

When I wasled in it was a very nice atmosphere.I ordered 2 sanpallagenro and I got 2 sprites.I then Had to wait over 45 minutes for 2 pizzas.The pizza was very filling. I then went to the bathroom amd there were people yelling in italian for 5 months straight and laughing in the bathroom. I realised it was two staff. I ordered desert and they forgot about my order so I has to remind them twice. I would not go back again.

Really authentic Italian restaurant, fabulous pizza and a varied menu. Service was exceptional. Shame it's not closer to home.

Such a fantastic evening at Al Forno last night. My friend and I have always enjoyed coming to Al Forno and were worried as the last few times, the food did not hit the same level of quality we would always find in their food. Last night changed that for us completely. Our pasta was absolutely delicious and the pizza garlic bread was a fabulous starter. I had the spaghetti carbonara and my friend had the Fregola al Frutti di mare and we both agreed it was the best pasta we had in a long time. To top it off, we had a lovely conversation with Pietro, one of the servers. He told us about his life coming to England and his dream of opening a restaurant which made for a great end to our evening. For those looking for a good meal and wonderful service, you should give Al Forno a shot!

The food was good but the service was shocking to say the least. I had booked a table for 7.30 but it 8.15 before we were given a table and it took forever between ordering and having our food served.

Had a lovely meal here last night. We were about to go to zizzi but spotted this place and thought we would give it a try. So glad we did! Amazing authentic home cooked Italian food served by Italian staff with real pride. Reasonable prices and very clean. Would 100% go back. The pics were taken after a few mouthfuls as it looked too nice and we were so hungry!

We love this restaurant and every time we have been it has been as good as the last. Very good service, fresh well presented food and good size portions. We would highly recommend.

Lovely evening with family at Al Forno last night. Great to see a local business thriving on a Saturday night. Gamberoni prawns were divine and we all had a variety of mains, sea food pasta, salmon, pizza and lasagne. Clean plates all around. House white wine was lovely and highly recommended. Will be back to sample more of the menu another time. Thank you!

The food was good but the service was terrible. I ordered 2 different pastas before the waitress “allowed me” to place the order since she insisted the pastas I was ordering weren’t good, she didn’t like them and wouldn’t recommend them. Having a staff member that not only says the food isn’t good but also forces her preferences on the customers is terrible for the restaurant’s imagine. Do not feel motivated to go back at all, which is a shame because we were very excited to try this place and make it our regular italian place in the area.

Excellent authentic pizza, dolci etc, highly recommended!

Had no been here for around 15 years, so decided to check it out again. The staff are very friendly. The garlic bread and cheese is way to garlicky for me, (and I love garlic bread) but that’s just personal preference. The pasta was unreal however. I had the spaghetti bolognese and it was one of the best I have had in quite some time. Pricing is fair. Place is clean and tidy.

If you don't want to be dissapointed make sure you visit this place🙂 im always in for my favourites - loving the burrata and garlic cheesy bread. The steak 😋 😍 Thank you Al Forno! A happy loyal customer..

Very nice atmosphere and vibe. We had dinner with no reservation and there was no issue to accommodate us. We had octopus, mussels, pizza margherita and pizza with friarielli sausage and nduja that I highly recommend as well the fabulous gelato. You can feel the Italian hospitality coming from the whole staff. On this topic I would like to thank our waiter Pietro that went extra miles for us. See you soon guys!

We had never been here before. I came here with the family and it takes you back to small bustiers or trattorias you’d find abroad. One part of the restaurant is like a conservatory of summer house , full of light, while the rest is like a Swiss ski chalet. We had beer, very chilled and Italian. We had pizzas which are over-baked and tasted fresh z as nr fabulous. Try the Diavoka or gung-ho with chicken. They will not disappoint.

5* in every department; fantastic warm and friendly staff. Best lasagna I have ever had. Just all round awesome. Probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Really superb.

Overpriced :( Do not recommend pizza here. Such a shame for Italian restaurant. Starters wasn’t good either. Service wish to be better, Kingston brunch is the worst brunch of Al Forno unfortunately, hope it will change :)

Really nice Italian almost on the banks of the Thames. You can just see the water through the other buildings. They’ve got an extended conservatory with makes the place quite big. Limited parking but yet place is tidy. It’s a bit of a trek from the station but not too far. Bad points? When skanky people smoke outside it comes in and spoils your meal. And like a lot of places they cheekly inflate the prices by adding on a service charge. We do have a minimum wage in UK service charge is just an excuse to reduce restaurants overhead.

I ordered online though deliveroo, escalope and this is what I received. Terrible presentation, the chicken in breadcrumbs looks recooked and old. I am 100% this is would not be served inside the restaurant, but because it was delivery with deliveroo then they send anything and anyhow. And if you call to tell them the issue they will wash their hands by saying you need to speak to deliveroo as if deliveroo cooked the food. I did not eat this, so unhappy i was so hungry and paid very expensive because AlForno restaurant is not cheap at all. And this is how I was served. Not happy at all

Came here on a Sunday evening without a booking and the staff were very accommodating, leading us straight to a table without any wait at all. The Pizza was Delightful, Strongly recommend the Quattro Formaggi Pizza and the Pepperoni Pizza which were absolutely delightful! There was scrambled egg throughout my girlfriend's carbonara and carbonara should not come out scrambled. She was unable to eat their dish due to this. The waiter did not ask why she left her dish. Overall a fair experience for 2/3. Do come to try out this fine authentic Italian establishment if you are ever in the Kingston area but do not order the carbonara.

I would seriously challenge anyone to produce a better Italian restaurant than this one! Service has ALWAYS been friendly and professional and the food is outstanding. My favourite restaurant south of the river by far!

I have been frequenting Al Forno for years now. Fabio and his team have never let me or any of my guests down. We usually come here to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, but sometimes during the day for business lunches, too. The food is always brilliant and the service is outstanding. Highly recommended authentic Italian eatery with amazing ice cream options during summer.

Used to go here years ago then had one poor meal. So pleased we decided to give it anothe chance.

What a great restaurant! We went there after a day at the Wimbledon tournament. The food is delicious! Everything we had, pizza, seafood, veal, rib eye, deserts, all were prepared beautifully and the taste was amazing. Also the staff had such a nice and positive energy. Unfortunately I don't live near the place, otherwise I would have found my go to place for delicious real Italian food. Next time I am in the London area, you know where to find me :-)

Fantastic Italian restaurant in Kingston. Much better food than any of the 'Italian' chains in and around Kingston, and not far off on price either. The atmosphere is going to be abit of a love it or hate it for alot of people. It's very warm and friendly, but also very loud and involved. If it's somebody's birthday — they will come out shouting Happy Birthday with multiple guitars. If that's your kind of thing then you'll love this place. If you prefer a quite dinner and to be largely left alone, then maybe not. I didn't sit outside, but I assume that's going to be a bit quieter, even when you factor in the cars and street noise. Food was fantastic throughout. The cheese bowl/crown with the risotto is a great idea because it adds an incredible cheese flavour to the risotto. The carbonara was superb too. Plenty of pancetta and good flavour. The desserts were to die for. We had the Pistachio Ice cream and the Chocolate Souffle. Individually they were phenomenal, but they worked even better together. The pistachio ice cream is mainly vanilla ice cream, but with a light pistachio crust, and a gooey pistachio core. If you like pistachio, you'll love this. It's a must try. Highly recommend!

Starters and dessert were absolutely delicious. Had salad for main and it wasn't nice. My husband had the risotto and it was very good. The starter and dessert definetly made up for it.

10/06/23 Had a lovely family meal here and the food was delicious! The bruschetta was the best I’ve ever tasted in the UK! Pizza dough was awesome and they were huge! My teenaged kids really enjoyed it too. Lovely atmosphere too. Highly recommend Al Forno!

Tasty pastas, tastier pizza, kind servers

I have tried both alfonos in Kingston and new Malden, but Kingston is the better one , for the service, the younger waitress was so friendly and lovely, but the other older lady was awful, or maybe she had a bad day , the atmosphere was ok .

The service was good, the food was nice, was given a table that turned out to be right next to the ice cream refrigerator where a member of staff had cusmters leaning over me choosing flavours whilst l was eating my meal. Also it was disappointing to have my pasta served to me in a bowl with two big chips out the sides. If l had guests at my house for a meal l would feel it very disrespectful to serve them food in an old chipped bowl, and we were thier guests.

Equal best pizza we've ever had with great Italian house wine and none of it overpriced. Chic decoration in the restaurant and nice atmosphere. We always try to use independent ts rather than chains as they tend to try a little harder too.

First time me and my wife have been to Al Forno food was very good staff polite definitely going again.

Upper middle of the road independent Italian with friendly staff that has been around for many years. The food is authentic and made with good quality ingredients, including the non-pizza options. Pizzas are stone baked and can be a little too charred on the bottom. Much better than that factory-produced tat at the big chains.

Ordered 23in pizza, yeah, was ok. Good beer. Nice atmosphere, decent service.

Nice looking restaurant, friendly staff. Serving fly infused balsamic. Whilst we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, we ordered drinks and a couple of bread baskets, I had butter with mine. However, my partner went with the oil and balsamic. After a couple of mouthfuls, she realised that the balsamic was loaded with extra protein at no extra charge. It wasn't a bargain by any stretch of the imagination. She had been chomping on fly laden bread. She discretely took the bottle up to the counter and explained the situation. The reaction from the staff member beggars belief. She said it happens sometimes. There was no apology and no recognition that this was indeed unacceptable. Before I went to pay the bill, she mentioned the problem, I went up to the counter and said, "You guys really need to check your balsamic bottles they are full of flies." The response was unremarkable. " Yes." I paid the £174 bill, including the service charge. No apology, no concern . As a 40-year veteran of the hospitality industry, this was not quite a first, but it was up there. Disengaged staff, no real sense of a floor manager, no check back on the food after delivery, and apparently little concern for contaminated consumables. Probably the easiest way out of this particular problem would be to just add the flies to the menu.
