AL-FAROOQS, Friendly & Comfortable atmosphere in this busy fast-food kebab shop, The consistency of customers walking in & out of this Place is my 1st sign to fresh food and salad and rotating and selling, which is a plus point for me, a food place like AlFarooqs which is busy, maintains a consistency in serving fresh and quality food rotating all the time. The prices are very reasonable, and the staff/team are very customer friendly.. We will driver miles for good food, We try all these new flashy & posh 'looking' restaurants and food outlets and we still end up back in ALFAROOQS. x

This place has great food but the doner gave me and my family diarrhoea, as well as a few other people who ordered the doner from here, I'm guessing this is because of the spices they put into the doner, so I complained and asked for them to make a better doner, but they ended up giving me the same thing, just without the chilli sauce..and I still had diarrhoea but a little less, I can tell the meat is cheap, probably that's why most people from there are getting diarrhoea. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING DONER FROM HERE

You knew what to expect from Al Farooqs and the always delivered but recently something has changed. After the refurbs the Chicken burgers has reduced in size, the taste not the same and the chips are no longer on point as they once were. Please go back to the old days. I'd rather pay a little more to fund the refurb!.

I have gone all over London from the cheapest places to the very top of fine dining and culinary experiences but nothing, I repeat, nothing can beat Alfies! One of the first halal kebab houses in London being open from the 1980s and till today dishing out the best kebabs, donners and cheese burgers in London! The brothers that run this place are second to none knowing every customer by their names and their families (as they have been about for so long). Always dishing out free items to people from a small gesture like a can of coke for a kid to sometimes giving whole meals free to regulars. This guys have actually understood how to run a succesful business. The queues here do not end till late night (1am-ish). I have yet to find a place that even comes close to their fried lamb donner in a pitta. The donner is juicy beyond imagination and is then fried on a grill with onions, peppers, chillis and their legendary chilli sauce. It is then put into a grilled pitta with whatever salad of your liking (salads include the whole bunch: cucumber, lettuce, carrot, gherkins, jalapenos, green chillis, mixed peppers, spanish onions, tomatos and so much more). All that for less than a fiver. You can eat alfies day in day out and not get sick of it as my family and pretty much all of Forest Gate has not since the last 30 years or so. Their tak-a-tak is an amazing creation. Chicken tikka on skewers first grilled on their barbecue style grill then put on their main grill which is then cut into small pieces and cooked with onions, chilli sauce, peppers, chillis and drizzled with lemon. This amazing dish is one of their most expensive item but is still a bargain for the taste and sheer joy it brings. You can eat it in a pitta or in a bun or in a naan (from their sister restaurant abu bakars across the road) or just plain with a fork! Their special cheeseburger is the bomb whilst their original fried chicken burger is enough to make me want to come everyday. I could literally go on all day about alfies and their qualities. A must try for all those wanting to try ultimate London street food.

I go at al farooq once every six months for emergency fast food when I can't be asked to look around for nicer food, meals are avr. £3-4.50. Including drink not the best cleaned place but that's a standard it seems with most asian places.

We used to live across the road from Al farooq in Leabridge Road many years ago and it was our "local" so I was pleased to see it was still going strong when we visited in December. The food was just as good as I remember and the portions are very generous. The staff were very accommodating with our order as we had fussy kids to feed so they were happy to change some of the ingredients in the kebab for us. It was Christmas day and they were just about the only place open but still busy and our order didn't take very long to arrive and we took it back to where we were staying and ate it for Christmas Lunch. Delicious! Will definitely go back next time we are in London.

I've only ever had takeout from here and my husband makes the collection of our regular order- 1/4lb meal. I'm confused by the two previous reviews, the chips from here are some of the best I've had, and I've had many! Sometimes I'll request chips alone because they're so good. Burger is great with stewed onions in, the meat itself is lovely and cooked well with a good chargrilled taste. Can't comment on anything else!

I recently took my friends here as i thought the food would be good, the doner was terrible my friends ended up being unwell the next day the chips are frequently reheated re-fried and then served to you, the shop it self has poor cleanliness, toilets are filth its like visiting third world country. staff never wash their hands after cleaning bins or tables and then serve food, I would avoid this shop you're better off going to best Turkish kebab house in hackney.

I have been a customer for Al-Farooqs for over 25 years and feel its time to give their verdict! They claim to be the 'First and Finest Kebab House in London' which is complete nonsense. Those who are from London will probably know the early kebab places were always around the Arab and Turkish communities in Central and North London. The hygiene level isn't great and the hygiene rating certificate doesn't seem to be seen anywhere in the restaurant. Their Doner Kebabs are awful and are made from the cheapest to cheapest meat available. Those of you whom are Kebab lovers will know straight away meat is poor quality. But they charge a premium for the Doner by adding loads of salad, fried onions and chilli source so the Doner has taste. They also claim to use home made chilli sauce but infact is just 'Cash and Carry' factory sauce. The fries are ok but they tend to reheat the fries if not sold within 15 mins which makes them taste awful. The grilled Chicker Burgers which are one of their specialities are ok but they all seem to charge different prices. Some works charge £3.00 and others £3.50 which is a joke. Occasionally the chicken will also be undercooked. All their customers are locals who will rave about their Doner and Chicken but those of you who enjoy their food and have eaten around London will know its just awful food. There aren't many other great places to eat in the Upton Lane area so its just best to stick going to Stratford Westfield for a decent Kebab. They have a few branches around East London in East Ham, Leyton and East Ham and they are all as awful as Upton Lane.
