Akbars in Glasgow City

I have been to Akbars a number of times and it never disappoints. Lovely staff. The family naan is a showstopper - definitely order it if you are in a group. A lot of choice on the menu, I’ve never been disappointed with anything I ordered. I usually eat too much here….so tasty, it’s hard to stop. Quite a big restaurant and it is always busy - that tells you everything.

My last visit at Akbars was very good. I served by a waitress her name was Morgan. She explained the menu very nicely and took the order perfectly. And after 15 she brings the food on the table which was mouthwatering and tempting. We ordered lamb chops and seekh kebab ambali with Redchilli dip. When we finished, she gave us warm wipes to clean our hands . Amazing experience we had with amazing service by her. Thanks again for her😇

Service was poor but biggest issue was felt like I was dining in a poorly managed kindergarten. Children were running up and down the restaurant, screaming and no parents dealing with it. Worst family were clearly related to owners as they came in, ordered one dessert between family and proceeded to use the restaurant as personal playground. Won't be back despite food being OK. Whole experience was ruined.

First time at this place, I was not at all impressed. The table setting has a cheap paper napkin, it dissolved when used. I dropped my fork and it was put back on my table to use. The food was average. The starter, chicken pakora was lovely, but 3.5 pieces is more what I would expect in a 2 for 1 lunch deal. I had a chicken bhoona type dish. I say that because that’s what they told me it was, but it was bright red. The chicken pieces were not tikka, they were tiny pieces. Are they using processed chicken blocks?? It was chewy, overcooked, dry. I left most. The rice was sparse and lukewarm. The naan on a stick was cute, but it went cold and hard before the meal was done. Lastly, I wanted to leave a tip and asked for change of £20. A ten and two fives. £5 was 10% and the girl came back with a wry smile and two tens. The stood while and pretty much pressured me into leaving £10. All in all a pretty terrible meal, I’ll not be back. The Shish Mahal makes this place look like a cheap kebab shop.

Recommended by our Indian driver to go for dinner. Our waiter Hamayum was amazing. The food was the best Indian cuisine I have ever had, The Naan was unbelievable. Comes on an apparatus and hangs. It tastes like pizza dough from a special oven. The sauces are delicious. I am still dreaming about the meal wanting to go back.

Food was just ok. A few dishes were nice and some not so good baring in mind they managed to mess up a few of the items which they did rectify. However at the end of the meal when our waiter asked was everything ok to which I replied some dishes were good and some not so good. Instead of asking for feedback he just sampled and replied that’s great and started clearing our table. Didn’t really get the chance to give my feedback to why I thought this, however I know for the near future and wouldn’t be back in a hurry

Amazing food. I had dinner at akbars restaurent , in glasgow . Its quiet big place , and always crowded, people from many countries comes here . Arab , indian, pakistani and also Europeans. In the manu you will find plenty of choices , family Nan is unique . Veg non veg , mango lassi is awesome. Service , whole staff is very very polite . I will definitely will visit again .

The food is okayish. The behaviour of the waiters was annoying and they were reluctant in serving the food.

Akbars is absolutely incredible!!! Came here for a late dinner (arrived around 9pm) and managed to get a table. Andy a very friendly waiter greeted us and took us to the table. Really impressed with the staff. SAAD and ANDY took really good care of us throughout the night. They were really accommodating and fun to chat to. Polite and excellent customer service overall. Ordered paneer masala and requested extra garlic and chilli which they certainly delivered on! Yum yum. Got the chicken karahi which was also very tasty. The egg rice is really good quality and I could eat that just on its own. The chef bring the food out to you which is a really cool touch to the dining experience. Chilli and coriander Naan is HUGE and it hangs from a stand. Saad packed the food up into takeaway boxes no bother as we couldn’t finish it all, portions are plentiful. Atmosphere is nice and chill. They understood our requests perfectly - SPICY AND LOTS OF GARLIC. Overall, great food and great customer service. I’ll be going back very soon! Andy and Saad were very helpful. OK but not great. Staff were good and engaging but my overwhelming emotion was watered down and greasy. Tried chicken livers to start which were cooked really well and very tasty on a bed of sizzling onions. Chutney and raita accompaniment were very watery which was a shame. Lamb dish was nicely cooked and spicy as requested but the egg rice was swimming in oil. Spoiled the whole dish as the curry had a decent amount of oil too. Chapatis were good and there was plenty of food but couldn’t finish it due to the oil. Not sure serving the curry in the battered old frying pan it was cooked in was a great idea either. Overall I wish I had walked the additional block to get to Mr Singh where I intended to eat. Looked at their menu today and it looks great.

Went for a family meal, starters were nice (we had a mixture of seekh kebab, chicken tikka, lamb chops and masala fish) however the mains were v disappointing. I went for butter chicken which was so bland and devoid of any flavour. Some of the soft drinks that had been served were noticed to be our of date. Desi tea at the end of the meal was also poor.

If you have any special food requirements or allergies, do NOT eat here. I ordered a vegetable achari Balti this evening, and about a quarter of the way through it discovered it had chicken in it. I have been a conscientious vegetarian for 51 years, and was truly disgusted to have been given meat to eat. The waiter said he would get the manager, but then came back to say they would provide another vegetable achari balti. No appearance from the manager. I felt a bit sorry for the waiter. I picked a bit at the replacement balti, but worried what was really in it. Horrible meal, and they even charged for it. I was with friends so didn’t want to make a scene. But I will never go back. I have eaten here twice before, and the food seemed nice then, but this evening was the most disgusting meal I have ever been served at a restaurant.

Fantastic team effort by all at Akbars. They certainly had a task and a half keeping all 40 of our office team fed and watered! Post pandemic it was great to get the team out to celebrate the festive period. Food was delicious, service attentive and all service with a smile. Thank you!

I thought it was very poor, service is not the best and food has far too much oil. Not sure why they give you a dessert menu and then when your ready tell you they dont do half of it anymore! Come here quite often and never had a bad meal the chops are beautiful cooked and delicious and the curry’s are out of this world and also you can have a 3 course meal for 2 ppl and it costs £65 so really fantastic value...

Went here as taking part in eat out scheme. Service has always been horrendous but not as bad as this. Hour and a half wait for starter and another hour wait for main. Our waitress was lovely and she kept apologising. The manager in this place is so rude and clearly doesn’t know how to run a business.

Been to Akbar's so so many times always on point with food, service and prices. Can not fault them until last night.Although the food was nice once it finally arrived, which was well over an hour,the curry portions were smaller than we have had previously. Whilst we were waiting, at the same time other customers that came after us were being served with there food.Therr was no sauce provided for the starters which we had to ask for, when asked for water which didn't arrive at all, asked for drinks which we had to wait for almost 25min. When the main meal did finally arrive they bought out the king nan all cut up into pieces in a plastic worn out basket. Not the way it should have been on a stand. All in all extremely disappointed with the complete experience last night. Such a shame as they have always been bang on with everything previous times we've been. Probably give it another chance, but this time I'll be on the case, not going to give my hard earned money up for less than what should be standard. Took my 2 friends who have never been before and I had been bigging it up, and they were not impressed at all.

We had an excellent meal here last evening. Tables were more than the required distance apart and our lovely waitress wore a visor for our safety. Pre starters were pickles and pompadoms. The starters were a mixture of mixed veg pakora, kebabs stuffed with cheese, paneer and a prawn puree. Cannot fault these dishes. Main courses were lamb on bone and mixed meats with garlic nan for a family of four. Delicious does not do these dishes justice as they were just brilliant. We all enjoyed food and were really happy with the restaurants safety measures in regard to Covid.

The food was top notch , and the service was outstanding , tried the another Akbar but haven’t seen nothing like this , specially the Maneger Naveed was very nice and polite to us. My wife and I went here on Monday 27th July. went around 8pm without booking, restaurant had a few tables in at the time, we ordered Masala Fish, Cheese kebabs to start with which were brill.For mains we opted for Desi Chicken Karahi and Palak Paneer, the panner dish had a sweet after taste to it, but chicken dish was outstanding,well done guys, keep it up.

Loving the chicken tikka masala desi, I've been to India and tried authentic desi food. This will probably be the closest you'll get to good Indian food in Glasgow.

This restaurant stand on the west end of Sauchiehall street, and is very popular with Asian diners, which can't be a bad sign. If i'm honest the food isn't the best I have ever had, but there are several good dishes. The staff are very friendly, and will make sure you don't have too long to wait, from ordering to delivery at the table. We have eaten here often, when we take what we call a 'road trip' from our usual Hamilton hot spots. There is a very, very varied choice of food, and I would defy you not to find something you like from the menu. I will be back, will you beat me to it?

Veg and Chicken Pakora take out last night, could not believe how bad this was once I got it home, 4 small pieces of veg pakora which was over spicy and 4 very small pieces of chicken pakora which was soggy and very very small portions, there were 3 pots of sauces which all tasted watered down, the best place for this was the bin! wont waste my money here again.

Really good meal and good service for a table of 23. The nan bread is amazing and the balti very tasty. The restaurant needs to get better wine glasses but apart from that was lovely.

We have been a couple of times and it has always been excellent. We went on New Year’s Day and the place was busy but the service was very good. The lamb kebab patties for starter were full of flavour, the garlic nan was insane and my butter chicken was juicy and rich. I’ve also had the lamb nihari which is slow cooked lamb shank and it was one of the best curry dishes I have ever eaten. The waiter was attentive but not overly so, the restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.Definitely a place to try if you are in Glasgow.

First time in my life I was told a chappati has egg in it. As an egg allergy sufferer I was baffled by this as it is basic knowledge that a chappati consists of flour and water. Very peculiar as I visited in June and had a chappati which did not have egg in it. Staff were not the most considerate and refused to relocate our seats as we were very cold inside. There was also some eye rolling of the waiters. Did not even receive a simple goodbye once we left.

Didn’t like it at all. Chose Karahi Chicken - it was a very strange colour, the chicken was diced so small it was like baby food, the spices tasted raw. They took it off the bill - which was the right thing to do!

Well that was interesting, I started to like this place the food was top notch on my last two visits but tonight... it was a totally different story. My waiter was lovely took my order and I didn’t have to wait long for my starter which was fish pakora, very nice indeed. My main course arrived before my starter has been cleared away which was fine. The main course wasn’t up to the standard of the previous visits but I get that, you can’t always have a 5 star meal, it was more like a Tesco ready meal. Once I’d finished it took a while to summon up the bill, guy in a white shirt (manager?) delivered the bill but weirdly avoided me when I was trying to pay. I asked if he could take £7.00 from a ten pound note as I wanted to leave the change for a tip and pay the rest with my card. He disappeared and it seems it all went into the till. Hopefully there was a tip jar there. Last two times I’ve been the food was lovely, this time spoilt it. Would I go again? Most definitely and I’ll have a chat with the white shirt manager to let him know.

Arrived after a whisky festival at Hamden Park. A guy in the group had organised the meal, in conjunction with a few whisky folk.

My friend and I were passing through Glasgow on a Saturday evening and were very hungry. Akbars, like everywhere else, was full but they had a shorter wait time so that's where we went. We got a table after about 20 minutes. The food was superb and came quite quickly considering how busy they were. And the biggest naan I've ever seen!

This is a very busy restaurant but there are plenty of pleasant and helpful staff. We waited a little while for the food as I guess that it was cooked to order. However, we didn’t wait too long and the food was worth the wait. This was the first time I’d been in this restaurant but it won’t be the last. Akbar’s gets John’s Vote.

Been Twice now with others and impressed each time. The food is delicious and freshly cooked. You will not be disappointed. Have been to others in Glasgow that pale into insignificance to this place. Great people too!

When me and my family decided to have a nice dinner for the evening we chose Akbars for the night. As a loyal customer and someone who has previously recommended Akbar's to friends and family I was not expecting to be treated in such a shocking and unprofessional manner. Firstly, we asked for the starters to be given to us before the main course which was rudely rejected. The main course and starters were brought out to us together and it was a struggle for the waiter to put them all on our table. Then the waiter proceeded to drop our drinks all over my t-shirt. If the waiter had apologised I would have let this pass, however he twice ignored the opportunity to apologise to me. The manager apologised to me and offered to dry clean my jumper which was also wet from the spillage, but this wasn't a solution as I can't just come in the next day and collect it when im working. You would think because of this then that the manager would at least offer to take some money off the final bill over the embarrassment and problems they caused, but no we had to pay the bill in its entirety. Throughout all of this me and my family kept calm because we didn't want to cause a scene, and there were other families with kids who's nights we did not want to ruin. For all the aggravation they caused to me and my family and taking into consideration I have been a loyal customer over the years I will no longer go out for a meal at this restaurant again.

I was with a large stag party which the staff seemed to cope with pretty well. Excellent service with a smile. Great food. The Stag failed Akbar's hottest curry challenge. Ah well we all had a good time.

I visited Akbar's last Friday, 3rd of August 2019, and I wasn't disappointed. Anyone who reads my reviews will know that my favourite Indian restaurant is the Bombay cottage in Hamilton, but this restaurant is a real gem. you can often tell that the food is good when you see so many Asian people eating in it. Akbar's has my favourite starter of any Indian restaurant, Tandoori lamb chops. 4 delicious chops for £4.40, a real bargain. Other Indian restaurants do this dish, but not at this price. I am normally a little critical of the main meals, not because the food is not good, but because they tend to be a little dry. That certainly wasn't the case this time. Before arriving at the restaurant, I had a hankering for a garlic dish. Looking through the menu, I decided on a garlic chicken tikka Balti, an inspired choice, and easily the best main dish I have ever had in Akbar's. I totally recommend that dish to everyone. It was very reminiscent of the quality I expect at the Bombay cottage. We finished with the traditional ice cream and raspberry sauce.
