Bastante nefasto y no limpio.

This review follows on from the previous review that someone left on here about this restaurant. We were behind then in the queue.Admittedly, there sa very busy period with take seats and as a result there was a delay in seating. The people in front of us were exceptionally rude, whilst shouting at the staff they also stole bits of food from plates that were about to be sent out to a table, I suppose in some of demonstration against having to wait to be seated. Most people in the restaurant were extremely embarrassed by their behaviour which caused a long delay on anyone else getting seen to.Once we were seated, the food came out promptly and was as delicious as it usually is, and served with a smile.Highly recommend this place :)

I agree with the previous review having been in the queue for our table just behind this group. The restaurant which II have frequented many time was completely overwhelmed. Loads of staff were on but there was no sense of direction or management and therefore many of us were left waiting with no greeting or indication as to when we would have our table (having booked ahead). They desperately left themselves down on service and really need a new duty manager to bring organisation especially given how great the food is there. However I disagree desperately with and was absolutely disgusted with how the party of the previous review conducted themselves and treated staff - they robbed food from a customer's plate, telling staff they deserved such an action as they were left hungry. They then proceeded to very aggressively shout at and belittle the staff and team causing great distress for half the restaurant which was in perfect earshot of their shouting and yelling. They were the rudest group of individuals I have ever met. I hope Aji Ichiban bans them for life and encourages other restaurants in the area to do so. Many lovely customers came up to staff to offer words of support after this party left.

Visited New Year's Eve but we were the only table at 6pm. The food is always very good, although I think the prices may have gone up for the sushi. On this visit there were several waitresses all rushing around needlessly and this made this visit very disappointing. One of our orders was left off because as we were ordering the waitress started shouting across the restaurant to her colleague and forgot to add the item. When we asked for it (at this point more tables had been filled) they confirmed they had left it off and so would make it, but only after they had made other tables orders. This led to several long waits for our dishes and more time for us to notice the inexperience of the waitresses in knowing how to do the job! We received our drinks after the first dish and this was when we were the only customers in the place! Disappointing experience.

The lady who i think is in charge is one of the most lovely person you would meet and very friendly and helpful, We asked about Japanese wines to go with our meals and she fetched 6 wines to try so we selected our favourite 2. If in the greenwich area you must try and you will not be disappointed at all. I am looking forward to returning in December. As we were looking for somewhere to eat in Greenwich we stumbled upon Aji IchiBan; recognising the name and that it had good reviews we decided to try it. It was very busy but luckily we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. We ordered 4 different types of fish sushi, mixed tempura, pork Tonkotsu ramen and pork gyozo. To go with it we ordered Japanese lager. The sushi was delicious and fresh; the mackeral with spring onion was my favourite. My husband raved about his ramen, the pork was really tasty and tasted authentic. My mixed tempura was delicious, especially the prawn one and surprisingly the crab stick tempura tasted good too. The restaurant was decor was plain and not somewhere that you'd go for a really posh meal but for me a meal out is about the food and this restaurant didn't disappoint. The bill came to £40 for all the food and 3 bottles of beer which seemed reasonable. Before we left we were given a plum sake and a grapefruit sake which were both really good.

I chose this restaurant as I was in the area and read the good reviews about it. Honestly I don't think the food is anything special. I had a tonkosu ramen (pork soup based ramen). The noodles were not the same as what I had in many ramen places in central London (more like coming from a packet). The soup base is blend and lack of flavour. I also had a fried chicken (toro karage) dish. Colour was too light with not much flavour either. Overall it wasn't what I expect in an authentic Japanese restaurant (the staff were speaking Chinese, not sure about the chef). Haven't tried the sushi but they are not cheap and I don't want to risk my money on it. The best thing about this place is the seating which is comfortable, not cramped, décor is right, service is ok, but that's about it. This place is ok for a quick meal if you are in the area. There are many better quality Japanese restaurants elsewhere in London.

I took the trek from central London because of the high reviews here and was hoping to have a bit of a special dinner. Unfortunately, Aji Ichiban didn't deliver. The fish was of generally good quality, but lacked the depth of flavor that truly fresh fish provides. At least the sushi chef (not Japanese) admitted that he didn't know how good the toro was. Well, that should have been a clue. The abalone was a dreary, soggy, mess, brown as if it had been pickled, rather than being fresh. Many of the items on the menu were unavailable, and, in retrospect, that was probably a good thing. Stick with the mainstream maguro and hamachi and you might be OK. Well, save for the price -- I had six pairs of nigiri and was still very hungry. Usually that is a light meal for me at some places, and completely satiating at others. I had to order a main course to be able to call it a meal. At least the tonkatsu was solid, if uninspiring. The staff knows nothing about their sake selection and they don't have premium sake by the glass. All in all, look elsewhere, or just skip sushi entirely.

A large menu of choices for both veg and non-veg, with veg option of base sauces.Menu helpfully divided into appetisers, ramen, donburi, udon, sashimi, sushi, maki, tamaki, chef special, salads etc.My boyfriend and I went there for a Sunday dinner. The salmon teriyaki was amazingly soft and tangy. The tempura rice donburi was sublime, though it could have done with a little more sauce. We also had a tamago egg starter and an avocado prawn maki roll; both served with thinly sliced ginger and wasabi sauce - You could taste the freshness in everything. The meal was reasonable, even with my plum wine. The service was polite and full of quiet grace. Just be aware that the food is served as it's prepared so one diner may need to wait ; this is normal since traditionally one is served hot food as it's ready to eat. We will definitely dine at Aji Ichiban again for sure.

This is a small thin venue on Nelson Road, Greenwich easily overlooked in favour of much grander and more advertised places such as the branch of Jamie's Italian almost directly opposite. That would be a pity because judging by the quality of the food on offer, including the full range of sushi, ramen, donburi and curry, this is, I suspect the best Asian restaurant in Greenwich by quite a distance. Perhaps another indication of this is that by 12.30 it was quite full with Koreans and Japanese some of whom seemed to have arrived as part of quite large parties. There is a lunch menu of various curries, ramen and donburi at £1 or so off the regular price, although my beef donburi, unlike its counterpart from the main menu, didn't come with a complimentary miso soup. Still very good value, however, at £5.90. This meant I ended up spending almost as much (£5.80) on a side dish of prawns tempura. When the waitress commented 'good choice' when taking my order I think she was referring to the prawns. If so, she was right. Five king prawns sat side by side on a bed of salad on a large tray lightly coated with breadcrumbs and a creamy sauce. Undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. From a rather small list of three Japanese beers I chose a 330ml Sapporo which complemented the food nicely. Service was polite and efficient.

The service from the Chinese speaking FOH staff was a little erratic - and we were sitting close to the bar so had a reasonable chance of flagging someone down. If you're looking at Aji Ichiban you should head half a mile up the road to Zaibatsu. It looks more down at heel, and it's unlicensed, but the food and service are both streets ahead.

I live in Greenwich and have ordered with this establishment previously. Order was placed on Just East last weekend. When I placed the order I had confirmation it would be about 40mins (7.30pm) at 8.40pm I called to ask if the delivery would be much longer and all I got as an answer was "we've been busy and we have not started your order, so do you still want it?" No apology whatsoever and quite a couldn't care less attitude. although I tried to get to the bottom of why I had received a confirmation time of delivery, I in fact received nothing, not even a phone call to say it would be late and if I hadn't of called them when I did it would never had arrived. I reluctantly agreed to wait a further 45mins for the delivery and it took nearly an hour. When it did arrive the order was wrong and because we were starving we had to make reluctant adjustments at the door, then only to find the food was nowhere close to the quality we'd received before from this establishment, so I called them. In response to that I got the brush off and was told the manager would call me Tuesday (this was Sat eve) and I was extremely disappointed to receive (probably expectedly though) no call. Hence the review. What a shame.

I definitely recommend the pineapple juice (mixed with coconut) and yogurt drink. Sashimi is amazing. The fish slice are really fresh and amazing. I used to don't eat raw meat/fish, but I like them a lot. Tempura is is little oily. Duck noodle is worthwhile to try. It has really thick duck taste from the soup and noodles, which is quite hard to get from others restaurants. Overall, good experience. The best Japanese restaurant I have visited so far...

I have to say this was a difficult one for me to review because the food itself was very good and many will suggest that this is what going to a restaurant is all about. For me the experience is much more than just the food so that is why I mark this place as 3 stars. We were visiting Greenwich and wanted to do something special and so looking at reviews on Tripadvisor and having a huge love for Japanese food we picked Aji Ichiban as the place we would visit. First impressions were awful. We walked past at first because it looked like a greasy spoon cafe. It is brightly lit and has bare white walls with marks and bits of paint missing everywhere. Inside it is fair to say, if I was being generous, that it is minimalist. The tables and chairs are sort of lined up in a cafe style and the back room we were originally shown to was akin to a store room. It was at this point that we realised we had made a terrible mistake, this was one of those awkward moments when we had to decide if we were to get up and just leave but decided instead to ask if we could move to one of the tables at the front which were slightly more acceptable.Once there we settled down a little and picked a bottle of wine (Sauvignon, which was actually half decent and good value at £16). We picked the Sashimi platter and Sushi Platter and I have to say that the food was very good. Obviously higher in quality than your Yo Sushi's and possibly on a par with Moshi in Brighton which is our usual haunt. The service was good although everything does come out at once and we really would have liked things in stages as we had asked but hey it is mainly cold anyway so that doesn't really matter too much. After finishing the food I have to say the environment is much more casual stark cafe style dining than mellow restaurant so we were looking to make an exit to somewhere more relaxed and a bit easier on the eye. As a result this felt more like one of those wham bam thank you mam type of meals where the food is good and you are going in purely for the nosh and then exiting. This is a shame because personally I believe they could spend a day decorating and the place would be a completely different experience. My feeling though is that this is left in a stark, functionalist style because that is what the owners want, they want it to feel like a very posh Japanese cafe rather than a romantic high end restaurant to appeal to more casual diners and passing trade.

Top quality, beautifully presented, and very tasty. The best sushi in Greenwich to our knowledge! The service was a little slow but doesn't effect the overall rating.

Our daughter had never been to a Japanese restaurant before, based on this experience it will not be her last! Great tasty food and super friendly service. We have had plenty experience of good Japanese restaurants in South Africa but this is much better. Didn't try the sushi this time, but it looked great. We will back on our next trip!

Great sushi, the eel temaki is sensational and very friendly service. We've been coming here regularly for the last year and it is consistently excellent. A shining beacon in the Greenwich restaurant scene where there is much quantity but not much quality!

Mixed experience here, came on a weekend for the lunch menu.Ordered the chicken teriyaki don, and a few nigiri pieces. Nigiri came along fine, only 1 piece for the price which seems a little steep, I would have expected 2. It was OK but not amazing. My friends main arrived and was placed in front of me which was a tad confusing as it was actually my friends okyaka don (tried this and it was VERY tasty), at this point I reiterated that I had ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, to which I received 'yes yes' which was fine. Our mains arrived at very different times, and both my friends had started eating by the time mine came out, at which point it was very clearly noodles and not rice, and not the right colour for teriyaki. After once again confirming I had ordered chicken teriyaki I was told brusquely that this was what I ordered and the waitress left. By this point I was hungry and didn't want to make a fuss in company, and after raising the issue twice I didn't want the hassle so I kept what I was given. The waitress must have either heard 'chicken yaki soba' 3 times or simply wasn't interested in correcting it the second time. Definitely wouldn't recommend the chicken yaki soba, essentially plain fried noodles with a few chicken bits. A friend commented that her Oyaka don had more than its fair share of chicken fat in it.

We've had supermarket sushi, been to yo sushi and started to make it at home. This place had such good reviews that we had to try it and see how the experts do it. We had maguro temaki (3.90), marsh sushi set (14.80) and chilli chicken ramen (6.90) all very good. The place was very quiet but there was loads of deliveries going out, not surprising people chose to eat at home as the atmosphere and decor needs to be improved. The service was good and friendly with no pressure, which was good as it was a huge menu about 7pages all so tempting. The prices looked expensive but you got a lot of ramen for you money and the fresh taste of the sushi was worth the cost.

I find that you often go to a "Japanese restaurant" only to come out mildly disappointed by the quality of the fish or the authenticity of the atmosphere; Aji Ichiban will surpass your expectations! We had a large platter of Sashimi followed by pork katsu curry, which was all absolutely delicious, especially the fish. Staff were very friendly and were very good in letting us know timings on our orders. The restaurant is always full and has a great atmosphere inside. The food was good value with a large Sashimi platter at £28 which we could share with four of us.I would highly recommend this restaurant for casual as well as formal evenings and celebrations.

This place is a bit of a mission for us to get to but is definately worth the trip. Its in a nice part of town, and serves some of the best sushi we've had not only in London, but also in the world (although we've never been to Japan!). Its pretty good value too, £60 for 2 with wine, beer and loads of food!Spicy Tuna roll, salmon and tuna sashimi are all our favs, plus they have some crazy main courses like the dragon Maki which are presented beautifully and are a bit different. The service is very friendly, which allows you to forgive occasional slowness during busy periods, and the house white is delicious. Do reserve a table.Definately recommend.

One good sign in a sushi or sashimi restaurant is the number of people eating there on a wet Tuesday in January. This place is packed. Locals and people travelling from further afield, come here for the terrific service and fresh fish (which is of course the other good sign of a sushi restaurant.) The atmosphere is bright and clean, the service crisp yet friendly. When plated the food looks as appetising as it tastes, and doesn’t cost the earth. Unagi is warm and tempting, the tempura spider crab has a sweetness that tastes fresh from the sea, and the Aji Ichiban sashimi plate (so much one of our favourites) is just a sublime experience that doesn’t break the bank. Drink the sake, the white wine, the beer or just the fizzy water – but go to this restaurant which more than ever highlights the food changes in Greenwich town centre. Wonderful.

Although it was Sunday evening, we phoned ahead to book and found that we had the restaurant to ourselves. We arrived at 9pm and despite being the only diners, we weren't once made to feel like an inconvenience. We ordered various dishes to share and I couldn't fault the food at all. I particularly enjoyed the Wasabi prawns - subtle but tasty! Overall, it was good value and we enjoyed our meal.

This has the best sushi I have tasted in London. It's prepared fresh, the rice is still slightly warm when served and they have a nice range of Maki sushi compared to other places around London. The prices are reasonable for London sushi and are definitely worth the price as I have always been satisfied. The katsu curry is also a very good deal when ordered at lunch and the chicken is very tender. After going here and then to Wagamama you can definitely taste the difference (but Wagamama is pretty much double the price for plastic tasting meat!)The ambiance isn't the best, the music is a bit too low for my liking, and so it can feel like you are in someone's house as the restaurant is quite small, but the food definitely makes up for it.On one occasion me and my guests stayed over 2 hours and they didn't kick us out so that was great!Overall, no other place has lived up to the same standards as here for sushi :D

My wife and I had lunch here on Sunday 29 Sept 2013. Not sure why people are raving about this place. It was OK but pricey. We paid £49 with service for lunch for two - without alcohol, but a bottle of sparkling mineral water. We had Edamame, Pork Gyoza, Vegetable Gyoza, vegetable Tampura, 3 pieces Hamachi Nigiri Sushi (yellow tail), 3 pieces Sake Nigiri (salmon), Maguro (Tuna rolls) and Sake (salmon) rolls. The best part of the meal was the Tampura and the Hamachi Sushi. The rest was rather bland and tasteless. The seaweed wrap around the rolls was tough. The service was friendly, but we waited some time for our meal to turn up and then it all came at once. Would I come here again, possibly, but I think there is a better sushi place in Greenwich.

I am literally obsessed with Sushi and pretty much try and eat it at every available opportunity I get in which ever country I am in.Luckily for me, i live over by Canary Wharf so i can walk over in about 30 minutes. I have been here with my girlfriend maybe 5 times in the last 3 months and every time we are completely blown away by the flavours, presentation and quality of the sushi. Its not cheap by any standards but well worth a visit, its actually got to the point where i would rather order without alcohol so i can enjoy more sushi if im feeling a little more strapped for cash.A meal for 2 without alcohol can easily stretch to £70 but alot of that goes on the fatty tuna which never seases to make my eyes roll into the back of my head.....Highly highly recomend!!!!!!! Not sure whats going on with the picture of the asian supermarket, that is not a picture of the restaurant!

We eat here regularly and use their take out service and the food is always fantastic. The staff are really friendly and the restaurant is nice, the sushi is the best I have eaten in London and I like the fact they have other options like crispy duck maki (which is delicious!) if you don't fancy an all fish meal. Some people have mentioned its expensive and while it is a little more than places like itsu the quality is infinitely better so I definitely think its worth the money. Would highly recommend visiting.

We were wandering by the restaurant row in Greenwich and Aji Ichiban jumped out as a cut above the rest. It looks discreet in appearance and the decor is simple. I was drawn in by the sushi chef at the bar - it just had the feel of a genuine sushi establishment, not a poor imitation. It didn't disappoint. The waiting staff are dressed in black uniform creating an ambiance of efficient polite service, but were also friendly.I was encouraged to see a decent list of sake - another good sign. The menu was as expected, with a good range of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese delicacies.I was in the mood for sashimi and it was well presented and tasted super-fresh, as if straight from the sea.I really enjoyed this restaurant and if you like good sushi, it's worth the trip. We will definitely go back.We had veg gyoza, squid tempura, a chirashi dish and a sashimi dish, with a small sake and 2 Kirin beers. It came to £54 exc tip.

I really like this restuarant, went there again last night and after three trips have been impressed each Time. The Sushi selection offered is good, but they also have a good range of soups and little hot dishes that you don't see in many Japanese/Sushi places. This variety is a major plus point for me, I am a big Sushi fan anyway, but I also love noodle soups. The noodle soups I have tried so far have be amazing, not a huge fan of miso, but there spicy miso soups have changed my opinion. Very unique flavours , tasty food. last night's service a little slow but not enough to worry about and they were very nice and gave us so grapefruit Sake to try, which I can't recommend enough. MORE AT TripAdvisor

This little restaurant is rather unremarkable from the outside. They currently have no real sign on the outside, and the only way you know it's a restaurant is the menu posted in the window and the minimalist name at the foot of the glass facing outwards. However, its modest exterior and relatively minimalist interior do not do justice to the quality of the food that they have available in this restaurant. The menu feels authentically Japanese, yet with the kind of range you rarely see in a restaurant even in Japan, nevermind in the UK. They do a great selection of sushi, small starters, fried dishes (like Kara-age and Agedashidofu), and they still find the space to do family favourites like Tonkatsu, comfort foods like Ramen, some impressive classics like tempura and donburi, and they even have a large variety of Sake, from some very impressive selections to very affordable simple ones. All of it is topped off by being affordable, with the prices not daunting in the slightest. Two people could happily dine for under £10 each and be full during lunchtime, and even with a more elaborate dinner you can keep prices under control. The whole thing is rounded off by a very dedicated and helpful staff who are friendly and willing to accomodate your needs. It helps make this a first-rate experience.
