Akropolis in Southend-on-Sea

Attended on a Sunday lunch time for our first visit. In brief:1. Nice environment.2. Large varied menu.3. No complaints about quality or quantity of food. In fact we all failed to clear our plates!3. Staff very friendly and customer focussed.Recommended. A place we will visit again.

After searching far and wide for the best Tiramisu in the Southend area, we came across Akropolis. The dessert was layered to perfection with a real blend of cream and liquor. It was firm but smooth on the mouth .I highly recommended giving it a try you won't be disappointed.

Ordered takeaway food that was delivered on time, it was plentiful, although plentiful is nothing without quality and quality was certainly what we got. Beautiful tasty food and we had enough left over to warm up for lunch the following day which made us doubly happy

Lovely food and lovely people at the Akropolis . My partner had not eaten at this restaurant so as a surprise I arranged a delivery . There was a bit of a delay (broken sat nav) but they apologised profusely via a phone call . This was more than made up for by the quality and quantity of our meal . We chose a mezze. I asked for a pescatarian version as I know the fish is outstanding . In fact all of the food was excellent . My partner can’t wait for the next time we eat at the Akropolis . Hopefully I can take him to restaurant which I think has a lovely atmosphere . If not , a repeat of tonight will be just as enjoyable . Thank you guys I can’t wait .

This one of my favourite restaurants. The food and staff excel in every way. It’s always a pleasure to go this restaurant with a cosy friendly, fabulous atmosphere. It’s been a family run business for 25+ years., in this climate that speaks volumes! I’m looking forward to our takeaway meals, because of all the CoVid19 restrictions! Thank you to all concerned!

Starting with the good part, the food was delicious. But then, it always has been in this restaurant. Meze was good, hot and plentiful (and not rushed). Dover Sole was delicious and huge, so great value for money there. However, the whole experience was spoilt by the restaurants lack of social distancing awareness. When we first arrived the tables either side of us were empty. But as the night went on (this was during the Eat Out to Help Out month) more and more people just turned up on the off-chance and the restaurant filled the tables. Every single table had someone sat at it - we were already halfway through our meal so we couldn't leave - if it had been like that at the start we wouldn't have gone in. If i'd lent back, I could have touched the person on the table behind me with the back of my head. It's a very small cramped restaurant which never used to be a problem, it actually used to add to the atmosphere. But in the current Covid situation and with waiters without masks, leaning on your shoulders to serve plates or clear away empties, it's actually a serious concern.

Big portions and delicious food. They don’t have the kids menu, but we ordered some halloumi and broccoli for our little one and the portions appeared huge. Had to finish his too. Service was good especially our waiter Bogdan. He was very polite, great menu knowledge. Was patient with us as we could5 decide what wine and beer to order. Wonderful young man. Definitely have to go there when your hungry.

We give this restaurant second chance, but we was disappointed again. Food was not up to the standards at all. We had meet which didn’t smell nice, the fish was overcooked and dry, the rice was totally plain. Service was bad, not organised at all. One of the servers was rude to us when we was asking him for something form the menu. We definitely not gonna visit this restaurant again!

Really good food great portions and speedy service. Thank you very much. At first we didn't get dessert but the driver sorted our order really well.

The food was lovely and we enjoyed it however we felt a bit rushed, think they were more focused on turning around the tables than giving us an enjoyable experience. However we would still go back just maybe on a quieter night

Our first meal out since lockdown. and it was awesome!!!!We have been to Akropolis restaurant before always good quality food/ service and usually fully booked as quite a small restaurant. So we thought we would try it again tonight knowing it wouldn’t be as busy. Our waiter, Bogdan was very attentive and really looked after us. The food was cooked fresh and such good quality. The restaurant was very quiet although the kitchen seemed busy with takeouts. This is the best opportunity to have a relaxing meal at this lovely restaurant with out the hustle and bustle of other customer.

We were a group of seven family and friends and visited Acropolis on Sunday 1st. March 2020. We had been before, so knew what to expect. The menu selection was quite extensive, which made it difficult to choose, as we like most dishes! Not complaining though, as we try to have different food each time! We're quite adventurous! The starters were large and delicious, as were the mains. We were all too full up to order desserts, unfortunately and some of our party had to have some of theirs boxed up! The service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. We shall be visiting again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Acropolis.

Brilliant not to mention the choice of an endless menu. I’m fussy and I had so many choices. Lovely and cosy and good customer service. Will definitely return.

Brilliant food - huge selection!Got the full Greek menu must haves via ‘The Akropolis Meze’ - definitely our recommendation for parties of two or more! This menu also prolonged the meal which made the dinner more of an experience (which we loved). Staff very attentive. Only downside was the space, but this was likely due to it being Valentine’s Day; we will return to see.

After discovering a love of Greek food from a recent holiday, we decided to try out this restaurant. It was fairly quiet for a Saturday night but expected as just one week after Christmas. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was amazing particularly the lamb cutlets and chicken Souvlaki. I also throughout enjoyed the baklava for dessert. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere with traditional Greek music playing. A must for Greek food lovers. It is now our go to Greek restaurant.

Visited this restaurant prior to attending Robin Hood and his Merry Men (great show and very funny)on Saturday 04/01/20, very disappointing following researching the reviews.Stuffed mushroom starters not particularly tasty and humous starter was completely tasteless. Salad starter was OK.Granddaughters both had steaks which were acceptable, my wife and I had the kleftiko with rice which was absolutely tasteless and the rice was very soggy (possibly not freshly cooked).Can only surmise that it gets busy because of it's close proximity to the Cliffs Pavilion. Would not make a return visit.

First visit here with a couple of friends. Restaurant was busy considering it was a Sunday evening. Greeted by a lovely waitress who took our drinks order. We then ordered our food. We went for the set menu of meze.. The dishes that came out were lovely. Good portion sizes and well worth the money .. By the time we had finished eating we was absolutely stuffed! We even took some meat and rice home with us for lunch the next day as it was too nice to leave and get wasted.. Service was spot on , staff attentive and very pleasant.. would definitely recommend to family and friends and we will be returning soon too ..

Great authentic Greek food and really good service. We would go back. We ate the Akropolis Meze which started with dips, then appetizers, then amazing lamb and beef stew with additional kebabs and finished with dessert. Yum.

My husband and I visited here on Friday 9th November before seeing a show at the Cliffs Pavilion. I originally made a booking for 6 but the traffic was bad so I phoned and rearranged for 6.30 and they changed the booking no problem. The place was fairly full but are order was taken quickly and our food arrived promptly. I ate the moussaka and my husband had the lamb cutlets. Both dishes were very tasty. We were in and out of the restaurant within an hour. Highly recommend.

Very pleasantly surprised the quality of food was amazing good size portions staff are so helpful. Very reasonably priced Will definitely visit again

Had a great meal here with my partner and two toddlers. Food was delicious and staff were lovely! Thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend!

Went as a large family group for a birthday.. the restaurant is smaller than it looks from their website but it has a lovely atmosphere.

Restaurant is small so tables are crammed in. Took our large group order in small family orders. One family had their food before we’d even ordered. Kids’s starter came out ten minutes after their main meal. Ordered chips with a meal and it came with rice. Son had finished his meal well before I got mine. Chicken was swamped in sauce which is never a good sign and the sauce was totally bland. Charged us adult price for the kids’ meals.

First visit there and they have set a high standard for my next visit .Me and my girlfriend both had the Kleftiko feast for a very reasonable £21 pounds,this included 3 dips with hot pitta bread followed by the Kleftiko ( lamb falling off the bone) accompanied by a bed or rice ,roast potatoes and a bowl of Greek salad all absolutely delicious and a final course of Greek desserts and frsh fruit .Will be back soon.

I would highly recommend this restaurant. From the large portions to the helpful and friendly staff to the excellent food. Not surprisingly we keep going back. It was the first restaurant we dined in when we moved in and it never disappoints.

Evening at this restaurant tonight was very disappointing, my other half ordered calamari...unfortunately it was limp and chewy to the point it was difficult to eat, waitress did ask if we wanted it recooked which didn't seem her appealing after spending the last 10 minutes 'chewing same piece, therefore we ordered a prawn coctail, this was put on table with no offer of cutlery which had been cleared away with the rubber calamari...

I felt sorry for the chef and staff. The service was slow. gave up after 35minuet wait for the main course. canceled meal and asked for the bill paid £48.50. the place was rammed with parties and 3 staff were not enough

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely meal at the Akropolis. Huge portions with friendly and relaxed service. House wine very good. A real gem of a place!

Good value and generous portions. Food was ok but nothing to rave about. Service was ok but could see the different level of friendliness towards other customers and us. I was with a friend (2 females) - we weren't rude or rowdy but didn't feel the warmth from the staff when they served us or got the bill.

Well what a lovely surprise! We, being me and the other ‘alf, thought we’d try somewhere new rather than one of our tried and tested favourites. I don’t know about you but its always a bit of a risk trying out a new venue and gambling your hard earned wonga on an unknown restaurant. After all, we’ve all been to that crap restaurant where they list have bought lots of five star reviews on the dark web.

First time we visited before a show at the Cliffs. 2 mins walk away

Telephoned the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday evening and was sat eating the delicious starter at 7pm as requested. The service was attentive and both waitresses delightful. The food was traditional, delicious and reasonably priced. We now live locally and the Akropolis being a short walking distance from home, will certainly become a regular haunt. Just one minor criticism, that other diners may in fact applaud. Our portion sizes were rather large and dominated by the meat. Maybe, some female guests like my fiancé, would prefer her 'man-size' dish to be smaller, akin to a less is more perspective.

A very pleasant way to spend an evening eating traditional Greek cuisine with music bringing back thoughts of holidays spent in this marvellous country. Good service with well cooked and presented food. Varied menu and the Kleftico tasted superb.

Took my parents for their birthdays because they love it. I wasn’t prepared to like it much as we have different restaurant expectations but I loved everything about it.

My partner and I visited this restaurant before going to see a band at the cliffs pavillion. Even at 5.30 PM the place was packed which we always take as a good sign. The staff were very friendly and attentive, taking out coats and hanging them up for us. The decor is reminiscent of Greece and nicely done. The menu is standard Greek fayre. I had the vine leaves which are my favourite Greek starter and they were delicious. The stifado for main course was equally tasty and very authentic. We had a bottle of house red which was reasonably priced and good for the money. Service was quick - in fact we asked for our mains to be held back for 10 minutes because we were still full from our starters! Overall this place made me fondly remember past holidays in Greece and for me that is a good sign. Would recommend and we will come back if we visit southend again.

Had a lovely meal, halumi for starter with some pork lion meet followed by pork skewers on a bed of rice, my partner opted for stuffed mushrooms which were equally delicious followed by lamb, meals were well presented and very tasy, the staff were very attentive and helpful, explaining menu when asked, we will definitely return

We found this place because it was close to our hotel, and we are so glad we did. Friendly staff, wonderful food and lovely atmosphere. Take care ordering as the meals are large - we're so glad we took the waitresses advice and reduced our initial menu selection.

A group of 12 of us visited the Akropolis the staff and food was great. There were many dietary requirements and these were very well catered for. We are visiting in March again.

Visited with my girlfriend on Saturday night, it was very quiet when we arrived, but by the time we left the restaurant was full. The food was great, the portion sizes are really big and at reasonable prices. There is a lot of variety on the menu

Absolutely love the food and staff at the Akropolis. Always a warm welcome from the lovely staff, who are friendly, attentive and very helpful. The portion sizes I find are quite generous but the food is always delicious, full of flavour and there is a great range. (side note for any lamb lovers - the Kleftico is amazing!)

Being a fan of Greece and Greek food I'm not sure why we hadn't tried this place sooner. The restaurant is a bit out of the way and not near much else. Inside it is a bit dated and old school. The service was ok but not exactly slick. The food itself was all a bit tasteless. We had the Meze meal, dips a plenty but none stood out, Houmous probably the least tasty I've had. Fried calamari, whitebait and fish balls were also not great. The whitebait were dry and tasteless, no lemon provided even, Calamari were chewy. The mains were a little better, the Kleftico was nice, lots of flavour. Beef Stifado also nice although lacked onions. The grilled meat skewers chicken and pork were ok but once again lacked any depth of flavour. Wouldn't be in a rush to go back.

Visited with my husband on a Sunday lunchtime, and was wowed, the waitress was exceptional, explaining all dishes, as we opted for the meze, and we weren't disappointed great cold selection, eg., humous, taramasalta, beetroot, pot salad, etc, etc then a few hot starters, then loads of main dishes, and a fruit platter, for dessert, we also had 2 bottles of greek wine, everything was hot and delicious, and the service was impeccable, had a really lovely lunch, but the food was so plentiful, we couldn't eat it all, so we were offered a doggy bag to take home, and ended up with 4 takeaway boxes

Many enjoyable meals here - filo pastry spinach & feta starters, kleftiko, stifado all very good. Sea bass and prawns with spinach, very reasonable price and superfresh. Jolly atmosphere, very welcoming staff. Sometimes a slight mix up. Much better value than many local mid-priced restaurants.

We've visited Akropolis a few times now and have not had one bad meal, nor walked out of the place hungry. The portions are generous, fresh and tasty. The staff are always friendly and un-intrusive. Even yesterday (10th Jan) the lovely waitress let us into the restaurant 10 minutes before they opened because it was cold and raining out. Highly recommend to Lamb Kleftico. Just yum!

Excellent meal, good value and friendly service. Being situated near a theatre the staff obviously know when you are having a pre-show dinner and are very accommodating. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was the coffee. I am a big fan of Greek/Cyprus coffee, but don't bother ordering it here!

Excellent Food in this really friendly restaurant. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Food and service were very good, but very busy for 6pm, which meant it was very noisy, as tables are quite close together, plus the music was a bit too loud (speaker was close to us) and we had great difficulty hearing our own conversation (only 4 of us). Good thing we weren't planning on spending longer there, as we were going on to the Cliffs for a show. Probably better to visit on another evening rather than a Saturday.

Just turned up before a show at the Cliff''s Pavilion and passed this restaurant on the way. It looked inviting so we went in. Very traditionally decorated and tables nicely set. We shared a prawn starter and had seabass with spinach and saute potatoes for main course. Ample portions and extremely well cooked. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The menu is extensive too - something for everyone. Good wine selection. The waiting staff are polite and efficient and tips are at the customers' discretion.

6 of us visited after pre-booking on a very busy saturday night. Greek Meze is a perfect solution for a group of diners who want to drink and chat as the food just keeps on coming! There were 4 waitresses working hard to keep everyone's food and drink flowing.

Went here for a family gathering on Sunday afternoon just gone. I thought it was absolutely appalling service, we were there an hour before anyone took the order for the starters and almost 2 hours by the time they had been bought out.

Visited with my wife prior to a show at the cliffs, the staff were warm and welcoming, managing to squeeze us in.

Looking from the outside this Greek restaurant does not look much, but the food is great and the Mythos beer taste as good as if you were in Greece.

We have visited this restaurant on two occasions and found it to be really good.

5 of us had meze last night. Can’t say nothing bad about the restaurant or the food. But there is one thing I didn’t like and that is the rubbish in the streets as you walk in or out. SAYING THAT ITS NOT THERE FAULT. I just feel that the people in the Area don’t care how they live. Dirty used nappies all over the road and path is not what anyone wants to see. The area is known for being run down. Shame on the people that live there and shame on the council for letting it get as bad.

Food was tasty, but over cooked and not well seasoned. Worst though were the staff. If you have the attitude of not wanting me to be in your restaurant, then I don’t want to be in your restaurant

Nice evening here albeit not to busy..All your usual greek dishes cooked by the only greek person in the restaurant...Which was a bit of a let down..not that we were not served well..Its just when in Greece....The other let down was the singer they introduced later in the night making way to the traditional music being played..What a complete waste of time he was..Shame really because the food was of quite a good quality..

Great authentic Greek food, I used to adore that tzatiki. Really generous portion sizes, good variety for vegetarians and a really good atmosphere!

Interesting and pleasant dinner on a rainy ☔ evening. Not very busy for a Friday. Comprehensive menu. Prawns on rice with a tasty sauce. Vegetarian moussaka was somewhat mushy. Staff helpful friendly & Competent. Live music from singing guitarist set at just the right volume and pleasant selection of songs. First visit for too many years; improved since 1980s. I'm surprised another reviewer thought it was once a laundry but now a Greek restaurant as my memory of it being one goes back over 40 years.

Ordered Mezze. All a bit underwhelming apart from the lamb which was lovely. It’s only £21 ahead so can’t expect too much but left feeling,not ripped off, just disappointed. Too cramped as well, table next to us was just an inch away, a bit close for my liking.

Visited prior to an evening at the Cliffs - both my friend and I were very impressed with our food, the beef stifado was gorgeous. Nice baklava for dessert. Prices very reasonable too. Staff friendly and attentive and it was nice to be able to see the food being cooked in the kitchen. Will definitely go back if I am in the area again.

My wife and I visited the Akropolis tonight for our 34th wedding Anniversary, the waitresses were very nice and welcoming, offered to take our coats and showed us to our table, we ordered the Meze for 2, now the food was lovely and plentiful, we could not eat it all, they put the meat we left in a box to take home for our dog.

This was the first time we had visited Akropolis. We had booked for a meal before a show at the Cliffs Pavilion so we were eating early. We were shown to our table straight away and provided with menus. Although the restaurant was busy we didn't have to wait long before our order was taken. Our drinks arrived quickly - a glass of house red each. The wine was pleasant and reasonably priced. We didn't have to wait long for our starters - keftedes and kalamari. Both were very enjoyable and disappeared swiftly. Our plates were cleared in good time and mains arrived shortly after. Both the stiffado and souvlakia were delicious. The staff were friendly and the service good. We plan to visit again soon.

For years this was an ironing and laundry shop, but it is pleasing to see this now is a Greek restaurant, there are not too many in the area. The food was fine and service efficient. I would go back. I think the waitress was too busy - it would have helped if she had some additional help - serving about 20 covers seemed too much. A nice place though

OMG 15 of us attended Danni's birthday party in Akropolis. The food was very disappointing and the bill was ridiculously overpriced! 7 of us sent the food back. Don't touch the steak, chicken and sword fish. The steak was really fatty, the chicken was swimming in sauce and the sword fish was really dry. The best thing about the evening was the company. None of us would ever set foot in the place again. We all came out and got a kebab and cheese on toast! They wouldn't separate the bill and wanted to put everyone's on one tab instead of us all buying our drinks individually up at the bar!

What a fantastic hidden Gem! Its not that easy to find Greek restaurants anyway but this little place does a great job at providing a great night, with a great atmosphere and even greater food! Staff were all fabulously friendly and welcoming. Prices are pretty standard and its not overly large which makes it great for a more intimate meal. Its also a great location for a pre-show meal as it is a stones throw from the cliffs pavilion. A must visit if you love Greek food. I will definitely be visiting again!

I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is beautiful and the staff are lovely. When i have visited on the weekend there has been a singer playing a guitar which really sets the atmosphere, it's a lovley little touch.

What can I say.? Simply a great night out..food was plentiful and high quality Mediterranean food, tables a little cramped for space but that added to a great atmosphere as did the guitarist/singer..we had a good sing along session, a bit more expensive than I normally pay..£85 for two with a couple of bottles of wine, which by the way was also very good..i will definately be returning here...5* ALL THE way!

After 40 years in the Catering Industry I was disgusted by the attitude of the staff and management and the quality of the food was not great. I have lived in Southend for 20 years and this was my first visit electing to take my father of 84 on his annual visit.We were 15 minutes late arriving due to traffic out of London on my way home from work. I called and advised the restaurant and was reassured that this was not a problem.We ordered our food! My wife and father chose the lamb shank as the main course and the starters were the normal mix of Greek starters nothing special!We waited and waited!As a diabetic I asked if we could have some olives and bread and was told by the waitress that, "You should have ordered it from the menu".My wife challenged the waitress and was fuming, I diffused the situation and said the perhaps her understanding of English was not great!WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT THEN!!!!!!!It took some 40 minutes to receive our main course after the starter and eventually bread and olives.My Steak Diane was tasteless no alcohol under cooked mushrooms. My wife's Lamb shank was so salty it was inedible but my fathers was fine, I tasted them both!The manager obviously knew we were not happy as he had tried to speak to me prior to the main course arriving and I advised I would talk to him at the end of the meal.Needless to say the meals were not eaten and we advised the manger of the salty Lamb Shank who immediately said he would get us another. My wife by this time was furious and she decided two minutes later that she did not want it!I advised the manager who stated, " You can have a 'take away' and I will charge you for the meal".We decided to leave and my father paid the £104 bill. We left the take away at the table.We noticed that other people received better service and were clearly regulars!!!!My wife is Trinidadian and has never been treated like this in the 23 years she has been in the UK.DON'T GO

Partner and I went for dinner. Nice venue, friendly service. Entrees and mains - all excellent. The slow cooked shank was a standout. This is an excellent Greek restaurant serving honest food. Limited wine list but what's on offer is reasonable. Will do again.

First time here.Had a very good meal. The T bone is excellent as is the Salmon.Typical Greek food, well prepared and properly cooked, very tasty.Service was very good and the venue nice and clean.I liked the fact that you can see into the kitchen and watch the chefs prepare your food, it looked very hygienic.Would definitely go again, it is good value too.The only draw back is Parking is a real pain, but this is not the restaurants fault.Well worth a visit folks.

This was our first visit, and the staff were very attentive. Excellent food in generous portions. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, Greek blue decor and spotless napiery!

I last went to this restaurant when it was Candles Inn and enjoyed a lot. Four of us went on a Sunday afternoon were the only ones there in the 2.5 hrs we spent in the restaurant. The service throughout was very good although with only 4 people in the restaurant you would expect it to be. We all had the Meze which we all thought was very good value. Not all the dishes were to everyone's taste but because of the assortment it was more than enough to satisfy all! I think in busy times the restaurant could be very noisy as it is quite narrow with a lot of chairs and tables. All the food was acceptable but the Stifado and Kleftiko were particularly good. We would consider going back at sometime.

We always have the Mezes and it's always good! Been here lots of time and the staff are always attentive.

This was our first time to the Akropolis and we really enjoyed it. We all had The Akropolis Meze which is potions of starters, then fish dishes etc 12 courses!!!so much food which was great four adults eating and still the food kept coming. Lovely place will return soon.

A very good variety of Greek foods from starters to desserts. Portions are plentiful and staff is very friendly. Can be very busy especially pre-theatre so pre-booking recommended

Came here with my partner and children. Lovely food, good service only thing I could complain about was my son wanted the swordfish but we were told it wasn't available until the weekend they don't serve it on week days but menu didn't state this. Other than that was a lovely visit and we will definitely go back.

We went before a show at The Cliffs. The food was superb and the service just as good. Great variety of dishes to choose from and all four of us found our (different) meals tasty. It's a small restaurant with a lot of tables so I imagine it would feel quite cramped if full. We went at 5pm and there was only one other table occupied so it wasn't a problem for us.

Has a brilliant meal with my mum and sister before a show at the cliffs. Could not fault it at all we had a meze to share and there was sooo much food it was fantastic. Great atmosphere and staff. Even got them to save me a doggy bag for collection after the show. Would highly recommend

I visited this restaurant for a meal with the girls, I chose the Meze, a variety of Greek foods to sample from starters through to desserts, the choice was plentiful and very good value for money, you need to give this a try, superb

Nice place to get a lot of food on your plate! Decent food, great service and even live music. Not sure how 'authentic' it is but I would go back as the food was hearty.

The food is excellent and plenty of it the HALLOUMI AND LOUNTZA and KLEFTIKO are highly recommended and the Tiramisu is out of this world and would feed two.The only drawbacks are that you are packed in like sardines and consequently it makes it rather noisey

Me and my husband celebrated our anniversary this month and decided on trying the meze. It was worth every penny the food kept coming out. I was brave and tried dishes I never would of usually tried I really enjoyed it. The only slight disappointment was the baklava Hubbie was looking forward to it all day we think it had been frozen or refrigerated. But we will definitely be back.

Came spare of the moment and I couldn't fault the service or food. The food was amazing and very ample and good value for money for what you get. I'll remember not to eat so much of the starters next time! I felt comfortable and happy. We did visit on a Thursday evening though. Parking is difficult but that is my only downside thought. It is very small so can imagine on a busy night it is hard to hear yourself speak especially with the man singing and everyone talking.....

We booked a table for two for a pre theatre meal . After reading some of the recent reviews we were a bit unsure of what to expect. We need not have worried. We received a warm welcome, the place is clean and tidy and we did not find the tables too close together. The wine was reasonably priced as is the food. The portions are good and both our main courses were excellent. The staff were very attentive and just have to mention, the toilets were the cleanest I have seen in a restaurant for a long time. Don't be put off by negative reviews, try it yourself. You may be as pleased as we were. We will definitely be back.

Left till late to book BUT got in and had a superb meal before going to the theatre. Highly recommended.

I will not bother visiting this restaurant ahainbthey have become far too greedy jam packing the room with tables and customers with no breathing space inbetweenHad table booked for 8.30 upon arrival toldctable not ready and that we needed to wait, when we asked where was told to stand by the door! Right on top of people trying to enjoy there meal. It was very awkward with people coming in andvput for smoking and one of our party had to keep stepping outside in cold due to lack of space. 20 mins later still no yable and no update or offer of a drink etc...we enquired and were told tgey were running behind and would be as quick as they could this was notbin a particularly apologetic manner. Decided to leave and found a table at padrinos which was great and much more welcoming...If you decide to go here on a busy night prepare to be packed in and have a wait!

Booked for Mother's Day , luckily they had availability, really difficult to find parking outside restaurant which will hinder trade , not knowing the location we did find parking in car park approx 6 mins away (if they mentioned on website would be really helpful) , dropped mother and husband of while my son and I found parking , 15 mins later we arrived and they had not been offered drinks while they are waitng , on our arrival they asked are we ready to order before asking if we would like a drink , it is a very small restaurant with the ambiance of a taverna , and if there were guests on the next table would feel uncomfortable , but fortunately there was not , ordered drinks then food , very quick quick service , ordered whitebate , scallops, meat balls , huge portions for a starter , main , fillet , chicken, lamb , beautiful , but unfortunately could not finish lamb , was offered doggy bag,which we accepted , only downside to the whole visit was the lack of service to find a waiter/ waitress after meal to attend to us , as we were looking to order another suprise for our mother , but gave up when when all the staff where nowhere to be seen ' 4 people £150 , not bad
